Effektive Gruppenführung in der wandelnden Arbeitswelt

    No full text
This master thesis analyses the possibilities of middle managers to contribute to the effectiveness of groups in relation to the changing world of work. Globalization, digitalization, and most recently, the Covid-19-pandemic have changed the world of work significantly and have put many people into a hybrid working environment. Primarily due to the dynamics of change and advancing digitalization, people are increasingly working in groups. As group work alone does not guarantee effectiveness this paper examines to which extent middle managers can increase the aforementioned. This paper contains a theoretical elaboration on the concept of groups in general and the leadership tasks in group work. In this context, various aspects of leadership and group psychology, such as management styles, group formation, and cohesion, are analyzed. In addition, eight expert interviews were conducted, which provided further insights and analyses. The influence of leaders on group effectiveness and, accordingly, the importance of their influence on groups will be illustrated throughout the thesis. Furthermore, different measures of middle management which can increase group effectiveness are identified.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Aufbau und Einordnung des Projektportfoliomanagements in der Organisationsstruktur staatsnaher Unternehmen

Project portfolio management brings advantages in deciding on the right projects, standardizing project initiation, or optimizing investment decisions. Defined organizational structures in project portfolios help to improve decision-making paths and optimize the flow of information and communication. Regarding the coordination and monitoring of the company-wide project portfolio, the Project Management Office can take over some of the tasks of project portfolio management. In 75% of the interviewed companies there is such a PMO, which partly also takes over project portfolio management tasks. In the theory section, the current state of the literature on the subject is presented. Here, for example, the difficulties of a primary implementation of portfolio management as well as the norms and standards concerning portfolio management are mentioned. Of particular importance are DIN 69909, ISO 21504, ISO 21505, The Standard for Portfolio Management, ICB and the APM Body of Knowledge standard. When looking at the various standards, it became apparent regarding the structure of portfolio management that an essential core of the structure is the interaction of the role of the portfolio manager in combination with a committee. An example of this is the governance committee, which is empowered by an organization to set the procedures and processes to guide the portfolio activities. This allows prioritization of portfolio components. This master thesis addresses the question of what structure is required for project portfolio management and how it fits into the organizational structure. One of the main findings of the empirical part of the study is that none of the state-owned companies examined have any special characteristics that directly affect the structure of project portfolio management. However, there are general differences to the private sector. One example of this are the special stakeholders of the projects. Furthermore, one of the companies cites its above-average strict IT compliance and data protection rules as a special feature of its proximity to the state. The empirical studies carried out also show that there are no direct special features regarding the organizational placement of the project portfolio management.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Die immerwährende Neutralität Österreichs als probates Mittel oder überholtes Brauchtum? : eine vergleichende Analyse

Austrian neutrality came into force as in October 1955 and was consequently enshrined in constitutional law. For citizens, this status has always been a measure for their own security. It means to remain free of alliances and to remain neutral in military conflicts. This historical event is therefore celebrated on October the 26th with the National Day. Accordingly, neutrality forms an important basis of Austria's security and defense policy. The accession to the European Community in 1995 brought about a revolution in Austria's security strategy, which also changed neutrality and had an impact on security policy decisions. On the one hand, the adjustment in the Austrian constitution and on the other hand through a Common Foreign and Security Policy with all EU member states. The mutual assistance clause in the EU Treaty obliges Austria to provide all assistance and support in the event of an armed attack on the territory of one member state. The congruence between neutrality and the obligation to provide assistance will therefore not be compatible in the long run and leads to constant political and legal debates. Now Russia's military attack on Ukraine brings a shift in the overall security outlook. Neutral countries, such as Finland and Sweden, are rearranging their priorities and deciding to give up their neutrality and join NATO. This thesis therefore examines Austria's neutrality policy and whether it is still the appropriate means for a secure Austria in the future. Through an analytical comparison with the Scandinavian countries, the history of the development of the neutral countries is elicited and compared with Austria. Subsequently, a future collective security strategy with the EU and NATO will be researched in order to conclude on the scope for decision-making for Austria and finally to answer the research question.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Herausforderungen für Biotech-KMU am europäischen Markt durch die neuen Regularien zur Inverkehrbringung von In-vitro-Diagnos-tika (IVDR)

    No full text
On May 26, 2022, EU Regulation 2017/46 on in vitro diagnostic medical devices (IVDR) — a new regulatory framework for placing in vitro diagnostic devices (IVDs) on the market — came into effect. This regulation details new and extended requirements for developing, manufacturing, and placing IVDs on the European market. An estimated quarter of clinical decisions relies solely on results provided by IVDs, so an adequate supply of high-quality products to the medical system is essential. As 95 % of manufacturers on the European market are classified as small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the goal of this thesis is to determine how the IVDR challenges SMEs and these SMEs need to adapt in order to cope with the new situation. To obtain those conclusions, the current state of literature and legislation is researched and differences between the IVDR and the preceding directive on in vitro diagnostic devices (IVDD) are evaluated. Subsequently, the resulting challenges to SMEs are described and an opportunity and risk profile is created for this market segment. The implications of the IVDR implementation for an SME are then empirically evaluated by means of a qualitative case study investigating the Austrian company Bloom Diagnostics. The results from both the literature research and case study indicate a significant in-crease in workload and administrative efforts for SMEs to comply with the new regulation. Equally, additional skills for specialized areas of work, such as clinical evidence generation, is required for a large proportion of companies that are challenged with these tasks for the first time. As market opportunities are not expected to increase as a reward for the additional effort taken, the IVD market risks experiencing an abatement in innovation and market growth. These expectations are further fueled by regulatory grey zones present in the new regulation and an expected overload of certifying bodies during the implementation period. Successfully mastering the challenges posed by the IVDR creates significant opportunities for SMEs who could face less competition and attract additional funding and a qualified workforce, leveraging their new organizational capabilities. Future research investigating the effect of the IVDR on the market over the coming years is essential to critically evaluate the regulation and required adaptations.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Current challenges in corporate environments call existing business models into question and require new corporate strategies. In this context, agility is often mentioned as a success factor, and therefore a growing number of companies are implementing agility and strive for an agile transformation. The aim of this study is to elucidate the challenges of agile transformation in-depth with a particular emphasis on the role of executives. This research project is approached by a comprehensive literature review in the pertinent research areas along with conducting interviews with respected experts in their field, followed by a qualitative content analysis of the interview results. The first part is devoted to the principal areas of research for this study, with a focus on change processes in companies, agility and agile leadership. First, current challenges for companies are outlined in more detail, in particular in the context of present megatrends impacting companies. Based on the literature review, the approaches to change that can be pursued in companies and the role of the manager within these processes are explained. In the subsequent sections, the fundamentals and principles of agility and agile leadership, as well as the associated challenges for companies, are described in more detail. The empirical part of this work consists of five expert interviews. For this purpose, experts were selected who either had themselves been involved in a change process as managers or who, based on their respective expertise, had served as consultants in this area. The results of the qualitative content analysis revealed that the implementation of an agile transformation poses several challenges for managers. In the majority of companies, lack of comprehensive support from upper management, resistance and a lack of willingness to change, reservations towards the agile methodology and fear of losing responsibility played a major role. Likewise, hierarchical management structures could not be replaced despite the agile transformation and hampered the adoption of a new understanding of the role of agile leadership. Furthermore, the general lack of a holistic understanding of agility and insufficient implementation of change management were evident.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Künstliche Intelligenz : Chancen für kleine und mittlere Unternehmen

    No full text
This Master theses aims to show the potential of the use of artificial intelligence in SMEs and furthermore wich opportunities are associated with it and finally what competitive advantages can arise from this. The first step is to define the term of AI and where its use in the company is possible. In concrete terms, this is followed by an examination of the questions of how and where the use of AI makes sense for a medium-sized company and is feasible with the available human and financial resources. The company Lingemann GmbH was chosen as a case study; it is a supplier and service provider for industrial customers and offers a full supply of C-parts. Using an AI project that has already begun at Lingemann, the concrete implementation in practice is described and the associated opportunities and risks are presented. The considerations in this paper relate specifically to the use of AI in internal processes and in this concrete practical case, to the implementation in the area of financial accounting. The final conclusion gives an outlook on further, possible and meaningful implementation projects for AI, which relate to the areas of procurement logistics, intralogistics and distribution logistics. A further point in the final considerations will also be the question of how companies must change in order to be able to use the new technologies successfully and how the demands on employees will change. It is not the aim of this thesis to decisively examine the use of AI in all conceivable areas of application; this would go beyond the scope of a Master's thesis. For this reason, a general overview of the topic is followed by a presentation of a current project that is being implemented. After a general overview of the topic, the second part of this thesis looks at a cur-rent project that can be used in the opportunity and risk assessment both as a reference for further, internal projects and in abstract form for other SMEs. In the first part of this paper, existing literature is consulted, for the second research question the case study at the company Lingemann GmbH on the basis of observations and project documentation, whether, how and with wich success the use of AI is possible. Smaller medium-sized companies do not play a role in the current studies and publications on the topic of AI, so it was new territory for the management of Lingemann GmbH and the justified question was asked whether the size of the company, the field of activity, the industry and the current employee structure are ready for such a project. In the context of this work, the opportunities but also the risks are to be examined and the question clarified whether and, if so, which fin-dings are transferable to other SMEs.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Which criteria are important for Generation X and Generation Y when choosing a bank?

    No full text
This master thesis examines the preferred type of banking and level of service by Generation X and Generation Y. Due to ongoing digitalisation and various influences of the respective phases of life, the two generations are shaped differently. Banking is increasingly being done from home, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which prompts the question as to whether Generation X and Generation Y still prefer branch banks to online banks. Furthermore, Generation X’s and Generation Y’s preferred level of service when selecting a product and whether there is a gender-specific difference in this regard should be examined. Information was collected from literature sources and a survey of Generation X and Y participants. The survey was analysed in Excel and revealed that branch banks are preferred to online banks. Almost every Generation X survey participant prefers branch banks, while some Generation Y survey participants also prefer online banks. Furthermore, the study investigated whether branch advice or other advice such as phone, email or chatbot is preferred. This evaluation demonstrated that while Generation X favours branch advice, just over half of those surveyed in Generation Y prefer other advice. As regards gender, women in particular prefer branch banks, while half of the men favour branch banks and the other half prefer online banks. Overall, however, branch advice is preferred. Regarding the form of communication, including their personal advisor or other branch employees, personal communication ranks first with the personal advisor, while personal communication, as well as communication via phone, is preferred with another branch employee. Both genders and generations prefer personal communication with a personal advisor, but only women and Generation X favour personal communication with another branch employee. Instead, men prefer communication over the phone, and Generation Y favours communication via phone or email. A trend towards online banks is likely in the future, as they are preferred in many cases, especially by the younger generations. Personal communication will also decrease, and contact will shift towards phone and email, per the survey results.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Behavioural finance in the COVID-19 crisis : aspects of impaired rationality in recent financial investment decisions

    No full text
Human reasoning does not always follow a strictly rational path. This also applies to investment behaviour and this phenomenon is referred to as "behavioural finance". However, there is little research on whether and how behavioural finance patterns have changed in the COVID-19 crisis. This question is addressed in this thesis. More specifically, it is hypothesised that there is greater risk aversion and less risk-seeking investment behaviour during the pandemic. In addition, well-known effects such as mental accounting and herd behaviour may be expected to play out more strongly in times of crisis. To explore the research question, a questionnaire for financial advisors was designed. It is assumed that these individuals should have comprehensive insight into the investment behaviour of their clients before and during the pandemic. The results suggest that investors' willingness to take risks has hardly diminished during the crisis. However, investors have become more aware of the potential volatility of their financial instruments, while the majority of the hypotheses formulated could not be validated. Overall, investor behaviour in a crisis as severe as the pandemic appears to be quite complex and more empirical research is desirable.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202
