Acne is a skin disorder characterized by clogged hair follicles and chronic inflammation of the pilosebaceous follicles. A total of one hundred and   five acne swabs were collected from patients with acne vulgaris infection at Baghdad's hospitals. For primary identification, 54 (45%) samples had a positive S. aureus culture on Mannitol salt agar (MSA) for 24 hours at 37°C. In addition, four pre-isolated also identified S. marcescens (pigment producers) which were identified by vitek-2 technique were taken for prodigiosin extraction, mineral salt broth with peptone (0.5 percent) was utilized, followed by pigment extraction, partial purification, also pigment measurement by spectrophotometer. Furthermore, using a microtiter plate assay, the bacterial ability to form biofilms was assessed for 20 S. aureus isolates (multidrug resistant isolates). The results revealed that only 8 strong isolates were biofilm producers, while 5 in addition 7 isolates were moderate also weak biofilm producers. The minimal inhibitory concentration of tetracycline also prodigiosin generated by isolated S. marcescens were determined using the broth microdilution technique for S. aureus isolates (S7 also    S8). From overnight cultures of S. aureus (S7 also    S8), DNA was effectively extracted.&nbsp

The efficacy of law: Indonesian experience in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic

    Get PDF
This article aims to clarify that there are several elements critical for ensuring the efficacy of law. The view of efficacy that emphasizes the objective and comply with the law is narrow and inadequate. New insights and understanding are required to strengthen the realization of the concept of the efficacy of law. The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia forms a background to understand the efficacy of law. The study uses a socio-legal approach based on Indonesian experience in preventing the spread of COVID-19 through law reform. The government enacted at least 188 new regulations regarding the public health system, restrictions on activities in public spaces, and national economic recovery to manage the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first wave of the viral infection showed that the existing regulations failed to meet their objectives. The regulations that prohibited social activities led to economic disincentives within the society. In addition, these workers could not access the social security program. The regulations restricted their work activities and, in turn, affected their compliance with the law and its enforcement power. New ways are needed to solve problems that constitute unexpected impacts of the COVID-19 prevention regulations

The purpose of this study was to conduct a survey of the fungal species associated with COVID-19 viral infection in 150 patients who were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) in Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital in Al-Diwaniyah City, Iraq, for a period of five months beginning in October 2021 and ending in February 2022. The survey was to be conducted over the course of the period from October 2021 to February 2022. According to the findings, yeasts were more prevalent than any of the other detected fungal species, accounting for 98 of the total isolates (65.33 percent). While filamentous fungus accounted for 19 isolates (12.33 percent), including the predominance of Aspergillus flavus with 6 isolates (40 percent) in comparison to the Aspergillus spp. ratio, these fungi were found to be rather uncommon. In light of the fact that this publication provided evidence of the isolation of Aspergillus sydowii from COVID19 patients for the first time anywhere in the world: In addition, we drew attention to the outstanding activity of the antifungal medications amphotericin B, itraconazole, and voriconazole, all of which have a high susceptibility rate

    Get PDF
Introduction: Postpartum Depression (PPD) refers to non-psychotic depressive episodes that begin in or extend into the postpartum period. According to The American Psychiatric Association (APA) postpartum depression is defined as the occurrence of a Major Depressive Episode (MDE) within 4 weeks after delivery. Objectives of our study: To find out the prevalence of PPD among women aged 20-40 years in our population. Methodology: Data were collected using a valid Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). The internal reliability of the scale was 0.84 (Cronbach's alpha). The EPDS has 10 questions, and the scoring is as the following: a score less than eight points shows that depression is unlikely, a score of nine to 11 considered depression possible, a 12-13 score interprets fairly high possibility of depression, +13 scores and higher show positive results, and the cutoff point is 13+.Results: We included a total of 310 women based on the inclusion criteria and diagnostic criteria of PPD, in the age group of 20-40 years. The mean age was found to be 28.5±4.5 years. We used Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale for the diagnosis of PPD.&nbsp

    Get PDF
Background: Patients with Diabetes Mellitus are more prone to Urinary tract infection (UTI) than non-diabetic patients. Diabetes Mellitus has certain negative effects on the genital system and increases the incidence of urinary tract infection in diabetic patients. Design: Record based retrospective study. Methods:  Records of patients with type-II diabetes having symptoms of UTI were reviewed from August 2021 to January 2022.  Result: Out of 210 diabetic patients, the UTI rate was higher in females 59% than male 41%. The most common agents for causing UTI were E.coli followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella spp., Candida albicans and Candida non-albicans, Enterococcus, S.aureus and other organisms. About 70.68% Gram-negative isolates were resistant against ampicillin, 75.17% resistant against gentamycin, and 48.16% resistant against amoxicillin-clavulanic acid. Gram-positive isolates were 83.33% resistant against penicillin and 83.33% resistant against ciprofloxacin. However, both gram-negative and gram-positive were susceptible to nitrofurantoin. The overall multidrug resistance was observed in 201 out of 210 (95.71%) bacterial and candiduria isolates, while 3.33% of the isolates were resistant to one only antibiotic. Conclusion: Most common etiological agent is E.coli with high drug resistance to ampicillin and susceptible to nitrofurantoin. Therefore, performing urine culture and regular monitoring of UTI is essential
