DESIGN A FAST DIGITAL PROTECTIVE RELAY ALGORITHM FOR HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSMISSION LINE
Modeling of protective relays is economical and feasible alternative to investigate the performance of relays and protection systems. This paper presents a new approach for MHO Relay Algorithm in MATLAB based on Fast Fourier Transform Algorithm (FFT) which can estimate exact magnitude of DC offset component and completely eliminates it from operating quantities during faults and also makes use of smoothing window to filter out noise if any. The proposed Numerical Algorithm performance is tested on simulated transmission line of Merowe-Atbara 500 KV, 50 Hz, and 236.7 Km using data generated by PSCAD/EMTDC. The proposed MHO algorithm evaluated by using MATLAB to models a power system and simulates many fault conditions on a selected transmission line such as different Fault locations, resistances with various fault angles. Heterosis and Combining Abilities for Yield and Quality Traits in Forage Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench]
This study was conducted to estimate the magnitude of heterosis and combining
abilities (general and specific) for forage yield and quality characters of forage sorghum
[Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench]. Five exotic cytoplasmic male sterile lines of forage
sorghum were crossed with 11 fertile local inbred lines, as testers, to produce 55 F1-hybrids.
Both parental lines and their F1-hybrids were field-evaluated for yield and quality traits at
four environments. These environments were Shambat summer 2007, Shambat winter 2007,
Ed-Duiem summer 2008 and Ed-Duiem winter 2008. The magnitudes of mid-parent
(MPH%), better-parent (BPH%) and standard (STH%) heterosis were estimated. Also, line
× tester analysis was performed to estimate general (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining
abilities among parental lines as well as F1-hybrids. The results revealed high estimates of
heterosis for forage fresh and dry yields. The predominance of additive gene effect was high
for forage fresh and dry yields, whereas there was predominance of non-additive gene effect
for most of the quality traits. For forage fresh and dry yields, the testers exhibited higher
contribution to the GCA variance than the lines. The best general combiners for forage yield
were Aklamoi and Kambal among testers and Atlas and E.Sumac among lines. Lines
E.Sumac and Blue Ribbon and testers Wad Ahmed and S.42ANK were the best general
combiners for forage quality traits. The highest SCA effect for forage yield was given by the
hybrid E.Sumac x Aklamoi. Therefore, based on the GCA results, it is concluded that the
most suitable parental lines for improving forage yield are Aklamoi and Kambal among
testers and E.Sumac and Atlas among lines. However, Wad Ahmed and S.42ANK from
testers and E.Sumac and Blue Ribbon from lines are the most appropriate ones for
improving forage quality
Ostrich Farming
The ostrich is the world's largest living bird. It is very adaptable and can thrive under
extreme conditions, Ostriches may be found in a variety of open habitats: Semi-arid, open
and short-grass plains. They are also able to thrive in very poorly vegetated areas. It has
remarkable tolerance to heat, withstanding air temperatures of 56°C without undue stress.
Wild ostriches live for about 35 years and domesticated birds for 45 to 50 years. The
weight of the mature bird (one-year-old) is on average 100 to 120 kg. Originally,
ostriches were known for their feathers, but since 1970 ostrich skins became the major
source of income. It is considered one of the most luxurious leathers, and some even
place it on a par with crocodile and snake skin. Ostrich leather is thick, durable and
extremely soft and can be manufactured into a variety of products, such as shoes, bags,
purses and jackets. More recently, ostrich meat became popular because of its health
benefits; it has almost no fat, low cholesterol and is rich in protein and iron. The greater
focus on a healthy lifestyle is causing a growing demand for ostrich meat worldwide and
South Africa is normally the main supplier. Currently the income from ostrich products is
leather (50%–70%), meat (30%- 45%) and feathers (5%-15%)
Role of Domestic Livestock Marketing System in Promotion of Livestock Exports
The domestic livestock marketing system in Sudan is traditional and, managed and
financed by the private sector. With the exception of 11 livestock markets built in 1980s by
Livestock and Meat Marketing Corporation and recently the group of 6 markets built by the
improving production marketing project, the majority of livestock markets are no more than
an open space with no installation or facilities. The continuous expansion of huge domestic
demand for meat and the government desire to maximize exports earnings, revealed that the
system has some signs of deficiencies and inefficiency and reached its upper limit beyond
which can hardly cope with further demand. For the system to cope with the changing
circumstances, the constraints imposed on it need to be removed. Among these constraints
are the traditional method of production coupled with the nomad selling attitude and the
exogenous factors affecting its performance, the fragmentation of domestic livestock market
coupled with local authorities intervention, the inadequate physical infrastructure, absence
of regulating laws , capital starvation throughout the system, the present selling and buying
methods, lack of weighing scales, absence of market information system, absence of a
central regulating body, multiple taxation, high cost and difficulties in transport and high
feed prices and above all the absence of strategy for development of the whole system.
Lesson learned from the previously liquidated LMMC and the existing ARSCo should be
considered; however there is an urgent need and the government should take quick positive
actions to solve these well-known constraints. Otherwise, the inefficiencies in the internal
market performance will badly harm the producers, the consumers, operators and most
importantly will impede any efforts to enhance the external competition necessary for
pushing the exports for achievement of the nation goal
Assessment and Mapping of the Status and Inherent Risk of Wind Erosion in the Northern Parts of the River Atbara Locality, Kassala State
Combination of remote sensing technique and direct measurements were used to
assess and map the status and inherent risk of wind erosion and to compare different
methods used. Remote sensing technique showed that the study area was moderately
affected by wind erosion. The use of percentage coverage by gravels, as an indicator of
status, showed that three of the four studied sites were slightly affected by wind erosion.
However, this method failed to assess the status of the fourth site which was free of
gravel but contained sand dunes. This result is not applicable in eroded sites that do not
expose surface gravel. The use of soil erodibility, as determined by aggregates greater
than 0.84, and applying class limits suggested by Chepil (1960), showed that the inherent
risk of site one was negligible and that of site two was slight, while those of site three and
inter-dunes of site four were moderate. This method proved to be compatible with the
remote sensing technique for identifying the status of wind erosion in the four studied
sites. Using mean annual wind speed as an indicator of wind erosivity and applying
FAO/UNEP (1984) class limits, the whole area had a moderate inherent risk of wind
erosion. However, lack of differences between sites was due to the occurrence of only
one data point representing the whole area including the four sites. In conclusion, remote
sensing technique is reliable for large-scale wind erosion studies. However, some

Response of New Zealand Rabbits to Drinking Water Treated with Alum and PolyDADMAC
PolyDADMAC (Polydiallyl-Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride) and Alum
(Aluminium Sulphate) were the chemical agents used for potable water flocculation in
Khartoum State. The response of New Zealand rabbits to drinking water treated with
alum and polyDADMAC in terms of serum changes in electrolytes was studied. Six New
Zealand rabbits of balanced sexes were purchased, clinically adapted for two weeks and
divided into 2 groups, control (group 1) and test ( group 2). The test group was orally
given a dose of 1% polyDADMAC and 1% alum in a blend ratio of 1:2, respectively, for
an experimental period of 10 weeks. Test chemicals blend was similar to the dose applied
by Khartoum Water Plant, during flood season, for human consumption. Sera were
analyzed for electrolytes prior to the experiment and, thereafter, at weekly intervals.
Serum calcium, phosphorus, iron and magnesium levels showed remarkable (P≤ 0.01 -
0.001) decreases compared to the control, the fact which can be attributed to the hepatic
damage induced by test chemicals. Sodium and potassium levels were not determined.
The test group had significantly (P≤ 0.01) low iron that can be attributed to the direct
effect of alum. Intestinal wall with spotted white colour (probably due to alum causing
focal enteritis), was greatly affected with the irritant alum and/or its metabolites. When
the ion-exchanged resin was used to remove poisons from water, it precipitated by alum.
It is more apt to gripe; the salt intensifies the action of resin and hence produces the
hydragogue effect. This action was very clear in the congested mesenteric blood vessels
and was symptomatically manifested by diarrhoea and salivation due to nausea. Alum
and polyDADMAC which are currently used in potable water treatment in Khartoum
State, proved toxic to New Zealand rabbits in terms of changes in electrolytes coupled
with enteropathies
