A rare case study of myxoid chondrosarcoma in 4th metacarpal hand
Background: myxoid chondrosarcoma (MC) is a rare soft tissue tumor that typically affects the lower limbs of men between the ages of 50 and 60. EMC of the Metacarpals is rare of rarest with a high risk of local recurrence and distant metastasis. A planned surgical excision in sarcoma referral centers (SRCs) is mandatory to obtain the best outcome. The role of chemotherapy (CHT) and Radiotherapy (RT) on soft tissue chondrosarcoma is still under study. Case presentation: A 53-year-old male patient presented to our hospital with a history of swelling in the left hand for 6 months. Radiological and histological study reveals diagnosis of extra skeletal chondrosarcoma. Wide surgical excision was done using cryotherapy in form of liquid nitrogen. Biopsy was taken from the site and sent to immunohistochemistry which proved the diagnosis. A Kirschner wire embedded with polymethylmethacrylate cement was placed in defect site and checked for movements. imaging exams did not reveal distant metastasis or residual disease. Local radiotherapy was administered with a total dose of 50 Gy and adjuvant chemotherapy was given. No relapse occurred in a 12-months post-operative follow up. Conclusions: The case here described suggests the importance of patient’s management in SRCs
Treatment strategies for lower cross syndrome: A systematic review
Background: Lower cross syndrome is characterized by tightness of iliopsoas, rectus femoris and erector spinae along with weakness of gluteal and abdominal muscle. Exercises help to restore length of tight muscles and strengthening of weak muscles. Therefore, objective of this study is to conduct a systematic review of studies to date in order to determine the effects of implementing different exercise programs on the treatment of lower crossed syndrome. Method: A systematic online search of the literatures in English language was undertaken for articles published from 2010 to 2021. Articles were searched in Google Scholar, Pubmed, Science direct and Research Gate with key words “Back pain, Lower cross syndrome and Treatment strategies”. Methodological quality assessment was done on the basis of Level of evidence. Result: Very less number of studies is available on effectiveness of treatment strategies in subjects having Lower cross syndrome and sample size in studies are also small but in most of studies exercise program is found to be effective. Conclusion: Low quality of evidence is there on effectiveness of treatment strategies in subjects having Lower cross syndrome. Based on analysis, recommended exercise programs include, exercise for strengthening weak musculature or for stretching tight muscles
The nurse's role in delivering high-quality healthcare and the role of technology in providing better care
High recovery rates, fewer errors, and better results all around are associated with high quality of care (QOC). It is critical to comprehend the consequences for nurses' QOC given the many social and professional ramifications of how they view the nursing profession (NP). The study's objectives were to determine whether there was a correlation between nurses' QOC and their self-perceptions of nursing and whether there were any differences between men’s and women's perceptions of nursing (NI). Nurses felt more motivated and satisfied at work than patients did. Patients' evaluations of these characteristics were strongly linked with the length of their hospital stay and whether or not they were accompanied by relatives. Developing important caregiving skills may enhance the delivery of EoL care for critically ill patients & their families. Although further study is needed, emergency medicine nurses play a critical role in the administration of effective EoL care. It is known that in order to better their expertise in planning and delivering EoL care, critical care nurses need educational opportunities.
A study on aetiopathogenesis and management of rectal prolapse in tertiary care centre in Odisha, India
Introduction: Rectal prolapse refers to a circumferential, full-thickness protrusion of the rectum through the anus and also has been called complete prolapse, or procidentia. Internal prolapse occurs when the rectal wall intussuscepts but does not protrude, and is more accurately described as internal intussusception. In adults, rectal prolapse is far more common among women. The diagnosis is obvious on inspection, except in the case of concealed rectal prolapse. At present, the fixation of the rectum to the sacral hollow is considered to be the most rational operation in the surgical management of complete rectal prolapse. The present study is undertaken at S.C.B.Medical college hospital, Cuttack to evaluate the aetio-pathological factors associated with rectal prolapse and the different surgical methods available to repair them. Methods: A hospital-based Cross-sectional study was done among the patients Presenting .with Rectal Prolapse either attending Surgery Out-Patient Department or admitted to the Department through Emergency Department and giving consent for the study. Results: In the study 91.2% were complete and 8.8% were partial prolapse. The maximum age group showing thus prolapse was from 31-50 years age group, with males having more incidence of prolapse than females. Among the females, multi-porous were having increased incidence of prolapse.
A study to evaluate the effectiveness of breast self-examination on prevention of breast cancer and developing skill on breast self-examination among menopausal women at selected rural areas of Shimoga, Karnataka State
Cancer occupies world’s major health challenge today. Cancer may occur in human body for any age and sex. Formation of a tumour with the features of abnormal and uncontrollable growth and shows continuous replication of cells leads to cancer. Breast cancer is considered the very common cancer in women. Breast self-examination is easiest and cost-free method for early detection of Breast cancer. WHO estimated that in 2018, 627000 women died with breast cancer in worldwide. Since 1990- 2010 there was a steadfast growth of breast cancer cases in worldwide. Premenopausal and menopausal age is the common age group women diagnosed with breast cancer. Thus, it is considered getting awareness about breast self-examination before attaining menopause helps to reduce the number of deaths due to breast cancer. This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of breast self-examination in the prevention of Breast self-examination. 50 women between the ages 40 to 50 were selected for data collection. To assess the skill level of women the investigator prepared an observation checklist. To assess the knowledge about prevention of breast cancer and breast self-examination the investigator used a structured questionnaire.
English language acquisition through online mode of teaching during COVID-19 pandemic in India
Education and learning hitherto has undergone huge changes from the kind of teaching provided to Gen Y . One major differentiator is the rise of technology and the spread of internet. It has moved ahead from the ‘analog’ methods to the ‘digital’ methods. The unprecedented Covid-19 crisis which swept across the globes causing loss of human lives and forced people to stay indoors accelerated the process of seeking education through online modes. Thus, learning a language in such an advanced ecosystem is one of the most crucial components in terms of education. In developing countries such as India where English (used as a second language) is learnt not merely to communicate but as a tool for empowerment, the methods used to acquire the language needs to be assessed , helping the quality of language learning especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The observations are based on various data collected using surveys etc during the lockdown imposed due to the COVID 19 pandemic in India.
Bipolar dissociation of personality in Cruella
Human psyche is a source of wonder and mystery, and its exploration is a major concern of eminent thinkers from time immemorial. Cruella (2021), which tells the reimagined version of Cruella De Vil, a fictional villain in the book and film, 101 Dalmatians, is directed by Craig Gillespie. Cruella’s emotional volatility and eccentric nature are deviant to the point of evil. Current study explores how the mental state of the central character is portrayed in the film. With the rebellious soundtracks of ‘60s and ‘70s, the character can be seen relishing social attention through the alternate persona. The study also focuses how mental illnesses are portrayed in the film even as they cannot be pinpointed of its causes in reality is sought through the paper. Even with the constantly evolving, course-correcting and adapting research, television sets the reality for the nature of psychological illness. Disney, on the other hand, defies all of that. The real-world implications of the false knowledge on conditions like schizophrenia or depression are critical. Knowledge of pro social factors can help individual turn more pro social and the lack of the same can lead to downfall – of both the person and society.
Evaluation of Osteoprotegerin (OPG) levels among Iraqi type2 diabetic patients
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an increasingly prevalent multifactorial disease that has both genetic and environmental risk factors, resulting in impaired glucose homeostasis.Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is a secretory glycoprotein that belongs to the Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) receptor family and involves in the regulation of bone metabolism, ectopic calcification including vascular calcification processes, and endothelium regeneration. The gene encoding OPG is affected by common, functionally important genetic polymorphisms. Serum osteoprotegerin levels were higher in type 2 diabetic subjects than in nondiabetic subjects. OPG may be a potential biomarker in type2 diabetes mellitus OPG concentrations in sera were measured by "enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)" technique using Human-Osteoprotegerin(Bioassay Technology Laboratory). The results of the present study demonstrate that highly significant differences, the OPG levels in the diabetic patients were higher than that of controls (2.7321±0.57), controls (1.5656±0.20104), P= 0.015 . It is noteworthy that the OPG levels in the current study were higher in females than in males when comparing males patients with females patients 3.2467±1.09578 versus2.1874± 0.28760 with non-significant difference P=0.263.We conclude that there may be a correlation between high levels of "OPG and T2DM
