Implementation of Audio-Visual Assisted Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Model to Improve Critical Thinking Skills
This study aims to improve the Critical Thinking Skills of Grade IV Students of SDN 2 Talise through Classroom Action Research (CAR). CAR is a research method deliberately conducted in classroom settings to enhance learning quality. The research follows Kemmis and McTaggart's model, comprising four stages: Planning, Action, Observation, and Reflection. Conducted at SDN 2 Talise during the 2024/2025 academic year, this study involved 17 grade IV students as research subjects. Data collection employed both non-test and test techniques. Non-test methods included interviews, observations, and documentation, while test data was gathered through essay assessments evaluating students' critical thinking skills in social studies material. The study implemented Problem-Based Learning (PBL) assisted by audio-visual media. Results demonstrated progressive improvement across cycles. In Pre-Action, classical learning completion achieved 25%. Cycle I showed improvement to 30.76%, representing a 5.76% increase. Most significantly, Cycle II demonstrated substantial progress with 89.41% classical learning completion, indicating a remarkable 58.65% improvement from Cycle I. These findings reveal that PBL implementation with audio-visual support effectively enhances students' critical thinking abilities. The dramatic improvement from 25% to 89.41% completion rates across the research cycles demonstrates the model's effectiveness. The progressive enhancement pattern confirms that structured problem-based approaches, when properly implemented with multimedia support, can significantly develop elementary students' critical thinking skills in social studies education. Therefore, the Problem-Based Learning model proves successful in improving Grade IV students' critical thinking skills at SDN 2 Talise
The Taking and Use of Dowry by the Bride's Parents: A Sociological and Islamic Legal Perspective
One form of Islamic respect for women is the provision of a dowry, which is the wife's full property. Essentially, the dowry is an absolute right of the wife. However, in Padurungan Tanah Merah Village, Bangkalan, a predominantly Muslim village, a tradition still exists where the bride's parents take the gift in the form of money and may not use it for the wife. This prompted researchers to examine this issue in more depth using a juridical-empirical approach and qualitative methods using interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study revealed three patterns of dowry use by parents: it is considered the full right of the parents, it is distributed to unmarried relatives, or it is used to cover wedding expenses. Sociologically, this practice is motivated by the belief that it is taboo for the bride to use the dowry, although this tradition has no basis and tends to be superstitious (tathoyur). Under Islamic law, this act constitutes the taking of another person's property, which requires the wife's consent (thibi nafsi)
The Role of the School Community in Encouraging Student Multiculturalism Through Islamic Religious Education
This research aims to determine the role of the school community in fostering students' multicultural awareness through Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at SD Negeri No. 101953 Pantai Cermin, Serdang Bedagai Regency. The research approach used in this study is qualitative research with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the school principal, teachers, students, and parents. The data were then analyzed using the steps of data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The qualitative data analysis technique was applied with the aid of NVivo software. The results of this study show that the school community plays an active role in creating an inclusive and harmonious learning environment. This is reflected in the integration of multicultural values into both intracurricular and extracurricular activities, as well as the habituation of tolerance and appreciation for differences. This is achieved through their educative role, exemplary role, collaborative role, and facilitator role. The Islamic Religious Education teacher is the primary agent for internalizin
Evangelism In Muslim And Christian Contexts: A Comparative Study Of Mission Strategies
The idea of mission is not an exclusive concept and practice of a particular faith. Rather, it is a recognized practice among adherents of various religions, the Muslim and the Christian communities inclusive. The word “evangelism” from the Greek origin evangelion meaning ‘to bring good news’, which has its similitude to “At-Tabsh?r” in the Arabic language. Evangelism is a child of necessity born out of the desire to execute God’s given mandate to the believers. The thrust of this paper is to critically examine evangelism in the Muslim and Christian contexts, with emphasis on the areas of convergence and divergence of mission strategies. The study employed historical, descriptive, and participatory observation methods for data collection. These availed the work the opportunity to trace related historical facts and describe issues as examined, while data were analyzed using a peer-reviewed submission of the authors. It was observed that the use of force in evangelism is unethical, inhumane, and irreligious. Therefore, the study recommended that adherents of both religions (Islam and Christianity) should embrace their similarities in mission and shun religious particularity and exclusivity
Implementation of Character Education Based on Islamic Values at Madrasah Tsanawiyah
This study aims to describe the implementation of character education based on Islamic values at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al-Makrif Kereak using a qualitative approach that emphasizes data obtained from interviews and observations. The focus of this research includes the strategies employed by teachers to instill Islamic values, the roles of the principal and educational staff, and the identification of Islamic values integrated into character education. The findings reveal that religious studies teachers apply contextual learning strategies and group discussions to instill Islamic values in students' daily lives. This approach not only enhances students' cognitive understanding but also fosters deep emotional and social engagement. The principal and educational staff play a crucial role in supporting the implementation through teacher training, integration of Islamic values across various subjects, and the organization of extracurricular activities grounded in Islamic principles. Key values integrated include honesty, responsibility, discipline, and compassion. These values are applied through learning processes, religious practices, and social interactions among students, and have shown a positive impact on students’ attitudes and characte
The Role Of Aqidah In Building Muslim Character In The Digital Era: A Theological And Psychological Perspective
This article explores the role of aqidah in shaping Muslim character in the digital era through the perspectives of theology and psychology. The study is motivated by a moral crisis amidst rapid technological advancements. Through a literature-based approach, the study highlights aqidah as the foundation of Islamic beliefs that shape behavior that is aligned with the values of the Qur'an and Sunnah, both in relationships with Allah and with fellow humans. Aqidah reinforces values such as honesty, responsibility, and justice, including in the digital space, fraught with challenges like misinformation and hate speech. The study emphasizes the importance of integrating aqidah education with psychology, such as behaviorism theory, through three stages: understanding, loving, and practicing good values. Instilling aqidah from an early age is deemed critical for character development. This article offers an interdisciplinary solution to the moral challenges younger generations face, demonstrating that strong aqidah equips individuals to manage digital behavior, adhere to Islamic values, and become dignified, ethical, and responsible individuals. The study provides practical and theoretical contributions to Islamic character education relevant to the modern era
Self-Efficacy of Workshop Class Students in Learning the Qur'an Ummi Method
This qualitative descriptive study examines the self-efficacy of underachieving students in workshop classes learning the Quran through the Ummi method at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al Washoya Kertorejo Ngoro Jombang. Nine workshop class students who failed to achieve the munaqosyah targets within one year were selected as subjects. Data collection employed in-depth interviews, direct classroom observations, documentation analysis, and Likert scale questionnaires. Self-efficacy was analyzed through five indicators: choice behavior, effort expenditure, persistence, thought patterns, and emotional reactions, derived from Bandura's cognitive, motivational, affective, and selection processes. Results indicate that workshop class students demonstrate low self-efficacy levels across most indicators. Choice behavior reveals poor time management with a preference for non-productive activities. Effort expenditure and persistence show high dependence on extrinsic motivation from teachers rather than intrinsic drive. However, thought patterns exhibit positive tendencies, with students expressing aspirations to practice and teach Quranic knowledge. Emotional reactions predominantly reflect boredom and lack of enthusiasm due to repetitive materials and frequent instructor changes. The Ummi method implementation through the halaqah system with seven systematic stages proves effective in creating conducive learning environments. However, improving self-efficacy requires additional interventions, including intensive mentoring, instructor stability, and supportive learning environments. These findings reinforce Bandura's reciprocal determinism theory and contribute to understanding self-efficacy dynamics in religious education context
Asset-Based Community Development in Vocational Schools Through Appreciative Inquiry (AI) and the BAGJA Model
This study examines the implementation of asset-based community development at SMK 2 LPPM RI Majalaya using qualitative methods through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal a significant gap between the availability of assets, including physical assets (workshops, laboratories), movable assets, and human assets (educators and students), and their collective mobilisation, attributed to the absence of a collaborative framework or "social contract" institutionalised within the school environment. To address this, the study integrated modern community development models such as Appreciative Inquiry and the BAGJA framework with local wisdom through the educational philosophy "Ing Ngarso Sung Tulodo, Ing Madyo Mangun Karsa, Tut Wuri Handayani," resulting in culturally relevant and acceptable adaptations for the local community. The limitations of this study lie in its focus on a single case study and the use of qualitative methods alone, making it difficult to generalise the findings broadly. Therefore, further research with a more diverse scope and a mixed-methods approach is recommended to provide a more effective policy foundation for asset-based community development in vocational high school
Contextual Hermeneutics of Beauty Privilege in Hadith through Gadamer’s Lens
This article aims to interpret the hadith, “Allah swt. does not look at your appearance or your wealth, but rather at your heart and your deeds,” through Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutic approach. This approach emphasizes the importance of dialogue between the historical context of the hadith (the horizon of the text) and the social reality of modern readers (the horizon of the reader) as a dynamic process of understanding. This study employs a qualitative library-based method with a descriptive-hermeneutic analysis technique. The hadith is examined within its historical and social context, then brought into dialogue with the contemporary phenomenon of beauty privilege in the digital era. The results show that the message of the hadith remains relevant in critiquing the visual and materialistic culture that values individuals based on physical appearance and economic status. The deeper meaning of the hadith affirms that human worth is determined by sincerity of heart and righteous deeds, not by appearance or wealth. Gadamer’s hermeneutical approach enables this hadith to remain alive, relevant, and transformative within modern socio-religious discourse
Islamic Religious Education in the Digital Era: A Critical Analysis of Social Media Framing of Millennial Preaching
The digital era has significantly transformed the face of Islamic da’wah, particularly in its interaction with Millennials and Gen Z in Indonesia. Social media has become a new arena for spreading religious messages, packaged in a visual, concise, and emotional manner. This study aims to analyze how the framing of Islamic da’wah on social media is constructed and perceived by the younger generation, as well as its impact on the substance of Islamic religious education. The method used is library research with a qualitative-descriptive approach, analyzed critically through framing theory (Entman, Pan & Kosicki), the theory of the mediatization of religion, and socio-religious studies in digital society. The findings indicate that social media framing tends to encourage a populist and lightweight style of da’wah, which shifts the focus of religious education from deep value cultivation to instant spiritual consumption. Meanwhile, Millennials and Gen Z respond positively to this approach as it is considered more communicative and relevant to their digital lifestyle, although it carries the risk of reducing the depth of religious understanding. This study recommends the need for a more critical, reflective, and balanced approach to da’wah—between form and substance—so that Islamic religious education continues to play its role in shaping holistic religious character amid the currents of digital globalization
