Psoriasis is a chronic and relapsing inflammatory skin disease that affects both genders at all ages. The purpose of this study is to identify the correlation between psoriasis area severity index (PASI) and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) for patients with plaque psoriasis before and after treatment with Lactobacillus plantarum IS-10506. This was a before after cohort study. Adults with mild to moderate psoriasis were recruited into the study. All participants received the original Indonesian probiotic strain Lactobacillus plantarum IS-10506 at a dose of 2x1010 colony forming units (CFU) per day for six weeks. A total of 22 patients, with a mean age of 43 years, participated in the study. Participants had psoriasis for an average of 14 years. There was a correlation between PASI score and several quality-of-life questionnaire elements in certain condition, such as professional jobs, unemployment, obesity, and joint symptoms. The correlation between particular conditions reveals that occupations, obesity, and joint symptoms have a greater impact on psoriasis patients

    Get PDF
Aim The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate importance of TMJ and assessing the prevalence of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJD) among the general population. Methodology Five main electronic databases and three grey literature were searched to identify observational studies in which TMJD was diagnosed using the research diagnostic criteria (RDC/TMD) or diagnostic criteria (DC/TMD). The studies were blindly selected by two reviewers based on eligibility criteria. Risk of bias (RoB) was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist, and the “R” Statistics software was used to perform meta-analyses. Results From 2741 articles, 21 were included. Ten studies were judged at low RoB, seven at moderate, and four at high. The TMJD investigated were as follows: arthralgia, disk displacement (DDs) with reduction (DDwR), DDwR with intermittent locking, DDs without reduction (DDwoR) with limited opening, DDwoR without limited opening, degenerative joint disease (DJD), osteoarthritis, osteoarthrosis, and subluxation. The main results from prevalence overall meta-analyses for adults/elderly are as follows: TMJD (31.1%), DDs (19.1%), and DJD (9.8%). Furthermore, for children/adolescents are as follows: TMJD (11.3%), DDs (8.3%), and DJD (0.4%). Considering the individual diagnosis meta-analyses, the most prevalent TMJD is DDwR for adults/elderly (25.9%) and children/adolescents (7.4%).&nbsp

Amorphous solid dispersions of ritonavir by melt-quenching: A quality by design approach

    Get PDF
Ritonavir is crystalline solid which is very slightly soluble in water yet having high dose. This condition necessitates enhancement of solubility before developing into dosage forms. Melt-quenching is recently exploring technique for developing amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) for crystalline drugs to with a hydrophilic carrier to enhance solubility. ASDs have a drawback of poor thermodynamic stability which needs to be considered. The current work was aimed to develop ASDs for Ritonavir with improved solubility yet thermodynamically stable. Quality by design (QbD) was employed to elucidate the effects of the carrier, plasticizer and cooling temperature on the solubility and stability of the prepared ASDs. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (X-RD) analysis were performed to investigate the physical state of Ritonavir and the stability of the ASDs upon storage. These results illustrated the effects of the factors on the solubility and stability were significant at p< 0.05. Statistical optimization was performed to identify the best combination of the factors to obtain ASDs with maximum solubility and stability. ASDs prepared with Soluplus as carrier at 50% w/w, Poloxamer 188 as plasticizer 15% w/w at6.81oC temperature were found to have desired solubility and stability

Objective This study aimed to evaluate the utilised doses of HF medications between genders among HF patients in local setting. Methods This study was conducted as retrospective study involving data collection from medical records of patients with documented HF in Hospital Serdang, Selangor. A total of 131 patients (74 males versus 57 females) were conveniently recruited from patients undergoing follow-ups at cardiology outpatient clinic, Hospital Serdang, Selangor with matched age, different ethnics, baseline and current EF and comorbidities. Utilised doses of HF medications were categorised as percentage of recommended doses or usual daily doses, which were 0%, <50%, ≥50% and ≥100%.Results No significant difference was observed in utilised doses of HF medications between genders in study population which proved that the utilised doses of HF medications were not influenced by gender differences. However, Malay and Indian were found to utilise higher MRA doses compared to Chinese and indigenous people (P < 0.05). This study also found that baseline (r = -0.386; P < 0.001) and current (r = -0.265; P < 0.01) ejection fraction were weakly and inversely correlated with MRA utilised doses.&nbsp

The increase of obesity among Malaysians is recognized as a health concern on par with hypertension and diabetes. Early detection such as health screenings and prevention via education, can reduce morbidity and mortality. Conducting health screenings through community pharmacies may be a good choice considering the easy access to the community. This study aimed to investigate the possible factors such as demographic (age, gender, family history of obesity) and lifestyle (exercise habit, frequency of eating outside, smoking behaviour) that are associated with occurrence of obesity. This was a cross-sectional study in an area of Johor, utilising a guided data collection form. Body Mass Index (BMI) was used as the parameter for obesity status. According to Clinical Practice Guideline on Management of Obesity 2004, Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27.5 kg/m² and more is considered obese. A total of 183 respondents revealed 62 (33.9%) were obese and 121 (66.1%) were not obese. Both family history of having obesity and exercise habit were significantly associated with BMI values that could be related to risk in obesity, while age and frequency of eating outside had no significant correlation and association respectively.&nbsp

    Get PDF
A part of the supply chain that is very important to Malaysia is the port sector. A high-risk work environment is leading to a rise in occupational stress among port terminal workers. It is necessary for an organisation to correctly diagnose the aspects of the working lifestyle conditions that are perceived as risks by workers and to investigate the consequences of these risks in order for the organisation to be successful in the prevention of occupational stress problems. The aim of this conceptual paper is to investigate the factors that influence the safety practitioner's perception of safety and health risk assessment at port terminal. Data on safety and health that were collected in the past were analysed. Misunderstanding over the definition of a hazard and how to interpret a risk assessment matrix were both factors. This paper will scrutinize those factors and accomplish suggestions for how research should be done in Malaysia in the future
