Von Willebrand disease: A case report
An hereditary bleeding illness is Von Willebrand Disease (vWD). Along with normal or declining factor VIII levels, von Willebrand factor (vWF) levels also fall. Clinical signs include bleeding that looks "platelet-like" and bleeds resemble factor VIII insufficiency. Life-threatening bleeding might result from the strategic position of the bleed, the volume of blood lost, or complications brought on by the significant blood loss. Treatment modalities include desmopressin (DDAVP) and replacement of vWF. The aim of this report is to make health professionals aware of this possibility that could be in operating on bleeding patients
An image processing approach for enumeration of leukemia infected cells for diagnosis
Image processing techniques are helped to improve the diagnosis of various diseases using medical images. Leukemia, a blood cancer, is one of the commonest malignancies affecting both adults and children. As per the reports, leukemia was the fifth and sixth cause of death in men (7%) and women (5.8%) with cancer, and it was the first cause of death in children with cancer between 1–4 and 5–14 years old, with 48.5% and 52.2% of deceases, respectively. Hematologists microscopically examine the blood under a light microscope for diagnosis. This process is very tedious, time-consuming, and not suitable for analyzing a large number of cells. The enumeration of infected cells for the diagnosis of leukemia will assist to overcome these drawbacks. Enumeration of blood cells plays a very important role in the health sector. In this paper, we have proposed the enumeration of leukemia-infected cell parasites in microscopic blood images. The infected parasites are detected by the proposed threshold method by maximizing the between-class variance and entropy of black and white pixels. The enumeration is carried out by connected component labeling technique from binary decision image obtained in maximizing entropy
Sleep pattern changes in patients with lung cancer
Background: There are multiple connections between sleep and lung cancer. Both of them impacting each other lung cancer can make it difficult to sleep well due to symptoms and treatment side effects( 20-70% of cancer patients suffer of insomnia) .Also there is possible relationship between lung cancer and nocturnal intermittent hypoxia, apnea and daytime sleepiness, progression of lung cancer considered as risk factor of obstructive sleep apnea severity. Aim of the work: to evaluate sleep pattern changes in patients with lung cancer. Patients and methods: 26 patients with non small cell lung cancer were interviewed for assessment of histopathological subtypes and stages according to TNM classification and treated at Department of Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy and surgical treatment were scheduled), they underwent to sleep questionnaire and Epworth Sleepiness Score (ESS).overnight full polysomnography was done
Comparison of efficacy between two doses of dexamethasone as an intratympanic injection in Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Introduction: Most cases of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) are idiopathic, so there is no specific treatment protocol for this set of patients, which is accepted worldwide. Some temporal bone studies regarding histopathological findings in SSHL cases found that most of the lesions were in the cochlea and its structures. The histological findings suggest that some inflammatory, vascular or immunological aetiology are present behind such lesions in cochlea. Inflammation being one of the major among all the aetiologies, so steroids are the mainstay of treatment for Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSHL) cases. Material and methods: A prospective comparative study was done on 56 patients aged 18 to 70 years. Patients received 4mg/ml dose (Arm A) or 8mg/ml dose (Arm B) ofintratympanic dexamethasone injection. The targeted recovery on 5th day after 1st intratympanic steroid injection was compared with baseline Pure tone Audiometry (PTA)of day 1 for both the groups. Statistical analysis: More than 20db improvement in PTA average (0.5K,1k and 2k) onassessment at 5th day after 1stinjection was considered as recovery criteria. A comparison was done on improvement between two arms
Physico-chemical study of the water table in the region of Mnasra, Morocco
The considerable increase in the leachate infiltration rate through the Oulad Berja landfill as well as agricultural activities in the Mnasra region have a detrimental effect on the quality of groundwater. The percolation of leachate through the unsaturated zone of the soil, towards the water table, could have serious consequences on the quality of water and the environment in general. Groundwater is the only source of drinking water supply for the rural population of the Mnasra zone. As part of the assessment of the water quality of wells in the Mnasra region, we analyzed 30 water samples taken from different wells during the year 2019-2020. The analyzes were carried out in the "ONEP" laboratories The comparison of the results obtained with the WHO standards revealed a high level of pollution compared to the recommended standards. These results made it possible to classify these waters in the bad to very bad category
Dietary intervention program based on short messages service for mothers of children with iron deficiency anemia
Background: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) can happen at any age; it is more common in young children. Anemia is a nutritional issue that has a major influence on growth, cognition, work performance, and other areas throughout a person's reproductive years and beyond. Aim: The study aimed to investigate the effect of dietary intervention-based short messages service for mothers of children with iron deficiency anemia. Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used in the current study. Setting: The research was carried out in Pediatric Outpatient Clinics at Damanhour University Hospital. Subject: Non-probability purposive sampling technique was used to select a sample of 100 mothers with their children. Tools: Tool (I): Mothers' interview questionnaire, it was composed of four parts: Part (1): Mothers' personal data, Part (2): Children's' personal data, Part (3): Children's medical history, Part (4): Mothers' knowledge assessment questionnaire regarding iron deficiency anemia, Tool (II): Mothers' reported practices assessment questionnaire regarding iron deficiency anemia, and Tool (III): Iron level was determined by measuring hemoglobin and serum ferritin concentrations. Results: There was a highly statistically significant difference and improvement between the studied mothers regarding total knowledge and reported practices about iron deficiency anemia pre and post-dietary intervention-based short messages service implementation
The knowledge and attitudes of Saudi and Egyptian professionals and non-professionals toward vitiligo patients: A comparative quasi-experimental study
Introduction: Vitiligo is a protracted skin disorder in which areas of skin lose their color. Numerous research has revealed that psychosocial therapies can lessen the effect of social stigma on the degree of vitiligo impairment. Objective: This study examines how an educational intervention affects the knowledge and attitudes of Egyptian and Saudi professionals and non-professionals toward patients with vitiligo. Materials and Methods: A quantitative, comparative quasi-experimental study was conducted with 357 participants at the College of Nursing-Jeddah (CON-J), Saudi Arabia, and the Faculty of Nursing, Menoufia University, Egypt. To complete the study, three valid and reliable tools were utilized: demographic and personal characteristics, the IOF Scale, and knowledge and attitudes. Results: A high percentage of Egyptians (81.4%) and Saudis (81.1%) had a higher education level, and nearly two-thirds (66.5%) were single. The total sample (n = 375) spanned the ages of 20 to 50 years. Most (94.6%) Saudis live in cities, 82.2% are health professionals, and nearly two-thirds (69.7%) are middle-class. After the intervention, there was a high level of knowledge difference between Egyptian and Saudi participants (professional and non-professional) at (p = 0.021); (p = .001), respectively.

A study of prevalence and morphology of various types of leukemia’s at a tertiary care centre (Dhiraj Hospital) Piparia Vadodara
Introduction: Haematological malignanacy comprises a major health problem due to its high mortality and morbidity. A progenitor cells either becomes a myeloid or lymphoid progenitor cell. The various types of hematological malignancies can be grouped according to which pathway they travel. It is important to identify haematological maliganancies for prognosis and management lacunae for better risk assessment and treatment. Method: All cases with abnormal hematological findings (200 sample size) from different departments were sent to the central laboratroy. According to clinical information, hematological findings and morphologic appearance of the malignant cells, types of leukemia was diagnosed. Result: Out of the 200 patients, 120 had acute leukemia, which was the most common type. The present study shows that the majority of patients having leukemia have hemoglobin in the range of 6.1-9.0 gm/dl, WBC count in the range of 51,000-1,00,000 and platelet count <50,000. Conclusion: The observation made from the study has shown maximum number of cases in the age group of 41-60 years and with male predominance. Among all leukemias, CML is the most common malignancy in the study
