    Get PDF
This study was carried out to assess the relationship of ego-resiliency with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in mature survivors of the Bam earthquake. This research is an ex post facto (causal-comparative and correlational) study. 607 adult (304 males, 303 females) survivors of the Bam earthquake in Iran, selected through convenience sampling, participated in this research. All the participants completed the Mississippi Scale for PTSD, Connor-Davidson Resiliency Scale (CD-RIS), and Demographic Characteristic Questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse data in the current study. This study aimed to assess the relationship of ego-resiliency with PTSD in mature survivors of the Bam earthquake by using multiple regression analysis. We found that ego-resiliency has the criteria to enter regression analysis as a predictive variable for determining the change in PTSD. This variable could significantly predict PTSD in our study. The present study has defined ego-resiliency as coping successfully with stressful factors and hardships. Ego-resiliency is a person’s capability to create a bio-psycho-spiritual balance in the face of trauma, and it is a kind of self-repair accompanied by positive emotional and cognitive outcomes. Concerning the side effects of disasters, evidence shows that negative events can have negative outcomes, such as PTSD. At present, there are many studies on the various negative changes that a person undergoes after confronting psychologically negative events. Theoretically, several factors, such as evaluation method and adaptive reactions, factors related to the trauma, as well as personal and situational factors are involved in curbing the occurrence of PTSD

    Get PDF
The pathogens Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae are often involved in urinary tract infections (UTIs), which are common, especially in children. Due to their association with antibiotic resistance, which makes treatment tactics more difficult, the presence of the bla OXA-48 and bla IMP genes in these bacteria is essential. To detect two resistant genes, bla OXA-48 and bla IMP, in Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli and to detect the variant genes by sequencing for each bacterium. In all, one hundred urine samples from children with UTIs were investigated. Using molecular techniques and gene sequencing, the isolates were tested for antibiotic resistance, ESBL phenotypic detection, and bla OXA-48 and bla IMP gene identification. The SPSS software was used to do the statistical analysis. K. pneumoniae and E. coli, the two most common isolates, exhibit significant rates of resistance to commonly used antibiotics. Genesbla OXA-48 was present in 92.3% of E. coli isolates and 100% of K. pneumoniae isolates, and bla IMP was present in 43.1% of E. coli isolates and 25.7% of K. pneumoniae isolates. The amplified blaIMP-1 sequences of E. coli and K. pneumoniae did not show any nucleic acid variation in the samples under analysis. While the results of the alignment of the amplified bla OXA samples with K.pneumoniaeand E. coli revealed the existence of two nucleic acid variations referring to reference nucleic acid sequences of K. pneumoniae and E. coli, respectively. The study shows that K. pneumoniae and E. coli both have significant levels of the bla OXA-48 and bla IMP genes. To prevent the spread of bacteria that cause antibiotic-resistant UTIs in children’s populations, our results emphasise the need for increased surveillance and monitoring of antibiotic regimens

    Get PDF
This research attempts to assess the current knowledge and practices of students and teachers regarding the use of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) in urban secondary schools of Islamabad. In the context of secondary school English learning, the study specifically examines the use of SRL strategies employed by low-achieving students in their learning endeavours and the role of teachers in promoting SRL among their students. It is a mixed-methods approach that combines qualitative data from structured interviews with quantitative evaluation through a rubric-based scoring system. A total of 40 low-achieving students and 20 English teachers from 10 randomly selected schools participated in the study. The low achievers scored poorly across all six SRL domains, showing significant deficiencies in using SRL strategies. Teacher interviews indicated that while lesson planning was somewhat effective, there were notable gaps in providing guidance for homework and guidance for improving students\u27 performance. These findings emphasise the need for targeted interventions to enhance SRL among low-achieving students and highlight the importance of professional development for teachers to support student self-regulation better. This study calls for comprehensive SRL integration into student learning strategies and teacher training to improve academic outcomes in English learning at the secondary level in Islamabad
