Aim: During the recent past, the big role of various techniques of physiotherapy in the management of various pain syndromes has been recognized. This study determined the effects of kinesiotaping and stretching on pain, cervical joint range of motion and functional status in patients with myofascial pain due to temporomandibular joint disorder. Methodology: We enrolled 33 patients with myofascial pain due to temporomandibular joint disorder in the study. The patients were divided into three groups; Group K received kinesiotaping, while Group S received stretching exercises, of the sternocleidomastoid and upper trapezius muscles. Patients in the Groups K and S received application twice a week for two weeks. No application was made to the control group (Group C). Cervical joint range of motion, muscle strength, pain, algometry tests and functional evaluation were repeated three times. Results: The groups were homogeneous in terms of demographics and the evaluated parameters at the beginning of the study (P > 0.05). In the Groups K and S, positive improvements were achieved in visual analog scale, algometry results, distance of mandibular depression, results of Patient Health Questionnaire and Jaw Functional Limitation Scale after treatment (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Kinesiotaping and stretching on sternocleidomastoid and upper trapezius muscles were found to have equivalent effects in reducing pain, increasing mouth opening and functionality in patients suffering from myofascial pain due to temporomandibular joint disorder. © 2022 Faculty of Anaesthesia, Pain and Intensive Care, AFMS. Using 6.32 fb−1 of e+e− collision data collected at the center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we perform an amplitude analysis of the decay Ds+→ K+π+π− and determine the amplitudes of the various intermediate states. The absolute branching fraction of Ds+→ K+π+π− is measured to be (6.11 ± 0.18stat.± 0.11syst.) × 10−3. The branching fractions of the dominant intermediate processes Ds+→ K+ρ0, ρ0→ π+π− and Ds+→ K*(892)0π+, K*(892)0→ K+π− are determined to be (1.96 ± 0.19stat.± 0.23syst.) × 10−3 and (1.85 ± 0.12stat.± 0.13syst.) × 10−3, respectively. The intermediate resonances f0(500), f0(980), and f0(1370) are observed for the first time in this channel. [Figure not available: see fulltext.] © 2022, The Author(s)

Calculation of the T – X phase diagram of tetradecane + hexadecane and tetradecane + pentadecane under high pressure by the landau mean field theory

    No full text
Landau phenomenological model is applied to two binary mixtures (tetradecane + hexadecane and tetradecane + pentadecane) to calculate T−x (temperature - composition) phase diagram under high pressure for their solid – liquid equilibria. The phase line equation derived from the free energy of the solid phase is fitted to the experimental liquidus curve (T−x) from the literature and the parameters in the Landau expansion are determined. As observed experimentally, variation of the temperature with the composition below and above Te (minimum melting temperature) is almost linear at the pressures from 0.1 to 100 MPa in these binary mixtures. Our results indicate that the influence of pressure on liquid – solid equilibria can also be studied for the other binary mixtures or two – components systems by the Landau mean field model, as studied here. © 2022 Elsevier B.V

Using data collected with the BESIII detector in e+e− collisions at center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226 GeV and corresponding to 6.32 fb−1 of integrated luminosity, we report the amplitude analysis and branching-fraction measurement of the Ds+→ π+π0η′ decay. We find that the dominant intermediate process is Ds+→ ρ+η′ and the significances of other resonant and nonresonant processes are all less than 3σ. The upper limits on the branching fractions of S-wave and P-wave nonresonant components are set to 0.10% and 0.74% at the 90% confidence level, respectively. In addition, the branching fraction of the Ds+→ π+π0η′ decay is measured to be (6.15 ± 0.25(stat.) ± 0.18(syst.))%, which receives significant contribution only from Ds+→ ρ+η′ according to the amplitude analysis. Surface engineered AuNPs for paclitaxel-loaded bleomycin delivery as a supplementation therapy

    No full text
A paradigm transition in cancer treatment gradually moved from "one drug-one target" toward "multi-target selective drugs design", because different drugs simultaneously inhibit tumor progression differently. The underlying mechanism has encountered significant challenges, such as encapsulating chemotherapies into a nanosized particulate system, adverse side effects, and managing multidrug-resistant. To address these issues, herein we engineered the gold nanoparticles’ surfaces with cross-linked polyethylene glycol that have well-controlled morphology and further encapsulated with commonly known chemo-drugs paclitaxel and bleomycin for nanovectorization of therapeutics to the intended site and there act through the concurrent action of dual targeting mechanisms without creating undesired side effects. The structures of the nanovectorization particulate system were confirmed by various spectroscopic techniques. The efficacy of nanovectorization particulate system and non-targeted free drugs was evaluated using the human cervical adenocarcinoma cell model. Our findings indicate that this nanovectorization particulate system had synergic stimuli-responsive characteristics and unrivaled control of efficient transportation of therapeutics agents. This system meets the high demand for multiple targeting delivery and has substantial benefits across multiple fields of nanomedicine, especially in chemotherapy. © 2022, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology

A mechanical model and stress-strain response of the biceps brachii under static load

    No full text
Muscle contraction is a complex phenomenon that begins with chemical processes, continues physiologically, and leads to the production of force. Although the production of force in the muscles depends on factors such as temperature, age, gender, race, but the most important factor is the external load applied to the muscle. Determining the effects of increased load on muscle mechanics is of particular importance for planning exercise activities and rehabilitation processes. In this study, the effects of different external forces on the stress and pressure behavior of the muscle were examined on a simplified model of the biceps. Accordingly, a finite element model of the biceps brachii muscle fiber was constructed. The application of different static loads (2.5 – 100 N) on both the proximal tendon (one-directional) and the proximal and distal tendon (bidirectional) together were investigated. According to the results, it was found that the external force applied in both directions causes a significant increase in displacement behavior and stress

Objective: Currently the Covid-19 pandemic is studied with great expectations by several epidemiological models with the aim of predicting the future behaviour of the pandemic. Determining the level of disorder in the pandemic can give us insight into the societal reactions to the pandemic the socio-economic structures and health systems in different countries. Methods: We perform a statistical analysis of Covid-19 pandemic using an entropy measure. For this, the Boltzmann-Gibbs-Shannon (BGS) entropy method is applied to the daily case data and the predictability in the covid-19 pandemic is discussed based on its entropic behaviour. The BGS entropy of the time evolution of daily cases in weekly groups from the beginning of the pandemic to 29 August 2021 in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, Turkey, Russia and Iran are calculated and the given countries are classified by the predictability of the spread of the pandemic. Results: There is a clear difference in the predictability of the pandemic between the European countries and Turkey, Russia, and Iran. It is also observed that the vaccination programs and the Covid-19 variants of concerns; 20I/501Y.V1, 20H/501.V2, 21A/S:478K and 20J/501Y.V3 have effected the predictability of the pandemic in given countries are observed. Conclusion: The BGS entropy-based approach to determine the disorder in the time evolution of daily cases of the Covid-19 pandemic is effective and the results can be beneficial for comparison of the country classifications generated by the epidemiological models of this pandemic system

Metoprolol‘s Potential Beneficial Effects On Covid-19 Patients

    No full text
Background: We aimed to find the potential beneficial effects of metoprolol, which was added to the treatment of COVID-19 patients with drug-induced long corrected QT (di-LQTc) interval. Materials and Methods: This study was a retrospective study. Hospitalized patient files were scanned, and the data of 160 Covid-19 positive patients who were confirmed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) between April 1 and June 1, 2020, were analyzed. A total of 52 patients’ data with CoVID-19 patients with di-LQTc were scanned and collected in the metoprolol group, and a total of 108 patients’ data with CoVID-19 with normal QTc levels were collected in the non-metoprolol group. Results: The mean age was 48.58±16.52 (48.75% male). The in-hospital mortality rate was 3.125% (n=5). We did not see any malignant arrhythmias in the groups during follow-up. In the metoprolol group, the peak Qtc was 466.50 (458.75-477.50) msec in patients before metoprolol treatment, whereas it decreased to 443 (428.75-453) msec at discharge. Forward conditional logistic regression analysis demonstrated that basal C-reactive protein (CRP) (OR=1.031, 95%CI: 1.001-1.062, p=0.043) was the independent predictor of di-LQTc in Covid-19 patients. Conclusion: COVID-19 patients with di-LQTc could be treated and we thought we could reverse the QT prolongation by adding metoprolol to the treatment protocol
