Internationalisierungspotentiale in Kolumbien – Exportinitiierung kolumbianischer Unternehmen in die Europäische Union
The given paper analyses the process of export initiation of Colombian companies towards the European Union. The first section intends to explain the theoretical background of internationalization and export initiation of enterprises. It describes forms and interpretations of internationalization as well as different foreign market entry modes, finally focusing on the main topic – export. The main theoretical part looks at the results of different studies addressing the topic of export initiation, which comprises motives, barriers and triggers of export. To provide the reader with a general background there is also a section addressing Colombia and its economy, its main social problems as well as the free trade agreement with the European Union. Finally, an empirical study among Colombian companies was conducted. The study focuses on two parts of export initiation. Firstly, it looks at the possible influence of previous international experiences on export initiation towards the European Union. Secondly, it studies the difference between the perception of barriers among companies that already export and those that still not export to the EU. Further aspects of the study are the importance of motives and export triggers for Colombian companies for exporting to the EU.Martina WabinMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaftslehr
Global Governance: Naivität, Idealismus oder eine realis-tische Alternative zu den Vereinten Nationen?
This work aims to provide a broad picture of the global governance structure by considering all parts that belong to the field of that subject area. As there is still no general definition of global governance it is necessary to take a closer look to the theoretical aspects of international relations to figure out the foundations of the global governance concept. Due to the strong correlation to globalization, the different dimensions of the globalization process need to be described to find out about the driving forces of global governance and its predecessor programs. There are some key approaches to the global governance concept, including Rosenau’s “Governance without Government”, the Commission on Global Governance and the INEF concept which depict basic ideas but also different angles of global governance. In order to understand the structure of global governance it is not only necessary to examine the main characteristics of the concept but also to have a look at the critique, the barriers and the challenges which are included in global governance. The United Nations Organization has been the central piece of global governance since World War II and is regarded as the main actor within the structure. Despite its position, the UN faces some severe struggles which need to be resolved in order to maintain a strong position in world politics. The main question of this study is whether global governance is just a theoretical idealistic concept or a realistic alternative to the United Nations.Jasmine FeketeMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Politikwissenschaf

Soziale Kompetenzen im Projektmanagement unter dem Aspekt Gender in der österreichischen IT-Branche
Social competencies are becoming more and more important in the business world. Furthermore in a lot of job advertisements social competencies are frequently demanded from applicants. Surveys showed that the importance of social competencies is getting higher in the field of project management too. The purpose of this paper is to provide an insight into the expectations of the project staff concerning the social competencies of a project manager in the Austrian IT Service sector. This paper also shows if there are some existing differences between female and male project collaborators concerning their expectations. The empirical data of this paper were obtained by using interviews with experienced project collaborators, three female and three male, who are working as members in their respective project teams in the IT Service sector. The empirical data confirms that social competencies are becoming more important in the project management area. In addition to that no real differences between female and male project collaborators concerning their expectations could be determined. Further research should use a larger sample to confirm and generalize these findings. The paper gives an overview which dimensions of the social competencies project managers should have to be successful in this working field.Alfred HaidaMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Projektmanagemen

Spannungsfelder des Projektmanagements hinsichtlich Diversität, Generation Y und virtuelle Projektteams
Due to globalization and integration of markets projects are outsourced to international teams. Flexibility, innovation and problem-solving skills are crucial success factors in order to be competitive. For this reason many industries see the solution in having heterogeneous project teams. Dealing with human diversity in the context of institutionalization and of demographic change is becoming increasingly important. Additionally Generation Y occurs as non-negligible factor in terms of labor market. As a result of demographic change the power constellation has tranformed. Shortages of labour, an increase of competition and specific expectations of Generation Y have complicated employee retention. Diversity, Generation Y and virtual project teams challenge Project Management. The question is which tensions exists between Diversity, Generation Y and virtual project teams concerning Project Management, and how these tensions could be solved. To answer this question the relevant information of open literature of all three topics were extracted and interviews with experts were done. The interviews were analyzed and compared with the aspects of tensions between Diversity, Generation Y and virtual project teams concerning Project Management. Despite the opinion that there are no tensions, the result of the paper is that firstly there are tensions between all three topics regarding conflicts and culture. Secondly there is a tension between Generation Y, Diversity and highly standardized Project Management, due to Project Management will not be able to respond to new challenges. Proven methods will not be applicable to Generation Y. The idea of diversity, having heterogeneity to gain more flexibility and knowledge, is contrary to homogeneous Project Management, which is easier to be managed. All tensions can be overcome by situational leadership and conflict management. This will help to be able to respond to new challenges. Beside that intercultural skills and the agile methodology are recommended.Valerie WurzingerMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Projektmanagemen
Ratings und deren Einfluss auf Marktteilnehmer
This thesis gives an overview on the topic of ratings, the problem of the independency of credit ratings agencies and their impact on market participants. The relationship between the rating agencies and their customers is normally a long-term relationship and therefore it is important to ensure that audit opinions are independent and trustworthy, because many different categories of rating users must rely on the assigned rating. To prepare a neutral rating is the most important requirement for a credit rating agency. The first part of the thesis refers to the historical development of credit ratings and the areas of responsibility of rating agencies and banks. The focus will be set on the rating process in general and how the rating process works in practice based on the examples of Bank Austria AG and Erste Group Bank AG. In the second part, the effects of the financial crisis on the creation of a new regulatory framework and the European supervision are discussed. It is also questioned whether the ratings had an influence on the deepening of the economic crisis and what practical consequences the states affected had to face. Finally, the alternatives to the existing three major rating agencies, Standard& Poors, Moody´s and Fitch are identified and the possibilities of establishing them in the market are dicussed. In this part the focus will also be on the question of the liability of the agencies towards investors and the quality of the given ratings in general.Edin MaksumicMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Volkswirtschaftslehr

Behavioral Finance : home bias and foreign bias in equity markets and their link to cross-cultural characteristics
The field of behavioral economics and finance has gained more importance in the previous years. The investors need to consider the psychological aspect of behavior of the other participants. This paper focuses on the introduction of several behavioral biases and it specifically discusses the home bias and the foreign bias. A quantitative measurement of the equity bias in the period from 2001 to 2012 in the selected countries is presented via two methods. The home bias coefficients seem to be stagnating or even growing in the recent years according to the data used for the analysis.
Furthermore, the thesis attempts to identify the cultural reasons behind the bias. The study reveals a relationship between the Individualism and the Power Distance dimensions designed by Hofstede. The results imply the culture is indeed one of the factors affecting the investors’ decisions regarding the diversification.Diplomarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 201
How to improve competitive advantage by usage of shippers’ selection criteria – a study of the Austrian road freight market
