The role of clinical pharmacists in chronic disease management: Review
Background: Chronic diseases, particularly non-communicable diseases (NCDs), are leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally. Effective management of these conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), requires a multidisciplinary approach, including the integration of clinical pharmacists into patient care teams. Methods: This review analyzed literature from seven databases, including MEDLINE and EMBASE, focusing on pharmacist interventions in the management of chronic diseases, specifically type 2 diabetes and asthma, to assess their applicability to IBD. Studies published between 2014 and 2023 were included to evaluate the impact of pharmacist-led initiatives on clinical outcomes. Results: The findings reveal that pharmacist interventions significantly improve patient outcomes in chronic disease management through medication management, patient education, and regular monitoring. While type 2 diabetes and asthma management strategies have been well-documented, there is a notable gap in research regarding pharmacist involvement in IBD care. Proposed interventions for IBD include medication adherence support, risk assessment, and preventive health services, which have demonstrated effectiveness in other chronic conditions. Conclusion: The integration of clinical pharmacists into the management of inflammatory bowel disease presents a valuable opportunity to enhance patient care.
The effect of susceptibility to false memories and phobia of feeling happy on the parental burden of caregivers of mothers of children with disabilities
Background Raising a child with a disability can be a feeling of isolation and exhaustion, and understanding the health challenges faced by parents with children with disabilities is essential to providing adequate health care. Objectives The current study aimed to find out the impact of both susceptibility to false memories and phobia of feeling happy on the parental burden of caregivers of mothers of children with disabilities. Method: Participated in the study 132 As for Mothers of Children with Disabilities. Their age ranged from (20-over 35) years. The effect of susceptibility to false memories prepared by Ibrahim (2020) And the measure of happiness phobia Barakat (2020)The Parental Burden Scale for Caregivers of Mothers of Children with Disabilities.(Oh & Lee, 2009) Results: Susceptibility to false memories of mothers of children with disabilities was associated with an average level (89.5), a level of happiness phobia (83.0), and a medium level of parenting stress (102. 1). The results also showed that false memory susceptibility had no indirect effect on age, mother status, and happiness phobia variables, and that false memory susceptibility had no effect on happiness phobia, considering age, mother status, and education level variables, except for MRFDSTM.
Awareness and practices regarding thalassemia among parents of transfusion dependent beta thalassemia patients registered with Hamza Foundation Peshawar, Pakistan
Thalassemia, a pervasive and chronic condition that impacts an estimated 200 million people worldwide, is predominantly caused by the beta-thalassemia gene, which is found in approximately 3% of the global population. The purpose of this research, which was carried out from June to December 2022 at the Haemophilia Hospital of the Hamza Foundation Welfare Thalassemia, was to evaluate the knowledge and behaviours of guardians of transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia patients who were registered with the foundation. The findings of the research, which utilised non-probability convenience sampling to select 150 parents, indicated that 38.7% of the parents surveyed were cognisant of thalassemia, whereas permanent treatment was conspicuously unknown to them. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that a substantial proportion (94%) of parents readily shared food, underscoring the criticality of implementing educational and awareness campaigns targeting not only parents but the broader populace in order to rectify the lack of understanding regarding thalassemia. The fact that genetic counselling was availed of by a minuscule proportion (13.3%) of parents underscores a possible avenue for enhancement in comprehensive care approaches
The effect of using pregnancy exercise e-books on pregnant women's knowledge and skills in independent midwife practice: Experimental study in independent midwife practice in Bengkulu City in 2023
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of E-book media on pregnancy exercise on increasing knowledge and skills of pregnant women regarding pregnancy exercise at the Independent Practice of Midwife S in Bengkulu City. The quantitative research method used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest posttest two group design. The study was conducted at PMB S in Bengkulu City, in July 2023. Sampling used purposive sampling with a sample size of 37 respondents in the experimental group using the E-book pregnancy exercise and 37 respondents in the control group using the pregnancy exercise book. Data analysis used an independent T test for differences between groups and a paired sample T test for differences between groups with SPSS. The results of the study on the knowledge of pregnant women in the group given the E-book showed a greater mean rank than those given the book. The results of the Mann Whitney statistical test obtained a ρ value of 0.000 (p <0.05). This means that the use of the e-book pregnancy exercise increases knowledge of pregnancy exercise at the independent practice of midwife S in Bengkulu City.
Renal stones: An updated review about natural remedies
Background: Urolithiasis is a prevalent global health issue characterized by the formation of kidney stones, significantly impacting patient quality of life and healthcare costs. The increasing incidence of kidney stones, particularly among individuals over 30, places a considerable financial burden on healthcare systems, with estimates reaching USD 5.3 billion in 2014. Aim: This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest natural remedies for managing renal stones, discussing their efficacy and integration into existing treatment paradigms. Methods: A thorough literature review was conducted, focusing on recent studies and clinical guidelines from organizations like the American Urology Association (AUA) and the European Association of Urology (EAU). The effectiveness of various natural remedies was analyzed alongside conventional treatment options. Results: The review identifies several natural remedies that may complement traditional therapies for renal stones. These include dietary modifications, hydration strategies, and herbal supplements that demonstrate potential benefits in stone prevention and management. Conclusion: While conventional medical treatments remain the cornerstone of urolithiasis management, natural remedies may offer valuable adjunctive options. Further research is warranted to establish standardized protocols for integrating these remedies into clinical practice
Effects of residential safety management to prevent falls in the elderly
The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to investigate the effects of residential safety management among 60 elderly population in a 5-star elderly school. A simple random sampling method was employed to select 30 elderly people who voluntarily participated in the research with appropriate protection of rights. They were randomly assigned into an experimental group and a comparison group. Four activities were continuously organized in the experimental group for a total of 8 weeks. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, and paired t-test. The results showed that 30.0% of elderly people experienced falls in the house; 40.0% had been injured from an accident in the house; 33.3% had slipped or tripped and 50.0% of them (15 people) were injured and hospitalized. The most common cause of falls was blurred vision (50.0%). After the residential safety management to prevent falls was carried out, the elderly people’s knowledge, attitude, and behavior scores increased in all three areas. When comparing the mean scores before and after the residential safety management to prevent falls in the elderly, there was a statistically significant difference (p-Value = 0.05).
