    A Comprehensive Overview of Celastrus paniculatus Seed Oil Intended for the Management of Human Ailments

    Celastrus paniculatus belonging to the family Celastraceae generally known as the black oil plant or Malkangani or Jyotishmati. The scrambling through a yellowish corky bark, climbing poly gamodioecious category of shrub requires support to climbs up and distributed almost all over India at the altitude of 2000 m. The seeds are also reported as anxiolytic and anticonvulsant properties, while the root and its bark considered being useful for the treatment of malaria, cancer, and brain-tonic. Plant of Jyotishmati are broadly used in the Ayurvedic system of the medicine to cure many diseases such as; appetizer, aphrodisiac, arthritis, asthma, antipyretic, amenorrhea, anti-inflammatory, acrid, arthralgia, beriberi, cardiotonic, diuretic, diaphoretic, depression, emollient, skin-diseases, paralysis, thermogenic, intellect-promoting, emetic, expectorant, leprosy, leucoderma, cephalalgia, nephropathy, abdominal disorders, sores abortifacient, and treatment of the snake bite. These plants are naturally used in the treatment of vaginal discharge, a sensation of burning, blood purification after delivery, menstruation cycle, and abortion. The seed oil contains steroid alkaloids and bright natural coloring matter, celapanine, celapanigine, celapagine, celastrine, and paniculatine are the important alkaloids. It contains the fatty acid it’s in founding; oleic acid (54.42%), palmitic acid (20.0%), linoleic acid (15.51%), and stearic acid (4.18%). The sesquiterpene alkaloids are derived from a new sesquiterpene (celapanol) which is alternately esterified by acetic, benzoic, nicotinic, and β- furoic acids

    Development of new Nanocomposite by using bagasse dust and polyaniline for removal of heavy metal ions from Pharma industry effluent

    Nanotechnology has given the opportunity to the researcher for developing new nano-composites in all field including, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, electronics and other fields. In this study agriculture waste material like bagasse dust has been combined with polyaniline to prepare new Nano composites. So formed Nano composite was characterised by using XRD, FTIR and SEM. SEM confirmed the Nanocomposite formation with size in the range of 100-130 nm. Such nanocomposites were used in the removal of dyes and heavy metals from industrial effluent. About 80-99% heavy metals could be removed through adsorption successfully

    Pharmacovigilance refers to the process of identifying, detecting, and responding to drug safety issue and has witnessed dynamic advancements in pharmaceutical industries throughout the world. The main objective of pharmacovigilance is to extend the safety monitoring and to detect any ADRs that previously got unrecognized in evolution during clinical trial. ADRs monitoring is required for each medicine throughout its lifecycle which includes early stage of drug design, clinical trials, and post marketing surveillance. The emerging trend in pharmacovigilance is to link the pre marketing data with the data collected during post marketing phase that include safety information. India is a vast country with population of over 1.32 Billion with different social economics status, different patterns of disease prevalence it becomes more important to have a standardized and robust pharmacovigilance.     HPTLC method for isolation, identification and quantification of quercetin from in vivo and in vitro samples of Naringi crenulata

    Naringi crenulata (Roxb.) Nicolson, is a rare medicinal plant belonging to the family Rutaceae. It is a spinous tree and has great medicinal value. During the present study a rapid, simple, accurate and specific HPTLC method for quantitative estimation of quercetin present in the dried leaf powder and callus of N. crenulata has been developed .The method used in this work resulted in good peak shape and enabled good resolution of quercetin from N. crenulata samples. Quercetin was identified in in vivo (leaf) and in vitro (six weeks old callus) tissues. Presence of isolated quercetin was further confirmed by superimposable IR spectra of isolated and authentic samples of quercetin and NMR spectra of isolated quercetin. Variation in quercetin content in in vivo and in vitro samples in N. crenulata was observed. In vivo leaf had maximum amount of quercetin (0.13%) while minimum amount was found in in vitro callus (0.032%). High content of quercetin in leaf shows its potential of synthesizing quercetin. This study is also of practical importance because flavonoid quercetin is the most active of all flavonoids. Many medicinal plants owe their activity to their high quercetin content. Several studies revealed quercetin’s significant anti-inflammatory activity due to direct inhibition of initial processes of inflammation. It also has potent antitumor and antioxidant properties including the inhibition of cancer cell proliferation and migration. This study is of practical importance because compound quercetin was firstly reported to be isolated from callus of N. crenulat

    Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of 1,3,4-Oxadiazolyl benzenesulphonyl benzimidazole derivatives

    Oxadiazoles are a class of heterocyclic aromatic chemical compound of azole family. Oxadiazole is five membered heterocycle having two carbons, two nitrogen, one oxygen and two double bonds. Oxadiazole exists in four isomeric forms depending upon the position of nitrogen atom in the ring. Benzimidazole is a heterocyclic aromatic compound. This bicyclic compound consists of fusion of benzene and imidazole. Benzimidazole may also be considered as cyclic analogues of imidines due to tautomerism effect. In the present study involves synthesis of1,3,4-oxadiazolyl benzenesulphonylbenzimidazole derivatives. All the synthesized compounds were screened against HepG-2 cell line to determine the growth inhibitory effect of compounds.All the synthesized compounds possessed good to moderate anti-cancer activity as compare to standard drug Adriamycin. Two of the synthesized compounds i.e. 8a and 8f were found to possess maximum anti-cancer activity.The structures of the synthesized compounds were established by IR and 1HNMR

    Comparative evaluation of antioxidant power of hydroacoholic extract of Terminalia bellerica and Emblica officinalis plant

    The present study was aimed to evaluate antioxidant activity in hydroalcoholic extract of fruits of Terminalia chebula and Emblica officinalis. Antioxidant activity of the extracts was determined using diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH), NO and Total antioxidant assays. Extracts of both medicinal plant exhibited antioxidant potential but E. officinalis proved more active. The presence of antioxidant activity in the extracts showed that these plants have the potential to be an alternate source of natural antioxidants. In vivo study is needed for successful commercialization and to benefit the food and pharmaceutical industries

    Phytochemical and antibacterial analysis of two morpho-types of Solanum melongena var. insanum (L.) Prain. an ayrvedic herb

    The Solanaceae, one of the largest family in angiosperms have high commercial value. The genus Solanum in Solanaceae is a complex one. Many species in Solanum does not contain a well-defined species boundaries. Many of them with taxonomical controversies. The present study was about such a Solanum species – Solanum melongena var. insanum. There were two morpho-types which are botanically known as S. melongena var. insanum. In Ayurveda both of them were treated as separate plants – as „Cheruvazhuthina‟ and „Punyahachunda‟. „Cheruvazhuthina‟ was extensively used in Ayurveda but „Punyahachunda‟ was not. Roots of „Punyahachunda‟ was used instead in the unavailability of roots of „Cheruvazhuthina‟. So this study was aimed to analyse the pharmacognostic properties of both morpho-types. The therapeutic value was assayed by antibacterial activity of roots of both plants. For convenience the two plants viz., „Cheruvazhuthina‟ and „Punyahachunda‟ were denoted as morpho-type 1 and morpho-type 2 respectively. Phytochemical profiling revealed significant differences in certain components. Hence the samples were subjected for FT-IR analyses and the spectra showed high pattern of similarity as well as differences in both the morpho-types investigated. Phytochemical profile was prepared for both the morpho-types which were further fractionated by chromatography. The fractionated components were subjected for bioassay against the growth inhibition of E. coli. The bioassay results revealed that the therapeutic potency of morpho-type 1 was more significant and hence I recommend the use of morphote type 1. However a detailed phytochemical as well as molecular profiling is warranted to confirm the recently obtained results

    Drought is the single largest abiotic stress factor leading to reduced crop yields. Approximately one-third of the Earth’s land area is arid or semi-arid. The situation is aggravated by the shortage of water resources because of widespread water pollution and unpredictable climatic change. Water availability is particularly critical for agricultural crops to maintain high yields in variable growing seasons. Thus, agricultural drought, namely water deficiency, adversely affects plant and crop production by reducing leaf size, stem extension and root proliferation, disturbing plant water and nutrient relations, and inhibiting water-use efficiency. In recent years, many countries and international organizations have launched research projects on exploring the drought-tolerance and water-saving mechanisms of plants to identify key genes or tools for improving plant drought resistance

    Effects of green tea and chamomile tea on plaque pH, salivary pH, Streptococcus mutans count

    Aim: Green tea is healthy beverage and is a part of our day to day life. Similarly, chamomile tea is known for its aspirin like properties. Beneficial effects of these tea includes protection against dental caries, periodontal disease and tooth loss and found that can a decrease in streptococcus mutans count as well as increase in pH. Hence the present study was to compare the pH of saliva and plaque, before and after the intake of green tea and to evaluate the role of green tea and chamomile tea on growth of s.mutans in culture using saliva. Material and Methods: Salivary samples were collected from 30 healthy individuals aged 20-30 years with certain criteria. The pH of saliva was determined by collecting samples before, immediately after and 15 min, 30 min after drinking tea using pH meter. Similarly the microbial colonies were also counted. The Data obtained were analyzed using Wilcoxon’s, Friedman's and Mann Whitney test. Results: There was statistically no significant difference between salivary streptococcus mutans count before and after (p 0.001) intake of green tea and chamomile tea. Conclusion: The result of the present study has proved that consumption of green tea and chamomile tea inhibit salivary Streptococcus mutans count and cause reduction of pH in saliva. So, it is advisable to encourage the regular consumption of this widely available, tasty and inexpensive beverage as an interesting alternative to other drinks
