Worship Place and Delegitimization of Muslim Minorities in Indonesia: Insights from Indonesia

    No full text
The phenomenon of delegitimization of minority Muslims has become a problem in religious life in Indonesia. Violence, intimidation and division are commonplace. This phenomenon will be seen from the point of view of analytic philosophy. This article aims to examine the chronology of the destruction of places of worship, the main causes of destruction, the inner experiences of the victims, and the pattern of conflict resolution that has been implemented. This article uses Wittgenstein's theory of truth claims, religious exclusivism, and language games. This study analyzes the roots of conflict, the mechanisms of delegitimization, and its impact on social cohesion. This study shows that the conflicts experienced by the Indonesia Institute of Islamic Dawah (LDII) are not solely triggered by doctrinal differences, but are the result of interactions between minority exclusivism, the claims of the majority's truth, social delegitimization, and the failure of inclusive dialogue. The accusation of heresy reflects the struggle for interpretive authority within the Muslim community. With Wittgenstein's framework of language games, differences in teachings are understood as expressions of different ways of life so that they cannot be the basis for misdirection. Therefore, conflict resolution demands an egalitarian dialogue that recognizes the plurality of religious experience and rejects claims of a single truth

The Influence of Perceptions of Rules, Loneliness and Religiosity on Aggressive Behavior in Orphanage Children : Implications for Counseling Services

    No full text
Aggressive behavior in children living in orphanages is an important concern because it can interfere with their socialization process and psychosocial development. Various factors are suspected to influence the emergence of aggressive behavior, including children's perceptions of the rules that apply in orphanages, the level of loneliness experienced, and the level of religiosity of children. This study aims to determine the effect of perceptions of rules, loneliness, and religiosity on children's aggressive behavior at the Tulungagung X Orphanage. The approach used is quantitative with multiple regression methods. The population in this study amounted to 30 orphanage children, with the sampling technique using total sampling. The instruments used are the aggressive behavior scale, the perception of rules scale, the loneliness scale, and the religiosity scale, all of which have been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was carried out with the help of Jamovi software. The results showed that simultaneously, the three independent variables had a significant influence on aggressive behavior (R² = 0.404; p < 0.001). Partially, only loneliness has a significant positive effect on aggressive behavior (p = 0.001), while perceptions of rules and religiosity have a negative effect on aggressive behavior. These findings indicate the importance of strengthening aspects of religiosity, enforcing orphanage rules and providing preventive social intervention programs to minimize loneliness in order to reduce aggressive behavior of children in orphanages

Managing Business in a Muslim Majority Country: A Case Study of Boycott Factors in Non-Muslim Families in Indonesia

    No full text
Business management in each country varied from one another based on their own characteristics, especially in Muslim-majority countries. The prolonged conflict between Israel and Palestine has led all countries to boycott Israeli products, whose movement is known globally as BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions). This quantitative study aims to determine the role of internal factors such as religiosity, self-enrichment, and ethnocentrism in influencing the intention to boycott Israeli-affiliated products. This study examines the willingness of non-Muslims in Indonesia to boycott Israeli-affiliated products. Four hundred respondents from 29 provinces in Indonesia and various backgrounds participated in this study. The analysis used structural equation modelling with partial least squares (SEM-PLS). The results showed that two factors positively influence boycott intentions: self-enhancement and ethnocentrism. Meanwhile, religious religiosity does not influence boycott intentions. The results of this study provide insights for international companies to provide complete transparency on their business operation related to humanistic and inclusive business practices if they want to be accepted by the Indonesian people

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method in Arabic language learning at Pondok Pesantren Mambaul Falah Lorejo Bakung Blitar, as well as to identify supporting factors, challenges, and the significance of its application in developing Arabic language skills and learning attitudes of santri in a contextual and in-depth manner. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, alongside thematic data analysis with source triangulation to ensure validity. The results show that the implementation of PBL, which includes the presentation of authentic problems, small group discussions, and the teacher’s role as a facilitator, effectively creates an active, contextual, and collaborative learning environment that significantly improves the santri’s Arabic communication skills. Key supporting factors include active teacher-student interactions, material relevance, intensive use of Arabic, and the support of learning media. Major challenges such as limited learning resources and teacher competencies need to be addressed to optimize implementation. Overall, PBL proves to be an innovative and effective approach to improving Arabic proficiency and fostering independent, critical learning attitudes with high motivation in the pesantren environment

The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of anxiety among students of Arabic Language Education (PBA) regarding reading skills. To achieve this objective, a questionnaire survey method was employed, distributed to PBA students at IAI BAFA Jombang. The questionnaire measured the anxiety levels of students using a Likert scale from 1 to 4, focusing on the factors influencing anxiety as well as its impact on academic performance. The analysis results showed that 63% of respondents experienced high levels of anxiety, while 27% were at moderate anxiety levels, and 10% reported low levels of anxiety. The main factors contributing to students' anxiety included a lack of preparation (72%), pressure from parental and teacher expectations (63%), and a lack of social support (57%). This research aligns with findings indicating that academic pressure can affect anxiety and is directly related to students' academic performance. Interestingly, in the context of learning Arabic, previous studies revealed that appropriate teaching methods could help enhance academic success, particularly in reading skills. For example, the application of the SQ3R method has proven to improve reading comprehension skills in Arabic texts. This suggests that with the right interventions, instructors can design supportive programs that assist students in overcoming anxiety, thereby improving their academic performance in the reading course (qiro’ah). Based on these findings, it is crucial for instructors to consider the factors influencing students' anxiety and their impact on the teaching-learning process. It is hoped that instructors can develop more effective support programs, such as counseling and skill-based learning, to help students face their academic challenges. Consequently, the aim is to minimize the anxiety experienced by students and ultimately enhance their academic achievement

Integration of Theology, Education, and Activism: Exploring Eco-Theological Discourse and Muhammadiyah’s Environmental Engagement

    No full text
Environmental degradation and climate change are urgent ethical and theological challenges prompting faith-based responses. In Islam, the principles of tauhid (oneness), khilafah (stewardship), and amanah (sacred trust) are reframed into an ecological ethic affirming environmental care as a religious duty. This study aims to explore how Muhammadiyah constructs its eco-theological discourse by analyzing peer-reviewed works from 2021 to 2024 through an integrative literature review and summary matrix. The analysis identifies three core dimensions: theology, education, and activism. Muhammadiyah expands al-Ma’un theology to include ecological justice, embeds environmental values in educational institutions, and promotes activism through legal advocacy, fatwas, and grassroots movements. These efforts position Muhammadiyah as an ethical force in environmental governance. Findings reveal a holistic, replicable model integrating theology, education, and civic action. The study also acknowledges limitations, including limited institutional resources and the absence of empirical evaluation of long-term impacts

    No full text
While offering the advantage of addressing complex problems, interdisciplinary researchers still face a range of significant challenges. This study investigates graduate students' motivations and challenges in conducting interdisciplinary Islamic research. This study employed a quantitative survey method using a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 106 purposively master's and doctoral students elected at Graduate School of UIN Jakarta, with data analyzed through descriptive statistics. The study found that the primary motivation for students to conduct interdisciplinary research in Islamic studies is the desire to solve complex societal problems, followed by the pursuit of practical solutions and self development, while the motivation for obtaining funding or advancing academic careers rank lowest. Students face challenges, such as differences in scientific disciplines, limited methodological grasp, and knowledge gaps with lecturers and peers. This research contributes to enhance academic curricula and institutional support for fostering effective interdisciplinary research in Muslim-majority contexts

Developing the Religious Students Scenario Tolerance Assessment Paradigm (RS-STAP) Scale for Indonesia's Diverse Society

    No full text
This research aims to develop a valid and reliable cultural tolerance measurement scale to measure religious students' tolerance towards cultural differences. The research was carried out in the context of Indonesia, a country rich in cultural diversity. This scale development method follows the Rasch analysis approach. The first study was the identification stage of cultural tolerance dimensions, discussions with cultural experts, generalization of scale items, and target population judgment, which resulted in six scenarios and 48 items. The second item validation study employed Rasch for all generalization items and determined four scenarios and 16 items with higher validity. The third study finalized items using advanced Rasch analysis by trying out the final scale that had been determined. The final scale consists of 16 items derived from four scenarios, with each scenario comprising four items. These items were selected based on their prominent levels of validity and reliability, ensuring that they accurately measure the construct of cultural tolerance. Each item was rigorously tested, and only those with strong statistical support were included in the final scale

    No full text
This study develops and tests the BALIGH (Basic, Awareness, Loyalty, Insight, Growth, Help) instructional model in Islamic Religious Education to prepare students for aqil baligh amid the challenges of pseudo-maturity. Using an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design, qualitative interviews, document analysis, and classroom observations, this study informed the six-stage syntax; a one-group pretest-posttest trial (N = 60) then examined its effectiveness with a six-dimension aqil baligh readiness scale. Paired t-tests, effect sizes, reliability analysis, and N-gain showed substantial improvement from 33.82 to 61.85 (Δ = 28.03; p < .001; N-gain = 0.695), with no low-gain students. The findings demonstrated that BALIGH effectively integrates conceptual-fiqh strengthening, character formation, help-seeking, and school-family support. The model has contributed a theory-grounded, practically applicable toolkit for puberty-focused IRE, and offers a validated structure for monitoring students’ aqil baligh readiness
