Design and implementation of transfer learned deep CNN with feature fusion for automated mammogram classification

    Get PDF
Radiologists frequently struggle to define mammography mass lesions, resulting in unneeded breast biopsies to eliminate suspicions, which adds exorbitant costs to an already overburdened patient and medical system..Existing models have limited capability for feature extraction and representation, as well as cancer classification. Therefore, we built deep Convolution neural networks based Computer-aided Diagnosis system to assist radiologists in classifying mammography mass lesions. Here, Two-view LASSO regression feature fusion and fine-tuned transfer learning network model VGG16 were applied for identification of mammogram cancer.  First, two independent CNN branches are utilized to extract mammography characteristics from two different perspectives. Feature Extraction is performed by fine-tuning pre-trained deep network models VGG16 which extracts deep convolutional features. Second, the features of the VGG16 models are serially fused using LASSO regression. Lastly, the fused features are entered into the Fully Connected Layer for mammogram classification. The high accuracy of 95.24, senstitivity of 96.11% and AUC score of 97.95% of the proposed approach revealed that it should be used to enhance clinical decision-making

The process of emergency nurses' encounter with potential legal issues: A grounded theory study

    Get PDF
Aims: Considering the continuous rise in legal complaints against nurses, especially emergency nurses, they consider their work environment to be a threatening place, negatively affecting their professional care performance. This study aimed to explain the process of confrontation of emergency department nurses with potential legal issues.  Methods: In this qualitative study data were collected from six observations and in-depth semi-structured interviews with 15 nurses and one emergency physician in the emergency departments. The participants were initially selected by purposeful sampling, followed by theoretical sampling. Data were finally analyzed based on Corbin and Strauss grounded theory approach (2008). Results: The core variable in this study was “perceived fear of litigation risk” and consisted of four categories: “avoidance of involvement in legal issues”, “cautious performance”, “double-checking”, and “acquitting oneself”. Emergency nurses face these issues after assessing the likelihood of legal problems, based on the severity of their perceived fears. This assessment is an ongoing and dynamic process, and increasing the likelihood of a legal issue occurring and thus increasing fear can lead to a change in the approach used or the simultaneous (cumulative) use of several approaches. &nbsp

    Get PDF
Because  the S. aureus is not only associated with severe community and hospital acquired diseases, but it is also a leading cause of food-poisoning outbreaks, the focus of this research is to identify biotypes, virulence genes, and antimicrobial resistance patterns for S. aureus  isolated from food . The current study was carried out from September to December 2021 , in which 20  S. aureus isolated from 150 food samples . A total of food samples were collected from a range of sources, including (milk, meat, cheese and celery). Only 20 (13.4%) of the 150 food samples screened positive for S. aureus, with 8 isolates from meat samples, 3 isolates from milk, 4 isolates from celery, and 5 isolates from Iraqi white cheese.  Other staphylococcus species (gallinarum, xylosus, sciuri, and lentus) as well as other genera were obtained. All isolates were diagnosed using traditional biochemical assays and the Vitek method. Antimicrobial susceptibility was tested using the Kirby- Bauer method. All 20 food-borne S. aureus isolates were completely sensitive to the majority of antibiotics, which was demonstrated (100%). In food S. aureus isolates, only Cefotaxime (100%) was totally resistant, followed by Ceftazidime (60%) and Cefepime (40%)

Background: Fractures of the lower end of the femur are very tough to cure and linked to various consequences. Because of the high frequency of infection, non-union, and malunion, poor fixation, and a scarcity of appropriate equipment, implants, and antibiotics in the early 1960s, operational care of these fractures was avoided to a significant extent. Objective: The present study was undertaken to analyze the outcomes of fractures situated at the lower end of the femur, which is managed with CRIF. Materials and methods: A total of 20 patients were part of the study after obtaining the voluntary, written, informed consent. After collecting the basic demographic data, the clinical data were collected from all the participants. All participants underwent, a general clinical examination followed by a systemic examination. X-ray knee joint with distal femur AP and lateral views, CBC, FBG, LFT, RFT, and ECG were performed on all the participants. Results: Table 1 presents the gender distribution of the participants. The majority of the participants were males. Table 2 presents the age-wise distribution of the participants. The majority of the participants belonged to the age group of 21-30 years of age. Table 3 presents the type of injury of the patients

    Get PDF
The current research aims to identify the strategic awareness of kindergarten principals, and the basic research sample consisted of (384) principals and assistants, who were selected in a simple random way from the directorates of Baghdad Education (Rusafa first, Rusafa second, third Rusafa, first Karkh, second Karkh, Karkh Third) for the academic year (2021/2022). To achieve the objectives of the research, the researcher adopted the strategic awareness scale "Colly and her colleagues, 2021", then analyzed the paragraphs of the scale logically and statistically to calculate their discriminatory ability and their validity coefficients. By re-testing and Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and the reliability coefficient reached (0.93, 0.90) respectively, so that the scale is in its final form of (24) items, and in front of each paragraph there are five alternatives: (I always agree, I agree sometimes, I don’t agree, I sometimes don’t agree, I don’t always agree). Based on the sample responses, the following conclusions were reached: -  The kindergarten principals have a high strategic awareness, as the results came with an arithmetic mean higher than the hypothetical average of the scale

Upper limb physical therapy interventions to improve functions in cerebral palsy children: A review article

    Get PDF
Introduction: upper limb function is considered challenging barrier for children with cerebral palsy hindering their activity levels and participation in play activities at home, school or other contexts. The aim of this critical review is to gain a deeper understanding of how the different physical therapy interventions could be beneficial in terms of functional outcomes either when used separately or combined with each other’s and provide summary of dosing reported for each. Method: A literature search was conducted using electronic databases for health research; Embase, Cochrane, Pedro, Science Direct and Clinical Key. 16 papers where selected meeting the aim of the review and the criteria of work (randomized control trials. systematic reviews, meta-analysis) and critically reviewed. Findings: recommended dosing in literature was: for CIMT dosing 60 hours over 10 days and 6 hours per day for 15 days, for HABIT 6 hours per day for 15 days and 6 hours per day for 3 weeks, for Strength Training is 6-10 per set, and the intensity (load) is increased to 85% 1RM. While, goal directed training dosing to be effective should exceed 30-40 hours per week and Virtual reality to be more than 1080 minutes over 4 weeks

Caring for a family member diagnosed with schizophrenia will not only impart a lifetime emotional distress but also social and financial challenge. Failure to anticipate and cope with the burden of care responsibilities will add an unnecessary risk to permanent injury resulting in a substandard management of the patient and even death. We describe a case of successful removal of nine (9) constricting rings from the finger of both hands in a poorly taken care of an abusive relapse schizophrenia patient using an oscillating saw and ring cutter under prosedural sedation combined with wrist block in emergency department (ED). Early recognition and a definitive treatment are of paramount importance in order to avoid irreversible ischemia and gangrene. The possible risk of negligence should be kept in mind bearing a link with depression among members caring for schizophrenia
