    Get PDF
Tuberculosis is an universal health problem worldwide. In Iraq the problem is aggravated by drug resistance. In Silico studies usually pave the way for more investigations of the real problem .On the other hand Mycobacterium tuberculosis does not lend itself for deep wet lab studies, therefore, In Silico studies must precede many aspects of experimental work. In Silico studies were carried out using most virulent strain and a model of studies M. tuberculosis H37Rv to investigate some of the hypothetical proteins which compromised about 39% of the annotated proteins. The studied Rv hypothetical proteins were distributed among cellular compartment fractions with high existence in the cytoplasmic fraction (about 67%). Major function prediction of these proteins were found in cellular process section using different approaches of predictions .However , some of these proteins were still await to be included in the important databases such as COG and GO which concerned mainly with function annotation

Health Promoting Effects of Phytochemicals from Brassicaceae: A Review

    Get PDF
Over the past several years, natural antioxidants have attracted considerable interest as potential treatment for a wide variety of disease states, including cancer and other causes e.g. chronic inflammatory diseases and aging. Therefore, plant derived antioxidants are now receiving a special attention as they possess good antioxidant properties and hence a worldwide trend towards the use of natural phytochemicals present in fruits and vegetables have been reported. Numerous epidemiological studies indicate that consumption of cruciferous vegetables is associated with prevention of cardiovascular diseases and reduced incidence of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and other sites. The substances that seem to be responsible for these properties are phenolic compounds (phenolic acids, flavonoids, polyphenols etc.) and sulphur-containing organic compound glucosinolates and their derived products. The present review focuses on the health promoting effects of phytochemicals and their beneficial bioactivities in Brassicaceae

The root of Rotula aquatica is also called as pashanbed, belonging to the family Borogenaceae. It is widely distributed in India from kumaun to Assam and western to southern India. The medicinal values of plant lie in their component phytochemicals such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds and other nutrients like as amino acid, proteins, which produce a definite physiological action on the human body. The proximate values such as moisture content, ash value, extractive value, were carried out. The dried roots powder was subjected to successive extraction with different solvents like petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, methanol, ethanol and water. Macroscopic as well as microscopic studies of any crude drug are the primary steps to establish its botanical quality control before going to other studies. Hence Standardization of crude drug plays a very important role in identifying the purity and quality of crude drugs. The present investigation reveals Standardization which include Moisture Content, Total ash, Acid insoluble ash, Water soluble ash, Water soluble Extractive value, Alcohol soluble Extractive value, Phytochemical screening, and further isolation and identification of Phytoconstituents

Maximum ascorbic acid contents were found in the fruits of Capparis decidua (108.12mg/100g.d.w.) while, minimum in the roots of Cleome viscosa (62.25mg/100g.d.w)

Prediction of Outcome in ICU Patients Using SAPS II Scoring-A Prospective Study

    No full text
Introduction: Since 1981, several severity scores have been proposed for ICU patients. The first ones were acute physiology and chronic health evaluation(APACHE, APACHEII),Simplified acute physiology score (SAPS); later, mortality probability model(MPM) and APACHE III were introduced. The SAPS II scoring system, have been used as a method for converting the score to a probability of hospital mortality. The present prospective study is designed to predict the ICU outcome in medical ICU patients. Objective of the Study: To predict the mortality and morbidity of the patients admitted in ICU for various emergencies using SAPS II scoring system and correlate it with the outcome of the patient on discharge. Materials and Methods: The study prospective type, data was obtained from the patients admitted to ICU ,SAPS II scoring was given and were followed up till they got discharged to assess the outcome .Results:45 patients were studied the total mortality was 26.6%. The SAPS II Scores of the patients and the number of deaths in the different groups are given in table below. The chi-square value was 23.04, df= 6with a p + 0.0007 and this study is well within the p value of 0.05, hence it is significant which means the higher the score the more is the risk of morbidity and mortality, when score is >50 there is increased risk of morbidity and mortality, when score is >50 there is increased risk of mortality. Conclusion:The present study imposes on the following conclusions -SAPS II scoring is useful in predicting the ICU outcome of patients admitted in the ICU even when the primary diagnosis is not specified

Pulsatile release profile is characterized by a lag time followed by rapid and complete drug release. Pulsatile drug delivery systems are classified into time-controlled and site-specific delivery systems. The lag time is taken as the time of less than 10% drug release. The objective of present study was to develop a pulsatile compression coated tablet. The system was developed into two steps i.e. firstly core tablet was prepared containing Nifidipine; secondly core tablet was coated with polymer blend of ethyl cellulose (water insoluble polymer) and Eudragit L 100 (Enteric polymer). From the study it was concluded that the formulation having a coating level of 50% w/w of core and weight ratio of ethyl cellulose to Eudragit L 100 (20%) showed lesser release profile as compared to other formulation i.e. 52.83% in 12hrs. As we increase the weight ratio of ethyl cellulose to Eudragit L 100 better entrapment of drug leading to controlled release of drug

    Aflatoxin Contamination in Agricultural Commodities

    Get PDF
Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring Mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. Aspergillus flavus is common and widespread in nature and is most often found when certain grains are grown under stressful conditions such as draught. The mold occurs in soil, decaying vegetation, hay and grains undergoing microbiological deterioration and invades all types of organic substrates whenever and wherever the conditions are favourable for its growth. Favourable conditions include high moisture content and high temperature. The aflatoxin group is comprised of aflatoxin B1,B2,G1 and G2. In addition , aflatoxin M1 (AFM1), a hydroxylated metabolite of AFB1, is excreted in the milk of dairy cows consuming an AFB1-contaminated ration. Aflatoxin B1 a prototype of the aflatoxins, is widely recognized as the most potent hepato carcinogenic compound and along with other certain members of the group, possess additional toxic properties including mutagenicity, tetrogenicity, acute cellular toxicity and it suppresses the immune system. Aflatoxin contamination of food and feed has gained global significance as a result of its deleterious effects on human as well as animal health. The marketability of food products is adversely affected by aflatoxin contamination
