    Get PDF
In the present study, design of oral immediate release tablets of Valsartan by direct compression technique was carried out. The main aim and objective of the work is to formulate immediate release tablets using different direct compression vehicles (DCV’S) in different ratios. The main motive is to compare the dissolution profile of these formulations and conclude the best formulation which release drug at a faster rate. To determine the best fit dissolution profile for the dosage forms. Valsartan tablets were formulated by using microcrystalline cellulose (diluents), potato starch, acacia (binder) and magnesium stearate (lubricant). The granules were compressed into tablets and were subjected to dissolution studies. The dissolution profile of the formulation F2 was found to have better dissolution rate compared to others. The In-vitro dissolution studies of all the formulations were conducted and the results were obtained, it was concluded that formulation F2 was the best with fast release of drug compared to others

    Get PDF
Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of intravaginal misoprostol with intracervical dinoprostone for preinduction cervical ripening. Material andMethods: It was a randomized controlled trial conducted at department of obstetrics and gynecology, JIPMER, Puducherry. Three hundred women with Bishop score of 6, were assigned randomly to receive either intravaginal misoprostol 25 μg every four hours for four doses, and intracervical dinoprostone gel 0.5 mg every eight hours for two doses. (one hundred women in each group). Oxytocin was initiated as per standardized protocol, if the cervix was favourable. If the cervical ripening was unsuccessful (Bishop score 6) after the maximum doses of drugs in both the groups, then further treatment was individualized. Efficacy and cost of the drugs were compared in both groups. Results: Primary outcome measure was change in Bishop score. Mean Bishop score change at the end of 16 hours was significantly higher in the misoprostol group, (2.57±0.59) compared to dinoprostone group (2.17±0.10, p=0.016). This finding was inspite of the fact that the dinoprostone group had higher Bishop score prior to the ripening.(3.55±0.56 vs 3.28±0.77, p=0.006). Secondary outcome measures such as mean intervention-delivery interval, oxytocin requirement, mode of delivery, maternal and neonatal outcomes were similar in both the groups. Overall mean cost of ripening agent per patient was significantly less in the misoprostol group, (22.56±93.16 rupees) compared to dinoprostone group (493.89±173.99 rupees, p0.0001).Conclusion: Low dose misoprostol is as effective as dinoprostone in cervical ripening and demonstrates similar fetal and maternal safety profile

    Get PDF
This study focuses on the characterization of morphological and anatomical traits of Orthosiphon stamineus which belongs to the Lamiaceae family. Orthosiphon stamineus, better known as “Misai Kucing” or “cats whiskers” by the locals, contained active phenolics compounds such as flavanoids. Despite its wide usage as a medicinal plant, information regarding Orthosiphon stamineus specific developmental stages is relatively scarce. Furthermore, to date, no anatomical data of this plant is available. Therefore, this study aims to systematically identify the developmental stages and its anatomy which may provide more insight to its medical application. The result showed some distinct morphological and anatomical characteristics. In the morphological study, it was observed that Orthosiphon stamineus is a herbal shrub with well-developed creeping rootstock. The leaves are simple, green, and arranged in opposite pairs. The stem is approximately 28 cm in height at the stage (12 days). The flowers have long wispy stamens shaped with pale purple color. In anatomical study, the cross sections of the stem for tow stage (32) and (62) days of this plant were examined. All the detailed systematic study of this plant has not worked earlier

Evaluation of Serum Adenosine Deaminase and Retinol in patients with Laryngeal Cancer

    Get PDF
Laryngeal cancers account for 4% of all head and neck cancers in India. The disease process has better prognosis if it is diagnosed early. In view of this the objective of the study was to assess the reliability of serum enzyme marker adenosine deaminase and non-enzymatic antioxidant retinol in laryngeal cancer patients as supportive parameters for diagnostic purpose. Materials and methods:-25 clinically and histopathologically confirmed patients of laryngeal cancer in age group of 45-65 years were included in the study and 25 healthy subjects with in the same age group served as controls. Results:-The level of serum ADA was significantly elevated in laryngeal cancer patients in comparison to controls whereas retinol levels were significantly decreased. Conclusion: - Lipid per-oxidation as a result of cancer leads to membrane damage and an increase in cytoplasmic ADA. It is also associated with a decrease in levels of non-enzymatic antioxidant retinol. These biochemical parameters may be used as supportive parameters for diagnostic purpose and may add further for prognostic information. Further studies are required on a larger sample size to explore strategies by which normal levels of anti-oxidant can be maintained by a retinol rich diet which may play a role in reducing the morbidity and mortality due to cancer
