Evaluating antimicrobial efficacy of bovine colostrum in patients suffering from periodontal disease: An invitro study

    Get PDF
Purpose: Bovine Colostrum is the first milk, a mammary secretion produced by all cows for their babies during the first 24–48 hours after birth. Bovine Colostrum contains immunoglobulins and lactoferrin that help in bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects against microorganisms. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of bovine colostrum at different concentrations in patients suffering from chronic periodontitis. Methodology: Plaque and calculus samples were obtained from 15 patients aging from 30 - 60 years. The collected samples were then poured on agar plates and different strains of Gram -ve bacteria were obtained. The streak plate method was adopted. For the anti-microbial susceptibility test, a solution of Bovine Colostrum Powder was prepared in Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) at various concentrations (50 µg/ml, 100 µg/ml, and 200 µg/ml). Result: A minimal zone of inhibition was seen at 50 µg/ml with a mean of 3.8. Proper inhibition zones were seen in 100 µg/ml and 200 µg/ml with means of 9.9 and 12.7 respectively. One-way ANOVA showed a statistically significant difference in the values between the groups (p<0.01). Tukey HSD Post Hoc Test showed a statistically significant difference in the values between all the pairs of groups (p<0.01).&nbsp

This study provides a brief review of approaches fordetection of fungi that cause pulmonary infection in cats. The 40 samples was taken randomlyfromlocal Iraqi cats in Baghdad provinceto detection of fungal infection that cause respiratory disease in cats, especially Cryptococcus neoformans that considered one of the most important pathogens cause respiratory symptoms in cats, the studied and isolated during the period of October 2021 to march 2022. Samples were taken from infected cats in veterinary clinic in Baghdad province; all samples were cultured on Saboroud Dextrose Agar, Bird Seed Agar and Cryptococcus Differential Agar for Cryptococcus spp. isolation and identification. The results showed that 40 swaps taken from the pharynx of infected cats, included: Cryptococcus neoformans 12 (30.0%), Aspergillus fumigatus 2 (5.0%), Penicillium spp. 6 (15.0%), Aspergillus niger 3 (7.5%), Dimatiaceous spp. 1 (2.5%), Fusarium spp. 1 (2.5%), Rhizopus spp. 2 (5.0%), Candida spp. 3 (7.5%), Aspergillus spp. 10 (25.0%)and the presence of infection in female (60%) more than male (40%). These findings indicate that there may be a risk for animal exposure to pulmonary fungal disease due to inhalation of fungal spores, contaminated environment, hormonal disturbance in female, viral infection that cause of immune deficiency

Measuring of similarity between verb pairs in the biomedical domain: An ontology-based information content perspective

    Get PDF
Finding the similarity Ontology-based between two verbs in bio-medical ontology is a difficult task as there is no standard dataset available. This paper is focused on verb-based similarity. So, the similarity between two nouns is taken as the benchmark for working on the verb similarity. There is no exact idea that the verb hierarchy of wordnet is capable to calculate the verb similarity between two verbs. The finding of similarity considers three parameters such as path, link, and depth. But in this paper, in addition to the path, link, and depth parameters, we also considered parameters such as stem-similarity weighting, derivation nouns weighting, and gloss similarity weighting. Moreover, we implemented two algorithms namely Rich Hierarchy Exploration and Shallow Hierarchy Exploration on a dataset and found that there is no significant difference in its performance

Estimation of concise video summaries from long sequence videos using deep learning via LSTM

    Get PDF
Video summarization is a field of signal processing which deals with removing redundant information from a sequence of frames. In order to design an efficient video summarization model, it is imperative that frame features must be analyzed, and their similarity must be evaluated. This process would assist in aggregation of frames that have similar feature sets, and then use this information to reduce frame redundancy. Design of an efficient feature extraction and analysis model must be done in order to improve efficiency of video summarization. Models that aim at improving this efficiency, tend to improve the computational complexity of summarization, thereby limiting their applicability. In order to remove this drawback, The proposed event-based model for long video summarization uses a combination of LSTM based CNN with feature variance method for estimation of keyframes. The model works is 2-phases, wherein in the first phase various events are recognized from the video using LSTM based CNN model; while in the second phase these events are individually summarized using variance-based threshold engine. The proposed event classification-based LSTM CNN model with variance-based summarization outperforms other models, and achieves 8% improvement in terms of compression ratio

Clinical study of recurrence rate following limbal- conjunctival autograft as a surgical treatment of pterygium

    Get PDF
Background: Objective: To study the rate of recurrence following limbal- conjunctival autograft after a follow up period of 6-12 months. Methods: The source of data in this study is from the outpatient and inpatient department of ophthalmology, Chigateri general hospital and Bapuji hospital attached to J.J.M medical college, Davanagere during the period of September 2001 - March 2004. Results: A recurrence rate of 7.5% (3 eyes) was observed during a follow up period of 6-12 months .Of 3 eyes, one was recurrent pterygium and the other two primary pterygium. The 3 patients were aged 32,31 and 55 years and recurrence was observed at 1 month,2 months and 2 and a half months respectively. Conclusion: Pterygium excision with limbal conjunctival autograft is an excellent procedure for pterygium management. The technique is safe and inexpensive and is recommended for the management of both primary and recurrent pterygia in Indian eyes

Improvised DBSC and transductive SVM for hybrid recommendation systems

Recommendation Systems play a crucial role in improving the business strategies and providing the customers or users with the choice to opt for a product or service. Given the growth and power of information analytics tools and inclination of data mining techniques, a wide range of recommender systems particularly for the web based users have been evolved over the decade. The conventional “One model – Fit for all” model fails in most of the cases due to the common fact that not all users have same interests and have paved way for tailor made recommender systems. It is hence highly important to provide a personalized framework which can accumulate specific interests of the users. Web data are normally highly sparse in nature and formulating a personalized user profile was a difficult task. The previous methods used user based CF method to address the former issue while Extended Jaccard Similarity (EJS) was introduced to address the latter. Although these methods found to be effective, there were scopes for improvement in the Query processing time and accuracy. To solve this problem the proposed system design an Enhanced DBSCAN and TSVM based hybrid recommendation scheme.&nbsp

This study included isolating the accompanying and contaminated fungi of Corn Grains in the city of Al- Diwaniyah collected for the period September-December / 2021. A number of fungi were identified: of it Aternaria arborscens., It was observed that the percentage of surface fungi associated with non-sterile Corn Grains samples was high. Fungal toxins were detected in the fungal leachates of one of these fungus A. arborescenswas diagnosed with phenotype and genetically using PCR technology. So this species we have provided GenBank accession number(s) for it nucleotide sequence(s): ON386194 and ON386195 was recorded in Iraq in this study. The analysis was performed using HPLC technology showed results on the ability of A. arborescens to produce toxins. The highest concentration was the altratoxin which was 247.9 μg / ml. In the study Agaricus bisporus was used to conduct the biological resistance of pathogenic fungi to reduce the number and its toxicity of fungi A.  arborescens. It is gave high resistance to A. arborescens when testing the contrast between them. The results of the study showed their ability to prevent the growth of pathogenic fungi in solid and liquid media
