    Get PDF
Through this research, polymeric composites were prepared from epoxy as a base material with isobutyl rubber (waste rubber washers  powder for water taps) and this was done by adding different weight percentages of isobutyl rubber. This was done by adding different weight percentages of isobutyl rubber. After a series of experiments, it was found that the best weight percentage was (5%).This addition was done at different temperatures (8,25,55) °C. The results when compared before and after the reinforcement process for the composites showed that the thermal conductivity decreased after the reinforcement process, as for the resistance to hardness and compressibility, it increased after reinforcement, but it was less valuable for the hardness and compressibility at the temperature (55) °C compared to the results at (8) °C. As for the shock resistance, its value increased after reinforcement, and the increase was greater at the temperature (55) °C  compared to its value at (8) °C

Public health and international patent protection: A never ending conflict

    Get PDF
After the coming into force of TRIPS Agreement much importance has been given to the concept of public health. Doha Declaration on Public Health provides a legal basis for interpreting the TRIPS Agreement as consistent with public health objectives and for using the flexibility of the agreement for this purpose. However, these efforts could not resolve the apparent conflict between public health and patent protection. The right to health is a basic human right of every person and includes the right to access the essential drugs. However, right to public health cannot be ensured when there is no certainty as to the legal status of the Doha Declaration. Issues, such as, how much weightage will be given to the Declaration when the WTO Panel or the Appellate Body is adjudging a dispute which affects public health, are bound to arise

    Get PDF
Bio based polymers are reinforced with natural fibers as a good candidate to the replacement of synthetic materials. In this work biobased polyurethane cellulose nanocomposites (PUCNs)  prepared from hydroxylated olive oil and diphenyl methane - 4, 4 - diisocyanate,in the presence of dibutyl tin dilaurate as catalyst and incorporated with varying concentration of cellulose nanocrystals. The polyurethane cellulose nanocomposites films have been characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM and TGA/DTA studies. The compatibility of the nanocomposites is evaluated by invitro hemolytic assay method. The FTIR analysis indicates the presence of the cellulose nanocrystals in the polyurethane matrix. The formation of urethane linkage is confirmed by the stretching vibrations of the peak  around 3330 cm-1. XRD diffraction pattern of the samples shows a increase of 2% crystallinity by the addition of cellulose nanoparticles. The average size of cellulose nanocrystals is calculated as 16nm. SEM images shows a rod like structure of cellulose nanocrystals and the fine dispersion of cellulose nanocrystals in the polymer matrix. The degradation of PUCNs is more pronounced in different chemical environments than polyurethane. Thermogravimetric analysis observed that the addition of cellulose nanocrystals increases the thermal stability of PUCNs upto 300oC.&nbsp
