The Scientific Approach to Cultivating Scientific Attitudes in Early Childhood
This study examines how the scientific approach is implemented in early childhood education under resource constraints. Using a qualitative case study design, data were gathered from educators at ten institutions over three months (January–March 2024) through interviews, classroom and outdoor observations, and document analysis, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman framework. Findings show that while teachers possess a reasonable conceptual grasp of the scientific approach, enactment is inconsistent. Institutions lack dedicated laboratory spaces and rely largely on simple, introductory activities; however, natural settings such as school gardens and spacious grounds are leveraged to sustain observation- and inquiry-based learning. Teachers commonly use big books as primary materials, with infrequent use of online resources due to limited facilities. Curricular goals referencing critical thinking and problem solving are not consistently realized in practice; teacher-led questioning predominates, interdisciplinary integration is minimal, and assessment relies heavily on products rather than projects or presentations. Time structures (3–4 hour daily schedules) and significant budget limitations further restrict routine experimentation and exploration, as well as opportunities for sustained professional development. Notwithstanding these constraints, educators creatively employ natural and recycled materials and selectively integrate digital media. The study concludes that maximizing the potential of the scientific approach requires coordinated support—adequate funding, flexible scheduling, enriched learning environments, and structured, ongoing teacher professional development through collaboration among government, educational institutions, and external partners
The Meaning of Syarab in QS. An-Nahl [16]:69: Integrating Qur’anic Exegesis and Roland Barthes’ Semiotics
The interpretation of the Qur’anic verses does not stop at a literal understanding, but demands an approach capable of uncovering layers of symbolic meaning. This study analyzes the term syarab in QS. An-Nahl [16]:69 using Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory, which divides meaning into two sign systems: the first level (denotation/linguistics) and the second level (myth/connotation). This research employs a qualitative method with descriptive-analytical analysis through library research. The peimary data sources include the Qur’an, books of tafsir (exegesis), and hadith, supported by secondary data from dictionaries and related articels. The results indicate that denotatively, syarab meand “a drink”, which is anything that can be consumed. At the connotative level, syarab is understood as honey, which has various colors and healing properties, as affirmed in various classical and modern exegesis books. Honey is positioned as a symbol of divine pleasure, a sign of Allah’s power, and a medium for healing since the time of the Prophet. Barthes’ semiotic approach expands the scope of interpretation of the Qur’anic text by bridging textual and contextual meanings, and proves the relevance of semiotic studies in Qur’anic exegesis. This finding contributes to the strengthening of contemporary exegesis methodology and opens opportunities for further research on the application of semiotics in Qur’anic studies.
RELIGIOUS MODERATION IN WATER USE PRACTICES BASED ON BULUGH AL-MARAM AT SALAF ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOLS: A Study of Living Hadith
This study is motivated by the increasing urgency of religious moderation in a plural society amid the growing crisis of water resources, particularly within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Bulugh al-Maram, as a primary reference for hadith ahkam studied in pesantren, holds significant potential for fostering values of moderation, especially through hadiths regulating proportional and efficient water use. However, a purely textual understanding of certain hadiths may also lead to rigid or even radical attitudes if not properly contextualized. Therefore, this research aims to examine the values of religious moderation embedded in the hadiths on water usage in Bulugh al-Maram and their implementation in Salaf pesantren along the northern coast of Java. This study employs a qualitative research method using both library and field approaches within the framework of living hadith studies. Hermeneutic analysis is applied to interpret the hadith texts, while field data are collected through observations and interviews conducted in several Salaf pesantren in Kudus and its surrounding areas. The findings reveal that Bulugh al-Maram contains numerous hadiths that promote moderate religious attitudes, such as prohibitions against excessive water use (israf), flexibility in purification practices, and recognition of diversity in ritual observance. These values are reflected in pesantren practices, including water-saving behaviors, the use of tayammum when appropriate, and tolerant attitudes toward differences among Islamic legal schools. This study recommends strengthening contextual approaches to hadith understanding through living hadith studies so that the values of religious moderation can be more effectively internalized, while simultaneously contributing to water resource conservation and the promotion of social harmony within pesantren communities.
The Concept of Mafhum al-Nash in the Thought of Nashr Hamid Abu Zaid: A Comparative Analysis with the Literal Approach of Khawarij
This study examines the relationship between the thought of Nashr Hamid Abu Zaid and the ideology of Khawarij, focusing on the analysis of the concept of "Mafhum al-Nashsh". As a progressive Muslim thinker, Abu Zaid offers a critical approach to textual understanding in Islam that emphasizes the importance of context and dynamic interpretation. On the other hand, Khawarij is known for its literal and radical approach to religious texts. By analyzing Abu Zaid's works, this article identifies the intersection and the fundamental differences between Abu Zaid's critical approach and the Khawarij's textual views. This study examines Abu Zaid's response to the Khawarij ideology and assesses the implications of this relationship for contemporary Islamic understanding and efforts to counter religious extremism. The research results are expected to make a significant contribution to understanding the dialectic between progressive and literal thought in Islamic discourse.
Traditional coffee shops face double pressure from modern coffee shops and sharia ethical requirements. This study is the first Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to integrate the Resource-Based View (RBV) perspective with sharia ethics to analyze the adaptation strategies of traditional coffee shops. Using the PRISMA protocol, analysis of 10 selected articles revealed fragmentation: strategy studies focused on digital transformation and local identity, while ethics studies emphasized normative compliance. This study bridges this gap by offering a new theoretical contribution: reinterpreting sharia ethics (shiddiq, adl, amanah, halal) as unique and difficult-to-imitate VRIN (Valuable, Rare, Inimitable, Non-substitutable) resources. The integration of Sharia ethics with modern adaptation strategies serves to create sustainable competitive advantage through a digital-ethical hybrid strategy. It is recommended that traditional coffee shops adopt a “hybrid branding” strategy that utilizes digital platforms to promote transparency and halal certification in order to increase customer loyalty
Wealth Distribution and Social Justice in Islamic Economic Law: Normative Principles and Their Implications for Inclusive Development
Global wealth inequality remains a persistent challenge that undermines social justice and inclusive development. Conventional economic systems have struggled to address structural disparities, leading to wealth concentration and social exclusion. This study examines wealth distribution and social justice from the perspective of Islamic economic law, focusing on its normative principles and their implications for inclusive development. Using a qualitative library-based research design grounded in normative legal analysis, this study analyzes primary Islamic legal sources, namely the Qur’an and Hadith, alongside classical and contemporary Islamic legal scholarship. Empirical socio-economic data from international institutions are employed as contextual references to assess the modern relevance of Islamic legal principles. The findings reveal that Islamic economic law conceptualizes wealth not as an absolute individual right but as a trust (amānah) bound by social responsibility. Normative principles such as justice (al-ʿadl), balance (al-mīzān), and social solidarity are institutionalized through legally structured redistributive instruments, including zakat, infaq, ṣadaqah, and waqf, as well as prohibitions against usury and monopolistic practices. These instruments operate through both curative mechanisms that alleviate immediate poverty and preventive mechanisms that restrain excessive wealth concentration. As a result, Islamic economic law provides a multi-layered distributive framework that links social justice with inclusive development. The study concludes that Islamic economic law offers a coherent normative and legal framework capable of addressing structural inequality while promoting inclusive growth. When supported by effective governance and policy integration, its redistributive instruments have significant potential to reduce poverty, foster social cohesion, and promote sustainable development in contemporary societies

Does Ethics Sell? Analyzing Sharia Marketing on Banking Customer Loyalty
This study examines the effect of the Sharia marketing mix on customer loyalty in Islamic banking. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed to 295 customers of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) in Kudus Regency. The research model incorporates five dimensions of the Sharia marketing mix—product, price, promotion, place, and people—and analyzes their influence on customer loyalty using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 3.0. The results indicate that all Sharia marketing mix variables significantly affect customer loyalty. Product, price, promotion, and place have positive and significant effects on loyalty, suggesting that Sharia-compliant products, fair and transparent pricing, effective promotional communication, and easy access to banking services play crucial roles in strengthening long-term customer relationships. Among these variables, promotion emerges as the most dominant factor influencing loyalty. Interestingly, the people (employees) variable shows a negative and significant effect on customer loyalty, indicating a potential service gap between customer expectations and actual employee performance, particularly in the context of increasingly digitalized Islamic banking services. Overall, the findings demonstrate that customer loyalty in Islamic banking is shaped not only by adherence to Sharia principles but also by the effectiveness of marketing mix implementation and the quality of service experiences perceived by customers. This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the complex role of employees in Islamic banking and underscores the importance of enhancing employee competence and service quality to build sustainable customer loyalty
Understanding Religious Moderation and Its Influence on Students' Religious Tolerance Attitudes
AbstractThis study aims to analyze differences in students' understanding of religious moderation by gender and the influence of this understanding on attitudes toward religious tolerance. The study used a quantitative approach with a non-test questionnaire instrument that had been tested for validity and reliability, involving students from UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi as respondents. The results showed differences in the level of understanding of religious moderation between male and female students, as well as a positive relationship between understanding of religious moderation and students' attitudes of religious tolerance. These findings confirm that understanding of religious moderation plays a significant role in shaping attitudes of tolerance in higher education. Scientifically, this study contributes to filling a gap in the study of religious moderation by presenting a gender perspective that has been underrepresented in previous research, and it strengthens the argument that strengthening religious moderation is a strategic factor in managing student religiosity in a multicultural society.
NEGOTIATING PIETY AND PROFESSIONALISM: Hadith, Patriarchy, and the Digital Contestation of Muslimah’s Roles in Islamic Fashion
This article analyzes the negotiation between piety and professionalism in the discourse rejecting Muslimah (Muslim women) as models for Islamic fashion on social media. This study employs a qualitative netnographic approach, utilizing the Mubādalah (reciprocal or mutual) framework to analyze digital content from the Instagram account @raehanul_bahraen, specifically related to religious narratives on women and modesty. The findings indicate that hadiths related to modesty, decency, and dress codes are frequently simplified and instrumentalized as moral legitimization tools that tend to reinforce patriarchal structures. However, through Mubādalah hermeneutic analysis, this meaning is reoriented from symbolic prohibition toward reciprocal ethical principles that emphasize shared moral responsibility between men and women. Muslim women’s identities in digital spaces emerge as active agents who negotiate piety, autonomy, and self-expression within the dynamics of religious commodification and algorithmic governance. The integration of netnography and Mubādalah highlights the importance of contextual and inclusive reinterpretation of hadith, fostering a more participatory, ethical, and just understanding of Islam within the contemporary digital religious landscape
