Interpreting Waqf Accountability from The Perspective of Indonesian Waqf Managers

    No full text
This transcendental phenomenological study aims to interpret the meaning of waqf accounting through the lived experiences of Indonesian waqf managers (nazhir). Data were collected through in-depth interviews and active observation over approximately two months with three nazhirs representing different institutional settings (a waqf foundation, a waqf institution, and a mosque). The analysis followed phenomenological steps of epoche (bracketing), data horizontalization, clustering of meanings, and the synthesis of an “essence of meaning.” The findings indicate that nazhirs primarily understand waqf accounting as a compulsory recording practice that ensures waqf transactions are properly documented, accountable, and communicable to the public. However, the operational forms vary, ranging from simple manual cashbook records to integrated website-based systems. At the essential level, waqf accounting is perceived as dual accountability: accountability to God (habluminallah) and accountability to people/the public (habluminannas), reflected in commitments to honest, fair, and transparent reporting and to safeguarding the trust (amanah) in line with the waqif’s intention. These results highlight accountability and transparency as foundational mechanisms for strengthening public trust and preventing conflict in waqf management. Practically, the study suggests strengthening reporting capabilities, standardizing procedures, leveraging digital technology, and sustaining public outreach through collaborative efforts among government, waqf institutions, and communities to foster a healthier waqf ecosystem

Digital Transformation of MSMEs: An Accounting Review of the Impact of E-Commerce on Revenue and Financial Performance

    No full text
This study examines the impact of digital transformation through e-commerce adoption on turnover and financial performance of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Kota District, Kudus Regency, Central Java, from an accounting perspective. A quantitative survey was conducted with 51 MSMEs selected using purposive sampling from a population of 103. Primary data were collected via a 1–4 Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using linear regression and paired-sample t-tests to compare turnover before and after e-commerce adoption. The results indicate that e-commerce has a positive and significant effect on both turnover and financial performance; average turnover increased from IDR 1,193,180 to IDR 1,527,450, a 28% rise. Although only 20% of respondents integrated their accounting systems with e-commerce platforms, digital adoption enhanced transaction recording efficiency, financial reporting transparency, and profitability analysis capabilities. These findings highlight the contribution of digital transformation and accounting system integration in improving MSME financial management, providing practical guidance for digital strategy implementation in Kudus

Negotiating Religious Identity in Private Space: A Phenomenological Study of Interfaith Married Couples

    No full text
This phenomenological study deeply reveals the subjective experiences of interfaith couples in Tana Toraja in negotiating religious identities in private spaces. The findings highlight that negotiation is a dynamic process influenced by awareness of differences, adaptation strategies, the socio-cultural context of Tana Toraja, and the formation of subjective meaning. Factors driving interfaith marriages include freedom to choose a partner, feelings of liking and love, and sometimes a lack of understanding of religion. The main implications touch on spiritual principles, with concerns about potential conflict. However, successful negotiation is based on a commitment to mutual respect, active tolerance, open and empathetic communication, compromise, the formation of inclusive family rituals, and the arrangement of space and time. The socio-cultural context of Tana Toraja, along with its family and tolerance values , also influences the dynamics of this negotiation. Minimizing interfaith marriages internally involves several key strategies: 1) Parents or families play a crucial role in fortifying their children through controlling and teaching Islamic beliefs (aqidah) and morals. Moreover, 2) the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA, Kantor Urusan Agama) can optimize the role of Islamic Religious Counselors in each village by collaborating with Mosque Imams to provide counseling on the importance of marriage registration and educate about the potential risks associated with interfaith marriages

The Construction Of Religious Moderation In Education At Ma'had Al-Jamiah: A Study Of Inhibiting And Supporting Factors

    No full text
This study aims to analyze the construction of religious moderation education at Ma'had Al-Jami'ah UIN Walisongo by examining the supporting and inhibiting factors of its implementation. Using the qualitative case study method, data was collected thru in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document review, and analyzed interactively thru reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research findings indicate that the program's success is supported by institutional commitment, an integrated curriculum, and the unique culture of the Ma'had, which emphasizes living values, the role of the mudabbir/mudabbirah, and the social dynamics of the dormitory. However, limited resources, external environmental influences, the diversity of santri backgrounds, and unsynchronized regulations are the main constraints. Theoretically, this research offers a new understanding of ecosystem-based religious moderation in PTKIN dormitories, an aspect that has not been widely discussed in the literature. Practically, this finding confirms Ma'had Al-Jami'ah UIN Walisongo as a strategic space for the formation of moderate character that is contextual, inclusive, and sustainable

Islamic Psychotherapy In Rehabilitation: A Multi-Site Study To Build The Spiritual Intelligence Of Former Drug Addicts

    No full text
Indonesia's "drug emergency" is a term that has emerged due to the increasingly widespread circulation and abuse of drugs in society. Data from the Indonesian National Narcotics Board (BNN) for 2024 shows drug abuse prevalence among ages 15-64 is 5.8%, and in 2023 it was 1.73%. This figure indicates an increase of 4.07%. This situation has influenced the rising number of former drug addicts undergoing rehabilitation at Al Ghozali Islamic Boarding School in Kediri and Sirajuth Tholibin Dua Saman Al Hadad Islamic Boarding School in Blitar. Both boarding schools use an Islamic psychotherapy approach as a means of rehabilitation to develop the spiritual intelligence of former drug addicts. The purpose of this research is to understand the process and post-rehabilitation changes resulting from the Islamic psychotherapy approach. The study uses a qualitative approach with a multi-site research design. The research findings are: (1) The rehabilitation process begins with identity registration, an assessment of individual needs, individual counseling spiritual guidance ("siraman rohani") provided by the caregivers, and rehabilitation support. (2) Post-rehabilitation changes include: awareness of the obligation to worship, application of the concepts of hablum minallah and hablum minannas, a tendency to forgive and be compassionate, caution in speech and action, and the courage to take responsibility. Thus, Islamic psychotherapy not only cures drug addiction but also helps build spiritual resilience in individuals

Dual Identity and Place Attachment to Islamic Third Spaces in the United States

    No full text
There are currently more than 3.45 million Muslims in the United States, for whom new typologies of Islamic spaces are developing to meet their needs. One of these spaces is an organizational typology referred to as a third space.  Islamic third spaces are novel socio-religious environments that seek to support the needs of young U.S. Muslims. In the current exploratory cross-sectional study, I adopt an environmental psychology lens to explore how attachment to third spaces impacts dual identification. Data gathered from 110 U.S. Muslim third-space attendees show a significant positive relationship between participants’ place attachment to third spaces and their dual identification. Demographic variables, including gender, race or ethnicity, immigration status, and Islamic religious status, did not impact dual identification. In conclusion, developing and maintaining significant places for Muslims, such as third spaces, is one way to promote a well-integrated U.S.-Muslim identity

    No full text
Amidst an ethical and moral crisis marked by rising bullying and social injustice, implementing character education through the 5S practice (Senyum, Salam, Salim, Sapa, Sopan) in madrasas is crucial to reinstilling Islamic educational values. This study aims to describe how the 5S fosters Islamic character in students at MI Al-Khoiriyyah 2 Semarang. This study is a descriptive qualitative field study. The subjects of the study were homeroom teachers and students who were selected based on their active involvement in implementing the 5S culture in the madrasa environment. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validity strengthened through source and technique triangulation, member checks, and audit trails. Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusion. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of Islamic educational values that can be integrated into the 5S habituation at MI Al-Khoiriyyah 2 Semarang includes: rahmah (compassion), silaturrahmi, respect, strengthening ukhuwah (brotherhood), tawadhu’ (obedience), and social concern. Supporting factors for implementing the 5S habituation at MI Al-Khoiriyyah 2 Semarang include the learning environment, community environment, and family environment. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating how the 5S habituation can effectively integrate Islamic moral values into educational practices. It also provides madrasas with a practical reference for strengthening positive cultures and teacher role models

The Impact of Parental Career-Related Interference on School Burnout: A Mediation Analysis of Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy

    No full text
School burnout characterized by emotional exhaustion, cynicism toward learning, and feelings of incompetence—remains a critical issue in adolescent education, often exacerbated by parental interference in career decision-making. This study examined the direct and indirect effects of parental career-related interference on school burnout, with career decision-making self-efficacy as a mediator. The sample consisted of 383 students from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (Islamic Senior High Schools) in Bekasi City, Indonesia. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, data were analyzed through Hayes’ PROCESS Macro Model 4 to test mediation effects. The results revealed that parental career-related interference positively predicted school burnout (β = 0.27, p < 0.05) and career decision-making self-efficacy (β = 0.31, p < 0.05). In turn, career decision-making self-efficacy negatively predicted school burnout (β = –0.19, p < 0.05). The mediation analysis confirmed a significant indirect effect of parental interference on school burnout through self-efficacy (β = –0.060; 95% CI [–0.14, –0.01]). Descriptive statistics showed that the mean scores for school burnout (M = 58.28, SD = 13.93), parental interference (M = 44.83, SD = 6.51), and career decision-making self-efficacy (M = 87.03, SD = 13.27) reflected a relatively consistent response pattern among participants. These findings highlight the contextual nature of parental involvement. In collectivist societies, some forms of parental career-related interference may be viewed as supportive guidance, which can enhance students’ self-efficacy and reduce school burnout. Practical implications for school counseling interventions and strategies to cultivate constructive parental engagement are discussed

Adoption of Online Zakat Payment in Indonesia an Empirical Investigation: an Extension of the Technology Acceptance Model

    No full text
This study investigates the determinants of online Zakat payment adoption in Indonesia by extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) through the integration of Trust. It examines the effects of Perceived Usefulness (PU), Perceived Ease of Use (PEoU), and Trust on Attitude, as well as the influence of Attitude on Behavioral Intention. A quantitative approach using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed, based on survey responses from 350 participants. The empirical findings show that all hypothesized relationships are significant (p < 0.05). Trust (t = 7.060), PU (t = 4.802), and PEoU (t = 4.222) each have significant positive effects on Attitude, while Attitude strongly influences Behavioral Intention (t = 7.546). The extended model demonstrates moderate predictive relevance for Attitude (R² = 51.9%). Among the antecedents, Trust has the largest effect size (f² = 0.174), indicating its central role in shaping attitudes toward online Zakat payment. These results validate the extension of TAM with Trust in the context of Islamic fintech adoption in Indonesia. The findings highlight the importance of security and transparency, suggesting that Zakat Management Organizations (ZMOs) should strengthen data protection systems and provide transparent reporting to foster positive user attitudes and enhance adoption intentions
