Plagiarism in Typee: A Peep at Herman Melville’s Lifting from Travel Narratives
Herman Melville’s first book Typee: A Peep at Polynesian Life During a Four Months’ Residence in the Valley of the Marquesas (1846) made him famous and along with his next narrative Omoo (1847) he maintained an audience both in England and the United States, even though both books were controversial. In Typee, the combination of his plagiarism of obscure travel narratives and his cheap attempts to sensationalize his brief visit on the island of Nuka Hiva with titillating imaginings of beautiful loose native women along with his melodramatic captivity narrative and the irrational fear of anthropophagy reveal, this paper will argue, that in Typee Melville wrote in the main sensational hackwork
Philip Sidney’s Poetics in the Context of Ancient and Continental Examples
The study deals with the main tenets of Philip Sidney’s poetics on the basis of The Defence of Poesy and his poetry (mainly Astrophil and Stella) in the context of Elizabethan considerations of the classical aesthetic concepts (especially that of Aristotle and Horace) and some of the Renaissance continental examples. Sidney’s The Defence of Poesy represents a fundamental step in establishing poetry as the creator of its own world, its so-called second nature, and points out poetry’s ability to create figures and imitate reality; thus the main value of poetry lies in creating clear rhetorical images of moral truth. So Sidney’s poetics plays an important role in establishing English poetry as a device of the national cultural and social autonomy
Early Eighteenth Century’ Jewish Religiousness: A Case of Leibele Prossnitz as Depicted in Bashraybung fun Shabbetai Ẓevi
The study analyses parts of Bashraybung fun Shabbetai Ẓevi dedicated to Leibele Prossnitz, the best-known Moravian adherent of the Sabbatian movement. This early modern Jewish messianic movement is reflected as heretical in academic and non-academic discourse alike and Bashraybung is the only contemporary source describing Leibele Prossnitz’ religious behaviour in more detail. Such described behaviour is put in general context of the early modern European Jewish society to derive those deeds and thoughts of Leibele Prossnitz which are in the text perceived as “normal” (orthodox) and those which are perceived as “extraordinary” (heterodox, heretical). Further, the study distinguishes the deeds and thoughts of Leibele Prossnitz which are specifically Sabbatian, that means those which are shared neither by other messianic enthusiasts of the time nor by other contemporary Jews, and those which are of his own invention. The study is intended to be a contribution to the present discussion on early modern Jewish orthodoxy and heterodoxy. The study analyses parts of Bashraybung fun Shabbetai Ẓevi dedicated to Leibele Prossnitz, the best-known Moravian adherent of the Sabbatian movement. METHODS OF LOGISTICS COST CALCULATION FOR LOGISTICS SERVICE PROVIDERS
Kalkulace logistických nákladů se stala skutečnou výzvou v oblasti logistiky a řízení dodavatelsko-odběratelského řetězce. Značná část logistických výkonů je realizována poskytovateli logistických služeb, tyto podniky hrají klíčovou roli při efektivnějším provozování vybraných průmyslových odvětví. Poskytovatelé logistických služeb si musí být vědomi hlavních provozních faktorů logistických procesů. Tyto procesy by měly být monitorovány a vyhodnocovány prostřednictvím manažerských informačních systémů. V tomto článku bude analyzováno pojetí a význam logistických nákladů a dále budou rozebrány metody kalkulací logistických nákladů u poskytovatelů logistických služeb. Článek vychází z rešerše světové literatury, především ze zdrojů databáze Web of Science.Calculation of logistics costs become a real challenge in logistics management and supply chain. Count Philip Kinsky, the British Ministers, and Society: Social and Political Networks of an Imperial Diplomat in London, 1728–1735
This article analyses parts of the framework that determined the diplomatic mission of Count Philip Kinsky of Wchinitz and Tettau (1700–1749) in London from 1728 to 1736. In 1728, Emperor Charles VI decided to send Count Kinsky to the court of King George II of Great Britain to re-establish diplomatic relations. The aims of Kinsky’s mission to London were challenging, and his inexperience as well as the conflicting political aims of Charles VI and George II complicated matters at first. But over time, the count was able to establish himself and his household in the relevant social and political networks. The study presents the contacts of the imperial diplomat to the opposition, his acceptance into the Royal Society as well as the freemasons, and the use of his position and standing in London society especially during the War of the War of the Polish Succession (1733–1735).This article analyses parts of the framework that determined the diplomatic mission of Count Philip Kinsky of Wchinitz and Tettau (1700–1749) in London from 1728 to 1736.
