Scale development, and validation on fans

    No full text
This study aims to explain destination attributes that affect football fans' attendance at away games using a sequential method design. The research developed a scale through a six-phase process, including item pool preparation, expert opinion, first pilot test, second pilot test, third pilot test, and fourth pilot test. Firstly, a 17-item pool was comprised. Secondly, the item pool was applied to sports experts, and refined. Thirdly, EFA and CFA were conducted, and a 13-item pool was obtained in a four-dimensional structure. These factors were named as attractions, prices, basic services, and ease of transportation. In the fourth, fifth, and sixth studies, this dimensional structure was confirmed. The study found that ease of transportation, basic services, prices, and attractions of destinations affect fans' participation in away football games, respectively. This research contributes to football theory and sports tourism, highlighting the term 'tourist-fan', a term rarely examined in previous studies

Lactobacillus GG is associated with mucin genes expressions in type 2 diabetes mellitus: a randomized, placebo-controlled trial

    No full text
Purpose Recent studies indicate that dysbiosis of gut microbiota and low-grade infammation are important pathogenic determinants of type two diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The aim of this study is to investigate the efects of Lactobacillus GG on glycemic control, lipid profle, infammatory parameters, and some gene expression levels in individuals with T2DM. Methods In a randomized, placebo-controlled trial, 34 women, aged 30–60 years with T2DM consumed daily probiotics or placebo for 8 weeks. The probiotic group consumed 10× 109 Cfu/day Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG ATCC 53,103 (LGG), approved by the TR Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Livestock. Anthropometric measurements, food diary, fasting blood, and fecal samples were taken at baseline and post-treatment. Results Fasting blood glucose was signifcantly decreased in probiotic (p=0.049) and placebo (p=0.028), but there was no diference between the groups. In the probiotic group, no signifcant diference was observed in HbA1c, fructosamine, lipid profle, and infammatory variables compared to baseline. In this group, with LGG supplementation, mucin 2 and 3A (MUC2 and MUC3A) gene expressions increased more than ninefolds (p=0.046 and p=0.008, respectively) at posttreatment. Meanwhile, there was no signifcant change in any of the gene expressions in the placebo group. There was no signifcant diference in energy, protein, dietary fber, and cholesterol intakes between placebo and probiotic groups during the study. However, daily fat intake (p=0.003), body weight (p=0.014), and body fat (p=0.015) in the probiotic group were signifcantly decreased. Conclusion In this study, the efects of a single probiotic strain were investigated for 8 weeks. At the end of the study, although there was no fnding that clearly refected on the glycemic parameters of T2DM, its benefcial efects on the expression of mucin genes, which are responsible for weight loss and protection of intestinal barrier functions, cannot be denied. Further studies are needed to reveal the importance of these fndings. Clinical trial registration ID: NCT05066152, October 4, 2021 retrospectively registered in ClinicalTrials.gov PRS web site

Abstract: With technological advances, companies have had to change their business models and adapt to new technologies in order to maintain their competitive advantage and protect themselves from the destructive effects of technology. This situation has emerged as a "digital transformation" phenomenon in the discipline of business and management and has attracted intense attention by both researchers and practitioners. The aim of this research is to examine the articles on "digital transformation" in terms of different parameters. In order to achieve this aim, publications with articles between 2011 and 2021 were filtered and included in the research. While scanning, attention was paid to include the keyword "digital transformation" in the title, keyword and abstract, and that the obtained data set reflects the content in the context of digitalization. As a result of the search, 3,000 articles on "digital transformation" between 2011 and 2021 were included in the analysis. In the study, secondary data obtained through document review were used and the study was analyzed by bibliometric analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods. The journal in which the most articles on the subject were published and the most cited was the journal "Sustainability". The most cited author in terms of the number of citations on the subject was Thomas Hess 1083), while the most productive author in terms of the number of documents was Clair Sullivan (13). The university and country that published the highest number of documents were “Politecnico di Milano” and Germany, respectively. The study is important in terms of showing the current situation and trends in the literature on digital transformation and informing researchers. Structured Abstract: A digital transformation is on the agenda, which emerged with the concept of Industry 4.0, which expresses the fourth Industrial Revolution we are in, and which affects both economic areas and public and social areas as well as personal lives (Klein, 2019; Schwab, 2017). In particular, in an economic environment where the permeability of commercial borders increases by becoming virtual and where competition is experienced at a global level, businesses need to follow technological developments closely and make the necessary transformations in order to compete with their competitors and maintain their existence. It is seen that this transformation is expressed as "digital transformation" as a concept in today's technology world, where the philosophy of industry 4.0 has begun to be discussed (Çark, 2020). “Digital transformation” refers to digitization and its economic and social impacts. Digitization is the conversion of analog data and processes into a machine-readable format. Digitization is the use of digital technologies and data, as well as the resulting changes in new or existing activities (OECD, 2018). In the digital transformation process, the use of information and information technologies in almost all areas of our lives such as production, marketing, education, health, media, retail, logistics has shifted the attention of researchers and academics to this direction, and many studies have been carried out on digital transformation. Considering that the evaluation of scientific research has become an increasingly important need, the lack of bibliometric studies on the subject draws attention. Bibliometrics is a research method that includes techniques based on the measurement of features related to documents. Bibliometric analysis; it is based on analyzing the obtained documents or articles according to certain characteristics and revealing the findings. Studies specific to a particular field or studies published in a specific journal are examined according to different parameters and provide the presentation of findings according to these parameters. These findings may include data such as keywords, number of authors, citations and research topics. The aim of this study is to make a bibliometric analysis of the articles scanned in web of science in the last ten years. In this context, filtering was done by using the keyword "digital transformation" from the WoS database on 20.06.2020 and the articles published between 2011-2021 were subjected to content analysis. The VOSviewer package program was used to reveal the mapping of keyword network, citation network, co-citation network, co-authorship (country and institution cooperation) analyzes in the obtained data. When examined in terms of the journal in which digital transformation studies were published, it was determined that the journal "Sustainability" was the leading journal in this field with 145 publications and 1281 citations. It can be said that this situation is due to the policy of the magazine that focuses on publications on digital transformation. When we look at the joint citation analysis at the journal level, “Technological Forecasting and Social Change”, “Strategic Management Journal”, “Organization Science”, “Journal of Business Research” are among the prominent journals. When we look at the most frequently used keywords in articles on digital transformation, it is seen that keywords such as “Digital Transformation”, “Digitalization”, “Industry 4.0”, “Covid-19”, “Digital Economy”, “Big Data” are used frequently. In the cooccurrence map of the keywords, “Digitalization”, “Management”, “Strategy”, “Digital İnnovation”, “Dynamic Capabilities”, “Sustainability”, “Covid-19”, “Pandemic”, “Digital Skills”, “E-Goverment”, “ELearning”, “Artifical Intelligence”, “Big Data”, “Industry 4.0”, “Smart Manufacturing”, “Cybersecurity” keywords are included. This supports the conclusion that the concept of digital transformation is associated with these keywords. The frequency of studies dealing with Covid-19 and digital transformation together shows that digital transformation has been intensively researched during the pandemic process. In terms of productivity, “Clair Sullivan” ranks first with 13 documents, while “Thomas Hess” ranks first in terms of number of citations. The Politecnico di Milano (30 documents, 545 citations) is the most productive, while Germany (402 documents, 5421 citations) is the most productive. The research includes articles published between 2011-2021. The exclusion of conference titles and book titles constitutes the limitation of the study, since it is aimed to examine only the articles within the scope of the research. In addition, this research is limited to topics that include a topic related to digital transformation. All additional works related to digital transformation but not explicitly mentioned in the document were likewise excluded. Analyzing the study with data from the Web of Science database is another limitation. This study provides a general evaluation opportunity on digital transformation and provides a preliminary preparation opportunity for researchers in the study. Researchers can examine different databases and compare the results of this study. They may reach conclusions that either support or reject the asserted findings

    No full text

Arum elongatum (Araceae) is widely used traditionally for the treatment of abdominal pain, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, rheumatism and hemorrhoids. This study investigated the antioxidant properties, individual phenolic compounds, total phenolic and total flavonoid contents (HPLC/MS analysis), reducing power and metal chelating effects of four extracts obtained from A. elongatum (ethyl acetate (EA), methanol (MeOH), methanol/water (MeOH/water) and infusion). The inhibitory activity of the extracts were also determined against acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, tyrosinase, amylase and glucosidase enzymes. The MeOH/water extracts contained the highest amount of phenolic contents (28.85 mg GAE/g) while the highest total flavonoid content was obtained with MeOH extract (36.77 mg RE/g). MeOH/water demonstrated highest antioxidant activity against DPPH center dot radical at 38.90 mg Trolox equivalent per gram. The infusion extract was the most active against ABTS(+center dot) (133.08 mg TE/g). MeOH/water extract showed the highest reducing abilities with the CUPRAC value of 102.22 mg TE/g and the FRAP value of 68.50 mg TE/g. A strong metal chelating effect was observed with MeOH/water extract (35.72 mg EDTAE/g). The PBD values of the extracts ranged from 1.01 to 2.17 mmol TE/g. EA extract displayed the highest inhibitory activity against AChE (2.32 mg GALAE/g), BChE (3.80 mg GALAE/g), alpha-amylase (0.56 mmol ACAE/g) and alpha-glucosidase (9.16 mmol ACAE/g) enzymes. Infusion extract was the most active against tyrosinase enzyme with a value of 83.33 mg KAE/g. A total of 28 compounds were identified from the different extracts. The compounds present in the highest concentration were chlorogenic acids, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, isoquercitrin, delphindin 3,5-diglucoside, kaempferol-3-glucoside and hyperoside. The biological activities of A. elongatum extracts could be due to the presence of compounds such as gallic acid, chlorogenic acids, ellagic acid, epicatechin, catechin, kaempferol, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, quercetin, isoquercitrin, and hyperoside. Extracts of A. elongatum showed promising biological activities which warrants further investigations in an endeavor to develop biopharmaceuticals

    No full text
Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of cervical thrust manipulation and exercise in patients with mechanical neck pain (MNP). Method: Sixty (mean age 31.45 ± 7.31 years) patients were randomized into three groups: manipulation (Group 1); exercise (Group 2); and manipulation plus exercise (Group 3). All interventions were performed 2 days a week for 6 weeks. The visual analog scale (VAS) and Neck Disability Index (NDI) were primary outcome measures; pressure pain threshold (PPT), range of motion (ROM), Short form-36 (SF-36), and Global Rating of Change (GROC) were secondary outcome measures. Results: All parameters improved in all groups (p < .05). Only the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) for NDI was achieved in Group 3. Group 3 had greater improvement in: VAS-rest (p = .004); NDI (p < .001); PPT-left (p = .012); and vitality (p = .002), as well as higher GROC compared to the other groups (p = .043). Group 3 was superior to Group 2 in terms of: ROM (Lateral flexion [LF]-right, p = .003/left, p = .003, rotation-right, p = .012/left, p = .010), PPT-right (p = .022); and emotional well-being (p = .003). Group 1 was superior to Group 2 in terms of ROM (LF-left, p = .043/rotation-left, p = .049). The between-group effect sizes were large (0.12–0.36). Conclusion: The combined application of cervical thrust manipulation and exercise in MNP resulted in greater improvement in clinical parameters, especially function, and higher patient satisfaction in the short term compared to their application alone. Because of its positive effects, cervical thrust manipulation can be added to the exercise program according to the patient’s needs and suitability for manipulation. © 2023 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

    No full text
The medicinal plant of Styrax liquidus (ST) (sweet gum balsam) which extracted from Liquidambar orientalis Mill tree, was loaded into the 3D printed polylactic acid (PLA)/chitosan (CS) based 3D printed scaffolds to investigate its wound healing and closure effect, in this study. The morphological and chemical properties of the ST loaded 3D printed scaffolds with different concentrations (1 %, 2 %, and 3 % wt) were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), respectively. In addition, the mechanical and thermal properties of the materials were investigated by Tensile test and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), respectively. The antimicrobial activities of the ST loaded 3D printed scaffolds and their incubation media in the PBS (pH 7.4, at 37 °C for 24 h) were investigated on two Gram-positive and two Gram-negative standard pathogenic bacteria with the agar disc diffusion method. The colorimetric MTT assay was used to determine the cell viability of human fibroblast cells (CCD-1072Sk) incubated with free ST, ST loaded, and unloaded 3D printed scaffolds. The 1 % and 2 % (wt) ST loaded PLA/CS/ST 3D printed scaffolds showed an increase in the cell number. Annexin V/PI double stain assay was performed to test whether early or late apoptosis was induced in the PLA/CS/1 % ST and PLA/CS/2 % ST loaded groups and the results were consistent with the MTT assay. Furthermore, a wound healing assay was carried out to investigate the effect of ST loaded 3D printed scaffolds on wound healing in CCD-1072Sk cells. The highest wound closure compared to the control group was observed on cells treated with PLA/CS/1 % ST for 72 h. According to the results, novel biocompatible ST loaded 3D printed scaffolds with antimicrobial effect can be used as wound healing material for potential tissue engineering applications. © 2023 Elsevier B.V

DNA methylation of KIFC1 gene in determination of histological diagnosis, prognosis and metastasis of lung cancer

    No full text
Background: One of the main features of cancer, especially lung cancer (LC), is abnormal cell division. Abnormal expression of kinesin family member C1 (KIFC1/HSET), which is involved in mitotic cell division and ensures equatorial alignment of chromosomes during division, is observed in both premalignant and malignant lesions. There are no studies in the literature addressing the role of KIFC1 in the diagnosis and follow-up of LC. In this study, we investigated the epigenetic role of KIFC1 in the diagnosis, stage, and prognosis of various histological subtypes diagnosed with LC. Material and Methods: The expression and methylation status of the KIFC1 gene were examined after DNA/RNA isolation in tumor, conjugate normal tissue, and blood samples from 39 patients diagnosed with LC and in blood samples from 39 healthy controls. Changes in KIFC1 gene expression were examined by the Quantitative Real Time-PCR (qRT-PCR) method after cDNA synthesis following RNA isolation. The Methylation-Specific PCR (MSP) method was used to determine the methylation status of the KIFC1 gene. In this study, the expression/methylation profiles of the KIFC1 gene and the clinical and pathological characteristics of the patients were analyzed by statistical methods. Result: Hypomethylation was detected in 95.8% of the 62.1% of patients’ tissues with increased KIFC1 gene expression. The expression level of the KIFC1 gene was found to be increased 3.2-fold in the tumor tissues of the patients compared with the conjugated normal tissues and 2.4-fold in the serum of the patients compared with the healthy serum. Statistical comparison of patients' clinical parameters and methylation and expression results revealed statistical significance between KIFC1 expression and metastasis, tumor stage and tumor grade. Conclusion: In conclusion, the increase in the expression level of the KIFC1 gene is higher in patients diagnosed with LC than in the healthy population, and therefore, the increase in the expression level of the KIFC1 gene due to hypomethylation can be used as a screening biomarker in LC. It can also be considered that the methylation profile of the KIFC1 gene may be a potential biomarker for determining the subtype of squamous cell carcinoma in LC. The results of the study need to be analyzed and continued with a larger number of patients. © 2023 Elsevier Gmb
