“But as Soon as He Is Married, He Deteriorates Immediately”. Fulfilling of the sex roles in the poetic composition “Complaint about the Marriage” by Hynek of Poděbrady
The present study analyzes the poem “Complaint about the Marriage” by Hynek of Poděbrady from the last third of the 15th century. The youngest son of Bohemian King George of Poděbrady introduced the composition, which strengthened the distinction to the less noble men by the means of culturally constructed differences, to the aristocratic audience. Using the attributes of carnival entertainment, the author drew on the experience of his peers − starting a family and assuming the role of a farmer, including the difficulties associated with this transitional phase. The present study analyzes the poem “Complaint about the Marriage” by Hynek of Poděbrady from the last third of the 15th century. Walter Xaver Count of Dietrichstein on the Grand Tour (1683–1688) and his fight against a predestined future
Grand tour of Walter Xaver Count of Dietrichstein (1664–1738) seems to be at first sight quite typical but after closer examination, it can not be considered as one of many. By the time he started his journey, Walter Xaver was already the ordained clergyman and his parents supposed that after having completed a demanding educational program, a great spiritual career awaits him. With that, however, this young man had never reconciled and just during his grand tour there was a major turnaround: on his father he gradually acquired not only directing of his education to be more secular but also the promise that in the future he will be allowed to leave the clergy. The presented study therefore notices not only the course of this grand tour, its itinerary and young aristocrat´s educational programme but also building Dietrichstein\u27s ideas about his future, his disputes with his father and the role of the Hofmeister and answers the question whether and how this struggle influenced young man´s studies and his relationships with his parents.Grand tour of Walter Xaver Count of Dietrichstein (1664–1738) seems to be at first sight quite typical but after closer examination, it can not be considered as one of many. Ethnogenesis of the Slavs: Old and New Questions and Disputes
The ethnogenesis of the Slavs still belongs to the unresolved problems of contemporary science. In the past, a number of theories on the original Slavic homeland came into being. The first complex theory was introduced by Lubor Niederle, who located the original Slavic settlements in the territory around the Carpathian arc, between the Vistula and the Dnieper Rivers. Even nowadays, there are several theories. “The Vistula-Odra theory” looks for the original homeland of the Slavs in the territory of today’s Poland, and the roots of the Slavic ethnic group in the Lusatian and Przeworsk cultures. “The Dnieper theory” searches for the original Slavic region in Eastern Europe, on the Middle Dnieper, and the roots of the Slavic ethnogenesis in the Kiev and Zarubino cultures. The ethnogenesis of the Slavs still belongs to the unresolved problems of contemporary science. THE POSSIBILITIES FOR MODELLING OF BUS CIRCULATION IN THE CASE OF TRANSPORT SERVICE
The paper is focused on possibilities for design of bus circulation in the case of transport service in the frame of a municipality or of a region. Necessary condition is to allocate a bus of adequate type to all connections declared in time schedule in the case of this optimization task. The aim of the solution is to minimize number of buses as well as to minimize volume of unproductive drives. Unproductive drives are evaluated by criterions of distance, time duration (travel time) and operational costs
AIRPORT SECURITY DETECTION C HECK WHAT ARE THE REAL LIMITS?
This article deals with one part of the ongoing project of the Air transport department of the University College of Business in Prague. This project aims to apply modern trends and knowledge in the process of detection checks at airports and thus to modify the screening sites on the basis of this knowledge. Partial goals of the project are behavioural detection and working environment. The text of the article itself deals with the boundary conditions of the project - about limits. These limits mainly concern the absence of the necessary legislative base in the EU. The aim of this article is to highlight important and rigorous marginal conditions in this area that do not allow innovative approaches to most scientific and other projects. That is why the project team of aimed at one of the outputs of the project also proposal for the direction of research activities in this sphere of civil aviation protection against unlawful acts. This article deals with this recommendation
IDENTIFICATION OF THE CAUSES OF NEGATIVE EFFECTS IN THE ENTERPRISE INVENTORYACTIVITIES USING THE TECHNIQUE OF THE THEORY OF CONSTRAINTS
The paper deals with the implementation of the selected Theory of Constraints technique in order to identify the main causes of undesirable consequences in the field of inventory logistics. The need to identify the undesirable consequences of inventory logistics is primarily related to the negative impact on the costs system, profitability and quality of the entire supply chain. Implementation issues especially deal with the individual steps of the process related to the creation of the Theory of Constraints particular tree (technique). The intention of the technique is to identify the main causes that have the most significant impact on side effects of supplying on supply chain
RELIABILITY AND ECONOMY OF NAVIGATION ERGATIC SYSTEMS
Procesné spojenie informačného systému lietadla a človeka (operátor-pilota) sa realizuje prenosom zadanej alebo novo vzniknutej udalosti so známymi súradnicami (x0, t0) do požadovanej pozície s0, so súradnicami (x,y,z) v čase t≥t0 s vopred známou presnosťou a bezpečnosťou. V takom prípade vstupuje do procesu ergatickej navigácie človek (operátor-pilot), ktorý spravidla rieši štatisticky vymedzené prípady, určené konvenčnými koeficientmi vzťahu: posádka - objekt (lietadlo). V článku je navrhnutý model nákladovosti využiteľný pri riešení vyššie uvedených vzťahov a zaistenia spoľahlivej činnosti navigačných ergatikých systémov. The process link of the aircraft and the human (pilot-operator) information system is realized by transferring a given or newly created event with known coordinates (x0, t0) to the desired position s0, with coordinates (x, y, z) at time t≥t0 with the previously known accuracy and security. Aviation producers pay considerable attention to increasing safety and accuracy as well as the economic advantage of aircraft navigation ergatic systems. The definition of safety also includes the definition of reliability of the faultless operation of the navigation ergatic system that is necessary to ensure that the aircraft\u27s on-board system is at the highest level of safety operation. The definition of reliability is defined by the probability that has evaluated the navigation ergatic system. The reliability will not solve the problems what will happen if the system fails. In this case, a person (pilot-operator) enters the process of ergatic navigation, which usually solves statistically defined cases, determined by the mentioned relationships and to ensure the reliable operation of navigation ergatic systems.conventional coefficients of relationship: human - object (aircraft). This paper designs the cost model, which is usable for the above
Writing Personal Trauma in Young Adult Fiction: Benjamin Zephaniah’s Refugee Boy and Siobhan Dowd’s Solace of the Road
In recent decades, the findings of trauma studies have been used in analyzing literary texts depicting trauma. While most critical attention is devoted to so-called historical or collective trauma (such as the Holocaust) and its long-time effects on survivors, there are novels, particularly coming-of-age novels, addressing complex issues of personal trauma. Analyzing Benjamin Zephaniah’s Refugee Boy (2001) and Siobhan Dowd’s Solace of the Road (2009), this paper centers on personal (individual) trauma such as loss, child abuse and/or abandonment, and on traumatic memory in connection with identity formation of a teenage protagonist. It also deals with the textual means of writing trauma and reflects on the category of young adult literature under which both novels were marketed, arguing why Zephaniah’s novel fits the category while Dowd’s can be seen as a crossover novel
A Campus Novel, a Picaresque Novel and a Double Bildungsroman: Reconsidering Michael Chabonʼs Wonder Boys
Michael Chabon’s second novel Wonder Boys (1995) focuses on Grady Tripp, a professor of creative writing whose personal and professional problems culminate during a writers’ festival on campus. A first person account of a series of unexpected events that Grady and his student James Leer experience in and outside of Pittsburgh during one weekend, the novel received mixed reviews. Whereas Robert Ward praised the text for being “the ultimate writing-program novel,” Michael Gorra denounced it, in a rather simplified way, as “another novel about a writer messing up his life.” Most famously, Jonathan Yardley in The Washington Post review appreciated the novel’s style and effective use of comic elements, but concluded that the text portrays a limited experience similar to the author’s own, thus urging Chabon “to move on, to break away from the first person and explore larger worlds.” While Chabon later seemed to follow Yardley’s advice in The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (2000), an ambitious historical novel which earned him the Pulitzer Prize, this paper aims to reconsider Wonder Boys by drawing on its previous criticism and analyzing it as an amalgam of the campus novel, the picaresque as well as both Grady’s and James’s Bildungsroman
Some Recent Biblical Re-writings in English and the Contemporary “Canonical” Images of the Bible
This paper focuses on three contemporary Anglophone rewritings of the Bible (i.e., on Philip Pullman’s The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ (2010), Jeanette Winterson’s Boating for Beginners (1985), and on Jim Crace’s Quarantine (1997)) and contends that the rewrites can be read against the background of the late twentieth-century emergence of dominant understandings of the Bible: of the Bible as a cultural icon and of the Bible as an epitome of liberal/human values. Those dominant – or “canonical” – images of the Bible prefer either to foreground the role the Bible played in the formation of Western culture and democracy, and/or to play down the more scandalous, less palatable features of biblical texts. While the dominant images embody the currently most popular and culturally orthodox perspectives on the meaning of the Bible, other concerns and perspectives are relegated to the margins of interest. Seeing some parallels between such contemporary processes of marginalisation/promotion and the past mechanisms of biblical canon-formation, I argue that the recent biblical rewritings re-enact the process of forgetting, suppressing or proscribing alternative accounts of biblical events, and simultaneously, bring into sharp focus and problematize its twentieth- and twenty-first-century form of canonicity
