トマス・ド・クインシーと近代化－『英吉利阿片服用者の告白』を読む－
Get PDFAlthough Thomas De Quincey's Confessions of an English Opium Eater was a great success just after its publication in the autumn of 1821, the work seems strangely devoid of the sort of shock value we might expect today from a publication of that genre. It is, for instance, presented in a polite language seemingly addressed to a gentle, modern, educated readership, carefully avoiding any details that might have been considered even remotely scandalous. By referring to the works in the areas of political and philosophical ideas informed by Hannah Arendt and assembled by several eminent Japanese scholars, this paper first examines the historical and philosophical backgrounds of the modern nation of the West in an attempt to highlight two dominant theories for its origins and characteristics. Building on the postcolonial approaches initiated by John Barrell's influential study, which tends to focus on the variety of figures of the economic and political "other," this paper deals with the traumatic process in which the modern subjects come into being as a result of being deprived of their feudal-based, God-given, personal characteristics. Relying on the psychoanalytical philosophy of Slavoj Zizek, this paper argues that De Quincey's readers represent Great Britain itself as an agency of the Lacanian big Other, and through his Confessions, De Quincey attempts to offer himself as a faithful modern subject to that powerful authority.departmental bulletin pape
八重山の戦後復興期における幼稚園教育(1)－みやまえ幼稚園沿革誌史料に基づいて－
Get PDF沖縄県八重山における幼稚園設立の歴史には、特筆すべき軌跡がある。八重山の幼稚園は、昭和8(1933)年に開園した八重山で第1号の「やえやま幼稚園」に続き、戦後、「みやとり幼稚園｣、｢ふたば幼稚園｣、「みやまえ幼稚園｣、「天川幼稚園」と次々に開園されるが、その設立には、地域の人々が幼児教育を急務とする熱心な訴えや自治会の支援、地域の篤志家などの後押しが、開園の原動力であった。いざ、開園に到っても、行政の財源的な援助もなく現実的には厳しい私立園として苦難を強いられながら、教諭達も献身的に保育に携わった。園舎は、地元の青年会館や御嶽の庭に俄かに作られた借り住まいでスタートし、例えば、「みやとり幼稚園｣、「みやまえ幼稚園｣、「天川幼稚園」のように、鳥居が園の校門である幼稚園もあった。本論文は、こうした、独特の歴史を持つ八重山の幼稚園開園について、戦後まもなく設立された当時の実情や幼稚園教育を知る手掛かりとして、「みやまえ幼稚園」を例に取り上げ論述する。本論の研究手法として、「みやまえ幼稚園」の開園に尽力し初代園長となった、「宮城文」の直筆による『みやまえ幼稚園沿革誌』の貴重な第一次史料を基に、みやまえ幼稚園開設の経緯や、宮城が幼児教育に関わった状況、保育実践について、その記録をつぶさに読み取り、八重山の戦後復興期の幼稚園教育について明らかにするものである。departmental bulletin pape

宮良長包の音楽教育活動に関する研究(5)－作品研究2(昭和前期篇)－
Get PDF筆者の先行研究、「宮良長包の音楽教育活動に関する研究(4)－作品研究1(明治・大正篇)－」においては、長包が明治、大正時代に作曲した49曲のうち、旋律が明らかになっている34曲の声楽曲、校歌、団体歌について、作品ごとに解題を行ない、作品研究の第一作目とした。「明治・大正篇」作品の音楽的特徴として、(1)明治期の作品は単旋律や習作が多いが、大正期になるとピアノ伴奏が加えられ、音使いが豊かになり、ポリフォニー音楽として充実してくる (2)沖縄、八重山民謡をモチーフにして作曲する作品が多くなる (3)自作の旋律モチーフを複数の自曲に転用する作曲技法が見られる (4)混合拍子の曲が多い、などが明らかになった。本研究は、その後続研究として昭和期作品を扱い、昭和元年から昭和6年までを前期、昭和7年から長包が没した昭和14年までを後期として2期に区分し、本論文においては、昭和元年から6年にかけて作曲された40曲について、「昭和前期篇」とする。昭和前期の作品を時系列に整理し作品表を作成、その内、現在までに旋律が明らかになっている34曲について、作品ごとに解題を行なう。さらに、筆者が『宮良長包作曲全集』を刊行した際の発掘作品の内容にも言及しながら、長包の昭和前期の作品研究を通して、長包の教育論、音楽論について論述する。本研究の眼目は、戦火で一旦は消失した長包作品に1曲でも多く光を当て、解題を行なうことにより、長包の作品がより明らかになることを目指すものである。departmental bulletin pape
イデオロギーとしてのヤポネシア論－試論－
Get PDFThe word "Japanesia" (pronounced as "yaponesia") was coined by a Japanese novelist Toshio Shimao to represent a key concept for rethinking Japan, not as a political and cultural body with a centralized imperialist government, but primarily as a chain of islands with a variety of lively boarder cultures and rich local traditions. This concept was further developed and imbued with some new theoretical insights by a Japanese ethnologist Ken'ichi Tanigawa whose thoughts have had a great impact on Okinawan writers and critics during the early 1970s, enabling them to form an intellectual stance against Okinawa's reversion to mainland Japan. The "anti-reversion" debate was led by Akira Arakawa, Shin'ichi Kawamitsu, and Keitoku Okamoto, all graduates from the University of the Ryukyus where they first became known in the mid-50s under the American military rule, publishing a leftist literary magazine, Ryudai Bungaku. With a focus on the writings of Tanigawa and Okamoto, this paper argues that the multicultural concept of "Japanesia" is built on the "center/border" opposition, and the way Okinawa is represented through such binary oppositions, however sympathetic and positive, is in fact nationalist as well as Orientalist. Shimao's and Tanigawa's thoughts on Okinawa, therefore, tend to reduce Okinawa to a local community to be absorbed again into the political and social order of Japan, as people actually saw it happen in 1972 later when Okinawa returned to Japan. This paper presents a critical disscussion of the way in which Okamoto as a local critic responded to the concept of "Japanesia" and employed it to create his own thoughts in order to describe what he believed to be distinctively "Okinawan ways" as opposed to the mainland Japanese.departmental bulletin pape
大学生における沖縄の社会状況の認知に関する研究
Get PDFThe purpose of this paper is to analyze how university students perceive Okinawa issue. 644 university students answered 73 questions. These students were classified into three groups. Group 1 is Okinawa resident Okinawan, group 2 is Okinawa resident Japanese, and group 3 is not Okinawa resident Japanese. There were no significant differences among group concerning war anxiety. Students opposite to war matter highly. Cross analysis of the question and the group revealed that there are significant correlation question and group in 10 of 18 cases. 沖縄における社会不安に関する研究－米軍基地と経済自立の間にて－
Get PDFIn 2002, 2,041 residents of Okinawa responded to a survey of their attitudes about the presence of US military bases and their economic benefits to the local economy. In light of the survey results, this article mainly analyzes the problems that concern the presence of these bases and the economy. We based our analyses on Hayashi's Type 3 Qualification Theory and extracted the "military-economy oriented and anti-base" factor. From our surveys, we were also able to extract the "clear and ambiguous" factor from the respondents' decision-making process. In terms of the "military-economy oriented and anti-base" factor, a certain shift in attitudes was observed: Women in their 20s and 30s were found to be "military-economy oriented," but women in their 40s and older tended to be "anti-base." Similarly, men in their 20s to 50s were found to be "military-economy oriented" while men in their 60s and older were found to be "antibase oriented." As we look at the changes from 1972, we noticed that the opinions and attitudes among people about the base and the economic issues become less and less clear. During the past 30 years, anti-base trends have come to dominate opinions favorable to the military-supported economy.departmental bulletin pape
