SAĞLIK RİSKLERİNİN GAZETELERDE SUNUMU: SAĞLIK HABERLERİ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME
Sağlığa ilişkin konular, hem bireyler hem de medya açısından dikkat çeken mevzuların başında gelmektedir. Günümüz modern toplumlarında deneyimlenen pek çok gelişmeye ek olarak geleneksel toplumlardan farklı yeni risk faktörleriyle de karşı karşıya kalınmakta ve bu risk faktörlerinden bir kısmı da, sağlığa ilişkin riskleri içermektedir. Sağlık haberlerinin temel işlevi, sağlığa ilişkin bilgi aktarma olmakla birlikte haberlerde yer alan kavramlar, bireylerin sağlık risk algıları üzerinde etkili olabilmektedir. Bu varsayımdan hareketle çalışmada Hürriyet ve Posta gazetelerinde bir yıllık süreyle yayınlanan sağlık haberleri içerik analizi yöntemiyle incelenmiştir. İncelenen her iki gazetede de risk kavramı kullanılmayan haberlerin, kullanılan haberlere oranla daha fazla olduğu ancak kavramın kullanıldığı haberlerde kavramın birden fazla kez kullanıldığı bulgulanmıştır. Bu bulgulara ek olarak haberlerde risk kavramın yanı sıra en çok “sorun, problem, zarar ve kayıp” kavramlarının kullanıldığı, tıbbi terimlere sıkça yer verildiği ancak bu terimlerin yarıya yakınında tıbbi kavramların gündelik kavramlarla açıklanmadığı ve haberde kaynak göstermeye ilişkin iki gazete arasında belirgin farklar olduğu tespit edilmiştir
DOES THE HOUNSFIELD UNIT MEASURED IN MULTIPLE FOCUS IN HIGH RESOLUTION TEMPORAL BONE TOMOGRAPHY CONTRIBUTE TO THE DIAGNOSIS OF OTOSCLEROSIS?
Purpose: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the function of high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) densitometry in the diagnosis of otosclerosis by performing densitometric measurements on the foci around the cochlea. Methods: The HRCT images of 0.5 mm thin-slice axial sections were obtained from 30 patients with otosclerosis, who had been surgically confirmed and performed computed tomography of the temporal bone before the surgery, and 30 patients, who had undergone cochlear implant surgery and had been identified as the control group were examined. Densitometric measurements obtained from 7 different points of the otic capsule were recorded as the mean Hounsfield unit (HU) for each patient. Results: When we compared the patient and the control groups, a statistically significant difference was found in densitometric measurements in 6 of the 7 different regions (p0.05). There was also a statistically significant difference between these two groups in the mean HU value obtained by measurements performed in 7 regions (p 0.05). Conclusion: In our study, it was found that the density around the otic capsule was lower in patients with otosclerosis compared to normal patients
Evaluation of the Remainders of a Class of Series by Using Saddle Point Method
Remainders of various forms of series expressions of a function F(x), which arises frequently in the high frequency solutions of electromagnetic wave radiation and scattering problems, are transformed into some integrals. Then, the Saddle Point Method is applied to those integrals to obtain accurate approximations for terminating the series expressions. The accuracy improvements are illustrated by numerical examples and graphs. IEE

Nutritional deficiencies increase with an increase in population worldwide. They are important causes of diseases and deaths. Synthetic meat is among the future food sources for hunger prevention and sustainable nutrition. Synthetic meat is based on the reproduction of tissues from animals with advanced technology in a laboratory environment. In this way, it is thought that damages caused by the livestock sector to the environment and ethical problems resulting from slaughtering could be reduced. Although synthetic meat technology has improved, many issues have not been fully solved yet. Moreover, production of synthetic meats with desired flavor, texture and appearance have not been fully achieved. Producing this type of meats is very expensive. There are also other problems with the acceptance of this meat by communities for various sociocultural reasons. In order to understand the synthetic meat issue clearly, studies in this field should be increased and legislation and policies should be developed. Evaluation of the Utility of Indocyanine Green Video Angiography in Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation Surgery
Objective: To assess the utility of intraoperative indocyanine green video angiography (ICG-VA) during microsurgical resection of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Methods: Data of the 24 patients, who were surgically treated for AVM using intraoperative ICG-VA, were reviewed retrospectively. Postoperative digital subtraction angiography (DSA) was performed in all patients before they regained consciousness and became fully awake, and the results were compared with those obtained with intraoperative ICG-VA. A scheduled DSA was performed in all patients in the third, sixth, and 12th postoperative months as well. Results: Authors retrospectively analyzed the records of intraoperative ICG-VA application of all 24 patients. Though the exposures were limited and the image qualities were poor at higher magnification on the surgical microscope within deep surgical fields, the AVM niduses, feeding arteries, draining veins, and their relations to normal vasculature were observed precisely with ICG-VA in all the procedures. Furthermore, the visualization was not qualified enough to identify these pathological vascular structures accurately before evacuating and irrigating the layer of blood clots that obscure the view in patients who presented with hemorrhage. In a patient in our series, a residual nidus in the tail of the caudate nucleus was detected with immediate postoperative DSA which was not revealed by terminal assessment with final intraoperative ICG-VA. Conclusions: Intraoperative ICG-VA is particularly effective in the identification of the feeder, nidus, and drainer and in the assessment of the flow dynamics of the nidus in cerebral AVM surgery. It may be a quick and safe technique for intraoperative imaging of the angioarchitecture of superficial AVMs, but it may be less helpful for deep-seated lesions. Furthermore, this method alone may not be useful in the identification of residual disease or improvement of the clinical outcomes. DSA has remained the gold standard for confirming AVM obliteration. Despite the technical limitations associated with ICG-VA, a combination of intraoperative ICG-VA and immediate postoperative DSA may advance the safety and efficacy of AVM surgery. © 2022 Elsevier Inc
Adli Bilimlerde Adli Tıp ve Adli Tıp Dışı Alanların Türkiye’deki Yapılanması ile İlgili Sorunlar : İki Rapor ile Değerlendirme
Adli bilimler, özel bir uzmanlık gerektiren birçok dalı bünyesinde barındıran bir üst yapıdır. Uzmanlık gerektiren bu dalların uygulamaya doğru bir şekilde tatbik edilebilmesi ise kendine özgü bir örgütlenmeyi gerektirmektedir. Bu şekilde bir örgütlenmeyi kurabilmenin yolu, sorunların hem içerden hem de dışardan bir gözle değerlendirilmesine sıkı bir biçimde bağlıdır. Dolayısıyla, adli bilimler ve adli tıbbın Türkiye’deki yapılanması ile ilgili sorunlara bütüncül yaklaşmak maksadıyla konu ile ilgili literatür taranmış ve adli tıp ve adli tıp dışı alanlardaki sorunların tartışıldığı iki kaynağa ulaşılmıştır. Bunlardan ilki Cumhurbaşkanlığı Devlet Denetleme Kurulu’nun (DDK) 2010 yılında hazırladığı çalışmadır. Bu çalışmadaki temel perspektif Avrupa Birliği normlarını sağlamaktır. Diğer çalışma ise Prof. Dr. Yasemin Balcı editörlüğünde, Adli Tıp Uzmanları Derneği tarafından hazırlanan ve 7 Nisan 2007 tarihinde kabul edilen “Adli Tıp Hizmet Modeli ve İnsan Gücü Planlaması” adlı raporudur. Günümüze kadar alan ile ilgili olarak birçok araştırma yapılmış olmakla birlikte birçok alanın ve konunun kapsamlı olarak tartışıldığı ve önerilerde bulunulduğu söz konusu iki rapor ön plana çıkmaktadır. Bu kapsamda değerlendirilen bu ayrıntılı raporlarda belirtilen bu sorunlarla ilgili olarak, sorunların çözümlenmesinde önerilen yapılar ve düzenlemelerin yerine getirilmesinde eksiklikler olduğu görülmektedir. Bu sebeple öncelikli olarak bu raporlarda belirtilen sorunların çözümü için günümüze kadar yapılmış herhangi bir düzenleme ve yapılanma konusu yeri geldiğinde tartışılmıştır
Mitolojik Ana Tasavvuru Bağlamında Toprak
Türk mitolojisinde kozmogonik tasarım; gök, yer ve yeraltı olmak üzere üç katmanlı olarak düşünülmüştür. Sözü edilen her bir katman, iyi ve kötü kavramlarıyla anlamlandırılmıştır. Bu düşünceye göre, gök, tanrısal mekân olarak iyiliği/aydınlığı; yeraltı ise Tanrı tarafından cezalandırılan Erlik mekânını yani kötülüğü/karanlığı temsil etmektedir. Yeryüzü ise hem iyi hem de kötüye meyilli olan kişioğlunun yaşadığı alanı simgelemektedir. Yeryüzünün merkez simgesi ise topraktır. Toprağın kutsallığı, yer ile gök arasında dünya ekseni (axis mundi) vazifesi gören ağaç, dağ gibi birçok unsura, tıpkı bir annenin bebeğini karnında taşıması gibi, yaşam alanı sağlaması düşüncesinden gelmektedir. Dolayısıyla toprak, üretici, bereket verici olarak tasarımlanmıştır. Toprak farklı kültürlerde üzerinde yaşanan mekân olmasının yanında hayat verici ve besleyici özellikleriyle anne merkezli simgesel anlatımın önemli bir unsuru olmuştur. Diğer birçok toplumda görüldüğü gibi, Türk toplum ve kültür hayatında da toprağın ana olarak algılanması, çoban kültüründe otlaklara olan gereksinimden; tarım kültüründe ise toprağa olan ekonomik bağlılık ihtiyacından kaynaklanmaktadır. Çalışmada, mitolojik ana algısının, Türk mitik tasarımından beslenen sözlü folklor ürünlerindeki işlevsel konumu üzerine bir değerlendirme yapılması planlanmaktadır
Performance boosting of image matching-based iris recognition systems using deformable circular hollow kernels and uniform histogram fusion images
Identification of people using different biometric data is becoming more important in network society. Biometrics include voice, ears, palms, fingerprints, faces, iris, retina, and hand shapes. Among these features, iris detection gets more attention because each iris type is unique and does not change throughout life. In this study, an iris recognition framework is proposed using deformable circular hollow kernels and uniform histogram fusion images (UHFIs). This system introduces two different approaches for the iris recognition: one with image matching without machine learning and the other one with machine learning. In the first approach, image matching through Gabor features is employed. After getting the circularly cropped UHFI, Gabor features are extracted and employed in the image matching-based recognition system. In addition, a normalized cross-correlation coefficient is used as a similarity metric to compare the Gabor feature vectors. In the second approach, Gabor feature images are extracted and employed in deep learning (DL). According to the experimental results, the proposed system reaches around 89% accuracy on MMU1, 86% accuracy on MMU2, and about 50% accuracy on the CASIAV3 and CASIAV4 datasets when no machine learning is employed. Extensive benchmarking results also indicate that the proposed system boosts the performance of conventional systems by at least around 40% in terms of accuracy in the absence of machine learning. However, in the presence of machine learning, experimental results show that the proposed method with DL achieves an accuracy of up to 100% for MMU1, MMU2, CASIAV3, and CASIAV4 datasets. Prepared activated carbon from hazelnut shell where coated nanocomposite with Ag+ used for antibacterial and adsorption properties
In this research, prepared activated carbon by H3PO4 from hazelnut shells was coated with silver ions for the preparation of nanoparticles which were mixed in two ratios (1:0.5 and 1:1) by using of chemical reduction method. The adsorption capacity of activated carbons has been proven by BET and iodine number. Then, the antimicrobial effect of nanoparticles on the Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli was investigated; in addition to that, the characterization of hazelnut shell and silver-coated activated carbons was determined by Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. The optimum condition of activated carbon from hazelnut shells indicated that 66.01% carbon content within 36.22% efficiency, while BET surface area achieved as 1208 m2/g and its contained 0.6104 cm3 g−1 total pore volume. The microbial effect indicated that 105 CFU/mL of E. coli was completely inhibited in 30 min. Silver-coated activated carbon showed excellent bacteriostatic activity against E. coli and S. aureus. The results show that the composite has good prospects for applications in drinking water. E. coli of 104 CFU/mL in drinking water were destroyed within 25 min of contact with the filter made with AgAC. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature
Digitalization and Populism: Cross-Country Evidence
The current paper aims to analyze the impact of digitalization on the rise of populism in recent decades. To this purpose, it empirically investigates the impact of the business sector's digital adoption on populism using data for 82 countries. The cross-country regression estimates indicate that digital adoption by the business sector increases populist rhetoric the leader party adopts. Additionally, cross-country regression results show that the level of democracy decreases while corruption increases populist rhetoric. The cross-country regression estimation results also indicate that digitalization increases populism for both left-wing and right-wing political parties. These results indicate that digital adoption by the business sector should not be excluded from empirical studies
