Chewing Gum on Reducing Thirst in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis

Sleep Quality and Self-Harm Tendencies among Final-Year Students
Poor sleep quality cloud disrupt the sleep-wake rhythm, particularly affecting brain function and potentially leading to various health problems. The impact of inadequate sleep encompasses both physiological and psychological disturbances, including fatigue, physical weakness, reduced physical activity, and weakened immune function. This study aimed to raise awareness among students, particularly in academic settings, about the importance of maintaining high-quality sleep in support of their mental health. The research employed a descriptive quantitative design using a questionnaire-based survey, with a random sampling technique. The frequency distribution results showed that 21,5% of subjects exhibited healthy sleep patterns, while the remaining 78,5% were categorized as having suboptimal sleep patterns. Self-harm tendencies were divided into three categories: no self-harm (92,5%), mild self-harm (5,4%), and severe self-harm (2,2%). Correlation analysis using the Spearman rank test indicated a significant positive relationship between sleep quality and self-harm tendencies (r = 0,353; p-value = 0,001). Therefore, final-year students working on their theses are advised to manage their time more effectively and pay attention to both the duration and quality of their sleep as a preventive measure against sleep disturbances. An imbalanced sleep pattern can trigger negative emotional responses and reduce an individual’s ability to regulate emotions
Age and Parity with Baby Blues Syndrome in Postpartum Mothers at the Teling Community Health Center, Manado City
The first week for postpartum mothers is a period of adjustment to the role and responsibilities of mothers after giving birth. Mothers who are unable to adapt well during the postpartum period are susceptible to experiencing psychological disorders, one of which is baby blues syndrome. This study aimed to determine the relationship between age and parity with baby blues syndrome at the Teling Atas Community Health Center in Manado. The research method was observational analytic, with a cross-sectional approach. Samples were taken by accidental sampling of a sample of 60 postnatal mothers who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale/EPDS questionnaire and data analysis using Chi-square statistical tests. The results of the study showed that the majority of mothers were 20-35 years old, as many as 55 (91,7%), the highest parity was primipara, as many as 38 people (63,3%). There was a relationship between age (p-value<0,005 and parity (p-value<0,001) with baby blues syndrome at the Teling Atas Manado Health Center. It is recommended that health workers be more active in increasing counseling for pregnant women in preparation for becoming mothers so that they can adapt well after giving birth
Early Stunting Prevention: Community Empowerment Through Oral Health Promotion for Prospective Brides and Pregnant Women
Oral health is an essential component of overall health, particularly for pregnant women and prospective brides. Nevertheless, knowledge and awareness regarding oral health remain low, contributing to the high prevalence of dental caries, gingivitis, and periodontitis. These conditions have serious implications, especially during the First 1000 Days of Life (HPK), which are closely associated with the risk of stunting. This program aimed to enhance knowledge, awareness, and preventive behaviors related to oral health among pregnant women and prospective brides as part of early stunting prevention efforts. The intervention was conducted in July 2023 at the Toddopuli Primary Health Center, Makassar City, involving 20 prospective brides, 30 pregnant women, and 10 health cadres. Activities included cross-sectoral coordination, technical training for health cadres, household visits for data collection and intervention sticker placement, oral health education through face-to-face counseling and digital media, and dental treatment at the health center. Knowledge was assessed using pre-test and post-test instruments administered via Google Form. The findings revealed a significant improvement: the proportion of participants with good knowledge increased from 49,2% before the intervention to 98,2% afterward. In addition, the number of participants receiving dental care rose from 4 in 2022 to 39 in 2023. Overall, the program successfully enhanced awareness and preventive practices and contributed to stunting prevention by improving maternal and preconception oral health
Achieving a Healthy and Prosperous Quality of Life through a Low-Carbon Lifestyle
Migrant workers often face challenges in maintaining a healthy quality of life due to various factors, including unsupportive work environments, lack of access to healthcare facilities, and unhealthy lifestyles. In addition, the increase in carbon emissions related to human activities has become a global issue that requires serious attention. Combining efforts to improve quality of life with steps to reduce carbon emissions can help achieve the SDGs, namely good health and well-being, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, and climate action. This Community Service Program (PkM) aims to: (1) improve healthy living quality through education and implementation of healthy lifestyles, (2) raise awareness about the importance of maintaining health and the environment simultaneously, and (3) reduce the carbon footprint by promoting low-carbon lifestyles. The method used is an integrated approach that involves four stages: (1) education and training through seminars and workshops, (2) facilitating access to healthcare facilities, (3) campaigns and mentoring to encourage lifestyle changes, and (4) evaluation and monitoring to measure the program's impact. The results of this program show that migrant workers have high awareness in adopting healthy and low-carbon lifestyles, although improvements are still needed in some areas such as recycling and the selection of low-carbon products. In conclusion, this program can make a real contribution to improving the quality of life of migrant workers while reducing negative environmental impacts. Recommendations for future programs include strengthening recycling campaigns and increasing awareness of low-carbon product consumption
The "Gesit" E-Book on Improving Teenagers' Knowledge and Attitudes toward Obesity Management
Indonesia faces a triple burden of nutritional problems, including the rising prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents. Obesity cases among senior high school students in Tasikmalaya Regency were notably high in 2023, indicating the need to analyze factors contributing to obesity in the region. This study aimed to analyze the effect of an e-booklet on obesity management on the knowledge and attitudes of obese adolescents at SMK Singaparna and SMK Daaruddakwah. A quantitative pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design was used, and hypothesis testing was conducted using the Wilcoxon test and paired t-test. The sample consisted of 42 obese adolescents selected through total sampling. The results showed an increase in knowledge (6,21 points) and attitudes (1,91 points) regarding obesity management, indicating a significant effect of the e-booklet on improving knowledge (p-value< 0,001) and attitudes (p-value = 0,011). It is recommended that the developed e-booklet be utilized as a health promotion medium for obesity management
Determinants of Low Birth Weight (LBW) in Majene Regency
Low birth weight (LBW) is an important health problem, particularly in developing countries with low socioeconomic conditions. This study aimed to analyze maternal factors associated with the incidence of LBW in Majene Regency in 2023. The study involved 90 subjects selected through total sampling, using a case–control design and chi-square analysis. The results showed that maternal anemia was significantly associated with LBW (p-value<0,05), whereas maternal age, height, MUAC, exposure to cigarette smoke, and education were not associated (p-value>0,05). These findings emphasize the importance of educating pregnant women to regularly consume iron (Fe) tablets correctly, such as taking them before bedtime and avoiding consumption together with tea or coffee
Social Support and Quality of Life in Elderly People Who Have Been Left Behind by Their Life Partners in Bitung
Older adults are frequently misunderstood and perceived negatively by the public, with the assumption that they are a burden to their families and the wider community. This study aimed to examine the relationship between social support and quality of life among older adults who have lost their spouses in Kadoodan Village, Bitung City. A quantitative research method was applied using an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of seventy-three older adults who met the inclusion criteria were selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used in this study included the Interpersonal Support Evaluation List (ISEL) to assess social support and the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire to measure quality of life. The findings showed that older adults with good social support and good quality of life constituted the largest proportion, namely forty-six subjects (36%). Meanwhile, only two subjects (2,7%) demonstrated good social support but poor quality of life. The Chi-square test yielded a p-value of <0,001, indicating a statistically significant association between social support and quality of life. The study concluded that social support plays an important role in improving the quality of life of older adults who have lost their spouses. It is recommended that families, communities, and healthcare providers become more actively engaged in providing sustained attention, interaction, and support for older adults
Adolescent Education for Weight Monitoring, Nutritional Status and Physical Activity
Malnutrition and overnutrition are nutritional problems that occur among adolescents in Indonesia. Various factors contribute to these nutritional problems, including limited access to information and low levels of knowledge among adolescents. Lack of knowledge and its implementation in preventing nutritional problems is also experienced in Kampar. Adolescents need to be socialized with the 4 pillars of the Balanced Nutrition Guidelines (PGS) which can be used as guidelines for eating, physical activity, clean living, and maintaining ideal body weight. This community service aimed to form a positive and active attitude to monitor body weight and nutritional status regularly and do physical activity regularly. The activities were carried out in the form of counseling in lectures and discussions using booklet media and adolescent nutritional status assessment tool. Anthropometric measurements were conducted on adolescent boys and girls with a total of 29 people. The counseling resulted in an increase in low physical activity from 48,3% to 58,6%, and monitoring of weight and height from 13,8% to 41,4%. Providing counseling using booklet media and nutritional status discs was considered appropriate to equip adolescents as an effort to increase physical activity and weight monitoring. The participation and initiative of the school (teachers and students) and parents play an important role in achieving the expected results of this counseling
