    No full text
The aim of this master thesis is to highlight the positive impact of leveraging digital technology to overcome big global challenges. In this case the argument is built around the topic of biodiversity loss and its related extinction of species. The importance of the ecosystem services enabled by biodiversity are not sufficiently discussed in public although their decrease is having tremendous and existential impact on humanity. It’s not common knowledge yet that biodiversity is the foundation for slowing down climate change and securing the nutrition of the entire world. Achieving an exact understanding of the correlation between biodiversity loss and reduction of ecosystem services is therefore of highest importance while collecting the required data to research successfully is extremely challenging. This is why this thesis is putting the question of how digital solutions facilitate the scaled collection of biodiversity data into the front and center while detailed use cases validated by experts are described. This way it can also be showcased how different user groups benefit from digital solutions and what the correlating chances and risk are. As a result of this analysis it can be confirmed that the efficiency within the systematic collection and documentation of biodiversity data can be increased via the usage of digital technologies. Further, this master thesis brings two originally siloed disciplines together and allows a holistic view on the correlation between scientific work and IT. This thesis delivers an exciting perspective on how scientific research can be enhanced via newly structured approaches while also stressing the value of digitalization in regards to overcoming big global problems.

In the 50s, knowledge was already identified as a competitive factor. A connection between innovation and the creation of knowledge was established. The creation of knowledge can take place within the company as well as through impulses from outside – for the best result, both ways are linked together. The ways in which customer knowledge is gained have changed due to technological developments. New forms of cooperation involving digital channels have been added. Customer orientation has also established itself in companies around the 50s. Since then, the understanding of customer orientation as well as the methods for implementation have also evolved. How customer knowledge is gained seems to become an almost irrelevant question. It is more important that it is done and, above all, that knowledge is adequately taken into account in the innovation process. Nevertheless, it can make sense to start with a low-threshold method such as online surveys in order to make the integration of customer knowledge a lived practice. The present work identifies the online customer survey as a low-threshold and efficient way to bring know-ledge from outside into the company. An empirical study approaches the question of what role customer groups have on the results of an online customer survey. In addition, the work provides recommendations for action in practice.

New application possibilities are constantly emerging in information and communica-tion processing. The optimization of digital processes has thus also become an inevi-table topic for tax consulting firms in Austria, creating new possibilities and opportu-nities that must be exploited. However, these changes and innovations can also bring challenges for people and companies, which need to be recognized on the one hand and exploited on the other. The aim of this paper is therefore to find out what challenges can arise from the digit-ization of tax consulting firms, why these challenges arise, and what prerequisites and framework conditions must be met to successfully overcome these problems and ob-stacles. Based on the topic "Challenges in the digitalization of Austrian tax consulting firms", the following research question is formulated: "What challenges do Austrian tax consulting firms face in the digitalization of their processes?" From this main question, the following sub-questions are derived: "Which processes of a tax consulting firm can be digitized?", "Which prerequisites and framework conditions must be given to suc-cessfully integrate digitization concepts in a tax consulting firm?", "Why do challenges arise in the digitization of tax consulting firms?". As a methodological approach for this master thesis, the author chose literary herme-neutics for the theoretical part. For the empirical part of the master thesis, the social science method of expert interviews was chosen. This scientific work deals on the one hand with the subject area "tax consulting" and its core processes and on the other hand with the subject area "digitalization", in particular the difficulties and challenges arising from the implementation of "innovations in the field of digitalization". In order to obtain the broadest possible knowledge in relation to the research question, a qual-itative survey will also be conducted, which will be integrated as supplementary sources.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Umsetzung und Aufbau einer HR-Funktion in Klein- und Mittelunternehmen

The master thesis on hand addresses the subject of HR management in small and medium-sized businesses. As demonstrated by the most recent research, even though human resource management is more important for small and medium-sized companies than it is for large corporations, small and medium businesses hardly ever possess fundamental theoretical knowledge, a structured plan or a human resource department. This thesis tackles mentioned-above issues and intends to answer the questions as to why certain HR functions are more relevant than others and why those relevant functions in form of a well-conceived HR structure are paramount for the success of small or medium-sized organizations. It intends to analyze both structure and practical use of HR operations in small and medium-sized businesses and subsequently aims to present a concept for the realization of a properly designed HR function. Initially the author deals with the basic principles of human resource management. Then a concept is shaped to illustrate the processes of implementation and construction of an integrated HR function in small and medium-sized businesses. In the next step theoretical knowledge is compared and associated with processed data from field and expert interviews. Finally, the research results are presented.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

The anthropogenic climate crisis and the resulting growing inequalities – intragenerational and intergenerational – present the entire world population with the greatest challenge of this century. To overcome this, not only a trend towards sustainability, but a change in our entire economic system is required. Education is the most effective lever to teach the future generation of leaders this transformation. For this reason, the present study is dedicated to the research question in what way environmental and sustainability topics are integrated into business lessons in professional schools for commercial apprenticeships in the province of Salzburg. The starting point of this study is a theoretical consideration of sustainability and sustainable economic models. The analysis of the syllabus of commercial apprenticeships represents the first part of the empirical study. Subsequently, a qualitative content analysis is used to evaluate and examine interviews with experts.

    No full text
The school education system is surrounded by rapid and multi-layered change, but hardly seems to change itself. This results in increasingly complex challenges to fulfil an educational mission that equips young people with the skills they need for their future. Technological progress, autonomisation and the shortage of skilled workers, as well as climate change or the Corona pandemic, place demands on a centuries-old system that also has inherent inadequacies. International studies such as PISA show an inadequate handling of heterogeneity, which inevitably increases in large learning groups in a globalised world. The differences between learners are very large and in some cases minimum competences are not achieved. Digital transformation changes the content we should learn and the way we learn. It is important to examine how technology can be used effectively in schools. Artificial intelligence is one of the technologies of the future that is having a disruptive effect on our working world and is already producing programmes that can be used in the school context, but have so far only been tested in individual trial runs. This work therefore undertakes a classification of the concept of artificial intelligence and explores how far it affects the existing problem of dealing with heterogeneity and which potentials arise from it. It focuses on a market-leading adaptive learning system, describes the results of a practical test run in two Hessian school classes and the insights gained for the teaching-learning situation from the discussions with the pedagogues involved.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

The importance of Machine Learning is rapidly growing worldwide. At the same time, the economic, ecological and social challenges facing the dairy industry in Germany, the largest and most time-critical sector of the food industry, are increasing. Advances in Machine Learning suggest great potential for the German dairy industry. Nevertheless, a large application deficit can be observed. Based on the results of a literature research including current quantitative studies in combination with expert interviews within the framework of a qualitative research work, the questions are answered as to which potentials exist with regard to the application of Machine Learning in the German dairy industry and which critical success factors can be identified for the utilisation of the application potentials. The aim of this work is to provide companies in the German dairy industry with guidance to increase the successful application of Machine Learning and to overcome the lack of practical application. The results show that the greatest application potential for Machine Learning for the dairy industry in Germany lies in planning and logistics for the purpose of forecasting as well as in production for the purpose of robotics, predictive quality, anomaly detection and predictive maintenance. Eleven critical success factors are identified as decisive for the successful use of the application potentials. The presentation of the results enables dairy companies to derive individual use cases from the identified application potentials and, on the basis of the critical success factors, to find out where deficits exist in order to take targeted measures to increase the success.

The following master’s thesis deals with the topic apartment vacancy in Vienna and what influence measures to reduce residential vacancy have on private landlords*landladies, especially on old building-apartment owners. In 2021, the discussion around the introduction of a vacancy tax was reignited to reduce the vacancy in Vienna. Vienna is known for its tenant-friendly housing policy. Due to a benchmark, apartments in old buildings are not allowed to exceed a certain rent, which restricts landlords accordingly. Currently various measures are in place to help motivate owners of vacant apartments to rent them out. With the help of qualitative expert interviews with property managers and the use of an interview guide and a category system to analyze the responses, the effectiveness of these measures was examined, and compared to the results obtained by literature research. As a result of the empirical research, this paper determined that the law on tenancy is not up to date, and that it is not financially profitable for owners in Vienna to rent out apartments in old buildings at the present time. Furthermore, these buildings are often not affected by vacancies and thus a possible vacancy tax would be no solution. Therefore, this work concludes that a precise survey should be carried out, to evaluate which apartments are really affected and which factors contributed to this vacancy before drastic measures such as the implementation of a vacancy tax are taken.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Edge SEO : die Nutzung von Edge Computing in der Suchmaschinenoptimierung

    No full text
In Search Engine Optimization one key element is „to get things done“ in a technical way. This means getting technical issues implemented, which will affect SEO for the particular website. Edge SEO seems to be a solution for some SEO practitioners in this industry. This concept means using edge computing for implementing SEO measures. The principle implies, that it‘s possible to make technical changes on the website without touching the actual code. This thesis examines the use of edge SEO as a method and defines its requirements and benefits. With the help of these, recommendations for actions will be given for businesses and organizations. Qualitative data was gathered with two empirical studies. Firstly an action research showed how to implement edge SEO with the help of Service Workers or so called Edge Workers. The research showed that the examined cases could be done in an agile way in comparison to standardized practices. The second study uses inter-views with experts to get a deeper insight in using this method at scale. The results show that using edge computing in SEO can be really effective and useful, but it still has its dangers and its boundaries, where it can have a negative impact on the website. One key requirement to use this method is to be aware of the architectural features, when using edge layers in front of the regular website infrastructure. So for using this method there should be fundamental knowledge of the website structure and technical correlations. In practice this method is very useful for redirections, proof-of-concept and testing, optimizations and dynamic changes at scale, which means its rather useful for big organizations. Anyway, serverless applications and edge solutions will be an important tool for all practitioners in the field of web development, performance optimization, page speed optimization and for sure also in SEO.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202
