    Polarization and entanglement in baryon–antibaryon pair production in electron–positron annihilation

    Particles directly produced at electron–positron colliders, such as the J/? meson, decay with relatively high probability into a baryon–antibaryon pair1. For spin-1/2 baryons, the pair can have the same or opposite helicites. A non-vanishing phase ?? between the transition amplitudes to these helicity states results in a transverse polarization of the baryons2–4. From the joint angular distribution of the decay products of the baryons, this phase as well as the parameters characterizing the baryon and the antibaryon decays can be determined. Here, we report the measurement of ?? = 42.4 ± 0.6 ± 0.5° using ? ? p?? and ?¯ ? p¯ ?+, n¯ ? decays at BESIII. We find a value for the ? ? p?? decay parameter of ?? = 0.750 ± 0.009 ± 0.004, 17 ± 3% higher than the current world average, which has been used as input for all ? polarization measurements since 19785,6. For ?¯ ? p¯ ?+ we find ?+ = ?0.758 ± 0.010 ± 0.007, giving ACP = (?? + ?+)/(?? ? ?+) = ?0.006 ± 0.012 ± 0.007, a precise direct test of charge–parity symmetry (CP) violation in ? decays. © 2019, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Limited

    Correlation of earthquake intensity measures and spectral displacement demands in building type structures

    Palancı, Mehmet (Arel Author)Seismic damage and its correlation with the earthquake intensity measures (IMs) are important for both record selection and probabilistic seismic risk assessment studies. A lot of studies considering the various structural properties were performed to investigate the correlations of mainly PGA and PGV under different strength reduction (R) and ductility factors (mu). In this study, correlation of many scalar IMs named as PGA, PGV, a(rms), v(rms), d(rms), I-a, CAV, ASI, SI are studied. Building represented by single degree of freedom (SDOF) models were classified according to lateral strength ratios (V-t/W), ratio of strength capacity at yield (V-t) to seismic weight (W), varying from 10% to 50%. Effects of post yield stiffness capacities, hysteretic behavior type and the soil properties on deformation demand of SDOF models are also taken into account. Post yield stiffness ratios of 0%, 5% and 10% considered and assigned to building models. Elastic-perfectly plastic and modified Clough hysteretic models were used in the non-linear dynamic analyses. Strong motion records obtained from firm and soft soil sites were classified according to V-s(30) and inelastic deformation demands obtained from both soil conditions are calculated and compared. Variation of correlation coefficients of different IMs indicates that SI is the best earthquake parameter especially along the period range of 0.5-2 s which can be thought to represent building type structures. Furthermore, it was observed that sensitivity of SI parameter to post yield stiffness, hysteretic behavior type and the soil properties is very limited with respect to considered IMs. Correlation coefficients obtained from SDOF models are compared to that of multi-story buildings and the compatibility of both SDOF and MDOF models are presented

    Development culture and TQM in Turkish healthcare: importance of employee empowerment and top management leadership

    Total quality management (TQM) is directed at quality consciousness throughout all organisational processes. A successful TQM practice requires a culture that can adapt to changes and promote innovation. Development culture focuses especially on improvement, flexibility and external environment, concerning with growth, innovation and adaptation. From this perspective, the present study aims to examine the link between development culture and TQM in Turkish healthcare organisations and to explore the mediating roles of top management leadership and employee empowerment. Data were collected by using survey method and analysed by using structural equation modelling while being controlled for common method bias. The findings revealed that while development culture has a positive influence TQM, it is the top management leadership which mediates this relationship, not the employee empowerment. The results are discussed considering the difference in these mediating effects and organisational implications of the findings are provided. © 2018, © 2018 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group

    A comparative study on the electrical and dielectric properties of Al/Cd-doped ZnO/p-Si structures

    WOS: 000475587800030We have reported on the electrical and dielectric properties of Al/CdxZn1-xO/p-Si structures. The cadmium-doped zinc oxide (CdxZn1-xO) thin films with various Cd dopants (x=0.10, 0.20 and 0.30) were deposited on p-Si wafers via sol-gel spin coating method. The admittance (Y=G(m)+i omega C-m) measurements were performed at 1MHz. The C-2-V plots were used to extract the main electrical parameters such as the diffusion potential (V-D), the concentration of acceptor atoms (N-A), depletion region width (W-D) and barrier height (Phi(B)). The experimental results reveal that the capacitance increases with higher Cd dopant concentration due to the presence of interfacial charges while an opposite behaviour is observed in conductance. The lower values of conductance in the sample with high Cd content can be attributed to increase in series resistance. The dielectric measurements also confirm the effect of Cd substitution in ZnO on the device performance

    Development of a new algorithm for the estimation of the step percentage in compound muscle action potential scan

    Compound Muscle Action Potential (CMAP) Scan used in the diagnosis and in the monitoring of Neuromuscular Diseases is based on recording the responses obtained from the gradual stimulation of a peripheral nerve. Clearly visible differences between CMAPs are referred as step. The maximum CMAP percentage of all detected steps are defined as Step Percentage and this is one of the parameters providing evidence for Motor Unit (MU) loss and for reinnervation. The aim of this study is to develop an algorithm which enables to estimate the step percentage more quantitatively. Motor neuron groups which were created through a simulator software were stimulated gradually. The step sizes were computed by utilizing the obtained responses as CMAPs in computing step sizes. Then, these step sizes were sorted in descending order. The step percentage was estimated by taking the cumulative sum of the values greater than two standard deviations (SD) of these sorted step sizes by running the aforementioned algorithm. It was seen that there are larger in fluctuations Step% values in motor neuron groups with lower number of axons, however, a more regular decreasing trend with smaller fluctuations was observed in higher number of axons. In the future studies, the inclusion of further motor neurons with greater axons numbers will be established. Moreover, the application of the algorithm for the patient data will be also considered. © 2019 IEEE

    Efforts to Hold Ground in a Contested Region

    The Caspian Sea, the world's largest enclosed inland body of water prominent with its biological and natural resources drew attention of the international community with the disintegration of the Soviet Union. The number of the Caspian coastal states rose to five with the emergence of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan as independent states. Shortly after this, an intense rivalry ensued among all the littoral states including Iran and Russia to divide up the spoils of the Caspian Sea. This paper will discuss this competition from the Russian perspective. Russia pursued an active policy to thwart the construction of alternative oil and natural gas pipelines that would bypass its territory, tried to bring together all the littoral states under a multilateral security organization and worked on the institutionalization of a regional environmental security framework. The article will evaluate the success of all these moves and will examine the extent of their contribution to strengthen Russia's position in the Caspian

    An assessment of health information systems through the perspective of computer engineering students and medical students

    Introduction: Computer Engineering Students (CES) and Medical Students (MS) will actively participate in the management of health information system in the future. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the views of CES and MS about the patient privacy and security of health information systems. Methods: The participants of this cross-sectional study were the 3rd and 4th year CES of Marmara University, (n=163, F/M:71/92) and the 5th and 6th year MS of Marmara University (n=65, F/M:38/27). The data were collected via questionnaire comprising questions and statements about patient information security and confidentiality. Responses were prepared on the basis of 5 Point Likert Scale. Results: During the assessment of the questionnaires, it was observed that the statement “Health records should be accessible to the other health workers besides the physician” discomforted more CES (93,3%) than MS (78,5%) (p=0.003). A similar proportion was observed about “On-line communication with the physician” more CES (87,1%) prefer to communicate with the physician via electronic media than do the MS (66,2%) (p=0.001). Another significant point to be noted about the questionnaire results was that slightly more CES (40,5%) favor restrictions on the accessibility of “personal correspondance information” than MS (35,4%) (p>0.05). Conclusion: In the future, CES, who will be both internal and external stakeholders of the multi-disciplinary structure of healthcare management, thought that problems regarding security and privacy may occur.     The Effect of Internal Marketing on Internal Branding : An Empirical Research on Participation Banks in Turkey1

    In today’s geography where competition is increasing with globalization, businesses have to maintain their activities with different methods and models than ever before. Two essential factors that will make a business different from others are ensuring the employee satisfaction and branding. The concepts of internal marketing and internal branding offer a significant competition advantage to businesses in this context. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effects of internal marketing practices on internal branding practices in the participation banking sector in Turkey. The study employs data collected from a survey involving 524 participants. In the analysis part of this study, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model were used. According to the results of the study, it was determined that internal marketing practices affect internal branding practices. An other important result of the research is that employees who are motivated and trained with internal marketing practices are quite important factor in the success of the branding process of their affiliated business or organization
