    Get PDF
Context: Using Visible Light to bond orthodontic attachments is now an accepted norm, the progression being  Halogens, Low and High Intensity Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). Since, clinical use of bonded brackets is pragmatically linked with Shear Bond Strength (SBS) and chair-side time, adhesives with shorter curing time are a boon. Hence, the aforementioned facets bear a more detailed study. Settings and Design: 6 Groups (2 Halogens, 2 Low Intensity LEDs and 2 High Intensity LEDs); Each Group comprised of 10 assemblies of Metal Brackets (3M Unitek, Gemini Series) bonded to facial surface of extracted human Maxillary 1st bicuspids. Methods and Material: Brackets were directly bonded using Standard Bonding Protocol to freshly extracted Human Maxillary Premolars. Shear Bond Strength (SBS) testing was done using Universal Testing Machine, Instron. The SBS values attained in Kg/F were converted into MPa and results subjected to a comparative evaluation. Results: Mean SBS values, in MPa, for Halogen Light Cure Systems were 8.51 and 8.86; for Low Intensity LEDs were 10.50 and 10.33 while for High Intensity LEDs 15.54 and 13.85.&nbsp

Main outcomes: Shoulder pain and function were assessed by shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI). ROM of shoulder flexion, abduction, and internal rotation were assessed by standard goniometer. Scapular protraction was assessed by digital caliper and scapular upward rotation was assessed by bubble inclinometer. All outcomes were assessed in both groups 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months postoperative. Results: A significant increase in flexion, abduction and internal rotation ROM at 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months was observed between groups in favor of Group A.&nbsp

Predictive clinical factors for penetration-aspiration in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma after radiotherapy

    Get PDF
Penetration-aspiration is the most serious complication in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after radiotherapy. Radiotherapy has been shown to increase the patient's survival rate and life expectancy but it showed serious side effects such as oropharyngeal dysphagia. It’s related morbidity and mortality such as penetration-aspiration could progress to aspiration pneumonia, sepsis, and death if not treated properly. Factors suspected to be the determinants of penetration-aspiration were the location of the pharyngeal residue, the stage of NPC, and the time after radiotherapy. This primary objective of this study was to determine the clinical factors of penetration-aspiration in patients with NPC after radiotherapy. In a cross sectional, observational analytic study, a total of 24 patients were obtained with consecutive sampling technique. Fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) examination was performed on patients with NPC after radiotherapy to assess pharyngeal residue and penetration-aspiration. The Yale Pharyngeal Residue Severity Rating Scale (YPR-SRS) and the Penetration-Aspiration Scale (PAS) was used to assess the presence of pharyngeal residue and penetration-aspiration, respectively. Statistical analysis used multiple logistic regression (p<0,05) and Wald statistics to find a stronger relationship between variables.&nbsp

The education process in general is one of the most important educational processes that need proper scientific planning in order to reach its goals. Learning depends on the effectiveness of the teaching methods used in teaching motor skills for various sports and games. It was also noted that the traditional method, which makes the student a recipient and puts all the decisions of the lesson by the teacher, which is the most used method in teaching motor skills for various sports and games, and there is a clear omission of modern teaching methods in teaching physical education that focus on the role of the learner and his effective participation in the educational process. Where the research deals with the study of the use of the strategy (S.N.I.P.S) in the two teaching methods (reciprocal, training) in the performance of some artistic gymnastics skills for female students.

Evaluation of marginal bone loss in implant supported over-dentures: An original research

    Get PDF
Aim: The purpose of the present research was to assess the marginal bone loss due to stresses encountered in implant supported over-dentures. Methodology: Tridimensional models were built from the images of a computerized tomography of a mandible and 3D laser digitalization of implants, abutments, mucosa, and complete denture. The geometric models of implants and abutments were mounted at the canine region to build reference model 1 - absence of bone resorption. To build the test models the mandible geometric solid was modified to simulate 2-mm vertical bone loss surrounding the implants (model 2) and resorption of the distal ridge (model 3). Finite elements models were generated, and a 100 N static load was applied at the first molar region of each model to compare the von Mises stress distributions in selected points. Results: Von Mises stresses increased on the bone surrounding implants and on the prosthetic components in the model with 2-mm vertical bone loss. The combination of 2-mm vertical bone loss and resorption of the distal ridge did not increase the stresses compared with the model with only bone loss surrounding implants.&nbsp
