الشيخ أبو الحسن علي الحسني النَّدْوِ ي ومساهمته في مجال الحديث النبوي: دراسةٌ استعراضيةٌ مُوجَزة: Sheikh Abul Hassan Ali Hassani Nadwi and His Contributions to The Sciences of Prophetic Hadith: A Concise Expository Study

    No full text
Sheikh Abul Hassan Ali Hasani Nadwi (d. 1999) was a world renowned Islamic scholar, outstanding preacher, a stalwart in Islamic thought, and known for his vivid writing. He combined between knowledge and character-speaking, besides having enlightened guiding thought and balanced preaching to the godly path. Muslims around the world benefited from his writings and works on preaching, Islamic thoughts and literature. He has contributed to the science of the Prophet’s Hadith through teaching and scientific writing of books on Hadith, its sciences and narrators. He was known for the strength of his isnad (the line of narrators of Hadith from the source), and many a Muslim scholar looked upon the ijaza (certification to transmit a particular source of Hadith) from him. However, this critical aspect of his outstanding scientific personality did not receive its due share of research. This oversight constitutes the driving motivation for this paper by following the scientific methodology of the study using a descriptive and inductive method. The paper comprises of four topics. First is a brief biography of Sheikh Nadawi and his scholarly attainments. Second is his dedication to the study and teaching of the Prophet’s Hadith. Third relates to his ijazā in Hadith. And, finally, the fourth part is an exposition on his written contribution in Hadith and its sciences. The paper concludes with a summary of some of the important findings: Sheikh Nadwi was a famous scholar among Muslims in this century, he received ijaza from great scholars of Hadith in his times, great scholars sought ijaza from him, and he served the cause of the science of Hadith through teaching, authorship and penning forwards for Hadith resources.

Bentuk-bentuk gerakan Kristianisasi dalam masyarakat Orang Asli di Perak: Forms of Christianization to the Orang Asli in Perak

    No full text
Findings from the previous research show that religious appreciation among the Orang Asli is still low. Internal and external factors contributed to this situation. The former was due to the Orang Asli’s level of motivation in learning Islam, while the latter was associated with the missionary movement of a certain religion, such as Christianity. Therefore, this article seeks to identify the influence of Christianity on the Orang Asli in Perak by focusing on the forms of the Christianization movement. For data collection, this research utilises semi-structured in-depth interviews involving six research participants comprised of a religious officer at the Dakwah Division of Jabatan Agama Islam Perak, Penggerak Masyarakat Orang Asli (PMOA), Mubaligh Islam (Muslim preachers), and the Orang Asli, who apostatized. The study reveals that the Christianization movement occurs through unaggressive preaching and entertainment, humanitarian aid, conveying love messages, and leadership caderization programmes. Thus, this study provides the implications that there should be a concerted effort to improve the missionary method among the Muslim preachers so that the Orang Asli can be taught how to practise Islam’s actual teachings

    No full text
Various studies have been done in Malaysia on exegesis and its development. But less study was conducted on thematic exegesis. The study aimed to present the development of thematic exegesis in Malaysia from the 1940s until the early 20th century. The method used to study thematic exegesis in Malaysia was qualitative, using content analysis as a research design. The literature reviews were conducted to collect data on thematic exegesis. The findings showed that the pattern of Quranic tafsir in Malaysia began with translating the original works of exegetes. Then the interpretation was made comprehensively, and the predominant pattern of interpretation was tafsir al-tahlili and mawdu’i. The writing of thematic exegesis showed the great development of the 20th century. Topic-based writing became the preferred choice for the author of al-mawdu’i in Malaysia, besides the lafaz (metonym) and surah (chapter). Among the topics studied were the story of the Prophet, faith, economy, family, and ibadah (the act of worship). Therefore, this study showed significant developments in thematic exegesis in Malaysia, which further illustrated society’s need for this kind of exegesis. This study provided new input to the researchers in Malaysia on exegesis in general and thematic exegesis in particular

Terjemahan ayat Mutashabihat: analisis fungsi prosedur eksplisitasi: The translation of Mutashabihat verses (Anthropomorphism): an analysis on the procedure of explicitation

    No full text
A mutashabihat verse (anthropomorphism) is a verse that contains many interpretations as it has various dimensions of meaning. Explicitation is one of the translation procedures introduced by Vinay and Darbelnet as an effort to make the target language readers understand clearly the implicit meaning contained in the source text. This study aims to examine the forms of explicitation used in the translation of the mutashabihat verses in the Quran and relate them to translators’ ideologies. This study adopted a qualitative approach that led to the analysis of text content of the Quran, which is elaborated descriptively by selecting three (3) words found in the text of the Quran that is related to Allah, as the sample of the study which are )يد( ,)استوى( and (أعين ). The corpus texts used are the Malay Quran translation by Abdullah Basmeih, Mahmud Yunus, and Zaini Dahlan. The findings showed that the translation of the mutashabihat verses used various forms of explicitation to enhance a clearer understanding of the target readers to the meaning of the Qur'an, such as lexical specification, the addition of explanatory remarks, additional information in brackets and footnotes. In addition, studies found that Mahmud Yunus and Zaini Dahlan retained the meaning of translated mutashabihat verses literally without giving an esoteric interpretation of the Quran and sometimes inclined towards the ideology of al-Ta’wil. On the other hand, Abdullah Basmeih was more prone to the ideologies of al-Ta’wil and al-Ithbat bi Dawabit in translating the verses

By adopting the qualitative method, this study found several verses in the Quran that discuss clairvoyance either directly or indirectly. Mostly explain that the real clairvoyance reflects on Muslims who believe in Allah with complete faith. In fact, the believer’s clairvoyance consists of warnings from Allah to His servants

Eufemisme dalam wacana terjemahan makna al-Quran ke bahasa Melayu: Analisis pragmatik: Euphemism in Malay translation of Quranic discourse: A pragmatic analysis

A euphemism is a form of language used in place of words that are considered harsh or taboo and inappropriate for direct speech. Another term for euphemism is language politeness. This paper examines the elements of euphemisms found in the Quran's text translation into Malay. This study adopts the framework of the theory of politeness principles aspired to by Leech. This study adopts a qualitative method and analysis of text, which are elaborated descriptively by selecting seven (7) words found in the text of the Quran as the sample of the study, which are (مات), (الغائط), (المحيض), (تحمل), (تضع ), (عاقر), and (ثيبات). The Corpus texts used are Tafsir Pimpinan Ar-Rahman by Abdullah Basmeih (TPR) and Terjemahan al-Quran al-Karim Rasm Uthmani by al-Hidayah House of Quran (TQKRU). The authors found that although both the translated texts corresponded to the meaning of semantics, sometimes they did not comply with the politeness principle. As a result, it leads to the existence of a dysphemism element in the translated text. The use of blunt words such as (mati) that refers to the Prophet, (haid), (mandul), and (janda) in the translation text was found to have no parallel with Leech’s Politeness Principles. Thus, this study suggested a revision be made to the text of the Quranic translation into Malay so that the selection of words is appropriate to the politeness principle

Isu pelaksanaan komunikasi bukan lisan dalam pengajaran bahasa Arab melalui atas talian: The issue of nonverbal communication practice in Arabic language teaching via online platform

    No full text
Nonverbal communication skills (NVC) are the cornerstone of effective teaching and facilitation processes among teachers. Due to the development of information technology and its influence on education practices, the implementation of this communication via the online platform should be mastered by teachers as well. The discussion uses a meta-analysis approach by investigating previous studies to identify issues of NVC practise in online Arabic language teaching. The results showed some issues with NVC practise in Arabic Language teaching and facilitating processes via online platforms. The issue of NVC practise among teachers during the teaching process in traditional or online classrooms still exists despite their knowledge of the subject matter itself. Among them are the weaknesses in verbal communication practises as well as external factors such as workload and technology support. The implications of this study suggest that teachers who teach traditionally need to first improve their weaknesses in their NVC skills, as it will be harder in the online teaching process. Teachers cannot avoid following the current trend of teaching and learning as the need for education is constantly changing when current technologies take place. Thus, infrastructure and technology need to be developed in tandem with excellent communication skills
