Ecologically sustainable supply chains are moving more and more into the focus of consumers as well as businesses. Instead of seeing sustainability related topics as a burden, many companies have started embracing sustainability programs and use them to gain or sustain a competitive advantage on the market. In the literature sustainability has been the focus of many scientific papers for many years now. This paper aims to find out which methods for ecological sustainability evaluation of supply chains exist in the literature and if or how they are used within the business sector of self-adhesive vinyl for car wrapping and building wrapping in Austria. For this purpose, this paper has concluded a literature research to identify the most common practices of evaluating ecological supply chain sustainability within the literature. Subsequently the most common practices are described, explained and compared to each other, to evaluate whether the results of these methods can be directly compared to each other. The empirical part of this paper includes interviews conducted with representatives of two Austrian companies in the business of producing and selling self-adhesive vinyl in the car wrapping and building wrapping industry. Additional inquiries to the Austrian federal ministry for digitalisation and business location, to the Austrian federal ministry for climate protection, environment, energy, mobility, innovation and technology as well as to the Lower Austria Economic Chamber have been conducted to find out what methods for the ecological evaluation of supply chains are recommended by the public sector for companies. In the end the findings of the literature research are compared to the findings of the inquiries as well as the interviews to see how much emphasis the companies in the business sector of self-adhesive vinyl for car wrapping and building wrapping put on ecological sustainability within their supply chains.Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien, Masterarb., 202
Facilitating transitions to remote working
This Master Thesis approaches the topics of remote working, transitioning to remote work environments and the corporate facilitation of remote work transition processes. A review of existing scientific literature reveals a research gap in the field of structured models supporting workplace transitions, which establishes the primary baseline for pursuing the research study and posing the research question of “How can transitioning to remote working be facilitated within organisations?”.
The theoretical element of the research study focusses on the topics Change, Change Management, remote working, and facilitating transitions to new workspaces. The process of transitioning to new workspaces finds its roots in the fields of Change and Change Management, encompassing both the management of the transition process and the key impacting factors (Bridges & Bridges, 2019). Covering the theoretical theories of these research fields provides a comprehensive understanding of change processes, that can be translated into the field of transitioning. Gaining a literature perspective in the fields of Remote Working and facilitating transitions to new workspaces allows for a more in-depth look into the situational parameters of the remote work setting, and which key areas and impacts play a role in employee transitions to new workspaces.
The empirical element of the research study involves engaging in expert interviews on the topics of remote working and transitioning to remote working, and then following with a critical evaluation of the findings to theoretical research and corporate best practice. By conducting interviews with Leadership and HR professionals experienced in the field of remote working, main emphases, opportunities, and challenges within virtual work settings are identified and highlighted. These include the importance of collaboration in virtual workspaces, the need for an organisational remote framework to enable a work structure, and the necessary awareness for the wellbeing impact remote working can have on employees long-term. Identifying these main emphases helps to form the baseline for drawing a conclusion on facilitating employee transitions to remote working and recommending a suitable model to support employees throughout the transition process.
Britain's withdrawal from the EU created a new relationship between Britain, the EU and all member states. This paper attempts to analyse from an economic, political and business perspective what a future relationship with the European Union might look like. For the analysis, scenarios are created with the help of solution approaches with other countries to determine potential changes. The thesis describes four exit scenarios and defines their effects. To get an understanding of the Brexit issue, article 50 TEU and the basics of the EU acquis are explained. A chronological Brexit career shows the complex course. The aim of this thesis is to obtain a realistic understanding and assessment of the complexity of this topic.
The aim of this master's thesis is to investigate the factors that play a significant role in the implementation of an e-learning concept. It has been found that nowadays companies are strongly advised to offer their employees different training opportunities and to promote them to maintain their competitiveness. Due to the fastchanging world of work, hardly could any organization afford themselves to not continue developing and training their employees. The new technological developments require a flexible way of thinking and implementation of new innovative tools that encourage lifelong learning of the employees. Flexibility and agility are needed to quickly adapt to the new demands of the workplace. The e-learning methods are therefore recommended as an innovative solution in this case. It seems that the implementation of the e-learning concept needs a lot of support, understanding and patience by the company to ensure success. To give a most exact answer to the research question a detailed literature review has been made. To collect and fill the missing data eight qualitative interviews have been carried out with experts, who already have taken part in the implementation of e-Learning concepts. At the end of this work a detailed analysis and interpretation of the results is provided. The results have been compared to the literature to obtain a critical overview and to be able to provide recommendations for further research in the field.
The two still very immature and practical tools of neuromarketing and digital, databased marketing are developing rapidly and, when used in combination, are expanding the boundaries of possibilities for influencing unconscious processes in consumers' brains. The unease that irrational decisions by consumers may be intended for corporate advantage and that actual harm to consumers may accompany them raises the question of ethical justification for this type of marketing. A detailed ethical consideration of the combined use of data-based marketing with neuromarketing is not yet available in the literature or only to a minimal extent. Therefore, this scientific work aims to answer whether digital neuromarketing can be justified in terms of the common good and which concerns/norms should be considered for its application. The research questions are pursued by means of ethical consideration of the simultaneous application of the Limbic® Map in combination with data-based targeting strategies. The basis for evaluating these applications is the normative core of the Hunt-Vitell model, the "General Theory of Marketing Ethics". It provides for an ethical evaluation of marketing actions based on the concepts of teleology and deontology. For the present study, the method of consequentialism and classical utilitarianism, respectively, as well as Kant's categorical imperative in deontological terms, were chosen accordingly. It is shown that digital and data-based neuromarketing aimed at profit maximisation can be used to a great extent to the detriment of consumers. In this respect, it becomes clear that their combined application is ethically justified without exception, taking into account (social) sustainability to preserve consumers' integrity, autonomy, and self-determination. Based on the ethical investigation as well as the existing evaluated literature, the present work provides initial rules and norms that define an ethical framework for application in practice. Further research in the field of marketing could focus on the technical possibilities to comply with these norms.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202
Zielvorgaben in der Unternehmensplanung von Privatunternehmen
Companies are constantly facing increasing challenges when it comes to the annual budgeting process. In the meantime, the process has developed into a very elaborate and complex process, from which managers often do not derive any added value. Of course, there are many reasons for this, but so-called areas of tension contribute significantly to the process being very resource-consuming.
Developments in classic budgeting processes have changed in such a way that more and more combinations of top-down and bottom-up planning are used, so that the advantages of both processes are combined and the disadvantages are largely pushed into the background. However, due to the increased use of targets new challenges arise, what means that potential tensions need to be identified and solutions which can be implemented without extraordinary effort for dealing with this issue should be provided.
For this reason, the objective of this thesis is to investigate budgeting processes of private companies which use target setting as part of the process. In a further step, possible areas of tensions resulting from target setting are to be identified. Finally, in this context, proposals for potential solutions and prevention of these areas of tensions are to be developed.
Since the literature was very helpful for basic information on this topic, but did not provide sufficient information on the tensions arising from target setting, an empirical case study with expert interviews was also conducted. The evaluation of the interviews provided the necessary insight into corporate planning with targets in order to propose solutions for dealing with them. Based on this, the researcher of this thesis determined that companies must increasingly focus on transparency, cooperation and the integration of process participants in order to reduce emerging areas of tension.
This thesis is primarily aimed at decision-makers in private companies, so that the findings from this thesis can be used to optimize budgeting processes in companies. Furthermore, the thesis is intended to give all other stakeholders an incentive to deal with the problem.Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien, Masterarb., 202
Auswirkungen der COVID-19 Krise auf Downstream Bereiche der Supply Chains innerhalb der Gesundheitsindustrie
This paper addresses the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on healthcare supply chains. The actions taken by national governments provoked inconsistencies along the supply chains, resulting in uncertainty along them. The focus of this paper is on downstream distributors, which have been negatively impacted by the unsteadiness of demand as well as delays in procurement. Distributors experienced delays in production and transportation due to reductions in capacity along supply chains imposed by measures related to the containment of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This paper illustrates the impact of the measures, which resulted in price increases, longer capital commitments, delays in order cycles, reduction in usual supply capacity, as well as transportation. The disruptions have limited the availability of medical good. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate these, in order to generate solutions for the optimization of healthcare supply chains.Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien, Masterarb., 202
Does international diversification with large- and small cap country funds offered by the market lead to higher risk diversification for selected countries as the U.S., UK, Germany, Japan?
Diversification is a major concern to investors who search for an optimal portfolio in terms of risk to performance relation. Modern Portfolio Theory suggests diversification to be key to lower risk in investors’ portfolios. As capital markets integrate over time, forming a global economy, the investment opportunities for investors rise, enabling them to invest globally in the most efficient combination of assets. On the other hand, times of economic integration are accompanied by high correlations which decrease diversification effects. In my case, there is also a shock event in the sample period – the COVID-19 pandemic – which puts diversification effects to the test. Besides, previously conducted research has shown that investors are prone to biases which prevent them from diversifying. Previously done studies as Eun et al. (2008) indicate that there are benefits by diversifying internationally with cap-based funds. In my work over the most recent period of 2016-2021, the correlation is found to be strong among the cap-based funds – except for Japanese funds. Further, an efficient frontier analysis using the Markowitz optimization did not show a significant difference in the optimal portfolios when augmented, with neither small nor large caps. However, in contrast to the findings of Eun et al. (2008), the small cap funds return generating mechanism was mainly driven by global factors. In that matter it appears that small cap funds are more alike to large cap funds than small caps.
The Austrian Government´s implementation of tough restrictions resulted in company employees to work remotely from home to minimize the risk of infection. Therefore, employees have found themselves under pressure to adapt to remote teamwork.
The focus of this paper is on the transition to remote working and virtual collaboration of teams during the COVID-19 pandemic. It first addresses general consequences on work, before deeper analysis of these issues. Then a discussion on virtual teamwork will follow, as this is the most important prerequisite for achieving corporate goals even at a distance. The new skills demanded of employees today have also played a significant role in achieving company goals successfully through virtual communication.
The organizational challenges for working remotely is another prevalent issue - astuteness in managerial roles through these times of crisis has been indispensable. Then, the role of corporate culture in the context of virtual teamwork is addressed. The reader will be given insights into crisis management in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be examined from a psychological point of view on three levels; the micro, meso and macro levels. Before finally examining leadership and crisis communication within crisis management.
The results of qualitative research made with representatives of eight Austrian companies form the core of this thesis. Social economy, private sector and state-affiliated enterprises were considered, as well as urban and rural, conservative and very progressive enterprises. The participants were asked to report on their experiences with virtual teamwork.
The conclusion is, that remote working was well converted in the teams, that the working circumstances were not sufficiently in place though. Leaders deal with the challenges in very different ways - ranging from motivational e-mails to the fact that leadership tasks were no longer performed at all. Likewise, personal changes are ad-dressed both in the interviews as well as in the theoretical part of this thesis.
The crisis has resulted in a new perspective on remote work and triggered a digitalization push.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202
Die Auswirkung der Unternehmenskultur auf die Employee Experience
In today's working world, companies have to contend with major challenges. Due to staff shortages and the increasing market power of employees, the competitive pressure on the labor market is also increasing. In order to continue to be successful in the working world, the focus should be on the employees. Therefore, this Master Thesis deals with Employee Experience. The working environment should be viewed from the employees' perspective and determine what is particularly important to them. In addition, the thesis should provide an understanding of how to motivate employees and increase the loyalty to the company. In addition to the cultural, physical and technological environment factors, the Employee Lifecycle was also used to determine important influencing factors to increase employee motivation and loyalty to the company. The research question in this thesis deals with: Which influencing factors of the corporate culture play an important role in the Employee Experience from the employees' perspective. Also, four hypotheses were formulated and tested in this Master Thesis.
The Master Thesis is composed of a theoretical and empirical part. In order to provide valuable insights into this topic, a total of eight qualitative interviews were conducted. The content analysis according to Mayring was chosen to evaluate the results. The results showed that the following factors have a major influence on the employee experience: Appreciation, opportunity for development, be a part of a team, leadership, sense of purpose, employee health. These factors will be discussed in more detail in this Master Thesis.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202
