Development and Validation of Dual Wavelength UV Spectrophotometric Method for simultaneous estimation of Cilnidipine and Olmesartan Medoxomil in Tablet dosage form
A simple and economical dual wavelength spectrophotometric method has been developed for the simultaneous estimation of Cilnidipine and Olmesartan Medoxomil in their tablet dosage form. The principle for dual wavelength method is “the absorbance difference between two points on the overlain spectra is directly proportional to the concentration of the component of interest”. From the UV absorption spectrum of Cilnidipine, three wavelengths were selected, which were 282.99, 337.85 and 352.92 nm. At 352.92 nm only Cilnidipine has reasonable absorbance, so it was selected for the estimation of it from combination drug product. At these two wavelengths absorbance for Cilnidipine was found to be same i.e. absorbance difference was zero for any concentration, while for Olmesartan Medoxomil concomitantly increase in absorbance difference with increase in its concentration. So, 282.99 and 337.85 nm wavelengths were selected for the estimation of Olmesartan Medoxomil from its combination drug product. The method involved solving of an equation based on measurement of absorbances at two wavelengths 282.99 and 337.85 nm. Regression analysis of Beer’s plots showed good correlation in concentration range of 10-60 μg/ml for Cilnidipine and 20-120 μg/ml for Olmesartan Medoxomil. The suitability of this method was for quantitative determination of Cilnidipine and Olmesartan Medoxomil was proved by validation and recovery study. The proposed method was found to be simple, rapid, economical, accurate and reproducible for the routine analysis of both drugs in tablet dosage forms

Comparative Evaluation of semisolid bases for transdermal use of Ketorolac tromethamine
Ketorolac tromethamine (KT) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to class of heteroacetyl derivatives. An attempt has been made to make use of ointments, creams and gels as suitable vehicles for KT, which will released the drug effectively on surface when applied topically. Formulations belongs to ointment, cream and gel bases containing 1% KT were prepared and were evaluated for physiochemical parameters like physical appearance, pH, viscosity, spreadability, drug content. Drug release was also studied by in-vitro techniques. Viscosity was found highest in ointment formulation F3 Gel formulation showed better extrudability and spreadability as compared to ointment and creams. Gel formulation showed better release as compared to ointment and creams
Antimicrobial activity of flavonoids from in vitro tissue culture and plant parts of two plant species of Western Rajasthan
Extract of flavonoids from plant parts and callus tissues of Glinus lotoides (molluginaceae) and Psoralea odorata (fabaceae) were screened against microbes’ viz., Bacillus cerus, Escherchia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans adopting disc diffusion method. Results were compared with the zone of inhibition produced by commercially available standard antibiotics. Maximum activity was observed in flavonoid of callus tissue as compared to plant parts of both plant species
Current understanding on venous leg ulcer
Venous leg ulcer (VLU) or stasis ulcer is a relatively common, chronic and recurring problem. Besides being costly to the health-care system, it significantly impairs the quality of life of the patients. Nearly 1% of adults and 3.6% of older patients are reported to suffer from this chronic condition. Chronic venous insufficiency is considered to be the predominant cause of VLU. The most recent theories associate the pathogenesis of venous ulcer with microcirculatory abnormalities and generation of an inflammatory response. The pharmacological treatment for VLU is based on the pathogenesis and often includes diosmin, pentoxifylline, diuretics as well as antibiotics and the non-pharmacological treatment like compression and skin grafting. VLU has a high rate of recurrence and requires self-care to avoid relapse. Treatment of VLU should always focus for complete treatment, and improve quality of life for patients along with minimum relapse. In recent years novel therapeutic approaches for venous ulcers have offered valuable tools for the management of patients with this disorder
Synthesis, Characterization and evaluation of Anti-inflammatory and Analgesic activity of Benzothiazole derivatives
A parent benzothiazole nucleus was synthesized by para amino acetanilide, then it is subjected to treatment with various substituted aromatic aldehydes to get the corresponding Schiff’s bases followed by treatment with pthalic anhydride to form 2-(6- acetamidobenzo[d]thiazol-2-ylcarbamoyl)benzoic acid. The structures of synthesized compounds were confirmed by various spectroscopic methods such as IR, 1H NMR and mass spectroscopy. The products were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities. Some of the compounds exhibited potent activities when compared with the standards
Quality control parameters of Gandhakadi Yoga tablets W. S. R. To its microscopic evaluation
Gandhakadi Yoga is a formulation suggested for Loha Sevanajanya Vikara Prashamana (Iron overload) in Ayurveda Prakasha and can be used as iron chelator which might help to decrease the iron overload. The present study was carried out to standardize the finished product Gandhakadi Yoga tablets for confirmation of its identity, quality and purity. Thus a trial was made to establish the Quality assessing parameters for Gandhakadi Yoga tablets by simple microscopic technique. The characters i.e. black debris of Gandhaka treated with Bhringaraja, light yellow brown content of Gandhaka, fragment of spongy parenchyma of Agastya leaf, oil globules and epicarp cells with tannin content of Vidanga etc. were the characteristic features of the finished product
Variants of Tribulus species – a scientific study through DNA RAPD – molecular characterization
Gokshura a well-known drug in Ayurveda which is extensively used in many disease conditions like dysuria, asthma, diabetes, cough, oedema, cardiac disorders etc. Tribulus terrestris (Family – Zygophyllaceae) is an official source of Gokshura as per API. Five species of genus Tribulus are found throughout India with a slight morphological difference. In this study, three different species of Tribulus genus from different regions were subjected for molecular characterization by RAPD method. Analysis showed that three different samples gave clearly similar banding pattern with each of the random primers used and 80% similarity between the three samples were observed when the results were subjected to band scoring and analysis with clustering. Even through the micromorpholgical observations showed differentiating characters in mature carpels and intrastaminal glands of the selected species
Morphological responses of a high yielding groundnut cultivar (Arachis hypogaea L. cv. K-134 ) under water stress
The present study was undertaken to ascertain the morphological responses of a groundnut cultivar K-134, under different water stress regimes characterized as control, mild, moderate and severe stress represented by 100, 75, 50 and 25% soil moisture levels respectively for eight days. Root length increased over control at mild, moderate stress treatments and inhibited at severe stress conditions on all days of sampling. Severe stress treatments had caused significant inhibition in shoot growth on day-4 and 8. The fresh and dry weights of roots and leaves and leaf area decreased over control in all stress treatments except under mild stress on day-4. The changes in theses parameters were dependent on stress severity and duration
Expulsion by Ionic Complexation: Benchmark Therapy for Atherosclerosis A Review
Ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) chelation therapy has been practiced since longtime for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, alone or in combination with other treatments. It has been recommended as a harmless, relatively inexpensive and non-surgical method of restoring blood flow in atherosclerotic vessels. Ability of EDTA to form complex with heavy metals like calcium, lead, copper is used to remove calcium from arthrosclerosis plaques which ultimately improves the condition. It can be concluded that chelation therapy is emerging form of complementary or alternative medicine to surgery and can be used in safe manner. Still there is insufficient evidence to decide on the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of chelation therapy in improving clinical outcomes of patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease
