A Performance Measurement Model for Shariah Banks Based on Falah

    No full text
It is the financial ratio, risk, or capital ownership approach that dominates the performance of conventional and sharia banking. In order to evaluate the performance of sharia banking, a measurement model that is consistent with the principles of sharia economics is necessary, as the operational basis of sharia banks and conventional banks is significantly different. This model must not only evaluate the financial performance but also the normative side. All Muslim activities and behaviors on Earth are ultimately directed toward falah, as is widely recognized. As a result, the objective of this investigation is to develop a falah-based sharia bank performance measurement model and to evaluate the performance of ten sharia commercial banks in Indonesia. The Simple Additive Weighting Method is employed to accomplish weighting and aggregation in the falah approach to performance compilation, while the two-phase multiattribute decision-making approach is employed to determine ranking. The development of the performance measurement model of the Maqashid Syariah Index is designated as Falah in this study. According to the Falah approach, the performance evaluation of sharia institutions reveals that Bank TB Bukopin Syariah and BTPN Syariah exhibit flawless performance. At the same time, Bank Aladin Syariah, Bank Panin Dubai Syariah, Bank Aceh Syariah, Bank Muamalat, and BJB Syariah demonstrated exceptional performance. In addition, Bank Mega Syariah demonstrated satisfactory performance

This study presents the reflections of two Indonesian mothers working as EFL teachers on their experiences of fostering their children's bilingual development. It employed a narrative inquiry approach, gathering the participants' stories through oral and multimodal narratives. The mothers shared their stories during a semi-structured interview and through photos and videos. The findings reveal that the participating mothers introduced English to their children early by engaging them in natural English interactions and activities such as story reading before bed, hands-on activities, role-playing, games, and daily communication. Despite many similarities in activities, the consistency and continuity of providing exposure to English and Indonesian languages are different. The first mother implemented One Parent One Language Strategy (OPOL) with her child, using English with mother and Indonesian with father. On its journey, she shifted the strategy to Minority Language at Home strategy (MLaH) due to her husband’s passing with her child communicated English at home and learned Indonesian from school, relatives, and communities. Meanwhile, the second mother used English and Indonesian (mixing language strategy) to communicate with her daughter, using English as the dominant language. When her daughter started mixing the structure of the languages and experienced language confusion, the second mother minimized English use at home and shifted to using Indonesian as the dominant language at home. The findings also indicate that in nurturing children’s bilingualism, the mothers’ choices of practices involved five aspects of reflection: their philosophy, belief, theory, practice, and sociocultural aspect beyond practice. This study highlights that the process of nurturing children’s bilingual development is not a linear process. It involves a more complex relation of various factors that influence parents’ decision in (dis)continuing certain language policies

Writing a Thesis with Sound Argument: A Linguistic Analysis of Indonesian Undergraduate Students’ Academic Texts

    Get PDF
Writing a thesis necessitates the presentation of a compelling and well-written argument. The thesis should situate research within the broader field of study and promote some contributions to the field. A student-writer needs to compose a thesis that reports and justifies the research conducted. This study explores how one undergraduate student-writer at an Indonesian university stages meanings to develop a thesis—as a macrogenre, with sound and engaging arguments by using available linguistic resources. It employs tools of text analyses offered by Systemic Functional Linguistics to examine primarily the interpersonal zone of the arguments. This zone is crucial for a writer to stage meanings to engage with others and others’ knowledge in the field of study, utilizing sound arguments as she takes her stances in the academic community. The analysis focused on two key textual features: the organization of meanings to accomplish the social function of the thesis and the utilization of evaluative language resources to engage with others in the literature. This study involved a single respondent, an undergraduate student-writer, as its focus. The analyses indicate that this novice writer employs various linguistic resources to structure her texts in intricate ways. While her argument at the macro-level (the thesis) is structured relatively similar to the typical thesis, significant differences emerge in her micro-level structure. This study revealed additional deviations in her use of linguistic resources for negotiating arguments at the sentence level (micro-level) and below level, including phrase and word levels

Misconceptions of students majoring in science are of particular concern to research. Because if misconceptions occur, it will affect students' understanding. The purpose of this study was to measure the level of misconceptions of students majoring in science on the material of the motion system. This research approach uses quantitative with the type of survey (Cross Sectional Survey Designs). The research subjects were 40 respondents of science majors in class XI, and XII MA Nahdlatul Muslimin through cluster random technique. Data collection through multiple choice test questionnaire with six tier diagnostic test instrument and rasch model analysis using winstep application. The results showed that an average of 23.75% of students majoring in science understood the motion system material, an average of 11.72% of students majoring in science partially understood the motion system material, an average of 57.77% of students majoring in science experienced misconceptions about the motion system material, an average of 6.27% of students majoring in science did not understand the motion system material. So it can be concluded that the level of misconceptions of students majoring in science of motion system material is moderate. This research affects the biology learning process for the future, especially on the material of the motion system. So from this research students can avoid misconceptions and can improve the professional competence of students majoring in science in mastering the material.

Number pattern learning lacks a link to everyday life. This research aims to find the concept of number patterns in batik and weaving motifs in the Japanese village of Kudus Regency. Qualitative approach with ethnographic model was used in this research. The subjects of this research were woven craftsmen in Japanese village, batik craftsmen in Alfa Shoofa Batik Kudus and Muria Batik Kudus. Data collection techniques used interviews, observation, and documentation with research instruments in the form of interview guidelines, documentation, and field notes. The results of the research found the concept of arithmetic sequence in Kudus batik motifs. Kudus batik motifs form an arithmetic sequence with a difference of 6 and a difference of 3. In addition, odd and even number sequence patterns were found. Meanwhile, in the weaving of the Japanese village community, an arithmetic sequence with the formula Un = 2n -1 (odd number pattern) and Un = 2n (even number pattern) was found. The research findings can be developed as a learning resource for number patterns in mathematics learning. Pembelajaran pola bilangan kurang mengaitkan dengan kehidupan sehari-hari.
