The fashion industry has evolved substantially within the last three decades. With the advent of fast fashion, the industry was revolutionized. Due to global changes and rapidity that are accompanied by this concept, retailers have been presented with a challenge. In order to meet the demands, retailers had to adapt their working methods and rethink the functioning of their supply chains. From that point on, the success of a company was determined by its flexibility and responsiveness. The fulfillment of these qualities is important as fashion markets are characterized by short life cycles, high volatility, low predictability and high impulse purchasing. Nevertheless, these adjustments came with enormous consequences on a social and ecological scale. Greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, usage of toxic chemicals and work ethic violations are just the tip of the iceberg. Even though these impacts are well-known, the textile and clothing industry is constantly growing and is also one of the most economically strong sectors. Fast fashion is known for being low cost, short lived and trend based. It is mainly designed based on consumer preferences. Consequently it is essential to examine the target group of fast fashion companies in order to better understand their consumer behavior and, thus, deduce implications for the future. Therefore, this master’s thesis aims to examine the importance of the ever changing customer preferences and the impact of these changes on the design of supply chains in the fast fashion industry. In order to make the connections more understandable this thesis gives some theoretical foundations as well as a more practical point of view. The practical aspect is based on an online survey which is conducted to examine consumer behavior and preferences in the fast fashion industry. The findings are then being examined so that conclusions can be drawn regarding the design of supply chains.
The COVID-19 virus has posed extraordinary challenges to the world and has impacted everyone's lives since its outbreak in China in late 2019. There is no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic has changed and impacted everyone's lives while prompting agencies and governments to respond with measures to keep citizens healthy and safe. Quarantine and travel restrictions, social distancing practices, and mandatory mask wearing continues to be essential in many countries around the world. Due to the described global situation and events, it is of utmost relevance for investors and other stakeholders to be provided with the most important and latest information, especially in times of a pandemic. In concrete terms, this means a transparent presentation of information. It applies to both the financial and non-financial reporting of groups and companies, as well as a comprehensible listing of interactions. The task of this thesis is to evaluate the reports of ten large Austrian companies selected by net sales in 2021 that have to publish IFRS consolidated financial statements. The research questions therefore are:
- What consequences can be expected in light of the COVID-19-pandemic on the corporate reporting of selected Austrian companies?
- In which fields do opportunities arise from the COVID-19-pandemic for the future?
The result shows that there are more negative impacts in the area of financial reporting. In the non-financial area the signs of positive impact and opportunities are evident in the areas of environment and digitalization.
In the future, it will be interesting to observe the development of COVID-19 recovery effects in corporate reporting and in this context interactions between financial and non-financial reporting.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202
Gestaltung der Projektteamarbeit im Homeoffice : Eine Untersuchung der sozialen Faktoren, Kommunikation und Medien
In times of the Corona pandemic, home office is indispensable. This also means that projects are carried out from the home office and teams have to work together virtually. This Master's thesis aims to find out how teamwork in projects carried out from the home office should be organised in order to work efficiently. In order to answer this question, the first part of the Master's thesis consulted literature based on this topic as well as parts of it. The literature was analysed, cross-references to other literature sources were made and the most important contents were summarised. The second part of this Master's thesis is the empirical study, which is based on a qualitative method. For this purpose, people who work on projects in the home office were interviewed. The aim was to find new insights, contradictions and commonalities between theory and empiricism. It turned out that working in a home office requires a lot of additional know-how about virtual communication, leadership and working methods. In addition, some social factors such as motivation, trust, conflicts and mental health also need to be ensured in order to work efficiently in a home office. It has also been shown that the quality of cooperation depends strongly on the digital communication media and that they should therefore be used correctly and according to the situation. The comparison between theory and empiricism has strengthened the contents of the literature in many views, but also brought divergent contents to light.
Electromobility is one of the most important drivers for combating climate change. With a view to Cop26 2021, targets for the introduction of electric vehicles have been pushed forward in many European countries. The switch to electric vehicles can be viewed from an administrative, legal, private and commercial level. The demands of commercial use are primarily related to company fleets. In view of the changing framework conditions on the vehicle market and climate change, companies now must act quickly. However, the prerequisites and conditions are not the same for all companies. The specific characteristics in fleet management must be adapted to the respective framework conditions for electric vehicles. Companies from horizontal or vertical economic sectors can usually achieve rapid and appropriate electrification without resistance. For companies that are not connected to electromobility, however, parameters can make the full electrification of the fleet more difficult. Issues such as the charging infrastructure, the maintenance of electric vehicles and correct daily use must be adapted accordingly. In addition, with regard to the overall cost consideration a certain misinterpretation of the advantages can be assumed in the direct comparison of combustion engines to electric vehicles. As part of the cost analysis the role of the TCO, the Total Cost of Ownership, of electric vehicles can provide valuable information concerning the economical advantageousness. To ensure the correct economic integration of battery electric vehicles in Austrian company fleets, the basic framework has to be enabled. The following thesis deals with the framework conditions for Austrian fleet managers with reference to the electrification of the fleet. In addition, possible opportunities, potential usage variants and challenges are examined.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202
Leadership in an international virtual environment : a reflection after the COVID-19 outbreak
With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, organizations had to undergo transformations of all kinds to continue to survive. One of the most important is related to the prevailing and accelerated digitalization that was imposed in 2020. It is for this reason that the topic of leadership in a virtual and global world -characteristics of the modern world- is of vital importance. Thus, the main goal of this study is to determine what competencies a leader should have in a virtual and international work environment, as well as what have been the main challenges experienced by different leaders and lessons learned in terms of leadership with the arrival of the pandemic and the forced virtualization.
To meet the above objective, eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with leaders experienced in managing virtual teams in a globalized environment to learn about their behaviors during the crisis as well as the most challenging situations and lessons they have learned in leadership during this time. The results showed that a leader in a global virtual world must be a person with the following competencies: 'Interpersonal Understanding, Customer Service Orientation, Directiveness, Flexibility, and Team & Co-Operation'.
Consequently, a leader in an international virtual environment needs to be able to understand not only the needs of the employees to perform their tasks, but also to be empathetic and comprehend their feelings and thoughts. Moreover, the leader must have the ability to direct and give orders, always keeping in mind to positively influence the company. Should be a flexible leader who can understand the changes that are going through and adapt to them, as well as reorganize strategies when circumstances demand it. This person must be able to keep the team united, creating a clear cohesion between the groups themselves and the employees and the company.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Exploration and outline of an adaptive performance strategy for New Work environments
New Work Environments sind daher zwischen zwei sehr unterschiedlichen Performance Management Welten gefangen.
New Work geeigneten Performance Management untersucht.
Purpose: The aim of this Master thesis is to investigate to what extent omnichannel patient engagement in the healthcare sector, combining analogue and digital communication in a unified data platform, contributes to better healthcare outcomes, higher patient satisfaction and a better utilization of healthcare resources. It also analyses if the idea of customer centricity from the consumer sector can be transferred to patient centricity as base of their engagement and what the key success factors and challenges for omnichannel patient engagement are. Furthermore, strategic approaches are discussed.
Research limitations: As omnichannel patient engagement is still a rather unexplored and innovative field, there are few scientific studies on the specific topic to date. Most studies so far have been published by renowned global consultancies and to a lesser extent in academic environments.
Methodology: This Master thesis relies on a combination of literature research for the theoretical part and, for the empirical part, on ten semi-structured interviews with high profile experts from five countries. All experts have been involved for many years in healthcare, covering the spectrum of national and private healthcare systems alike; the majority of them has substantial experience in digital health projects. The interview evaluation is based upon the formation of categories.
Findings: The results show that omnichannel patient engagement leads to better health care outcomes and higher patient satisfaction, especially for chronic conditions and elective surgeries. However, it is also becoming apparent that the classic concept of customer-centricity from the consumer sector cannot be seamlessly transferred to the healthcare sector: the large knowledge gap between patients and healthcare staff leads to a limited power of independent decision making for pa-tients. The dominant human element in healthcare makes it very challenging to de-fine and structure healthcare data. In the implementation of omnichannel systems in healthcare, human behavior elements are key success factors, far ahead of technical-organizational factors. The findings also reveal that there is no “one fits all” omnichannel strategy and that an agile, pragmatic approach is preferable to over-engineering. Clear advantages of OC systems for all stakeholders are particularly important to get their acceptance of omnichannel systems off the ground and pave the way for patient engagement.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202
Analyse der Auswirkungen des Kulturellen Wandel im öffentlichen Dienst in den Bereichen New Work und Fehlerkultur im Kontext der Digitalen Transformation
The following Master's thesis deals with the effects of cultural change in the public sector in the areas of New Work/Work 4.0 and error culture in the context of digital transformation. In addition to the definitions of cultural change, digital transformation, new work/work 4.0 and error culture, the effects of cultural change on the world of work are also examined, along with the associated opportunities and risks. The thematic focus on New Work / Work 4.0 and its essential changes due to the digital transformation will also be considered. In a final step, the focus on error culture is examined. Resulting from these main topics the answer of the appropriate research questions took place:
- How does the digital transformation influence the areas of working hours, working models and leadership culture in the public sector in relation to cultural change?
- How does the digital transformation influence the cultural change of the error culture in the public sector?
- What opportunities and risks does the Cultural Transformation create for the areas of New Work/Work4.0 and error culture?
The research questions were answered by analyzing existing literary sources and by analyzing an independently conducted survey in the form of an online survey. Concluding from this analysis, in addition to the derivation of recommendations for action, opportunities and risks for the individual topics were highlighted accordingly and presented in a summary.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202
