Quantitative determination of a Mesalazine using reversed phase high- performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC)
Mesalazine was quantified in a fast, accurate and sensitive way using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method. In this method, a separation column of porous silica particles L10 (300 × 4.6mm) was used, the flow rate is 0.8 ml/min, the column temperature is 25 °C, the reagent wavelength is 230 nm, and the injection volume is 20 μl. As for the mobile phase, it consisted of acetonitrile 10% 0.1 and phisphoric acid 0.1% and 90% water and the pH was 4. The method was validated by calculating the recovery that ranged between (95.0457-102.280%), and the correlation coefficient (0.9991) and linearity (20-160 μg/ml).The method was successfully applied for the quantitative determination of the mentioned drug
Relationship between IL-20 and diabetic nephropathy in AL Anbar governorate
Background: Diabetic syndrome is characterized by increase blood sugar and resistance to insulin. It is linked to macrovascular and microvascular complication such as nephropathy, neuropathy, and retinopathy. Conclusion: serum Interleukin 20 level show significance difference between patients and Healthy controls groups. that’s lower in patients groups
Body mass index and glucose level among type 2 diabetic patients
Background and Aim: Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that can affect nearly all organ systems in the body. Obesity and insulin resistance are risk factors for type II diabetes; while the amount of insulin the body produces in obese people is normal, it may not be enough to meet the body's needs. The study aimed to compare glycosylated hemoglobin among obese and non-obese diabetic patients. Method and Material: A case-control study design was conducted on (80) type II diabetic patients who attended Al-Wafaa Specialized Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology by purposive sampling at Mosul city in Northern Iraq for a period extended from 25th December 2021 to 10th February 2022. The estimation of HbA1c was done by using BS230 Mindray. Results: Patients with type II diabetes who are obese exhibit a considerable rise in HbA1c levels, with a mean of (9.50 ± 1.90) compared to (8.10 ± 1.90) in non-obese type II diabetic patients at P-value = 0.002 (t-test =3.191). Conclusions: The HbA1c levels are higher in obese type II diabetes patients than in non-obese diabetic patients
A relationship of contactin-1 with a number of trace elements in Iraqi rheumatoid arthritis patients with and without COVID-19
Background: Anti-inflammatory intermediaries like contactin-1 (CNTN-1) play an essential role in regulating several diseases, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). This paper explores the relationship between CNTN-1 and a number of trace elements in RA patients with and without COVID19. Accordingly, it investigates whether there are any correlations between CNTN-1 and some trace elements. Materials and Methods: The paper involved 56 patients, where 28 suffer from RA without any complications, the other 28 have RA with COVID19 attending Al-Fallujah teaching hospital and 28 healthy persons matching in age, sex and ethnic background as control group. Serum level of contactin-1 was estimated by ELISA technique while Uric acid, urea, creatinine, lipid Profile, zinc, copper, ferrous and magnesium were assessed by colorimetric enzymatic methods. Results: The results demonstrated that Contactin-1 serum concentrations had existed more significantly in patients with and without COVID19. However, RA patients and RA with Covid-19 patients showed lower levels of magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe) and Fe/Cu ratio. High serum concentrations of CNTN-1 have been identified and associated positively with ESR and Cu/Zn, while serum concentrations of CNTC-1 were positively related with total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), copper (Cu), zn and iron (Fe)
Evaluating Galectin-3 (LGALS3) +191 gene variant and serum Galectin-3 levels in Egyptian children with familial mediterranean fever
Background: The most important and devastating complications of Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is renal amyloidosis, usually affecting the kidneys leading to end stage renal failure. FMF- related renal amyloidosis needed to be diagnosed early. Optimal colchicine dose is effective in prevention and reversing renal amyloidosis. Aim of the work: to evaluate serum galectin-3 level and its gene polymorphism (LGALS3 191 C>A) as a marker of proteinuria and subclinical inflammation in Egyptian children and adolescents with FMF. Methods: Fifty FMF patients in attack free period and 40 healthy children were included as a control group. Serum levels of galectin-3 were measured, Galectin-3 (LGALS3) c.191 C>A (rs4644) gene variant was investigated and morning spot urine was collected for determination of albumin / creatinine ratio (ACR). Results: Serum Galectin-3 levels were significantly higher in FMF patients than control group, P < 0.03. Regarding genotype and allele distribution of (LGALS3) c. 191 C>A polymorphism there was statistical significant difference between cases and control, 13 patients (42%) had CC and the remaining 37 patients (63%) were CA. The control had 18 child (58%) with CC compared to 22 child with CA (37%) and BUN level was higher among CC type of Galectin-3 (LGALS3) c.191 C>A
Hernioplasty technique in wound complications prevention
Background: The issues of prevention of wound complications in the surgical treatment of postoperative ventral hernias (POVG) remain relevant due to the increase in the number of surgical interventions on the abdominal organs and the development of postoperative ventral hernias in the aftermath. Despite the large number of proposed hernioplasty techniques for postoperative ventral hernias, the rates of wound complications remain high. The use of synthetic materials did not provide a reduction in the amount of infection in the area of surgical intervention. In this connection, the improvement of surgical treatment of patients with postoperative ventral hernias, aimed at the prevention of wound complications, is becoming even more relevant. Wound complications prevention in the surgical treatment of postoperative ventral hernias remains relevant due to the increase in the number of operative abdominal interventions. Therefore, improving surgical rehabilitation of patients in the postoperative period in order to minimize wound complications acquires special practical importance.
