    Gendering Turkish Action Films in the Post-2010 Period: "Hey boy, protect me and don't cry!"

    This study investigates how the post-2010 Turkish action films portray men. Popular cinema positions all other sexual identities as secondary and often Other than (hegemonic) masculinity. In this context, this study examines masculinity in the centre of the narrative in the Turkish action films. The sample of the study consists of three action films with high production and box office hit in Turkey from 2010 to the present day, Kaos: Orumcek Agi (Chaos: Spider Web, 2012), cakal (The Jackal, 2010) and Panzehir (Antidote, 2014). Thus, the relationship between masculinity representations in Turkish mainstream action films and reality is discussed. In this study, the male characters can be categorized either fearless to sacrifice themselves for their family and nationality or negative subject men who never have characteristics that are not approved by the society. While there are almost no women in the narratives of these films, it can be classified that Turkish action films, as films that completely reflect the men's world and become womanless

    Calculation of the Liquid-Solid Phase Diagram and the Thermodynamic Quantities of the Binary System of Tetradecane and Hexadecane Using the Mean Field Theory

    The T - x phase diagram of a binary system of tetradecane + hexadecane is calculated using the Landau phenomenological model. Expressions derived for the phase lines are fitted to experimental data from the literature and the fitted parameters are determined for the transitions of liquid-solid I, liquid-solid II and solid I-solid II in this binary system. The temperature dependence of the thermodynamic quantities, including the order parameter, susceptibility, enthalpy, entropy, heat capacity, thermal expansion and the isothermal compressibility are predicted for this solid-liquid equilibrium system of tetradecane + hexadecane. It is found that the mean field model developed here describes satisfactorily the observed behavior of the first order transition in the tetradecane + hexadecane system

    Direct Measurement of the Branching Fractions B(psi(3686) -> J/psi X) and B(psi(3770) -> J/psi X), and Observation of the State R(3760) in e(+)e(-) -> J/psi X

    We report a measurement of the observed cross sections of e(+)e(-) -> J/psi X based on 3.21 fb(-1) of data accumulated at energies from 3.645 to 3.891 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider. In analysis of the cross sections, we measured the decay branching fractions of B(psi(3686 -> J/psi X) = (64.4 +/- 0.6 +/- 1.6)% and B(psi(3770) -> J/psi X) = (0.5 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.1)% for the first time. The energy-dependent line shape of these cross sections cannot be well described by two Breit-Wigner (BW) amplitudes of the expected decays psi(3686) -> J/psi X and psi(3770) -> J/psi X. Instead, it can be better described with one more BW amplitude of the decay R(3760) -> J/psi X. Under this assumption, we extracted the R(3760) mass M-R(3760) = 3766.2 +/- 3.8 +/- 0.4 MeV/c(2), total width Gamma(tot)(R(3760)) = 22.2 +/- 5.9 +/- 1.4 MeV, and product of leptonic width and decay branching fraction Gamma(ee)(R(3760)) B[R(3760) -> J/psi X] = (79.4 +/- 85.5 +/- 11.7) eV.     A Critical Discussion on Turkish Students' Thoughts about Syrians over Nation-State Teachings

    This study is mainly based on chats with secondary and high school students. The implicit points in their daily complaints about their Syrian peers in neighborhoods were turned into a problematic for a qualitative survey. The students living in the regions in which generally Syrian immigrants are located account for the research group. The results were based on the analysis of the students' letters they wrote to their Syrian peers in the spring of 2018: 150 letters saluting the young Syrians with "Dear my Syrian Friend" are exposed to a discourse analysis. The theoretical structure drawing classical and contemporary Marxist approaches together argues that the relationship between nation-state ideology and education creates a kind of political socialization in response to the ideal value of "fully-democratic education". The salutations and nationalist statements that the students wrote reveal that not any mechanism of acceptance works. The students accuse the Syrians, particularly young men, of being unfaithful to their own country foremost, and of weakening the economy of the country where they took refuge by being a cheap labor force, behaving inappropriately towards the traditional and moral values, becoming a threat to Turkish language, having high fertility, taking over common spaces and behaving loosely

    AGENCY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SUBSIDIARIES & HEADQUARTERS

    The current study aimed to examine how the agency relationship is affected between subsidiaries and headquarters of Multinational Companies in case the agent is a citizen of the parent country or host country. The research provides evidence from fourteen individual interviews that agency relations are affected by the parties' nationality differences who are working in headquarter and subsidiary. In addition, it was found that the control mechanisms that should be set up for subsidiaries were different from the control mechanisms used in the local environment because of the institutional and cultural differences between home and host country. In some cultures, it was found that agency relations could be based on trust rather than the sanction power of contracts and that the risk perception of agents could change by the culture. Doing business in the international arena causes problems such as exposure to uncertainties, difficulties in adapting to the environment, and discrimination This is explained theoretically with the Liability of Foreigness.     THE PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF R744 TRANSCRITICAL EJECTOR AND R290/R744 CASCADE REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS FOR TURKEY

    In this study, performance of two different environmentally friendly systems with natural refrigerant solutions, R744 transcritical booster system with ejector and a R290/R744 cascade system are examined theoretically by using engineering equation solver software. Operating conditions are determined to represent different climatic regions in Turkey using summer dry bulb temperatures of various cities. The transcritical and the cascade system are assumed to operate at two different evaporation temperatures of -10 degrees C and -32 degrees C. The overall energy efficiency ratio values for each system with respect to the same ambient and evaporation conditions are compared and evaluated. Finally, performance of both systems has been compared and the appropriate solution for each city has been suggested. For cold and mild climate regions of Turkey, the performance of transcritical alternative is found better than the proposed cascade system. Moreover, the performance of transcritical system is observed slightly lower than those of the cascade system in hot climate regions of Turkey such as Aegean, Mediterranean, and South-East Anatolian regions. It is also found that the performance of the transcritical system is better in regions having lower ambient conditions such as near the Black Sea and eastern regions of Turkey. Therefore, for the mild and cold regions of Turkey, the transcritical ejector option is the better alternative due to having higher performance compared to the cascade system

    Measurement of Proton Electromagnetic Form Factors in e(+) e(-) -> p(p)over-bar in the Energy Region 2.00-3.08 GeV

    The process of e(+)e(-) -> p (p) over bar is studied at 22 center-of-mass energy points (root s) from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV, exploiting 688.5 pb(-1) of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section (sigma(p (p) over bar)) of e(+)e(-) -> p (p) over bar is measured with the energy-scan technique and it is found to be consistent with previously published data, but with much improved accuracy. In addition, the electro-magnetic form-factor ratio (vertical bar G(E)/G(M)vertical bar) and the value of the effective (vertical bar G(eff)vertical bar), electric (vertical bar G(E)vertical bar), and magnetic (vertical bar G(M)vertical bar) form factors are measured by studying the helicity angle of the proton at 16 center-of-mass energy points. vertical bar G(E)/G(M)vertical bar and vertical bar G(M)vertical bar are determined with high accuracy, providing uncertainties comparable to data in the spacelike region, and vertical bar G(E)vertical bar is measured for the first time. We reach unprecedented accuracy, and precision results in the timelike region provide information to improve our understanding of the proton inner structure and to test theoretical models which depend on nonperturbative quantum chromodynamics

    A New Practical Intracerebral Hematoma Volume Calculation Method and Comparison to simple ABC/2

    Tulum, Gökalp (Arel Author), Osman, Onur (Arel Author)AIM: To find a more practical and effective formula than simple ABC/2 (sABC/2) to calculate the hematoma volume in patients with subdural and parenchymal haemorrhage. MATERIAL and METHODS: We reviewed the records of 157 patients who underwent brain computed tomography examinations for stroke from January to October 2017. Our method, sABC/2 formula, and the planimetric method (the gold standard) were used for measuring the volumes of hematoma.RESULTS: The concordance in brain hematoma volumes calculated by sABC/2 and the proposed method as compared to planimetry were 0.92 and 0.93, respectively (p<0.05). The proposed method calculates the subdural hematoma volumes much better than the conventional one, and the root mean square error (RMSE) values were 32.17 and 20.62 ml for sABC/2 and our new method, respectively, whereas the RMSE values for parenchymal hematomas were 25.01 and 20.46 ml for sABC/2 and our new method, respectively.CONCLUSION: Our new formula for calculating the volume of subdural and parenchymal hematomas is as practical as sABC/2 and allows the clinician to apply the method bedside

    Observation of the semimuonic decay D+ -> omega mu(+)upsilon(mu)

    We report the first observation of the semimuonic decay D+ -> omega mu(+)upsilon(mu) using an e(+)e(-) collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb(-1) collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV. The absolute branching fraction of the D+ -> omega mu(+)upsilon(mu) decay is measured to be BD+ -> omega mu(+)upsilon mu = (17.7 +/- 1.8(stat) +/- 1.1(syst)) x 10(-4). Its ratio with the world average value of the branching fraction of the D+ -> omega e(+)upsilon(mu) decay probes lepton flavor universality and it is determined to be BD+ -> omega mu(+)upsilon mu/BD+ -> omega mu(+)upsilon e(PDG) = 1.05 +/- 0.14, in agreement with the standard model expectation within one standard deviation

    Living in the moment for people approaching the end of life: A concept analysis

    Background: 'Living in the moment' is an essential part of dignity-conserving practice in end-of-life care settings. Although living in the moment is important for care at the end of life, from the perspective of both the person and their family, there is no clear conceptual understanding of what it represents.Objective: To explore the concept of 'living in the moment' in the context of dignity-conserving care at the end of life.Design: A concept analysis.Data sources: The databases of Medline, CinAHL, PubMed, Web of Science, PsycINFO, SocINDEX and Cochrane were searched for studies published between 1941 and 2019, and searches of dictionaries and grey literature, as well as hand-searching were conducted, to yield qualitative, mixed methods and systematic reviews published in English, related to the term 'living in the moment'.Method: The methods of Walker and Avant were used to identify antecedents, attributes and consequences of the concept of 'living in the moment'.Results: The literature review generated a total of 37 papers for this concept analysis. The attributes identified were (1) simple pleasure, (2) prioritising relationships, (3) living each day to the fullest, (4) maintaining normality, and (5) not worrying about the future. The antecedents were (1) awareness of dying, (2) living with life-threatening illness, (3) positive individual growth, and (4) living with an uncertain future. The consequences were (1) a good quality of life, (2) preserving dignity, and (3) coping with the uncertainty of life.Conclusions: A universal definition and conceptual model of the main concept, including theoretical relationships between its antecedents, attributes and consequences, was developed. The definition and proposed conceptual model can allow instruments to be developed that measure the effects, existence or attributes of the concept, and identify a theoretical model, and can also lead to new perspectives and strategies for implementation by nurses to improve dignified person-centred care at the end of life
