Retentionmanagement und materielle Anreize in KMUs

    No full text
The declining bond between employees and their company combined with the significant disadvantages for employers of adverse personnel quitting lead to an increased importance of retention management. This paper explores what kind of measures and binding methods retention management provides and which effects it has on the staff. Since small and medium-sized enterprises, in comparison to large enterprises, are usually lagging behind in the development of their human resources management, this paper focuses on small and medium enterprises. The writer describes the current status of retention management in Lower Austrian small and medium-sized enterprises, the methods offered by small and medium-sized enterprises as well as the efficiency of these methods. Furthermore this paper presents a detailed description of material incentives and their effectiveness as a means to retain staff. To deal with this topic, this work draws on literary sources as well as empirical research, including qualitative expert interviews in Lower Austria. This diploma thesis concludes that entrepreneurs in charge of leadership exert some kind of retention management automatically. Based on economic reasons, retention management is becoming increasingly important. The main binding factors of retention management are corporate culture, working atmosphere, leadership, personnel development and the organization of working time. Regarding material incentives, it is fundamental to focus on a fair distribution of money. Although material incentives have a very strong binding effect, they should be combined with other intangible factors to keep the satisfaction of employees permanently high.David GruberMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2014 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaftslehr

This Master Thesis describes the development of change management since 1996. For this purpose the author firstly pictures out the history of change man-agement and organizational change of the last century and then presents estab-lished change management models which are challenged against new developed change management models. Also this thesis shows similarities in the develop-ment of change management models between US and European developments. It will be shown that there is something new in change management regarding to the change that occurs constantly in the world. New technologies, globalization and perspectives on organizations lead to new topics in change management and organizational development, like complexity theory, Theory U and change man-agement 2.0. Studies show that in the future change management will be more important than in the past and present.Andreas DöltlMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2014 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaftslehr

Application of Markov Regime Switching Model for optimal portfolio choice

    No full text
This paper proposes a Markov-switching asset allocation model with three asset classes. The model is based on two main economic models: Markov Regime Switching asset pricing model and Markowitz portfolio optimization model. Markov Switching model reduces risky assets exposure during the periods of high volatility. The main goal of this thesis is to analyse the out-of-sample back-tested performance of a regime-based asset allocation strategy under realistic assumptions, compared to an Equal Weight, Equal Money and classical Markowitz benchmark portfolios. An empirical study, using monthly return series of indices, representing three asset classes: US Equities, High Yield Bonds, and US Government Bonds over the last 20 years. The strategy outperforms all three other benchmark strategies in terms of risk- return balance after taking transaction costs into account.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 201

This master thesis treats with the challenges which EU supported projects include. The applicants have to submit the project idea in a defined time space to the EU commission. The applicants have the possibility to do the projects with partners which also have to fulfil duties during the project. The challenges of an EU sup-ported project are, that for bigger companies it is much easier to handle an EU project because the effort is very high and for smaller companies it could be diffi-cult to handle this beside the normal business. Furthermore the possibilities how the remaining financial resources can be found are discussed, because the EU just supports a maximum of 50% of the project sum. The knowledge of the theory was proven by interviews with people who have already done EU projects. In the interviews was shown that external consultants are involved, because of the chal-lenges and effort which an EU project provides. These consultants are specialised to support the companies during the projects in different things. The result of the master thesis shows that the effort and the challenges are extreme.Patricia BrunnerMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2014 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaftslehr

Project and product management are two disciplines which have their own defined roles, models and methods. But they are connected and share some of these roles models and methods especially in the field of custom software development. This paper shows common ground between the two disciplines using state of the art literature as well as interviews of persons working in both fields. As a result a clear distinction between the two fields could be made where possible and com-mon roles, models and methods and their relevant connection points could be identified. Based on these models where developed to make effective use of the common ground and to outline possibilities of project managers pursuing careers in product management. This helps people working in either field not just to understand the other but also executive managers to establish effective and efficient project and product man-agers within their organizations.

Work, and especially project oriented work, tends to leak from job into private life. This thesis observes how deep work related issues penetrate the border between job and private life and which parameters are responsible for penetration or its stimulation. This thesis is first and foremost a literature study. The area of study includes the growing transformation from traditional employment arrangements to alternative employment arrangements and takes a look into the history of this transformation. It also analyses the blurring of boundaries between work and private life and the issue of subjectivisation of the employee. The attempt of explaining the phenomenon of self-exploitation of high educated employees, which is closely linked to the both areas mentioned before, is the third part of the thesis. A closer look into the employee’s point of view on work-life balance is taken in and the results are linked to all findings in the other areas. All these phenome-nons are connected to the project management oriented organisations, which are in need of special types of employment options and working conditions to function properly. The results are suggestions for both the project manager and the employee to find a balance between work and life to avoid burn-out or loss of work force.Thomas SchifferMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2014 Fachbereich: Projektmanagemen

Motivations- und Charakteranalyse von Generation Y UnternehmensgründerInnen in der DACH Region

    No full text
The term Generation Y describes people born between 1978 and 2000 and is also a much discussed topic recently. As this generation ages it moves into the focus of recruiters and many psychological publications address the workrelated motivation and personality structure of this generation. Despite the huge number of existing studies covering young Generation Y employees the number of publications addressing Generation Y entrepreneurs is very limited. The main goal of this thesis is to analyze the general personality structure of Generation Y entrepreneurs in the so called DACH region, as well as their work-related values and motives. Furthermore this work addresses possible differences between employees and entrepreneurs of this generation. To round up the study it also tries to identify differences between other generations. These goals are achieved through both, a theoretical analysis of existing literature, as well as an empirical study. The empirical part is based on the analysis of personality assessment data of (n = 17.790) Generation Y profiles gathered by the online assessment platform mercurypuzzle.com. This platform utilizes two recognized, psychometric instruments Shapes & Views from the assessment company cute in order to create a detailed report of a candidate’s personality and their workrelated values and motives. Through the comparison of literature addressing general entrepreneurial personality studies and the results of the empirical data analysis it was able to demonstrate the existence of major differences between theoretical described personality structures of entrepreneurs and Generation Y entrepreneurs. Other findings suggest that there are statistical significant differences between those two classes. Correspondingly Generation Y entrepreneurs are more directing, persuasive, socially confident, conceptual, imaginative and autonomous. On the other side it appears that they are less agreeable, conscientious, systematic and competitive. As far as the workrelated values and motives are concerned, Generation Y entrepreneurs value financial rewards, flat hierarchies, recognition of performance, fun while working, development opportunities, a high identification with their work and a secure workplace. The high value of security is especially interesting as it is one of the major differences to existing literature. Based on the empirical research of this thesis further research can be done regarding economic implications of these findings.Alexander BirkeMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2014 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaftslehr

Gruppendynamik, Selbstorganisation und Hochleistungsteams in virtuellen Projektteams

    No full text
Due to rapid changes in the world environment, increasing customer requirements and expectations of new generation’s, teams nowadays go through changes such as evacuated core time, flexible teamwork and an innovative mixture of the worklife balance. Virtual worlds have impacts on the transformation of working, leading and communication culture in teams. Virtual teamwork frequently fail because distance teams don’t get the same intense attention, preparation and assistance by project managers like face-to-face teams or are not experienced in selforganization. However, the results of this master thesis can be used to understand and influence the growing number of virtual teams, their development and a positive project closure. This master thesis focuses on the differences between face-to-face teams and virtual teams related to project managers, project team members, on virtual highperformance teams and how to form them. In addition, the thesis includes the group dynamics position model created by Raoul Schindler and the versatility of this model in future teams. Therefore, eight experts were interviewed in the form of a qualitative study in order to compare these outcomes with the theoretical results of the literature review. These experts are professionals, consultants or project managers regarding group dynamics, virtual teams or team development projects. Results shown that the tendency of virtual team work, driven by ‘digital natives’, is going to be escalating in the next years. Compared to the virtual drive, the building and supporting of virtual self-organized high-performance teams is getting more relevant. Different group positions can be identified in virtual groups which leads to the assumption that the group dynamics position model is also applicable in the virtual world of tomorrow.Cornelia MechtlerMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2014 Fachbereich: Projektmanagemen

    Einflussfaktoren auf die Projektvorstudie

In many companies it is common practice to define complex tasks as projects. The scope of these projects differs, however, living in times where cost pressure domi-nates most companies’ strategy, efficiency-enhancing measures are required. Hence, executives are keen to know whether planned projects actually deliver an-ticipated benefits and add expected value, which supposedly result in economic profitability. Conducting a preliminary study is an approach to determine whether these requirements/needs can be fulfilled or not. A preliminary study is especially suitable for a project which structure, sequences, or goals are yet to be defined. In contrast to a usually predefined framework of large investments, however, there is no universal schema which a preliminary study should follow. In fact, factors from outside affect the process and consequently influence the result. As those factors have a significant impact on the outcome of preliminary studies, this thesis is to research, identify, and analyse the most prevalent factors. This is done by a litera-ture research and a case study. Apart from focusing on economic factors, especially corporate factors (e.g. employees and their motivation), the factors corporate culture and internal processes are considered as well. Results show the most important influence factors, like process integration, a sufficient requirements engineering and a valuable business case as well. To examine the findings of the theoretical chap-ters, a case study about a preliminary study of an Austrian bank on the introduction of a document management system is presented in the last section.Marcel FikiszMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2014 Fachbereich: Projektmanagemen
