Social Impact of Solar Photovoltaic Systems in Kailak Locality, South Kordofan State
This study was carried out to assess the social impact of photovoltaic solar
systems in Kailak Locality, South Kordofan State. Simple stratified random sampling
was used to obtain a sample size of 252 respondents in six villages targeted by the
Community Development Fund (CDF) project as solar villages in Kailak Locality.
Primary data were collected by face-to- face interviewing, using a comprehensive
household questionnaire. With the aid of the computerized Statistical Package for Social
Sciences (SPSS), simple descriptive statistics was used to describe the different variables
of the study. The main results reflected, that in villages using the photovoltaic systems,
there was (a) increase in communities’ awareness about world events and news, (b)
improvement in the academic performance of students, (c) improvement in the working
environment for the health workers, hence they stay longer and (d) lighting of police
stations and streets, resulting in tremendous impact on security. The study suggested the
following recommendations:- (a) periodical maintenance of the installed PV systems by
the government and the community and (b) training of community members as
technicians in PV systems design, installation and maintenance to support the
sustainability of electricity supply
Assessment and Mapping of Wind Erodibility of Aridisols and Entisols in the River Nile State, Sudan
Wind erodibility (WE) is a major determinant of wind erosion under a given
climatic condition. This study is part of a national project for assessing and mapping of
wind erodibility in Sudan. It was undertaken to generate WE data for the River Nile
State. Three replicate surface soil samples were collected, randomly, from fifty georeferenced
farms spread in the State, and non-erodible soil particles (NEP > 0.84 mm)
and selected soil properties were measured using standard procedures. The mean NEP
values ranged from 4.3% to 98.1% with an overall mean coefficient of variation of
replicate determinations equal to 7.4%. The equivalent WE ranged from 0.0 to 470.4
ton/ha. The results showed a highly significant (P ≤ 0.001) power increase of NEP with
increase of clay (C), CaCO3 and organic matter (OM), and decrease with increase of sand
and sand plus silt (S+Si) expressed, successively, as ratios of clay, clay plus OM and clay
plus CaCO3. The reverse trends were obtained for the relations of WE and the various
soil properties and their ratios. Clay, (Si+S)/C, (Si+S)/(C+OM) and (Si+S)/(C+CaCO3)
accounted for 72%, 72%, 72% and 73% of the variation of NEP, and 69%, 68%, 68% and
69% of the variation of WE. Multiple regressions relationships of NEP or WE with clay,
sand, CaCO3 and OM gave coefficients of determinations equal to 65% and 69%,
respectively. Thus, it is recommended that clay or (Si+S)/ (C+CaCO3) should be used for
predicting NEP, and the standard table should be used to get the equivalent WE. A table
for wind erodibility groups was developed
Assessment of Genetic Diversity and Adaptability of Inbred Lines and their F1- hybrids of Grain Maize (Zea mays L.), Using Molecular Markers (RAPD) and AMMI Analysis
This study was carried out to assess the genetic diversity and adaptability of seven
inbred lines of grain maize (Zea mays L.) and their F1-hybrids, using molecular markers
(RAPD) and Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction (AMMI), respectively.
A field experiment was carried out during the winter and summer of 2009 and 2010 at
two locations, Shambat and Elrawakeeb. A split-plot design with three replications was
used to layout the experiment. The inbred lines and their F1-hybrids were field-evaluated
for grain yield/ha under normal irrigation and water-stress conditions. The DNA
molecular markers (RAPD) analysis showed that high level of polymorphism of 89.33
percent was detected among the genotypes, which were distinguished into four main
groups (sub-clusters). The genetic distance among inbred lines ranged from 0.05 to 0.33.
The inbred line 66y was the most distant line compared to other inbred lines; it represents
a single group in the cluster. The inbred lines 66y and 160 had the greatest genetic
distance of 0.31. AMMI analysis differentiated the genotypes (inbred lines and F1-
hybrids), based on their interaction to different environments, into diversified adaptation
pattern. The hybrid 160x66y showed the highest (4.1 tons/ha) grain yield (highest
heterosis) and a moderate positive interaction (PCA score = 19.0), indicating its
adaptability to favorable environments. Moreover, the hybrid 66y×3 showed considerable
yield (2.4 ton/ha) and adaptation to water stress environments. These results revealed that
crossing of the most genetically-distant inbred lines (e.g., hybrid 160x66y) gave the
highest heterosis, which could be utilized for improvement of grain yield of maize. Also,
it could be concluded that DNA markers were efficient in the assessment of genetic
diversity to identify the most appropriate inbred lines of maize for development of hybrid
varieties, and then avoiding crosses between genetically-related inbred lines. Also AMMI
analysis was successful to quantify the interaction and adaptability of the tested
genotypes to wide range of environments

Prediction Of Blue Nile Profile Using Artificial Intelligence Technique
Prediction Of Blue Nile Profile Using Artificial Intelligence TechniqueArtificial NeuraL Networks (ANNs) Are computational models broadly inspired by the organization of the human brain. The Most important features of aneural network are its abilities to learn, to process and to make models for all input data, to produce an output with error tolerant according to the error of supplied input. In This study, ANNs Are used for classification and of soil propertieat different depths in Khartoum Blue Nile area. This Study used 38 % Of the available sites investigation data (data Of 21 sites) as input data to predict the rest data (data Of 34 sites), about 62 % Of total collected data. Seventeen Models of Neural Networks are constructed and developed to predict soil layers and to estimate some soil parameters in specified locations in Khartoum Blue Nile area, the results indicate Neural Networks is a useful technique to make relationships between the input parameters of the three dimensional coordinates and the outputs of soil classification prediction and some soil parameter in specified studied area. this paper shows that Artificial Neural Networks have the ability to predict the soil classification and soil parameters in the Blue Nile Area of Khartoum with an acceptable degree of accuracy
