NUMERICAL MODELLING OF DRY FRICTION OF PISTON RINGS IN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES
The aim of the article is to experimentally evaluate the contact area and to compare the measured results with different contact model theories. The experiment takes advantage of the electrical contact resistivity principle in a dry piston/cylinder liner test rig assembly. Analytical contact models are implemented into the computational simulation. The calculated contact area depends on the dynamics and precomputed database of contact pressure and contact area in relation to the separation distance of surfaces

The Absent Satirist: The Strange Case of Muriel Spark
Based on her early novels, Muriel Spark was pigeonholed by her contemporaries as a Catholic satirist committed to eternal truths. However, Spark took an increasing delight in elusiveness in her later novels, refusing to confer value on her texts or insert an easily recognizable moral preoccupation. This paper is an attempt to discuss whether Spark’s cool, unengaged quality and ostentatious lack of interest in upholding moral values may or may not enable satire within the confines of its traditional predicament. Since Spark came very close to contradicting many of her previous claims and findings during her dynamic development, I am obliged to utilize novels from different periods, The Ballad of Peckham Rye (1960) and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1961), along with The Abbess of Crewe (1974), to find out whether any method can be derived from her apparent inconsistency
The Island Topos: From Paradise to Prison
This article deals with the transformation of the island topos. The island is frequently depicted as a paradise and prison in English literature and the article elaborates on the transformation of the two topoi. Prior to the depiction of the transformation, the article deals with perceptions and attitudes people have associated with islands throughout history. The core part of the article describes the process of the island transformation. It also points out the significant geographical features of islands which help to change the perception of the environment. Works by English authors such as, The Magus, Utopia, Web, Robinson Crusoe and Gulliver’s Travels are used in order to help illustrate the processes of this transformation
Funding of the Papal Army’s Campaign to Germany during the Schmalkaldic War
This article is based on the recently discovered text of accounting documentation led by the Papal secret accountant Pietro Giovanni Aleotti. He kept records of income and expenses of Papal chamber connected with the campaign of Papal army that was sent from Italy to Germany by Pope Paul III (Alessandro Farnese) in the frame of the first period of so called Smalkaldic War (1546–1547). The author publishes this unique source in extenso and completes the edition by the detailed analysis of the incomes and expenses of this documentation. The analysis is extended by three partial texts dealing with 1) so called Jewish tax that was announced by Paul III in the financial support of military campaign, 2) credit granting of this campaign by the bank house of Benvenuto Olivieri in connection with the collection of Papal tithe in the Romagna region and 3) staffing of the commanding officers of Papal army during this campaign (in the attachment one can find a reconstruction of the officers’ staff with identification of the most important commanders). In the conclusion the author tries to determine the real motives why Paul III decided to take part in this campaign. In comparison to the previous works the author accents mainly the efforts of the Farnese family to raise their prestige at the end of the pontificate of Paul III and their immediate financial interests that are reflected in the account documentation. This article is based on the recently discovered text of accounting documentation led by the Papal secret accountant Pietro Giovanni Aleotti. Lutherʼs Anniversary (1717) and Conversion in the Saxon Electorʼs Court: starting points and possibilities of the research
The 200th Anniversary of Reformation, so called Lutherʼs Jubilee, in 1717, was in Saxony and also in the Holy Roman Empire connected with the conversion of the Electoral Prince Frederick Augustus (in spe Augustus III) to Catholicism. This change of the confession of the Wettinsʼ family (not only in the context of history of Protestants and also Catholics) has been interpreted by historians for a long time. And what kind of new historical methodology could be used for reinterpretation of this historical reality? The 200th Anniversary of Reformation, so called Lutherʼs Jubilee, in 1717, was in Saxony and also in the Holy Roman Empire connected with the conversion of the Electoral Prince Frederick Augustus (in spe Augustus III) to Catholicism. MEASURING AND TESTING NDB EQUIPMENT IN SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
Príspevok sa zaoberá problematikou merania a vyhodnocovania nesmerového rádiomajáku (NDB) prostredníctvom letového laboratória Aerolab 1, Žilinskej univerzity v Žiline. Automatický rádiový kompas (ARK) a nesmerový rádiomaják (NDB) tvoria nastraší letecký navigačný systém, ktorý sa používa dodnes. Pracuje na pomerne jednoduchom princípe radiového vysielania nesmerového signálu z pozemného vysielača (NDB) rádiovej antény a príjmu signálu na palube prostredníctvom smerovej antény.
This paper describes the consistent preview of the measuring and testing Non Directional Beacon with using flying laboratory Aerolab 1 at University of Zilina. The ADF/NDB navigation system is one of the oldest air navigation systems still in use today. It works from the most simple radio navigation concept: a ground-based radio transmitter (the NDB) sends an omnidirectional signal that an aircraft loop antenna receives
Franz Anton von Dietrichstein (1643-1721) – Nobleman in the Ranks of the Society of Jesus
The study deals with the personality of Franz Anton von Dietrichstein and his (seemingly) sudden decision to enter the Jesuit order during his study stay in Rome in 1666 and resign from the already acquired canonry in Passau, Regensburg and Olomouc. The article works with the correspondence kept by Franz Anton and his tutor Josef Seim with prince Ferdinand von Dietrichstein, Franz´s half-brother and legal guardian, and tries to analyze in what way Franz could arrive at this decision, why it was problematic for his family and how this new situation, which in the end really resulted in Franz´s entry into the novitiate, was perceived. At the same time, the paper tries to present this individual story in the context of the present knowledge of the church and religious order career of the nobility. The second part of the study represents Franz\u27s decision and his subsequent order life from the perspective of his post-mortem elogium from 1721.The study deals with the personality of Franz Anton von Dietrichstein and his (seemingly) sudden decision to enter the Jesuit order during his study stay in Rome in 1666 and resign from the already acquired canonry in Passau, Regensburg and Olomouc.
