The students’ perception in using Google Translate as a media in translation class
This Research describes students’ perception of using Google Translate as a media in Translation class. Perception in this research was what students think about Google Translate and how it affects them in the translating process. The research was focused on the advantages and disadvantages, solution and problem found in using Google Translate. The method used in this research was the descriptive method. The researcher analyzed the role of Google Translate for the translating process in class. The subject was the sixth-semester students and there were 64 students. In collecting the data needed, this research used questionnaires, translation task, and interviews as the instruments. It was 96% of students used Google Translate frequently. The results of this research showed that most students used Google Translate as a fast dictionary. The use of Google Translate frequently was for translating sentence by sentence and enriching students’ vocabulary. Almost all students realized that Google Translate could not be good media without rechecking. The students’ translation task score showed that the translation quality assisted by Google Translate was not good but also not bad. Additionally, the accuracy of Google Translate made students kept learning and practicing grammar and also improving their translation skills
Web-based picture dictionary of Dayak Ngaju language–English
This study aims to develop a learning application of Dayak Ngaju language - English that can be accessed by children of primary school age through web pages. The vocabularies used in the application were the basic vocabularies learned in elementary school as an introduction to the next step, which includes making simple sentences, both in local and foreign languages. The applied research model was used to adopt techniques in the Agile model using Extreme Programming which consists of planning, design, coding, and testing. For supporting the application development, the data were gathered through direct observation, interviews, and library research. The study was conducted at Sekolah Dasar Negeri Percobaan Palangka Raya, Jl. Damang Leman No. 37 Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan. The final product of the study was an application of web-based Dayak Ngaju- English Language Dictionary for elementary school-age categories. The application displays several nouns related to parts of the body, things in the classroom, as well as food and drinks
The effect of different types of correction on the students' ability in writing descriptive text
This research aimed to investigate the effect of peer correction and self-correction on the students' ability in writing descriptive text. This research applied a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental research design. 106 population samples of the three classes were taken from the students of the English Education Department at IAIN Palangka Raya. The technique of collecting the data used was the writing test. In analyzing the data, some procedures used were such as administering pre-test, conducting treatments, administering post-test, and analyzing the data. The results showed that there is a significant effect of peer correction and self-correction on the students' ability in writing descriptive text. It can be seen from the mean score between pre-test (55.13) and post-test (72.89) of the experimental group (Class A) using peer correction indicating that students’ scores increased after the treatment, and the mean score of pre-test (58.89) and post-test ( 73.34) of the experimental group (Class B) using self-correction indicating that students’ scores increased after the treatment. It is considered that peer correction and self-correction as the writing instruction technique can help them in writing especially descriptive text

The use of L1 in English as a foreign language classroom at SMA Taruna Jaya Sampit
One of the most favorite approaches in teaching and learning a foreign language is the use of L1 in the classroom. Debates have going for ages about the effectiveness of this approach. This approach could help the teacher to explain certain subjects to the students moreover if the students lack English comprehension. On the other hand, this approach could demotivate the students and only can be used at a certain level of comprehension of English. The purpose of this study is to find out: How frequent teachers and students use L1 in English Foreign Language Classroom, Perspective of the teacher on the use of L1 in EFL Classroom and Perspective of students on the use of L1 in EFL Classroom. The research type of this study was qualitative research. Data were taken by questionnaire, interview, and observation. The subject of this study is the first-class SMA Taruna Jaya Students and English teacher. The questionnaire was given to the teacher and students of the first class of SMA Taruna Jaya and the data of the interview were taken from the teacher and 5 students who chose randomly. The result showed that the teacher and students used L1 most of the time and the perspective of the teacher and students toward the use of L1 is mostly positive

The TOEFL learning difficulties faced by EFL students of English department
This study was aimed at finding out the factors that cause the difficulty in TOEFL learning faced by EFL students of English Department of IAIN Palangka Raya. The purposes of the study were (1) to know skills are most answered incorrectly in the TOEFL by English department students; (2) to describe how English department students prepare themselves for TOEFL; (3) to analyze the students’ reasons toward their difficulties in the TOEFL. It was used qualitative method. The data was taken from the document records and interview. This study addressed to English Department students who failed in several occasions of the TOEFL PBT. Purposive sample was taken into account, in which all 10 participants were female in their 9th and 11th semester study. The finding of this study shows some points as follows: (1) areas of most incorrect answers such as Structure and Written Expression; the problems of subject-verb agreement, tenses, nouns and the use of article, (2) the problems of preparation shortages and incapability of understanding several grammars area were common found, (3) the reasons behind students’ difficulties in the TOEFL were underestimate attitude toward the test and their poor English mastery
Students’ problems in developing speaking skill at the eleventh grade SMA Darul Hijrah Putra Martapura
The objective of this research is describe the students’ problems in developing speaking skill at eleventh grade SMA Darul Hijrah Putra Martapura school year 2017/2018. In this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative as the research design. The population of this research is students at SMA Darul Hijrah Putra Martapura and the samples of this research are 36 students from class XI SMA. The samples are selected based on the problem formulation. This research uses questionnaire and interview as the instrument. The finding shows that students problem: nothing to say (58.33%), mother-tongue use (80.55%), difficult to express ideas verbally (58.33%), limited vocabulary (72.22%), limited ability of grammar (72.22%), focused on grammar (61.11%
Using web (e-learning) as a platform to increase the student’s reading comprehension skill at Darwan Ali university Sampit
Reading is one of the abilities that must be mastered by foreign language learners. This is proven by finding the problems experienced by students in understanding the contents of the reading as it has been provided by the English lecturer beyond the students’ knowledge. This paper presents an innovative e-learning platform that was specifically designed to upgrade the student’s reading comprehension skill. This article is a descriptive qualitative as conducted at Darwan Ali University Sampit. The data collecting method were used an observation and literature review. The results showed that 1) IT at Darwan Ali University Sampit has a role as a supporting facility to upgrade reading skill of english learning process. 2) Web (E-learning) is an interesting and an attractive learning facility to the students, and as facility for the students by using E-learning: first, it can improve the student understanding in reading during the application of the development of reading material that refers to e-learning, second, they can get information and reading materials in the form of media such as text, picture, and video that attractive them as a participant
The need analysis of English material on Hotel Hospitality students at SMKN 1 Bojonegoro
Need analysis is an essential thing in ESP. It is really important for designing curriculum and material especially in English for specific purpose. This research aims to find out the students’ needs at Hotel Hospitality at SMKN 1 Bojonegoro. This research is classified as mixed method research design. It used two kinds of instruments namely questioners and interview guidelines. The questioner aims to gain and collect information from students especially their needs related to English teaching and learning. While, interview guideline is used to gather information from English teacher and the expert. The result shows that there are some skills and language components that students at hotel hospitality need related to English materials. All skills are generally important for them. 79% students said that all skills are very important. Listening dominantly students said that listening (50%) and speaking (83%) are very important for them. Grammar (83%) and vocabulary (83%) are really important for them While at school, the ESP approach is not applied yet, as a result, it influences on choosing materials. It can be concluded that in designing materials, the teachers and curriculum maker should do need analysis and analyze what actually students need and work need. In choosing materials, they have to consider what students skills that students need at hotel hospitality
