Methods: A comprehensive review of epidemiological data, clinical studies, and emerging therapeutic innovations was conducted. The role of multidisciplinary teams and the impact of histological and molecular classifications on patient care were explored. Special attention was given to documentation practices and nursing interventions to ensure holistic care. Results: Lung cancer survival rates remain low, with a 5-year overall survival of 19%. However, targeted therapies and immunotherapy demonstrate potential in extending survival for specific subgroups. Disparities in outcomes are evident, influenced by gender, race, socioeconomic status, and LGBTQ identity.&nbsp

The role of health information in reducing errors resulting from the similarity of names in patients

    Get PDF
In order to match patient records with laboratory data and to assure prompt and accurate identification, hospitals and health clinics in many countries are introducing healthcare smart cards with embedded microchips. The cards are designed to give healthcare professionals access to both the information they need and the results of clinical tests for the patient they are treating, provided the patient can give the smart card to the health professional at the time of the visit to the doctor. If the patient forgets the smart card, does not have the card, or refuses to give the card to the health professional, new software applications have been developed to identify the correct patient from other demographic fields in the health information system database. Over the years, there has been research investigating the algorithmic match choices in order of importance when demographic matching, using the health information system on similar and same names of patients with the same date of birth. The focus of the research on similar names of patients was a blend of not only trust and confidence but also included matching accuracy, speed, and computational effort in relation to the computer's CPU processing power

    Get PDF
Background: Occupational stress, particularly among prehospital emergency nurses, significantly impacts health outcomes and job performance. Factors such as high job demands, workplace violence, and inadequate training contribute to elevated stress levels, affecting mental health and employee retention. Methods: A systematic review was conducted using databases including PubMed, WOS, Enfispo, Cochrane, and LILACS to 2022. The search strategy focused on keywords related to "occupational stress" in nursing, specifically targeting prehospital care settings. A total of 14 studies were analyzed to categorize stressors and protective factors affecting emergency nurses. Results: The review identified five primary categories of stressors: management-related, patient care, interpersonal dynamics, environmental conditions, and personal factors. Notably, exposure to workplace violence and the emotional toll of pediatric emergencies were significant contributors to stress. Conversely, strong peer support and adequate managerial resources emerged as key protective factors. The findings suggest that 25% to 65% of prehospital nurses experience high levels of stress, largely influenced by their work environment and organizational responses. Conclusion: The study underscores the urgent need for improved training and support systems for prehospital emergency nurses to mitigate stress and enhance job satisfaction. Implementing mindfulness practices and addressing workplace violence can significantly improve the mental well-being of healthcare professionals.&nbsp

    Get PDF
Plant derived mucilage, due its role in promoting human health, has been extensively used as active constituent for the preparation of different pharmaceuticals, functional and nutraceutical products. Mucilage mainly consists of complex carbohydrates with extremely branched structure. Abelmoschus esculentus L. (Moench), belongs to family Malvaceae, is an annual herb commonly known as okra. The purpose of this study was the identification of bioactive polysaccharides present in the mucilage of okra pods and evaluation of their biological activities. Mucilage was extracted by soaking okra pods in water. The dried mucilage was fractionated in 75% ethanol, which resulted in soluble and insoluble fractions. Each fraction was screened which confirmed the presence of galacturonic acid, saturated and unsaturated polysaccharides. Crude, soluble and insoluble fractions were processed for investigating their biological activities. The results indicated that insoluble fraction was able to inhibit the growth of five human pathogenic bacterial strains i.e. Staphylococcus aureus (1.9 mm ± 0.27mm), Escherichia coli (2.8mm ± 0.44mm) and Shigella (2.9mm ± 0.85mm). However, no significant inhibition was observed against Klebsiella pneumonia and Salmonella typhi. Antioxidant capacity was determined through DPPH assay where the soluble fraction showed IC50 value 785.5 μg/mL while the insoluble fraction showed IC50 value 987.21 μg/mL.&nbsp
