„I Didn't Ask for It": Balkan women vs. the invisibility of rape
IN ENGLISH: Online initiative "I Didn't Ask for It" (#nisamtrazila) started in January 2021, motivated by a public confession of a young Serbian actress of being raped by a well-known Belgrade drama pedagogue. Soon joined by her female colleagues and other women, journalists, musicians, students, doctors and politicians, an online platform was opened where thousands of women of former Yugoslavia took the opportunity to describe and report the various forms of sexual abuse to which they were exposed during their childhood, education and employment and whose perpetrators were person(s) they knew and looked up to. As a belated Balkan version of the “Me Too” movement, “I Didn’t Ask for It” initiative inherited a number of its attributes while displaying some new ones, dependent on the specific socio-cultural and political context and heritage of the region. The latter was grounded in the complex permeation of the socialist attitude towards women's rights and sexual violence, the unresolved traumas of mass wartime rapes and the contemporary experience of the threat to “Balkan masculinity”.
“I Didn’t ask for it” did not only call for solidarity in the fight against violence, but by its very name suggested the necessity of addressing the epistemic (testimonial and hermeneutical) injustice to which women victims of sexual violence are exposed, both given the institutional lack of confidence in the truth of their claims and the individual’s inability to understand their own experiences and adversities. Women behind the initiative thus correctly assumed that the ensuing public reaction would be based on the accusation that women victims themselves were responsible and willing participants in the act of sexual violence, making their struggle to raise awareness of the phenomenon of sexual violence, unprecedented in former Yugoslav context, all the more important.
In this chapter I will offer a philosophical-feminist analysis of the evolution of the above-mentioned initiative (followed by a silencing backlash) and of the socio-cultural and political context that made it unique. I will concentrate in more detail on several aspects that seem characteristic of “I Didn’t Ask for It” that I consider to be closely related to the socio-cultural and political context of the region. These are the victims’ resignation and need for anonymity, as well as the fierce backlash (response) of sections of the public to the actions of the initiative itself and to its leaders. Although I am aware that resignation, anonymity, and backlash can be recognized in the "MeToo” movement as well, I do not consider them to be its dominant features; nor do I understand them to be connected to the same social phenomena. As a philosophical point of departure, I will utilize Simone de Beauvoir’s theoretical framework, especially her understanding of the myth of femininity and the ideas of complicity, solidarity, violence, and of sex and sexual autonomy. Beauvoir’s elaboration of the concept of the Other serves here as an ontological foundation of the epistemic problem of not recognizing another’s experience, discussed through Miranda Fricker’s theory of epistemic injustice, as well as an explanation of why victimization in the case of rape victims does not stop at the sole act of rape. --------------- IN CROATIAN: Online inicijativa "Nisam tražila" (#nisamtrazila) pokrenuta je u siječnju 2021., potaknuta javnim svjedočenjem mlade srpske glumice da ju je silovao poznati beogradski dramski pedagog. Ubrzo su joj se pridružile njezine glumačke kolegice i druge žene, novinarke, glazbenice, studentice, liječnice i političarke te je otvorena online platforma koju su tisuće žena bivše Jugoslavije iskoristile kako bi opisale i prijavile različite oblike seksualnog zlostavljanja kojima su bile izložene tijekom djetinjstva, školovanja i zaposlenja, a čiji su počinitelji bile osobe koje su poznavale i kojima su se divile. Kao zakašnjela balkanska inačica “Me Too” pokreta, inicijativa “Nisam tražila” naslijedila je niz njegovih osobina pokazavši pritom neke sasvim nove, ovisne o specifičnom sociokulturnom i političkom kontekstu i nasljeđu regije. Potonje je utemeljeno u kompleksnom prožimanju socijalističkog stava prema ženskim pravima i seksualnom nasilju, nerazriješenim traumama masovnih ratnih silovanja i suvremenom iskustvu prijetnje “balkanskom maskulinitetu”.
Inicijativa “Nisam tražila'' nije samo pozvala na solidarnost u borbi protiv nasilja, već je samim nazivom sugerirala nužnost suočavanja s epistemičkom (testimonijalnom i hermeneutičkom) nepravdom kojoj su izložene žene žrtve seksualnog nasilja, kako s obzirom na institucionalni nedostatak povjerenja u istinitost njihovih tvrdnji, tako i na individualnu nesposobnost razumijevanja vlastitih iskustava i nedaća. Žene koje stoje iza inicijative ispravno su pretpostavile da će reakcija javnosti na nju biti utemeljena na optužbi da su same žene žrtve bile odgovorne i voljne sudionice u činu seksualnog nasilja, čineći njihovu borbu za podizanje svijesti o fenomenu seksualnog nasilja, bez presedana u kontekstu bivše Jugoslavije, tim važnijom.
U ovom ću poglavlju ponuditi filozofsko-feminističku analizu evolucije gore spomenute inicijative (praćene ušutkavajućim otporom) i društveno-kulturnog i političkog konteksta koji ju je učinio jedinstvenom. Detaljnije ću se usredotočiti na nekoliko aspekata koji se čine karakterističnima za “Nisam tražila” a koje određujem blisko vezanima uz društveno-kulturni i politički kontekst regije. Riječ je o rezigniranosti i potrebi za anonimnošću žrtava, kao i o oštrom otporu (odgovoru) dijela javnosti na djelovanje same inicijative i njezinih čelnica. Iako sam svjesna da se rezigniranost, anonimnost i otpor mogu prepoznati i u pokretu "Me Too", ne smatram ih njegovim dominantnim obilježjima, niti ih shvaćam povezanima s istim društvenim fenomenima. Kao filozofskim polazištem poslužit ću se teorijskim okvirom Simone de Beauvoir, posebice njezinim razumijevanjem mita o ženskosti te ideja suučesništva, solidarnosti, nasilja i seksa i seksualne autonomije. Beauvoirova elaboracija pojma Drugog ovdje služi kao ontološki temelj epistemološkog problema neprepoznavanja tuđeg iskustva (o kojem se govori kroz teoriju epistemičke nepravde Mirande Fricker) te kao objašnjenje zašto viktimizacija u slučaju žrtava silovanja ne prestaje samim činom silovanja
The origins of the youth’s political trust in Southeastern Europe
IN ENGLISH: This paper examines the extent to which the perceived quality of institutional performance as an endogenous source of trust and political socialization as an exogenous source of trust determine the emergence of political trust among youth in ten Southeast European countries. It also sheds light on a relatively understudied factor in the formation of political trust: the relation towards the future of society, which is considered an exogenous source of trust. Endogenous origins, particularly satisfaction with democracy, dominate the formation of political trust, while exogenous aspects, presented as aspects of socialization, are less well represented, although still significant. This is especially true for interest in politics and, to some extent, societal optimism, which are important factors in the formation of political trust. --------------- IN CROATIAN: Ovaj rad ispituje mjeru u kojoj percipirana kvaliteta rada institucija kao endogeni izvor povjerenja i politička socijalizacija kao egzogeni izvor povjerenja određuju političko povjerenje mladih u deset zemalja jugoistočne Europe. Također, bavi se ulogom razmjerno neistraženog faktora u formiranju političkog povjerenja: odnosa prema budućnosti društva, koji se smatra egzogenim izvorom povjerenja. Endogeni izvori, posebice zadovoljstvo demokracijom, dominiraju u formiranju političkog povjerenja, dok su egzogeni izvori kao što su različiti aspekti socijalizacije, manje zastupljeni, ali ipak značajni. To se posebno odnosi na interes za politiku i, donekle, društveni optimizam, koji imaju značajnu ulogu u formiranju političkog povjerenja mladih u jugoistočnoj Europi
Utjecaj pandemije COVID-19 na turizam i održivost – nastavak istraživanja odabranih mjesta srednjodalmatinskih otoka Hvara i Brača
IN CROATIAN: U radu je prikazan nastavak istraživanja razvoja turizma na otocima oslanjajući se, iz-među ostalog, na studije slučaja raznih mjesta na otocima Hvaru i Braču. Istraživanja turističkih odrednica na otoku Braču, točnije u tri mjesta: Povlja, Postira i Bol (Zlatar, 2010; Tonković i Zlatar, 2014; Zlatar Gamberožić i Tonković, 2015; Zlatar Gamberožić i Svirčić Gotovac, 2021) i u gradu Hvaru na otoku Hvaru (Zlatar Gamberožić, 2021) analizirala su različite tipove razvoja u tim naseljima, od masovnog turizma preko održivog turizma do stagnacije. Specifičnost ovog istraživanja je analiza utjecaja pan-demije COVID-19 na odabrana naselja na Hvaru i Braču kao bitnog faktora na turi-zam prethodnih godina (2020. i 2021.). Ciljevi istraživanja su bili utvrditi trenutno stanje turizma u istraživanim mjestima na otocima, a s obzirom na socijalnu, ekološku, ekonomsku i kulturnu dimenziju održivosti te utjecaj pandemije COVID-19. Metoda istraživanja bili su polustrukturirani intervjui (metoda snježne grude - snowballmetoda i namjerni uzorak - purpose sampling) na otocima Hvaru (grad Hvar – 20 intervjua) i Braču (Povlja, Postira, Bol- 25 intervjua). Obuhvatilo se mišljenja sugovornika/ica o različitim temama vezanima uz turističko stanje i potencijalni razvoj turizma, a pogotovo s obzirom na utjecaj pandemije COVID-19. Aspekti (tematske cjeline) koji su bili analizirani su ekonomska, socijalna, ekološka i kulturna dimenzija održivosti te utjecaj i posljedice COVID-19 pandemije na turizam. U gradu Hvaru se pokazao povratak na stanje turizma prije pandemije te daljni razvoj masovnog turizma. Na Braču je situacija različita u svakom mjestu. Povlja i dalje trpe stagnaciju, s naglaskom na razvijanju ekološke i socijalne dimenzije, Postira se kreću prema masovnom tipu turizma s izgradnjom novog hotela, dok su u Bolu prisutne promjene zbog pandemije u vidu otvaranja novih tipova turističkih objekata, ali i registriranje prvih OPG-ova. Posljedice COVID-19 pandemije nisu se pokazale dugoročno prisutnima niti utjecaj-nima za već postojeće tipove turističkog razvoja u ovim mjestima. --------------- IN ENGLISH: The paper presents the continuation of research on the development of tourism on the islands, relying, among other things, on case studies of various places on the islan-ds of Hvar and Brač. Research of tourist destinations on the island of Brač, specifically in three places: Povlja, Postira and Bol (Zlatar, 2010; Tonković and Zlatar, 2014; Zlatar Gamberožić and Tonković, 2015; Zlatar Gamberožić and Svirčić Gotovac, 2021) and in the town of Hvar on the island of Hvar (Zlatar Gamberožić, 2021) analyzed diffe-rent types of development in these settlements, from mass tourism to sustainable tourism to stagnation. The specificity of this research is the analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on selected settlements on Hvar and Brač as an important factor on tourism in the previous years (2020 and 2021). The objectives of the resear-ch were to determine the current state of tourism in the researched locations on the islands, with regard to the social, ecological, economic and cultural dimensions of su-stainability and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The research method was se-mi-structured interviews (snowball method and purpose sampling) on the islands of Hvar (town of Hvar - 20 interviews) and Brač (Povlja, Postira, Bol - 25 interviews). The opinions of the respondents on various topics related to the tourism situation and the potential development of tourism were covered, especially with regard to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The aspects (thematic units) that were analyzed are the economic, social, ecological and cultural dimensions of sustainability and the impact and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism. The town of Hvar showed a return to the state of tourism before the pandemic and further development of mass tourism. On Brač, the situation is different in every place. Povlja continues to suffer stagnation, with an emphasis on developing the ecological and social dimension, Po-stira is moving towards a mass type of tourism with the construction of a new hotel, while in Bol there are changes due to the pandemic in the form of the opening of new types of tourist facilities, as well as the registration of the first OPGs. The consequ-ences of the COVID-19 pandemic did not prove to be long-term present or influential for the already existing types of tourism development in these places
The power of isolation
IN ENGLISH: This article investigates isolation as a complex physical and symbolic phenomenon. The studies presented in the article and in this special issue explore how isolation impacts identities, social cohesion, and community life – especially in times of ongoing and interconnected crises. The authors examine the multifaceted nature of isolation that in-forms daily practices, emotional wellbeing, and community bonds, offering insights into the challenges and resilience seen in isolated communities. --------------- IN CROATIAN: Ovaj članak istražuje izolaciju kao složen fizički i simbolički fenomen. Studije predstavljene u članku i ovom posebnom izdanju razmatraju kako izolacija utječe na identitete, društvenu koheziju i zajednički život – posebno u vremenima trajnih i međusobno povezanih kriza. Autori analiziraju višeslojnu prirodu izolacije koja oblikuje svakodnevne prakse, emocionalnu dobrobit i zajedničke veze, nudeći uvide u izazove i otpornost koje pokazuju izolirane zajednice
“Why didn’t anyone tell us this before?!”: integrating social, emotional and diversity awareness competencies into teacher professional development
Greater diversity in the classroom and different sources of threat to students’ and
teachers’ well-being have made the teaching profession even more demanding. To
support teachers in meeting their everyday responsibilities, without detriment to them‐
selves, their students or their colleagues, it is important to provide teachers with com‐
petencies with regard to how to deal with social, emotional and diversity-related career
challenges. Today’s teacher professional development should by no means neglect the
topics of well-being and diversity. Thus, in this chapter we focus on teachers’ social,
emotional and diversity awareness competencies and the possibilities for improving
them through teacher professional development. More specifically, we outline the base‐
line theory on social and emotional competencies, diversity awareness and related
concepts, with emphasis put on the importance of these competencies in the educa‐
tional context. We also summarise the evidence on the benefits of teacher professional
development that integrates social, emotional and diversity awareness competencies.
In the conclusion, we briefly point out the theory- and evidence-based features of
the programme developed within the project HAND in HAND: Empowering teachers
across Europe to deal with social, emotional and diversity-related career challenges
(“HAND:ET”)
Izazovi prilagodbe na posljedice klimatskih promjena – urbano-lokalna perspektiva iz četiri hrvatska grada
IN CROATIAN: Klimatske promjene po svojim karakteristikama predstavljaju kompleksan problem za čovječanstvo te su kao okolišni problem bez presedana. Procjenjuje se da su gradovi, odgovorni za 70% globalnih emisija CO2 povezanih s proizvodnjom energije, te oko 65% ukupne energetske potražnje. Upravo zbog toga u adaptaciji na klimatske promjene posebnu težinu nose gradovi te regionalne i lokalne zajednice. Pojam prilagodbe na klimatske promjene podrazumijeva promjenu ponašanja, djelovanja i donošenja odluka na način da ih se prilagodi potrebnim biološkim, društvenim i infrastrukturnim odgovorima na klimatske promjene. Pritom adaptacija ovisi o događajima koji su se dogodili ili o onima koji će se tek dogoditi. Razumijevanje trenutnih primjena adaptacijskih rješenja ovisi o višestruko isprepletenim načinima na koje ljudi doživljavaju klimatske promjene, nose se s njima ili pak imaju određeno znanje i/ili vjerovanje o njima. Cilj ovog rada je istražiti na koji način se prepoznaju i procjenjuju adaptivni izazovi i potencijali u borbi protiv klimatskih promjena iz perspektive gradova i regionalne administracije. U tu svrhu provedeno je kvalitativno istraživanje sa stručnjacima i stručnjakinjama relevantnim za teme borbe protiv klimatskih promjena u četiri hrvatska grada: Puli Slavonskom Brodu, Zadru i Zagrebu (N=45). U analizi je korišteno višerazinsko otvoreno kodiranje koje je omogućilo induktivnu konceptualizaciju osnovnih kategorija na temelju kojih je napravljena tematska analiza koja je omogućila strukturiranje prikaza dobivenih rezultata u cjelovit narativ o adaptaciji lokalnih zajednica na klimatske promjene. --------------- IN ENGLISH: Due to its characteristics, climate change represents a complex problem for humanity and an unprecedented environmental issue. It is estimated that cities are responsible for 70% of global CO2 emissions related to energy production and around 65% of total energy demand. For this very reason, cities as well as regional and local communities have a special role to play in adapting to climate change. The concept of adaptation to climate change implies a change in behavior, actions and decision-making in a way that helps them better adapt their biological, social and infrastructural responses to climate change. At the same time, adaptation depends on the events that have already occurred or will occur. Understanding the current applications of adaptation solutions depends on the multiple interrelated ways in which people experience, deal with or have certain knowledge and/or beliefs about climate change. The aim of this paper is to investigate how adaptation challenges and potentials in the fight against climate change are recognized and evaluated from the perspective of cities and regional administrations. For this purpose, a qualitative research was conducted with experts on the fight against climate change in four Croatian cities: Pula, Slavonski Brod, Zadar and Zagreb (N=45). Multilevel open coding was used in the analysis, which enabled the inductive conceptualization of basic categories, on the basis of which a thematic analysis was conducted, which made it possible to structure the obtained results into a complete narrative about the adaptation of local communities to climate change
Psihičko zdravlje mladih u pandemiji
Bolest Covid-19 je, počevši od svoje prve pojave u Kini krajem 2019. godine, počela mijenjati
živote ljudi iz cijeloga svijeta. Osim što je takva zdravstvena kriza značajno narušila fizičko
zdravlje populacije, jednako snažno je utjecala i na ono psihičko. Budući da su adolescenti
populacija posebno osjetljiva na promjene izazvane pandemijom bolesti COVID – 19, u ovom
smo se istraživanju usmjerili specifično na njih. Cilj našeg istraživanja bio je utvrditi koji su
rizični i zaštitni čimbenici igrali ulogu u određivanju psihičkog zdravlja adolescenata. Podaci
korišteni u ovom istraživanju prikupljeni su putem upitnika koji su bili distribuirani po školama
diljem Republike Hrvatske. Naš se uzorak sastoji od 9054 šesnaestogodišnjaka. Od
instrumenata korištene su čestice kojom su ispitani opći, odnosno sociodemografski podaci,
Ljestvica optimizma (LOT-R) i skraćena verzija Upitnika mentalnog zdravlja (MHC-SF).
Provedena je hijerarhijska regresijska analiza u kojoj su korištena tri modela prediktora: prvi
model činile su varijable – život na potresom pogođenom području, vrsta srednjoškolskog
programa, rod, završeni stupanj obrazovanja majke i završeni stupanj obrazovanja oca; drugi
model činila je kompozitna varijabla kojom se mjerio utjecaj pandemije na različite aspekte
života, a u treći model uvrštena je skala optimizma (LOT-R). Navedenim prediktorima objasnili
smo ukupno 37,6% varijance psihičkog zdravlja adolescenata tijekom pandemije, koje je
izmjereno MHC – SF skalom. Život na potresom pogođenom području pokazao se jedinim
statistički značajnim negativnim prediktorom, dok su se muški rod, manji negativni utjecaj
pandemije na različite aspekte života i viši rezultat na skali optimizma pokazali statistički
značajnim pozitivnim prediktorima. Ovi nalazi ukazuju nam na postojanje čimbenika koji mogu
doprinijeti razlikama u psihičkom zdravlju adolescenata u kriznim vremenima, poput onih
pandemijskih. Na to stoga valja obratiti pozornost prilikom rada s ovom populacijom, kao i
prilikom formiranja te implementiranja politika vezanih uz zaštitu psihičkog zdravlja mladih
Differences in neighbourhood equipment between socialist and post-socialist housing estates in Croatia and Slovenia
IN ENGLISH: The study analyses differences in the quality of neighbourhood equipment between socialist (old) and post-socialist (new) large housing estates in Croatia and Slovenia. A total of 2,193 participants from the four largest cities in Croatia (Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, and Osijek) and the two largest cities in Slovenia (Ljubljana and Maribor) were surveyed in 2022. Satisfaction with neighbourhood equipment was evaluated based on the following aspects of the housing estate: accessibility of primary and secondary services and facilities as well as overall satisfaction with the estate. Residents, regardless of the country, Croatia or Slovenia, and the type of estate, were generally satisfied with all key aspects of the housing estates. The results also indicated a generally higher urbanistic standard in both types of estates in Slovenia compared to those in Croatia. Furthermore, indicators of satisfaction with neighbourhood equipment generally demonstrated weak correlations with residents’ individual characteristics – gender, age, tenure, and length of residence in the estate. In accordance with the initial assumption, socialist estates were not rated worse overall compared to post-socialist housing estates. --------------- IN CROATIAN: Studija analizira razlike u zadovoljstvu kvalitetom opremljenosti socijalističkih (starih) i postsocijalističkih (novih) velikih stambenih naselja u Hrvatskoj i Sloveniji. Anketno istraživanje provedeno je 2022. godine na ukupnom uzorku od 2193 sudionika iz četiriju najvećih gradova u Hrvatskoj (Zagreb, Split, Rijeka i Osijek) i dvaju najvećih gradova u Sloveniji (Ljubljana i Maribor). Zadovoljstvo opremljenošću naselja procijenjeno je prema aspektima dostupnosti primarnih i sekundarnih usluga i sadržaja kao i prema općem zadovoljstvu naseljem. Stanovnici su općenito bili zadovoljni svim ključnim aspektima stambenih naselja, bez obzira na državu ili vrstu naselja. Rezultati su također pokazali općenito viši urbanistički standard u objema vrstama naselja u Sloveniji u usporedbi s onima u Hrvatskoj. Nadalje, pokazatelji zadovoljstva opremljenošću naselja općenito su bili u niskim korelacijama s individualnim karakteristikama stanara – spolom, dobi, stambenim statusom i duljinom stanovanja u naselju. U skladu s početnom pretpostavkom, socijalistička stambena naselja općenito nisu bila lošije ocijenjena od naselja iz postsocijalističkog perioda
Gordana Bosanac
IN CROATIAN: U radu se iznose biografski i bibliografski podaci o hrvatskoj filozofkinji i znanstvenici Gordani Bosanac. Također, analizirane su njezine glavne filozofske teme i motivi: utopija, utopizam, inauguralni paradoks, feminizam i antifeminizam. Akademska karijera Gordane Bosanac obilovala je brojnim istraživačkim temama, od kojih su neke bez svake sumnje bile predmetom njezina interesa, a neke, kako je sama isticala, rezultatom karijerne prisile. Ovo, kako ga je nazivala, "predmetno svaštarenje" smatrala je glavnom preprekom u bavljenju filozofijom mogućem jedino uz fokusirano, ničim ometano i dugotrajno izučavanje. Iako ju je život, dakle, skrenuo u sociološkom i komunikološkom smjeru, njezina su razmišljanja i pisanja nerijetko uključivala filozofsku komponentu. Literatura koju je čitala, ljudi kojima se okruživala, predavanja i tribine koje je pohađala uvijek su imali veze s filozofijom, zbog čega si je obećala doktorirati filozofiju. Nažalost, vremena, životne okolnosti, na kraju i zdravstvena ograničenja spriječili su je u tom pothvatu. Unatoč tomu, ona je oduvijek bila duhom filozofkinja te se svojoj velikoj ljubavi odužila pišući najvrjednija (filozofska) djela u razdoblju kada je karijera i životne okolnosti nisu odvlačile u drugim smjerovima – u mirovini. --------------- IN ENGLISH: This paper presents biographical and bibliographical details about the Croatian philosopher and scientist Gordana Bosanac. It also explores her key philosophical themes and motifs, including utopia, utopianism, the inaugural paradox, feminism, and antifeminism. Bosanac’s academic career spanned a wide range of research topics—some of which were driven by her genuine interests, while others, as she herself acknowledged, were the result of career pressures. She referred to this "subject-matter dabbling" as the primary obstacle to engaging deeply in philosophy, which she believed could only be pursued through focused, uninterrupted, and long-term study. Although her career ultimately led her toward sociology and communication, philosophy remained an ever-present influence in her thoughts and writings. The books she read, the people she associated with, and the lectures and forums she attended were always intertwined with philosophical ideas. This connection fueled her ambition to earn a doctorate in philosophy, a goal she was forced to abandon due to the constraints of time, life circumstances, and health. Nevertheless, at heart, Bosanac remained a philosopher. In her retirement, when life’s demands no longer diverted her, she returned to her philosophical roots and produced some of her most significant philosophical works, paying tribute to the discipline she loved so deeply
Teachers’ social and emotional competencies and their role in occupational well-being
IN ENGLISH: The teaching profession is characterised by high levels ofstress and numerous emotional challenges, especially in the early stages of a career. Previous research suggests that teachers’ social and emotional competencies(SEC) are related to their occupational well-being as they influence the way they cope with everyday emotional challenges at work. This points to the role of SEC as potential psychological resources that can mitigate negative outcomes such as burnout and leaving the profession among teachers in the early stages of their career. However, research in this area is still scarce and it is unclear how certain SEC are related to different aspects of occupational well-being and commitment to the teaching profession. The aim of this paper is to review conceptual frameworks of SEC and existing research in the field, discuss the role they play in education and compare them with related constructs in the domain of individual differences. Furthermore, it will provide an overview of research on teachers’ occupational well-being and examine the relevance of teachers’ SEC for outcomes such as burnout, work engagement, and job satisfaction. The paper will conclude by examining methodological aspects of SEC assessment and review challenges and directions for future research. ------------- IN CROATIAN: Učiteljska je profesija obilježena visokim razinama stresa i mnogobrojnim emocionalnim izazovima, posebno u ranoj fazi karijere. Dosadašnja istraživanja sugeriraju da su socioemocionalne kompetencije učitelja povezane s njihovom profesionalnom dobrobiti jer utječu na način suočavanja sa svakodnevnim emocionalnim izazovima na poslu. To može upućivati na ulogu socio-emocionalnih kompetencija kao potencijalnih psiholoških resursa koji mogu ublažiti negativne ishode poput sagorijevanja i napuštanja profesije kod učitelja u ranoj fazi karijere. Međutim, istraživanja u ovome području još su uvijek malobrojna te je nejasno kako su pojedine socio-emocionalne kompetencije povezane s različitim aspektima profesionalne dobrobiti i odanošću učiteljskoj profesiji. Cilj je ovoga rada ponuditi pregled konceptualnih okvira socioemocionalnih kompetencija i postojećih istraživanja u tome području, raspraviti o njihovoj ulozi u obrazovanju i usporediti ih sa srodnim konstruktima u domeni individualnih razlika. Nadalje, rad će pružiti pregled istraživanja profesionalne dobrobiti učitelja i relevantnosti učiteljskih socioemocionalnih kompetencija za ishode kao što su sagorijevanje, angažiranost i zadovoljstvo poslom. Na kraju rada bit će predstavljeni metodološki aspekti mjerenja socio-emocionalnih kompetencija te osvrt na izazove i smjernice za buduća istraživanja
