Olanzapine in the treatment of anorexia nervosa: a systematic review

    No full text
Anorexia nervosa, with the highest mortality rate among psychiatric diseases, is characterized by low body mass index, fear of weight gain, and disturbed body image. Even though multiple drugs have been proposed for the treatment of anorexia nervosa, current treatment modalities include nutritional support and psychotherapy. In this study, our aim is to analyze the efficiency and possible adverse effects of olanzapine, an atypical anti-psychotic drug, in the treatment of anorexia nervosa. The studies investigating the efficiency and possible adverse effects of olanzapine in anorexia nervosa have been searched by using 3 databases (Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane Library). DerSimonian-Laird random effects meta-analyses have been used in the statistical analysis. Effect of olanzapine treatment in accordance with the duration and dosage of drug have been analyzed by the determination of 95% confidence intervals (pvalue < 0.05 is considered as statistically significant). Despite the presence of some contradictory studies, olanzapine treatment has been found beneficial in anorexia nervosa. In addition, analysis reveals that statistically significant beneficial effect of olanzapine treatment is used at high doses and for short duration. Possible side effects include neuroleptic malignant syndrome, hypoglycemia, and heart block in patients suffering from anorexia nervosa. Even though there is obvious need for more comprehensive further studies, current literature favors olanzapine treatment. The efficiency of olanzapine is considered to be related to changes in dopaminergic and serotonergic system in anorexic patients both in terms of neurotransmitter levels and receptor activity

Computational fluid dynamics modeling of surface condensation

    No full text
This study experimentally and numerically investigates the condensation problem, which is one of the most important problems in chilled ceiling application. In a wide range of applications, including air-conditioning, drying, food storage, airflow contact with surface and heat transfer occurs with a fluid through this surface. Since heat transfer is influenced by the movement of both airflow and this fluid, it is important to solve a temperature field as well as a velocity field in all heating, cooling and ventilation applications. Commercial package programs, which have been widely used in recent years, have become "user-friendly" design tools that make it possible to find "location- and time-dependent" distributions of temperature. Since these programs solve the "mass transport" equation in addition to the "momentum" and "energy" equations, it makes it easy to examine the "moist air" which constitutes the scope of psychrometry. However, the "condensation on the cold surface" encountered in most HVAC-R applications cannot be simulated directly with these programs. In order to introduce the phase changes to this program, the user must write additional codes. In this study, the "user-defined function" module of Ansys-Fluent (R) program was used to introduce the condensation to the program in terms of psychrometrics. In the study, which was compared with experimental results, psychrometric equations were added as source term to mass transport and energy equation. As a result, in the context of mass transport-energy balance relationship, it is possible to predict the psychrometric critical values before the design by computational methods

Recovery of heavy metals from canola (Brassica napus) and soybean (Glycine max) biomasses using electrochemical process

    No full text
Phytoextraction is defined as a process during which the heavy metals, causing soil contamination, are conveyed to the green parts of the plant through roots and are accumulated there. However, the main problem after phytoextraction is that because of accumulation of metal ions by plants are defined as secondary contaminants and classified as hazardous wastes since they include an excessive amount of metal. Hence, how to use plant waste after phytoextraction is still a challenge that remains to be solved. In this study, canola (Brassica napus) and soybean (Glycine max) were used for remediation of soils contaminated with heavy metals (Cd, Pb and Zn). Two different extraction methods were used to dissolve heavy metals in waste biomass. The extraction method, in which the highest efficiency was obtained, was used an electrochemical method in order to remove recover toxic metals from the biomass of canola (B. napus) and soybean (G. max) plants, harvested after phytoextraction process. Firstly, the heavy metal ions were transferred into the solution from biomass. Then these toxic metal ions were precipitated electrochemically within 2 h. Thus, the toxic ions, causing contamination, were transformed directly into metallic form by reducing the concentration (metal recovery). It was obtained electrochemical removal efficiencies of 80% for Cd, 94% for Pb and 68% for Zn in the solution of soybean biomass while they were 97% for Cd, 99% for Pb and 46% for Zn in the solution of canola biomass. HEEL: A new clustering method to improve wireless sensor network lifetime

    No full text
In wireless sensor networks, some resources such as memory and energy are limited. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in improving network lifetime. Node energy plays an important role in the network lifetime. Along with this remarkable growth in wireless sensor networks, however, there is an increasing concern over network lifetime. The principal purpose of this study is to develop an understanding of the effects of other parameters on selecting a cluster head. The methodological approach taken in this study is a mixed methodology typically based on the node's energy. The authors have operated four parameters to select the cluster head: Node energy, the energy of the node's neighbours, number of hops and number of links to neighbours. Each of these parameters has an impact in selecting the cluster head. They accurately observed hop size, energy of each sensor node, average energy of sensor neighbours, links to sensor nodes (HEEL) has better improvements in comparison of Node ranked Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (Nr-LEACH), Modified Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (ModLEACH), Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy-B (LEACH-B), Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH), Power-Efficient Gathering in Sensor Information System (PEGASIS), energy-aware clustering scheme with transmission power control for sensor networks (EACLE) and hybrid energy efficient distributed clustering (HEED) algorithms in possible case of network lifetime and throughput

This study was performed to determine the effects of chitosan-coated nano-propolis (NP), which is synthesized via a green sonochemical method, and propolis on the side effects of cisplatin (CP), which is a widely used drug in the treatment of cancer. For this aim, 56 rats were divided into seven groups, balancing their body weights (BW). The study was designed as Control, CP (3 mg/kg BW at single dose of CP as intraperitoneal, ip), Propolis (100 mg/kg BW per day of propolis by gavage), NP-10 (10 mg/kg BW of NP per day by gavage), CP + Propolis (3 mg/kg BW of CP and 100 mg/kg BW of propolis), CP + NP-10 (3 mg/kg CP and 10 mg/kg BW of NP), and CP + NP-30 (3 mg/kg BW of CP and 30 mg/kg BW of NP). Propolis and NP (especially NP-30) were preserved via biochemical parameters, oxidative stress, and activation of apoptotic pathways (anti-apoptotic protein: Bcl-2 and pro-apoptotic protein: Bax) in liver and kidney tissues in the toxicity induced by CP. The NP were more effective than propolis at a dose of 30 mg/kg BW and had the potential to ameliorate CP's negative effects while overcoming serious side effects such as liver and kidney damage

Calculation of Magnetization and Magnetic Susceptibility Close to Magnetic Phase Transitions in (CH3)(2)(NH2FeNiII)-Ni-III(HCOO)(6) and (CH3)(2)(NH2FeCuII)-Cu-III(HCOO)(6)

    No full text
We study the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the magnetization (M) and the inverse susceptibility (chi(-1)) in the metal-organic frameworks, in particular, for (CH3)(2)(NH2FeNiII)-Ni-III(HCOO)(6) (DMFeNi) and (CH3)(2)(NH2FeCuII)-Cu-III(HCOO)(6) (DMFeCu) close to their magnetic phase transitions. The Landau phenomenological model is employed to analyze the experimental data for the M(T, H) from the literature and to calculate chi(-1)(T, H) of DMFeNi and DMFeCu. Our results indicate that the thermodynamic model studied explains adequately the observed behavior of M(T, H) for DMFeNi and DMFeCu, which exhibit a weakly first-order (or nearly second order) magnetic phase transition

The crisis experienced in Fordist production in 1970s led to the moving of the industrial sector out of cities, thus causing the transformation of industrial cities into service-based cities. In developed countries, urban transformation is considered as a comprehensive form of restructuring to overcome the problems of post-industrial development as well as the socio-economic and spatial failures caused by the Post-Fordist period. Due to the fact that cities continuously develop, the transformation and the reuse of abandoned industrial areas has become critical for cities. New spatial structuring efforts began in cities where industry moved away. In cities where industry was located in the city center due to the city's manufacturing-focused character, abandoned industrial areas began to transform due to the need for new urban areas. Former industrial areas are the "potential new functional areas" for cities that strive to keep pace with globalization. Since the Ottoman Empire, Istanbul has been a center where industrial facilities were established. However, industrial facilities in the city center have been decentralized since 1970s due to various issues, and these industrial areas have gone under transformation. Since 1970s, due to its advantageous transportation, the vicinity of TEM and E-5 highways was one of the popular destinations for industrial facilities that left the city center. The Basin Ekspres Route, built in 1980s to connect TEM and E-5, caused rapid landuse changes in the area. The purpose of this study is to investigate the development and transformation of industry along the Basin Ekspres Route and the dynamics behind these processes. The development and transformation of industry along the route was examined in 5 periods (namely before 1980, between 1980-1990, between 1990-2000, between 2000-2010 and after 2010) by using base maps. In addition, the dynamics behind these processes were revealed with help of the findings collected from primary and secondary sources. According to the findings of the study, industrialization in the area began in 1970s and gained momentum after 1980s. Over time, the route remained in the center of the city, and the population in its vicinity increased; thus, in 2000s, the decentralization of industry in the area was initiated with various master plans and numerous residential, office and hotel projects were implemented in this region. On the other hand, the operation of non-polluting industrial activities are allowed in some areas of the Bagcilar District, which lies on the east of the route. Thus, both the demand and the potential for production still remain in the area. In this respect, the Basin Ekspres Route and its surroundings have the appearance of both an industrial and a post-industrial city

Postmodern discourse in digital advertising: A study on "Deneysel Bankacilik" advertising series

    No full text
In the postmodern world, ads try to establish an emotional bond between the consumer and the storytelling instead of a classic "Buy it!" expression. One of the most used methods of storytelling in terms of advertising in social media is viral advertising. Viral advertising makes an effort to attract attention to the brand in social media, sometimes by showing the brand, sometimes with an implicit expression. In this study, the process of advertising taking place in the digitalized world and the transition from modern marketing to postmodern marketing will be examined. In the case of "Deneysel bankacilik, " the use of postmodern marketing in digital advertising will be evaluated. © 2021, IGI Global
