The article analyzes the role a comprehensive school has in the continuum of lifelong learning. Based on the theoretical insights of foreign authors (such as N. Longworth, J. Chapman, D. Aspin, J. Bryce, W. K. Davies and others), the functions a school willing to contribute to the fulfilment of the idea of lifelong learning in the educational environment could take on and/or carry out are discussed. Particular attention is paid to modelling the pedagogical system and its elements in a lifelong school, emphasizing that the essential and main activities of a comprehensive school are education. The article describes the features should a teacher and students of a lifelong school possess, the requirements set for the content, methods, forms and means of education. The conclusion is made that the comprehensive school lays the foundation of lifelong learning: a positive attitude towards learning is formed, the learning motivation is strengthened, the reasons for unwillingness to learn are eliminated, etc. It is also stated that the role of comprehensive school in fulfiling the idea of lifelong learning is extremely important and related to different areas of school activities (school management, relationship with the community, school culture, etc.). Bearing in mind the challenges of lifelong learning, the pedagogical system of a school should also be modelled with a methodological access of a student-oriented educational paradigm. The article introduces one of the possibilities to fulfill the ideas of lifelong learning on the institutional level of education reality – to form and to carry out a school-level education policy oriented towards the theoretical conceptualization and practical realization of the pedagogical system.Edukologijos doktorantasVilniaus universiteto Edukologijos katedraUniversiteto g. 9/1, LT-01513 VilniusTel. In Lithuania, where the economy is recovering from the crisis, many industrial enterprises encounter sharper increased shortages of qualified workers. However, in most cases this shortage in the country’s labor market is not around some one particular profession that raises selectively the requirements for human qualifications in knowledge, health, or psychic particularities, but for a multitude of popular vocations, such as for long-distance drivers, welders, cooks, etc.The national labor market frequently encounters paradoxical situations; during times of high unemployment and expanded educational levels employers ask the state for permission to import third country specialists because of deficits in many vocations. For some professions such shortages have already existed for several years with no indications of future improvement. Therefore, in order to balance the specialists’ requirements for the state and the labor market, many tasks arise for professional orientation. However, the situation in the labor market shows that the presently active national program for professional orientation limited within the framework of the educational system is not able to fully secure the country’s requirements for specialists. This prompts the search for the ways and means of improving the situation. The research has revealed that industrial subjects which should be the most interested part in satisfying the demand of specialists in the labour market do not participate in professional orientation at all or participate to a little extent. Iindustrial subjects have no programs of professional orientation and do not finance them. Furthemore, the research showed that the existing distinction between supply and demand in professions is formed not by the human factor of Lithuanian people or their intellectual or physiological ability to learn professions needed in the labour market. It appears because of axiological differences between personel choice and of fering a profession, and employers’ needs and expectations. To change the attitude of industrial subjects towards professional orientation, it is inmportant for enterprises and organizations to understand the advantage the effective professional orientation brings to them. Furthemore, in the process of preparing the management of human resources, it would be reasonable to supplement the programs with the course of professional orientation. Having specialists of professional orientation in enterprises and organizations would help to raise professional orientation in Lithuania to a higher level.Vilniaus universiteto Tarptautinio verslo mokyklos profesorius daktarasSaulėtekio alėja 22, LT-10225, VilniusEl. paštas: [email protected] technologijos universiteto tarybos narys, Lietuvos pramonininkų konfederacijos viceprezidentasA. Tačiau dažniausiai šalies darbo rinkoje pristingama ne kažkokių ypatingų, vienetinių profesijų, keliančių išskirtinius reikalavimus žmogaus gebėjimams, žinioms, sveikatai, psichikos savybėms, bet jaučiamas trūkumas ir populiarių profesijų (tolimųjų pervežimų vairuotojų, suvirintojų, virėjų ir kt.). Dažnai šalies darbo rinkoje susiklosto net paradoksali situacija, kai valstybėje esant dideliam nedarbui ir išplėtotai švietimo sistemai, darbdaviai prašo leisti įsivežti iš trečiųjų šalių specialistų, nes nacionalinėje darbo rinkoje daugelio profesijų atstovų trūksta. Kai kurių specialistų trūkumas šalyje jaučiamas jau daug metų ir iki šiol nematyti požymių, kad padėtis keistųsi teigiama linkme. Siekiant darbo rinkoje subalansuoti darbo vietų pasiūlą ir paklausą bei racionaliai naudoti žmogiškąjį kapitalą, straipsnyje tiriamos priežastys, dėl kurių šalies darbo rinkoje nuolat stinga tam tikrų sričių specialistų, bei pateikiama siūlymų padėčiai taisyti

UGDOMASIS NARATYVAS KAIP PEDAGOGINĖ PARADIGMA: HOMERO EPAI

    No full text
This paper aims to analyze Homer’s epics as educational narratives, to identify how integral yet many-faceted is the “Big Story”(“Iliad” and “Odyssey”) and the background formed for the pedagogical paradigm of the Antique Age. In particular, the philosophic, religious, ethical, poetic, physical, and aesthetic aspects of the epics are discussed, and views on learning, teaching and a learner are focused on. The aim of the paper is to compare the paradigm, emerging from Homer’s epics, to our modern day understanding of teaching, learning, and a learner, underpinned in particular by S. Sterling’s (2011) view on the mechanical and ecological paradigm in education. We bring into discussion also the notion of sustainability as a moral precept and education for sustainability, which is widely discussed nowadays, as many authors point out the crisis of values in our societies and educational systems.

This paper deals with professional expectations of Lithuanian physical education undergraduates from different fields: rehabilitation, sports, physical education. The study sample consisted of 419 undergraduates from five universities of Lithuania: Sports University, Šiauliai University, University of Educational Sciences, University of Health Sciences, Klaipėda University. This was a statistically representative sampling with a 95-percent certainty. The respondents were divided into groups according to the Ministry of Government Order No. 1749 list of the areas and fields in which studies are offered in higher education institutions. Lithuanian academical studies of physical education can only be implemented as separate study fields: B300 rehabilitation (the medicine and health group of study fields), C600 sport (life sciences group), and X100 pedagogy of physical education (education group of study fields). Theoretical analysis allowed us to construct a questionnaire of 13 statements for the analysis of professional expectations and their links with studies. The factor analysis allowed identifing two expectations’ macro-categories: professional expectations for the future and expectations for the choice of study. The field of study in this research was analysed as an independent variable. We calculated Cramer’s V as a measure of the strength of association among dependent and independent variables. The results have shown that the professional expectations of students from different study fields vary i.e. that expectations as to the choice of study are similar, but professional expectations for the future differ. Undergraduates of the rehabilitation study field foster higher professional expectations for the future than do students from the sports or pedagogy of physical education fields of study. The academic studies aimed at meeting the public needs allow students from the rehabilitation field of study easier to discern the direction of study and professional interface, making it easier for them to draw a contour of the professional self. However, for students of the sports, whose studies are directed towards the academic level and for students of physical education pedagogy, which has a high degree of interdisciplinarity, to do this in the final phase of studies is very difficult. The interdisciplinary profile of a study field is a crucial factor of the for lower professional expectations, and it offers a guideline for the further research.Remiantis darbais, nagrinėjančiais profesinius lūkesčius ir kūno kultūros studijų kontekstą, ieškota Lietuvos būsimųjų kūno kultūros specialistų – reabilitacijos, sporto ir kūno kultūros pedagogikos krypčių bakalaurų – profesinių lūkesčių raiškos. Šių darbų analizė leido parengti anketą, skirtą profesinių lūkesčių apraiškoms nustatyti. Iš Lietuvos universitetų, teikiančių reabilitacijos, sporto ar kūno kultūros pedagogikos studijas, atsitiktinės atrankos būdu apklausta 419 ketvirto kurso studentų, atstovaujančių populiacijai 95 proc. patikimumu. Remiantis faktorine analize išskirtos dvi profesinių lūkesčių makrokategorijos: profesinės ateities lūkesčiai ir studijų pasirinkimo lūkesčiai. Studijų kryptis šiame tyrime analizuota kaip nepriklausomas požymis. Priklausomų ir nepriklausomų požymių sąsajai vertinti taikytas Kramerio V koeficientas. Šia statistika grįsta analizė parodė, kad tirtų krypčių studentų studijų krypties pasirinkimo lūkesčiai yra panašūs, tačiau profesinės ateities lūkesčiai yra skirtingi. Reabilitacijos studijų krypties studentai puoselėja aukštesnius profesinės ateities lūkesčius nei sporto ar kūno kultūros pedagogikos studijų krypčių studentai. Baigiamajame studijų tarpsnyje tarpdisciplininis studijų krypties profilis turi lemiamą reikšmę žemesniems asmens profesinės ateities lūkesčiams ir tampa tolesnio tyrimo gaire

The aim of the study was to analyse the characteristics of employees who become mentors, and to discover how these characteristics are related to new employee socialization. 180 newly recruited employees (56 had mentors and 124 had no mentors), having their trial period in an organization and 56 mentors took part in the study. In order to analyse the aspects of socialization, new employees had to fill the questionnaires evaluating: 1) the amount of different information (Morrison, 1995); 2) job-related state anxiety (Spielberger et al., 1983); 3) the feeling of insider (old-timer); 4) perceived professional competency; 5) attitudes towards the job and towards the organization. Mentors had to fill in questionnaires which measure: 1) professional, social, and andragogical competencies; 2) organizational commitment (O’Reilly, Chatman, 1986); 3) job satisfaction; 4) work motivation; 5) motives of mentoring and experience. The results show that workers who become mentors of new employees are motivated and satisfied with their job, committed to their organization. They demonstrate a good level of professional and social and the average level of andragogical competencies. The usual motives of becoming mentors are seeking of challenges, wish to learn, altruism, the earlier experience of mentorship (being a mentor or a mentee), and financial benefits. Yet there were some mentors who were assigned to new employees without their compliance. The most important qualities of mentors, helping a new employee to socialize, are their professional and social competencies and mentor’s identification with the organization. Moreover, while comparing socialization results of those employees who had no mentors, who had very competent mentors, and who had mentors with lower competencies, it was assumed that sometimes it is better to have no mentor than to have an incompetent one. These results should be taken into consideration by personnel specialists and executives who assign mentors for new employees, because they prove the importance of mentor selection.

SOCIALINIS TEISINGUMAS LIETUVOS MOKYKLOSE: GRINDŽIAMOSIOS TEORIJOS PAGRINDU

    Get PDF
The concept of “social justice” is very popular and widely used not only in schools, but also in everyday life and language. It is one of the most ambiguous, controversial and vague concepts used in social sciences. This is evidenced by a huge variety of definitions of the concept in dictionaries, scientific literature, and expert comments. Some scholars equate social justice to equality, equal opportunities, fairness (Scherlen, Robinson, 2008), while others – to the possibility of working together with different people in a multicultural society, seeking harmonization (Morales, 2005; Lipman, Monkman, 2009), yet others – to the values which every person refers to when evaluating the fairness of a situation (Suhay, 2008), or even to the impropriety of the concept, its inability to define true justice (Bouillon, 2012). These are only a few examples of attempts to define the concept. The increasing number of scholars (Adams, Bell, Griffin, 1997; Ayers, Hunt, Quinn, 1998; Darling-Hammond, French, Garcia-Lopez, 2002; Marshall, Oliva, 2006; Irving, 2005, 2009; Gutstein, Peterson, 2005; Morales, 2005; Young, Mountford, 2006; Bell, 2007; Gitlin, 2009; Jean-Marie, Normore, Brooks, 2009; Murray, 2011; Stewart, 2012) argue that the lack of exact definition of the concept makes it impossible to understand what the users of the concept mean by it, not to mention understanding how social justice manifests it self in schools. Therefore, the goal of the paper is to find out how social justice is perceived in Lithuanian schools and to discuss a specific theory, based on the experiences of schools. Therefore, based on the classical approach to the grounding theory, this article explores how school administrators, teachers, students, parents, and other school personnel perceive and experience social justice in Lithuanian schools. Based on the data of this study, authentic experiences of the study participants are discussed. The major social issues experienced in schools are disclosed and the “harrowing collision” theory is briefly explained, which allows moving away from the definition of social justice presented in the conventional literature. Finally, it is stated that the concept of social justice is too abstract and does not have a well-established definition which would be self-explanatory and recognized not only in schools, but also in other fields. Therefore, it is constantly interpreted and appended to match the expectations of the people in question. In such a situation, the participants of the study accept the fact that their perceived sense of justice is impossible and instead try to conform to a “superficial social justice” which manifests itself in the context of a lack of general social justice in schools. The diversity of the participants becomes an indicator for the “superficial justice” and an important developmental factor when some participants experience such justice more than others. The “harrowing collision” theory is put forth by the experience of such school community members. It has revealed the field of illusion in social justice (social justice in schools, which is based on the principals of tolerance and equality), the harrowing collision field (which is always a consequence of the search for an illusionary justice field), processes of maneuver and position-oriented openness were determined, which explain the concern of the absence of general social justice in schools. The maneuver subcategory is a consequence of superficial general social justice which unfolds in the context of attack and retreat. Position-oriented openness as a condition during lack of general social justice lies in the context of every participant’s held strengths, knowledge, and attitude. Therefore, position-oriented openness should help with the main concern-the lack of general social justice in schools. On the one hand, all participants suffer from the lack of general social justice; on the other, they are not socially just towards one another. All the more, all of these tendencies unfold in the context of overall interactions and changes as one category affects the others.Straipsnyje, remiantis klasikinės grindžiamosios teorijos metodu, nagrinėjama, kaip mokyklų administracijos atstovai, mokytojai, mokiniai, tėvai, kiti mokyklos darbuotojai suvokia ir patiria socialinį teisingumą Lietuvos mokyklose. Remiantis konkrečiais šio tyrimo duomenimis, aptariama autentiška tyrimo dalyvių patirtis, atskleidžiama pagrindinė socialinio teisingumo mokyklose problema (rūpestis) ir paaiškinama iškilusi savarankiška vidutinio lygmens slegiančio susidūrimo teorija

DORINIŲ VERTYBIŲ RAIŠKA 5–7 METŲ VAIKŲ ELGESYJE

This publication aims to present a theoretical and empirical model of the expression of moral values in 5–7-year-old children as the base for their empirical study; to describe elements of the expression of moral values in children of such age in terms of behaviour frequency and self-sufficiency; to compare the behaviour of the children by gender and the place of residence.Based on the data of factor analysis, the following values were included into the theoretical and empirical model of the expression of moral values in 5–7-year-old children: dutifulness (clearing-up of the playing area and protection of things belonging to this environment); carefulness (taking care about plants and / or animals); openness (sharing things, toys, etc.); sincerity (telling about himself / herself and giving as a gift self-handmade items, findings); helpfulness (attempts to protect others informing about a danger); sympathy (compassion when it is going wrong); attentiveness (noticing the mood of other persons and listening to what others say); simplicity (avoiding the ostentation of things or appearance) and honesty (attempts to avoid lying, to say truth).Based on the criterion of the behaviour expression frequency, the elements of avoiding fraud, of honesty, openness, dutifulness, sincerity and attentiveness were reported more often in the behaviour of 5–7-year-old children. Dutifulness, attentiveness, sincerity as well as carefulness and sympathy were noticed more frequently in the behaviour of girls as compared with boys. Children living in cities were more mindful and sincere, and children from rural areas were more dutiful, attentive, and honest. The behaviour of 5–7-year-old children was interrelated and based on the frequency and self-sufficiency criteria, except some insignificant differences. Although many of children in this age group strived to avoid a fraud, made attempts to tell the truth, be attentive on their own initiative without the intervening of others, not all attempts were successful. However, data of the self-sufficient behaviour demonstrated at the same time that children of this age tended readily to perform activities incarnating the values of sincerity, attentiveness, sympathy, and helpfulness. Also, elements of self-sufficient behaviour were more distinct in the behaviour of girls rather than of boys.Religijos studijų ir edukologijos magistrė,UAB „Vaikystės sodas“ auklėtojaLiubarto g. 17, LT-08118 VilniusEl. paštas: [email protected] iškeliama dorinių vertybių ugdymo problema ikimokykliniame amžiuje.
