    An Analysis of English Four Skills in “When English Rings a Bell†English Textbook Based on Alan Cunningsworth Criteria

    This research aimed to describe types and the content of skills found in "When English Rings a Bell" English textbook based on Alan Cunningsworth criteria. In carrying out this research, the researcher used a qualitative approach with a content analysis method. Data collected by carrying out an observation checklist, interview, and documentation. The result showed that: (1) English four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) found in the English textbook "When English Rings a Bell" for the seventh grade of Junior High Schools published by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and (2) English skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing show the results of a checklist based on Alan Cunningsworth found among them on page 4 as listening skills, page 101 as speaking skills, page 105 as reading skills, and page 137 as of writing skills

    Developing English Printed Material on Theme of Environment for Early Young Learners

    This study presents the development of thematic English material for early young learners at PAUD Terpadu Joy Kids Makassar, particularly under the theme “Environment†and the sub of theme “Home Yardâ€. This Research and Development was conducted based on the preliminary study which showed that English was not a compulsory subject, but it was only an interlude. Moreover, the learning material used in that school provided only one page of English vocabulary. Thus, supported by the theory of how young children learn language, the researcher made an effort to develop English material by adjusting the concept of curriculum 2013 for childhood education in order to support the basic knowledge of English for students at PAUD Terpadu Joy Kids Makassar. This study applied the ADDIE model in conducting the process of developing the material. Based on the result of need analysis and documents analysis, the English material was emphasized in introducing vocabulary. Furthermore, the product was in form of printed material. Specifically, the product was recommended to be used by both teachers and students to conduct English learning activity. In addition, for the next researcher, it can be also as the reference to innovate more in developing English material

    Islamic Song to Motivate EFL Students in Speaking Performance

    The aim of this research was to find out the the effectiveness of English song toward students’ speaking ability and motivation at MA Darul Ulum Palangka Raya. This research used quantitative method that belongs to experimental design. For instruments, this study used speaking test and questionnaire. The population of the study were 64 students of tenth grade at MA Darul Ulum Palangka Raya. To analyse the data, researcher used SPSS 21 program. The result of this research showed, the students’ pre-test mean score in experiment class was 67,97 and the post-test mean score was 72,87. In contrary, the students’ pre-test mean score in control class was 71,27 and the post-test mean score was 69,43. In the end, English song is effective way to improve students’ speaking ability and motivation. Consequently, English song made the new words stay longer in their mind and help them to adapt to native speaker pronunciation. English song helped them to increase their motivation in speaking

    Need Analysis of the English Pocket Book for the Fourth Grade Students of SD Negeri 4 Tewah

    Based on the Curriculum for the fourth grade of SD Negeri 4 Tewah, students are given English as their subject learnt at school. Need analysis was done to know the students’ need of English teaching and learning material. The instruments used to obtain the data were interview with the teacher, documents, and questionnaire sent to the students. The finding shows that the fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 4 Tewah were difficult in learning simple English vocabulary because the available English teaching material was lack of vocabulary. The finding also states that a pocket book was preferred by the teacher and the students as the form of the English material. Consequently, an English pocket book for the fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 4 Tewah to be developed later need to be based on the students’ needs of vocabulary

    Students’ Perception of the Use of Google Classroom in Teaching Intensive English Class for the First Year College Students During Pandemic COVID-19

    The spread of COVID-19 pandemic has made the biggest disturbance of education systems in history. Many schools and universities around the world are closing down. In Indonesia, the government decides a distance learning system using online learning. Many platforms of digital sources have been implemented by many schools and universities, one of them is using Google Classroom. This research aimed to know the students’ perception of using Google Classroom in teaching Intensive English Class during this pandemic by applying descriptive qualitative method. The subject of the research was one of the classes on Intensive English Class program at University of Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin named IEC "Paris" Class, they were all the first year students academic year 2019/2020 consisted of 22 students. Questionnaire was used to collect the data. The findings showed that the students’ perception of using Google Classroom in teaching Intensive English Class was in good level. It can be seen from the students’ positive response in responding the questionnaire statements about using Google Classroom. Google Classroom might be used as a media in teaching English for the students to be more interested and active, especially during this New Normal.Â

    Teacher Strategies in Teaching English Vocabulary to Young Learner at SDN Percobaan Palangka Raya

    The purpose of this study was to describe the teaching vocabulary conducted by a teacher of SDN Percobaan Palangkaraya in academic year 2019/2020. There three problems were going to be discussed  in this study: (1) What are the strategies used by the teacher in teaching English vocabulary to young learners at SDN Percobaan Palangka Raya, (2) How is the implementation of teacher strategies in teaching English Vocabulary to young learners at SDN Percobaan Palangka Raya, (3) What are the problems to the implementation of teacher strategies in teaching English Vocabulary to young learners at SDN Percobaan Palangka Raya. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research to address these problems. In collecting data, the researcher used interview, observation in teaching process, and documentation as the supporting data. The subject of this study was an English teacher at the third Grade of SDN Percobaan Palangka Raya. Based on the finding, the researcher found that the strategies and the implementation used by the teacher were explanation, translation, presentation, and memorization. The problem faced by the teacher derived into two aspects, there were internal came from the teacher and external came from young learners, environment, and the facility of the school

    An Interview on the Utilization of E-instructional Materials for Teaching Extensive Reading Course During Pandemic Covid 19

    Extensive reading is a course taught at a higher education level. In this course, the learners read the texts for pleasure and for improving their general reading skills. In this case, the learners really need appropriate materials and a comfortable environment to achieve the goal of reading extensively. Unfortunately, in this crucial situation (pandemic covid 19) the teaching and learning should be conducted in online mode. Therefore, it is very important to select an effective instructional material for teaching the course. This study aims to find out a detailed description of the utilization of E-instructional Materials for Teaching Extensive Reading Course. This study applied the qualitative method and online interview, observation, and documentation were used as the research instrument. The data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman's theory (2004). The result shows that in this crucial situation of pandemic Covid 19 the E-instructional material supports the online teaching and learning process. Here, the E-instructional materials are in the forms of texts or fun stories in PDF format. Moreover, the lecturer also explains the steps in teaching extensive reading course by using E-instructional materials

    An Analysis of the Writing Material in the English Textbook “Joyful English†for the Fourth Grade Students of Elementary School

    Textbooks are important references used by teachers and students in the teaching and learning process. Considering such a situation it is important to conduct a study to describe the shortcomings of the textbook and increase its strength. This study aimed to analyze the presentation of the written material in the textbook “Joyful English†for the fourth grade of elementary school. This research was a descriptive qualitative research using content analysis based on the theory of Hutchinson and Totres (1994 : 315).The data were collected using questionnaires for the teacher of Elementary School and document readings focusing on the analysis of the writing materials. The results showed that in terms of writing materials, all writing assignments were in the form of guided writing, where students were asked to write responses and short texts. The result also showed that writing assignments in textbooks were proportionally covered as required in Kompetensi Dasar (Basic Competence) as required in the Lesson Plan

    Implementation of Character Education in Teaching and Learning English by the Students Practice Field Experience Activities Online during the Covid 19 Pandemic

    It is revealed that the EFL teachers have inserted character education in classroom with various activities and frequencies. Most of them inserted character education with both explicit and implicit modes. The Students practice field experience in teaching and learning English course in their teaching practice faced obstacles in the implementation of character education using 2013 curriculum that has not been maximized during the online course of covid 19 pandemic. The practiced teachers with full awareness as future educators try to carry out activities that prioritize character education as characteristic of the Indonesian nation in every activity as an EFL teachers during the online course. The design of this study was a descriptive qualitative study through two students practice field experience among them in teaching and learning English activities online that consisted of verbal and nonverbal activities using google meet application, google classroom, WhatsApp media. The techniques for collecting the data were observation and document study from the lesson plans and were analyzed using Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study show that the students practice field experience have been able to implement 18 character values in the English teaching and learning activities integratedly as a whole procedure in two times observation, which are in pre- teaching, whilst-teaching, and post-teaching. The character values implemented are Honesty, Responsibility, Discipline, Curiosity, Friendly / Communicative, Tolerance, Independent, Religiosity, Work Hard, Creative, Rewarding Achievement, Joy of Reading, Environmental Care, Social Care, Democratic, Love the Country, The Spirit of Nationality and Love of Peace.Â

    The Development of Character Education Based on Dayak Ngaju Language in Elementary School in Sampit

    The youth is one of the assets for the future. Yet character degradation in Sampit involves the youngsters. Hence, the need of instilling character education is essential to be done. Striving the local wisdom can be realized in teaching the character education. This study is one of the alternatives in infusing the character through the implementation of teaching model using Dayak Ngaju language. The data collecting method was done by observation and interview related to the research scopes in which the elementary school chosen students in Sampit became the purposive sampling. This study highlights a few steps: (1) identifying the local wisdom lesson of the proverb of the Dayak Ngaju Language; (2) creating model to develop the character education and digging on the value of the local wisdom of Dayak Ngaju language; (3) implementing model of character education through the value of the local wisdom of Dayak Ngaju language; (4) results evaluation. The results showed that “design thinking†frame and cover were the tools that used to instill the character education itself for the students. The characters obtained such as honest, brave, disciplined, polite, hardworking, and fond of reading
