Beyond Words: Teaching English and Promoting Religious Moderation through the Reconstruction of Reading Texts
The character value of tolerance among students has been eroded by the challenges of this disruptive era, necessitating efforts to reinforce it through religious moderation. Meanwhile, English texts can be a solution to instilling religious moderation on a larger scale. Besides, it enriches students’ English skills. However, English reading text with Islamic value is limited and difficult to find. As a result, this study aims to remake texts using religious moderation for English learning and reveal the role of technology in remaking religious moderation reading texts. The qualitative descriptive method is used, and the data collection techniques were interview, observation, and documentation. The finding shows a five-phase framework for developing religious moderation-oriented reading texts: (1) selecting and adapting English texts from verified online sources, (2) conducting a needs analysis aligned with foundational and core competencies in reading skills, (3) contextualizing religious moderation principles into the texts, (4) embedding moderation values through deliberate modifications to narrative elements (e.g., characterization, settings, and plotlines), and (5) designing evaluative quizzes to assess both comprehension of moderation values and English proficiency. This systematic approach ensures the dual pedagogical objectives of fostering religious moderation awareness and enhancing literacy skills are met through culturally responsive material design. In addition, the technology helps the teacher in recreating the English text activity, specifically in searching for relevant and credible reading text resources. It also enhances teachers' creativity to present a more interesting text and quiz
Descriptive Evaluation of Artificial Intelligence in Solving Problems Related to Basic Concepts of Population Genetics
Population genetics is a study area in genetics that requires not only knowledge of genetic concepts, but also the numerical ability to predict the condition of allele frequencies in the population. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has become part of the technological advances that humans utilize, including in studying population genetics. Therefore, it is necessary to ascertain that the information provided by AI has high accuracy and consistency. This research aimed to analyzed accuracy and consistency of several number of AI to solved the problem related to population topics. This research has been conducted using five different AIs (ChatGPT, Gemini AI, Deep AI, ChatSonix AI, and Perplexity AI). These five different AIs tested on two different laptops that connected to different accounts with different search histories. Each AI on the two laptops was asked by questions at six different levels of Bloom's taxonomy. All responses given by the AIs were manually corrected by two separate genetics lecturers from different institutions independently. Results showed that all AIs were highly accurate in their responses to all questions. On to the other side, each type of AI on two different laptops gave responses with different sentence structures, however, they had the same meaning
Learning Direct and Inverse Proportion: A Study in the Framework of Pedagogical Content Knowledge
Many real-life problems are closely related to the concepts of direct and inverse proportion. Therefore, it is essential for students to develop a sound understanding of these concepts. This study aims to observe the mathematics learning process in the classroom, specifically in relation to pedagogical and content knowledge regarding direct and inverse proportion. This research employed a qualitative observational approach to examine how the teaching and learning process unfolds in the context of these mathematical concepts. The study took place on November 28, 2024, involving 28 seventh-grade students from a private junior high school in Bandung, Indonesia. Data were collected through direct classroom observation during the lesson. The primary research instrument was an observation sheet, which was developed to examine the implementation of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) in mathematics instruction. The data analysis process consisted of data processing, data analysis, and data interpretation. The observation of seventh-grade mathematics instruction focusing on the concepts of direct and inverse proportion from a PCK perspective provides insight into how PCK is applied in the mathematics classroom. The predominant use of lecture-based teaching limited students’ opportunities to construct conceptual understanding, resulting in noticeable difficulties in distinguishing between direct and inverse proportion problems. It was found that many students lacked a clear understanding of the differences between direct and inverse proportions, leading to difficulties in identifying whether a given problem involved one or the other. This indicates a need for instructional methods that allow students to construct their own understanding of the topic being taught. Furthermore, the development of instructional materials should be more closely aligned with students’ cognitive characteristics to support meaningful learning experiences. Analysis of the Influence of the Degree of Fiscal Decentralization, Balancing Funds, and Economic Growth on the Islamic Human Development Index (I-HDI) in 8 Provinces in Indonesia
This study aims to analyse the influence of the degree of fiscal decentralization, balancing funds, and economic growth on the Islamic Human Development Index (I-HDI) in eight provinces in Indonesia with the lowest I-HDI scores. To fill the research gap, these provinces were categorised based on I-HDI intervals. This study contributes in addressing empirical gaps by focusing on the regions that have received limited attention in the context of Islam-based human development, as well as substantive gaps by integrating variables of fiscal decentralization and balancing funds that have rarely been directly examined in relation to the I-HDI. Methodologically, the System Generalised Method of Moments (System-GMM) approach is applied to address potential endogeneity and the dynamic nature of panel data. A region’s capacity to finance public expenditure is reflected in the degree of fiscal decentralization, while balancing funds serves as the main source for financing public welfare. Although economic growth is generally expected in enhancing welfare, it may exacerbate social inequality if not accompanied by inclusive policies and equitable distribution. The results of this study indicate that the degree of fiscal decentralization has no significant effect on I-HDI in either the short or long term. Conversely, balancing funds has a significantly negative impact, reflecting allocative inefficiency. Economic growth also negatively affects the I-HDI across both time horizons, indicating that its benefits are not evenly distributed. These findings emphasise the need for comprehensive policy evaluation to improve resource allocation efficiency and promote equitable and sustainable human development in line with the principles of Maqasid al-Shariah (Sharia principles)
Integrating Audiovisual Media to Enhance Learning Concentration in Early Childhood Settings
This study aims to enhance early childhood learning concentration by applying audiovisual media in classroom activities. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, carried out in two cycles, each comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. As a practitioner and researcher, the teacher used a variety of audiovisual tools to improve children’s attention during learning. Data were collected through structured observations and performance assessments that focused on behavioural indicators of concentration, including attentiveness, responsiveness, participation, and task completion. Initial findings revealed that students demonstrated low concentration due to the limited and less engaging use of learning media. To address this issue, diverse audiovisual materials—such as laptops, televisions, sound systems, pop-up cards, posters, and microphones—were systematically integrated into classroom activities. The implementation of these tools resulted in a substantial improvement in students’ concentration, increasing from 58% in Cycle I to 92% in Cycle II. The findings indicate that the structured application of audiovisual media not only enhances focus and engagement but also creates a more interactive and stimulating learning environment in early childhood education settings
Childhood Behavioral Patterns and Professional Character Formation of High-Achieving RA Teachers
This research analyzes behavioral patterns of high-achieving Raudhatul Athfal (RA) teachers in Yogyakarta during their golden age and their impact on professional exemplary behavior. Qualitative research with interpretative psychological approach involved five RA teachers who won the 2017 provincial competition. Data were collected through moderate participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using interactive models with source, technique, and time triangulation. Most subjects lacked formal kindergarten education yet demonstrated superior learning creativity. Four dominant patterns emerged: early independence, physical-mental resilience, spiritual discipline, and natural leadership. Diverse parenting styles (permissive, participative, religious authoritarian, democratic) with value consistency produced high resilience and adaptability. Natural play experiences—playing in rain, helping in rice fields, extensive socialization—became foundations of professional excellence. These childhood experiences directly influenced their innovative teaching methods, strong work ethic, and ability to form meaningful relationships with students and colleagues. Golden age experiences consistently shape RA teachers' exemplary character and professional competence. Findings suggest the necessity for holistic teacher development approaches that consider developmental history alongside formal academic qualifications, potentially revolutionizing early childhood teacher education programs
