Verursachungsgerechte Verrechnung von Umschlagsleistungen bei Logistikdienstleistern
Logistics Service Providers, which provide transportation of LTL goods, so called groupage freight, have to deal with certain challenges according to cost evaluation of their transshipment operations in the hub locations of their logistics service networks. The internal transfer pricing system in a logistics service network of a LSP according to transshipment operations of groupage freight should be able to distribute the indirect costs of the operations in the hubs to the cost units in an appropriate manner. An evaluation of different internal transfer pricing systems of logistics service providers should be executed. A comparison of theoretical perceptions and insights due to interviews with Austrian LSP should lead to the detection of an internal transfer pricing system for logistics service networks, which is able to distribute the indirect costs of the transshipment operations to the cost units in an appropriate manner. The accomplishment of the interviews with two main Austrian LSP led to interesting results. There is the need to combine existing internal transfer pricing system with theoretical exceptions in order to reach the goal to have a system, which is able to reach an appropriate distribution of indirect costs.
This master thesis discusses and analyses the trustship between stakeholders within the Supply Chain Management. One of the most important requirement for working together is trust. The reason for cooperation are increasing their competitiveness. The aim is to reduce time and cost for production. Aditionally to improve the quality of a product or process. Nevertheless, there are changes and risks on market, which may affect trust in cooperation. For example, written contracts between companies are in praxis and compulsory compared to oral arrangements or handshake quality which most probably loose on significance. Furthermore the competitive pressure has been increased and as a result of market crises in 2008, companies are forced to be more capable of competing and efficiency of doing business. There are difficulties for firms too to predict future developments. That concerns also of the future behaviour of a partner in a Supply Chain and it´s real willingness to cooperate. These factor causes Uncertainty. Nonetheless trust would be not necessary, if no uncertainty or risk would exist. This master thesis examines on the one hand the importance of trusthip in the supply chain Management and the significance of handshake quality and on the other hand it influence of the mentioned circumstances.
This master thesis examined the role and impact of indi-viual and organizational culture differences as the cause of crises in construction projects. In a globalized world, it is very likely to be confronted with people and orga-nizations with a differing culture, which can lead to missunderstandings, conflicts and in the worst case to crises. Literature on culture, project management and crisis management was examined, and five interviews with project managers from the construction business were conducted. The study found that culture differnces can have a major impact on construction projects and on projects in general that led to crises in the surveyed pro-jects. It is therefore necessary to prepare for culture dif-ferences before entering a project. Especially an intercul-tural training and the selection of a culture sensitive pro-ject manager is recommended.
A Post-Merger Integration process is a difficult and complex task. It consists of a long list of requirements and activities that have to be fulfilled within a short period of time. There are many opportunities to exploit and many decisions to take. The aspired goal in Post-Merger-Integration processes is the full integration of the acquired company,1 which consists of certain integration measures such as strategic, organizational, personal and cultural incorporation. Hence, the integration focuses on the bringing together of companies and their activities concerning alignment of merging individual divisions or departments within the two companies to a new and successful operating unit.2 A merger and its cultural integration are to be understood as a long term process, where a large number of characteristics of the company such as values, language, actions or behaviors are involved. Considering these aspects, the readers of this thesis will understand the impact of the corporate culture on a Post-Merger-Integration strategy. Therefore this paper will examine, amongst others, the following research question: “What role does the corporate culture play in the implementation of a Post-Merger-Integration, by considering the case studies on the mergers of mobilkom Austria AG / Telekom Austria TA AG and Orange Austria Telecommunication GmbH / Hutchison Drei Austria GmbH?” In order to figure out the required answers to this question, this thesis will analyze in the first part the main theoretical views of Post-Merger-Integration processes and corporate culture. Taking into account the above mentioned different theoretical aspects, the reader will be introduced to practical examples from the Austrian telecommunication industry. The objective of this paper is to understand the impact of the corporate culture by considering the above mentioned case studies within a Post-Merger-Integration phase. This study will generate its information via high-valued literature, journals and articles related to this topic. The practical examples are based on an empirical study, which was acquired by qualitative interviews.
Due to demographic developments the composition of the population is changing in a fundamental way. An effect which results from that is the fact that the percentage of elderly people aged 65 years and over is steadily growing and will further increase in future. Furthermore, mobility is a basic need of every human being and is defined as the overcoming of geographical distances. This is especially problematic in rural areas because of the underdeveloped public transport system. This thesis analyzes the status quo of mobility, as well as evaluates the need for action in the field of elderly traffic participants in rural areas of Austria. Through using a combination of theory and qualitative research, activities for communities were worked out. By using a manual, the survey among experts was carried out in rural areas. To evaluate the statements of the respondents a content analysis method was used. The thesis found that mobility can be measured by using figures, e.g. the outdoor share decreases with age, but also the mobility rate is reduced significantly over the age of 75. Regarding the modal split, it can be noted that one third of retired people use the car as a means of transport, and half of the elderly rather walk. On the one hand, there are individual restrictions relating to their health system. Increased iris sensitivity and deterioration of the auditory system are possible diagnoses of elderly people. On the other hand, there are external constraints that can be classified into weaknesses of the transport system as a whole, e.g. not enough bus stops are available or there are only poor sidewalk conditions. The risk of an accident for the elderly is four times lower compared to adolescents. Moreover, the degree of injury is higher for elderly people and the risk of dying in an accident is 5%. The causes of accidents are usually inattention or distraction. The most common type of accidents are fall accidents in apartments or in traffic zones of the surrounding residential areas. Due to the poorly developed public transport in rural areas, older people are dependent on the car. The thesis describes possible measures to increase the mobility of senior citizens. Besides, the infrastructure could be adapted, for example, by reducing unnecessary traffic signs. In public transport, support could be provided by helping the elderly getting on and off the train or bus. Additionally, shuttle or delivery services could bring the elderly to shops or doctors. This means, by introducing municipality buses or a collective taxi service, the problem of mobility limitation could be solved successfully in rural communities. The thesis concludes that with affordable and implementable measures, the mobility of senior citizens can be substantially improved. Further, it should be noted that the mentioned group of people needs to be paid more attention in the future, because nowadays they live longer and they are more physically active. In addition, the social responsibility of the population should be strengthened and arising problems should be solved together with relatives, the retirement home and the municipal authority.Iris ZerzMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Transport und Verkeh
Infotainment : Bestandteil der Kommunikation mit den Stakeholdern eines Projektes
Communicating with people is the main activity in our daily lives, as well as in pro-jects. Numerous techniques and methods about how to communicate have al-ready been developed by communication experts and used in practice. But is communication as it is today insufficient to be successful in projects? This thesis discusses how the communication among the stakeholders of a project can be designed by using different Infotainment approaches. The purpose of this diploma thesis is to provide multiple approaches based on Infotainment how this communi-cation could be designed. The information for this thesis is provided by scientific literature and the empirical data of nine experts, three experienced project owners, project managers and pro-ject team members, which statements are going to be compared. Research showed that according to the success factors of projects, communica-tion is one of the top five factors that determines the project’s success and there-fore necessary to be planned, controlled and monitored regularly during the pro-ject. Regarding the design of project stakeholder communication, results show that it should focus on a specific target group and should be more informal, easy to understand and less focused on information but on entertainment instead. The goal therefore is to ensure that the recipients ‘willingly’ consume these information. Other design approaches are the exhibition of a visual recognition value, which means that the project logo or the project name should be easy to remember and meaningful. Furthermore, the language used by the project core team should be different from the language used when communicating with the stakeholders of a project. The recommendation of this thesis’ author is that Infotainment, within the project communication, should be used additionally to the already established communi-cation. This implies that using these Infotainment approaches does not mean re-placing current communication methods, processes and tools.Katharina ForsterMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Projektmanagemen
Change Management als Erfolgsfaktor bei der Einführung eines ERP-Systems
The implementation of an ERP system could be defined as a complex project related to profound changes. In order to provide governance and coordinate emerging changes, proper management is crucial. A deviating approach from the norm would be that ERP consultants accept sole responsibility for change management. The purpose of this paper is to describe how ERP consultants could help and support affected people in relation with change management. Furthermore, to elaborate the impact associated with the takeover of change management. A literature research was used to gain theoretical findings. Additionally, an empirical research consisting of a qualitative method formed the basis of the thesis. As part of the data collection, eight experts conducted interviews to get the relevant data for the thesis from ERP project managers. Once the data was collected, it was analyzed by using the qualitative content analysis after Mayring. The findings of the research make it clear, that the focus of ERP consultants is rather on technical than organizational changes. Nevertheless, communication related to change management plays a decisive role. Especially, the focus on the key user and providing the right customer service is vital. The role and responsibility of ERP project manager to implement change management depends on the following factors, the size of the project, competencies in unfamiliar organizations, additional costs and time as well as traceability of benefits. Finally, there are a few ways to support the customer in the context of change management, but a differentiated understanding among the stakeholders predominates. Certainly, the ERP consultants look at change management as a task, which needs to be achieved and assigned by customers.Christopher BilekMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaf
The International Political Economy of the United States of America and China
The International Political Economy is the platform in which all nations interact. Given the level and scope of the innumerable dissimilarities existing in each nation’s policies and strategies, this renders the International Political Economy a multiplex platform. This in turn additionally renders the International Political Economy as a compulsive field for research. However studying the International Political Economy with regards to all nations would be an intricate exercise. Moreover given the certitude that not all countries are equal within the purview of the International Political Economy, an analysis with regards to the subject matter referencing global powers within the sphere of the International Political Economy makes for a more germane study. What better global powers are there to analyse within the scope of the International Political Economy other than the United States of America and China? These two nations are the economic behemoths of this day and age. Their global position, military strength, sheer size and economic supremacy entail levels of political influence that renders them relevant to the International Political Economy. Both China and the United States of America directly influence the status quo within the International Political Economy. Therefore it is only befitting to analyse the International Political Economy with regards to the United States of America and China. More interestingly it is of relevance to scrutinise, within the gamut of the International Political Economy, the sequel and consequence to the rest of the world stemming from political and economic decisions and policy choices of both China and the United States of America. This thesis stems to do just that.Munyaradzi Joseph BamuMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 201
David vs. Goliath!
A changing business environment and increasing competition drives companies to think about new strategies to ensure survival and to achieve competitive advantage. This paper analyses asymmetric strategic alliances and the influence on the performance of the alliance partners. In particular it will be analysed if there is a positive influence from the bigsized company on the smallsized company and how both partners can profit from the formation of an asymmetric strategic alliance. The results of a comparable case analysis in four asymmetric strategic alliances in the pharmaceutical industry show in general a positive influence on the alliance partners. Furthermore it can be concluded that smallsized companies are dependent on the partnership with a bigsized company and due to increased cooperation, advantages for both partners can be generated.
Despite many struggles in society and attempts by politics we are still far from being a gender-equal society in western, industrialized nations. The reasons for the ongoing inequality between men and women are manifold and are deeply rooted in our society’s perception of what constitutes men and women as such. This thesis discusses two main con-cepts in the field of women’s and men’s studies, namely the “Theory of Sexual Difference” and within the realm of masculinity studies, Connell’s “Theory of Hegemonic Masculinity”. Both concepts are put in relation to the current measures implemented by three Austrian companies that serve as case examples. By analyzing their concepts on how to promote women in their organizations and how to reconcile demands of their employees’ private and professional lives it is possible to determine whether they tend to follow the traditional way and focus their gender-equality measures exclusively on women, therefore applying the recommendations by the strategic concept of “thinking the difference”, or if they include both genders in promoting gender quality and put emphasis on improving the work-life balance of their staff as a whole, for example by improving the balance between family and career. The latter approach suggests a move towards a more modern perception of gender roles per se and a turn away from the hegemonic type of masculinity (men being regarded as the sole breadwinner of the family), by allowing and promoting alternative models for the male gender roles, e.g. the caring masculinities. In the past gender equality policies have been regarded purely as an issue concerning women, lately however also men have been taking into account and have become increasingly the subjects of gender policies within society and political institutions such as the European Union.Sonja SchörgenhoferMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaftslehr
