Percutaneous nephrolithotomy using fluoroscopic guided renal access

    Get PDF
Objective: To report our experience of over 500 patients treated with Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) at a tertiary as well as secondary Care hospital. Despite PCNL's early success as a minimally invasive treatment option, its popularity has waned after the advent of extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL). Over time, however, urologists were forced to rethink the role of PCNL in the treatment of Urolithiasis after clinical experience with ESWL revealed its limitations, particularly for lower pole stones with anatomical complexity and the challenges faced for open surgical procedures, particularly stones in an intrarenal pelvis. Urologists have advanced into the era of ever-expanding PCNL versatility thanks to advancements in tools, camera systems, and intracorporeal lithotripsy technology, and they now have expert skills of percutaneous stone dissolution in to all parts of the kidney. Patients and Methods: Between 2013 and 2019, 500 participants (358 males, 142 females, and aged 15-55 years) were addressed with PCNL by a single Urologist in our institution at both a tertiary care hospital and a secondary care hospital. Stones averaged 2.5 cm in diameter (ranging from 1.5 to 3.5 cm).&nbsp

The research aimed to investigate the impact of using smart applications, specifically the "Sehhaty" application, on healthcare in primary care centers in the Al Qurayyat province. The study used a descriptive-analytical methodology and relied on an electronic questionnaire as a tool for data collection. The study sample consisted of 213 residents of Al Qurayyat and 211 individuals from major cities. The study found that the most common method used to obtain healthcare services inside and outside the province was through the "Sehaty" application, but the residents of Al Qurayyat were the least likely to use it. The study also found that the level of knowledge and ease of use of the application was slightly lower among residents of the province. Additionally, the study found that residents of the province benefited more from the services of the application and that residents of major cities were more satisfied with the application's services. The most significant problem encountered by both residents of the province and major cities when using the application was the need for a high-speed internet connection. The study recommended several measures to optimize the use of the application

    Get PDF
Background: The prevalence of lung cancer has shown an increase over the last few years which cause both health and economic burden. The biopsy is the gold standard tool for disease diagnosis, but it is usually not accepted by the patients due to its invasive nature. The use of non-invasive biomarkers is now attaining a great interest in diagnosis. Aim of the work: Assess the role of Annexin A1 in bronchoalveolar lavage and serum in the early diagnosis of lung cancer. Patients and methods: This study included 39 patients into two groups; group A (cases with lung cancer) and group B (cases with non-malignant lung lesions). All subjects were submitted to history taking and thorough full physical examination and laboratory analysis. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) was performed in the cases within the two groups. Both serum and BAL levels of annexin A1 were assed in all cases. Results: In the current study, the level of annexin A1 in the serum and BAL were statistically significantly higher in the malignant group as compared with the non-malignant group (P 0.001).&nbsp

The impact of insulin on patient quality of life

    Get PDF
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to the body's inability to effectively produce or utilize the hormone insulin (American Diabetes Association, 2022). Insulin is a critical hormone produced by the pancreas that enables the body to regulate blood sugar levels by facilitating the uptake of glucose into cells for energy or storage (Wilcox, 2005). Without sufficient insulin production or function, blood glucose levels can become dangerously high, leading to a variety of serious health complications. There are two main types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2, which differ in their underlying causes and treatment approaches. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder where the body mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas, resulting in an absolute insulin deficiency (Atkinson et al., 2014). Type 2 diabetes is typically associated with lifestyle factors such as obesity and physical inactivity, and is characterized by the body's reduced sensitivity and responsiveness to insulin, a condition known as insulin resistance (Kahn, 2014). Regardless of the type, diabetes requires careful management through lifestyle modifications and/or pharmaceutical interventions, including the administration of exogenous insulin,,,&nbsp
