This paper brings student design solution using computer graphic in order to raise awareness of existing pandemic of Covid 19. The main idea and the goal for the students and teachers was to create graphic solution to inform public about the new virus and the consequences. The posters had to be conceived in the way to have proactive and positive influence on the public. At the same time the questionnaire was used to proof the reaction of present generation of students to such way of making us as the society conscious of the pandemic. The questionnaire was performed using social networks in order to gain answers and results regarding the student design solution as the way to confront the pandemic. Contemporary social networking sites again proofed to be the media of the generation and the means to fight through pandemic. This paper and design solution offer some other way that this social network generation would better react to. The results presented in this paper show the social engagement and digital visualization encouraged by the consequences of the disease and the effort of the students to make society aware of the Covid 19

The Visegrád Group – a united front against a common European narrative?

    Get PDF
IN ENGLISH: The perception of the Visegrád Group has changed since the beginning of the migrant crisis in 2015. For some the group now represents a sort of “united front against a common European narrative”. This paper challenges the superficiality of such a notion by identifying the ideological components of a “united V4” narrative and examining the extent to which both the ruling parties and the citizens of member countries agree with them. The main finding is that ruling political parties cluster into distinct two groups, the Czech and Slovak bloc being more moderate than the Polish and Hungarian group. The citizens of these countries can neither be clustered in a similar way, nor are they homogenous in their views, except to some extent on immigration matters. Also, citizens do not on average hold the same positions as their current governments.

--------------- IN ENGLISH: In the first research phase of the bilateral project with Slovenia titled Quality of living in the Housing Estates of the socialist and post-socialist era: a comparative analysis between Slovenia and Croatia (2020.-2023.) a questionnaire survey was conducted with representatives of co-owners of multi-apartment residential buildings in Croatia. The co-owners' representatives play an important role of mediators between tenants, as owners of apartments, and building management companies in the process of management, maintenance and improvement of the quality of buildings in which they reside. It was therefore the intention of this research to analyse and explore this target population. Nevertheless, systematical research on them and the context in which the process of managing and maintaining of multi-apartment buildings is carried out in the Republic of Croatia is almost non-existent. The conducted research is a contribution to the professional and scientific analysis of this process, and of the entire domain of housing problems in Croatia. The aim of the questionnaire was to gather (initial) information and insights into the problems of building quality, life quality and maintenance and management of buildings, as well as the possibilities of energy efficiency renovation of multi-apartment buildings in Croatia. The empirical survey was conducted on an appropriate sample of co-owners' representatives (N = 353) by employing the questionnaire method. The obtained results were presented according to three age categories of multi-apartment buildings: those built before 1945, those from the socialist period (between 1945 and 1990), and from the post-socialist period (after 1990). The housing stock built between 1945 and 1990 is assessed as satisfactory in the housing sense. The contentment of co-owners' representatives with the buildings is the lowest in the category of buildings built before 1945. The paper concludes that insufficient financial funds, non-understanding of the meaning of co-ownership over common property shares, insufficient engagement of building managers and a vague legal framework are some of the most important problems that co-owners and co-owners' representatives are facing in their work

A comparative study of barriers to mentoring student and new teachers

IN ENGLISH: Mentoring is widely believed to be beneficial to mentors and mentees in the teacher education context. However, mentoring as a tool for strengthening professional knowledge is not without barriers hindering its effectiveness. This paper explores common barriers in mentoring, drawing on studies conducted in Croatia, Ireland, and Scotland which have been re-analyzed for this paper. The two studies conducted in Scotland used a mixed-methods approach, the Croatian study was conducted using a quantitative approach, while the Irish research employed a qualitative strategy. Data from the four published studies were re-analyzed and integrated using a qualitative thematic approach with three groups of themes emerging as the most common barriers to mentoring in teacher education. These groups of themes are: interests, values and motives; power, status and position; and information and communication. The study explores these themes and concludes with the implications for stakeholders, including school management, universities, and student teachers.

    Get PDF
--------------- IN ENGLISH: Fixed-term employment, despite a slight decrease over the past few years, continues to be the dominant form of precarious employment in Croatia, significantly more frequent than it was during the first two decades of the transition, and significantly above the European average. Although the European Directive on fixed-term work and the Labour Act define fixed-term contract as an exception, in Croatia, between one-sixth and one-fourth of the total number of workers have fixed-term contracts, according to administrative data, and depending on the data source and the season. The purpose of the contributions in this book is to analyse the position of temporary employees in Croatia from different disciplinary perspectives, based on several analytical sources, and to identify the aspects of marginalization of workers engaged in this form of employment. For this purpose, the authors provided an overview of existing literature on this topic, which was created in Croatia over the past two decades. Furthermore, based on standardized European sources, they presented changes in the incidence, structure and characteristics of temporary employment in Croatia since 2007. In addition, the main areas of the European Directive and its implementation in Croatia were analysed, that is, the elements of legal regulation of temporary employment. In order to examine the differences in the working conditions of workers employed on fixed-term and indefinite contracts, the authors analysed the data from national representative surveys that were part of the projects of the Union of Autonomous Trade Unions of Croatia (UATAC) conducted in 2018 and 2019. The book also presents the results of a purposeful survey conducted as part of the project "Work Fit for People", with a special emphasis on the forms and outcomes of fixed-term employment, experiences of unequal treatment and discrimination in relation to comparable workers, as well as an assessment of the unfavourable effects of fixed-term work on other aspects of life. The findings gathered in this publication indicate that temporary work in Croatia today is less than ever an exception, often not resulting in permanent jobs. The analyses presented in this publication suggest often more unfavourable working conditions and unequal treatment of such workers, pointing even to the negative consequences of this type of work on other aspects of life

Main challenges of post-earthquake renovation in the case of Zagreb city center

    Get PDF
IN ENGLISH: This paper presents the results of a research on the problems and challenges of post-earthquake renovation in the inner city center of Zagreb, where mostly older, historical buildings are situated, which were severely damaged in the 2020 earthquake. Almost two years after the earthquake, political actors have not been able to make much progress regarding the post-earthquake renovation, which has caused discontent among vulnerable citizens. This paper presents the results of a qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews with owners of damaged apartments and co-owners? representatives. The authors found two main issues with the post-earthquake renovation in Zagreb: 1) incomplete renovation and problems with the financing of repairs to damaged buildings, and 2) people moving out of the city center and city apartmanization. The results showed that the cost of damage repair in most cases was covered by the citizens themselves and that institutional help has been slow and bureaucratized. Also, the participation process regarding renovation has not been successful for the citizens and they are still dealing with similar problems as in the beginning of the renovation.

Exploring dropout risk in higher education in Croatia: an empirical analysis

    Get PDF
IN ENGLISH: The study examines the association of social background, academic-related and institution-related factors with indicators of higher education dropout risk, i.e. students' perceived probability of graduating and their consideration of leaving their studies. Bivariate analysis and multilevel logistic models were used to analyse data from 1533 students from 25 study programs of the University of Zagreb, Croatia. The results confirmed the assumption that higher education dropout risk may be associated with different factors (i.e. social background, academic and institution-related characteristics), but also that there may be differences regarding the two indicators of perceived dropout risk. Moreover, the analysis revealed that perceived dropout risk may be viewed as part of a process of self-selection in which a combination of different factors leads a student to withdraw from higher education. Accordingly, the impact of the covariates of dropout risk should not be viewed only relative to each other, but should be evaluated in the context of educational decision-making net of academic ability.
