The Development of Android Based Dictionary For Graphic Technique
Dictionary is one of the important media in learning English. Along with the rapid development of mobile technology at this time, the various applications for mobile is widely developed as a medium of learning, one of them is the application of Android-based dictionary. Dictionaries on mobile devices are more practical than conventional dictionaries, as users can receive information quickly anywhere without space and time constraints. Related to this, the research aims to create a dictionary application of English-Indonesian graphics techniques capable of running on android-based phones. This application is built to help and meet the needs of students majoring in graphic technique in searching for meaning and understand various English words related to science of graphics. The collection of words and phrases (word entries) related to the science of graphic technique is done through literature studies of books, internet and other relevant sources. In addition, the collection of words and phrases is also done by conducting in-depth interviews with lecturers or graphic technique experts. The programming languages used in making this language dictionary application use Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) and SQLite. The dictionary after being validated of 4.14 with good category) and tested received positive response from the students indicated with very positive questionnaire results
Code Switching Used by English Lecturers During Teaching as Found in Padang State University
This research focuses on the study of the types of code switching and the reasons for lecturers to use the code switching that is based on Wardaugh's theory and supported by Gumperz. The data was collected by using field method, with several steps, namely: following the lecturer, recording techniques, field recording, and interviews. From several data were examined, it was found three types of code switching. Conversations type is a type of code switching that often appear, followed by the type of situational and metaphorical. In addition, it was found seven reasons for the use of code switching in teaching and learning, namely the influence of students who first use the Indonesian language, ignorance of the students to the lecturers' explanation , the emphasis on the previous statement, search the attention of the students because they make noise in the classroom, liquefaction the tense atmosphere with a little joke, forgetfulness some of the terms in English, and no equivalent word in English when giving an example of a lesson
Language Error Analysis on Verified Twitter Timeline
Human is a part of language development. Human use language in every aspects of life, including in cyberspace. Cyberspace give a lot of ease in interaction and expressing yourself that sometimes people didn't realize breaking the rules of language use. Twitter is one of social media that provided in cyberspace. Verified twitter account is an account that is consider to have part or influence in the society. The owner of the account can be individual or institution. The objective of this research is to get information about language error in verified twitter account, explain the error and correct it. The research method that used is descriptive analysis. The researcher collect evidences as much as possible and then analyze them. The result of the research is that there are language errors in verified twitter posts, especially in the use of standardized Indonesian language

A Pragmatic Analysis of Speech Acts Used by English Lecturers in Languange Teaching at STKIP YDB Lubuk Alung
The research was intended to describe types of speech acts performed by English lecturers in learning process at STKIP YDB Lubuk Alung. This research was descriptive qualitative. The data of this research were the English utterances performed by English lecturers. The researcher obtained the data by means of note-taking technique. First, the researcher recorded the English teaching in the class using a video camera. Next, the researcher made transcripts of the dialogues. Then, the transcribed dialogues were recorded into the data sheet. Finally the data were classified according to Searle's classification of speech acts. In the data analysis the researcher applied interactive qualitative method and applied coding system. The research findings show that there were four types of speech acts performed by the English lecturers, namely representatives, directives, expressive and commissives, whereas declarations were not utilized by the English lecturer. The most frequently used illocutionary acts were directives (53%), while the least frequent illocutionary acts went to commissives (5%). The frequent use of directives indicates that the lecturer seemed to be aware of their status as a lecturer which was believed to be more powerful than her students. In such restricted context like classroom setting, it is common that the lecturer status is higher than her students since the relation between them is inherently asymmetrical. Joke Strategies in American Situational Comedy "How I Met Your Mother"
The research discusse joke strategies in American situational comedy How I Met You Mother (HIMYM). The purpose of this research is to identify; (1) the joke strategies in situational comedy HIMYM (2) The pragmatic meaning of jokes that are expressed by the characters in HIMYM AND (3) Pragmatic prank functions that are expressed by the characters in HIMYM. This research is categorized as descriptive linguistic research. Observation method applied in data collection, while the method of distribution and matching applied in analyzing data. The results of this research data analysis is presented using informal and formal methods. From the results of data analysis found 14 strategy joke uttered by characters in a situational comedy American HIMYM, namely: ambiguity, grammar, syllabics, idiomatics, questionable English, antonymics, style, negativism, lexicography, spelling, punctuation, Rhyming English, numerical English And part of speech. The dominant strategy used is ambiguity because there are many words in English that mean more than one and are likely to lead the listener to multiple interpretations. The jokes uttered by the characters in situational comedy HIMYM have assertive, expressive and directive meanings. Moreover, the joke also serves to show the power, solidarity and psychological defense of the speaker
Affixes of Minangkabau Language in The Origin and Rantau Area: Study of Morphological Variation
The article aims to examine the similarities and differences between Minangkabau languages in the origin regions 50 Kota and Pasaman West Sumatra compared to rantau areas Kampar and Rokan Hulu Riau. The study is done by dialectology approach which focuses on affixes. The data are collected by using conversational observation method along with the interview and record techniques. The data are analyzed by using identity method along with immediate constituent analysis and advanced techniques, comparative and contrastive techniques. The result shows there similarities and differences of Minangkabau affixes between both areas
A Phonological Analysis on the English Consonants of Sundanese EFL Speakers
This descriptive qualitative study focuses on the description of the English consonants systems spoken by speakers of Sundanese backgrounds. This implies that such speakers of particular regional backgrounds speak unique and ideosyncratic native languages. This study will provide a description on the consonants production of English as Foreign Language (EFL) speakers with Sundanese native language in an experimental phonetic method to the students of Islamic Education Department of State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. In this study, the writer have two objectives: (1) to know the English consonants systems of EFL Sundanese speakers in Islamic Education Department of State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga? and (2) to know the most frequent errors on pronouncing English consonants produced by EFL Sundanese speakers. From the result of the analysis, it can be seen that the EFL Sundanese students made 262 errors. It can also been seen that the greatest errors made by the EFL Sundanese students are mispronouncing the minimal pairs of /f/ and /v/, /s/ and /Ө/ and /ð/ and /z/. The misuse of the sound “p” instead of “b” is common error for Sundanese since there is not distinction between the sound “f”, “v” dan “p” in sundanese phonological system

Malay manuscripts contain all kinds of knowledge. The manuscripts not only tell stories, they also depict various knowledge within the minds of past generations. In this paper discuss elements of illumination and the use of calligraphy in Malay letters on past Malay letters. The research is limited on Malay letters in social letters in the period 1521-1899. Malay society in the olden days practiced very fine arts as shown in the Malay letters through illumination and through the use of various types and designs of calligraphy. They used the world of nature to express their feelings. TINDAK TUTUR DALAM PROGRAM INTERAKTIF ANTARA PENELPON DAN PENYIAR RADIO DI KOTA PADANG
Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan jangka panjang, yaitu dapat memperkaya informasi tentang bahasa dan penggunaan bahasa dari kacamata sosiolinguistik. Informasi yang terangkum dalam penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi acuan dan pertimbangan bagi pengguna bahasa Indonesia. Selain itu, bagi mahasiswa Indonesia yang tertarik memperdalam pengetahuan akan bahasa Indonesia atau broadcast, pemerhati bahasa, dan para peneliti bahasa. Hasil penelitian ini dapat digunakan sebagai acuan untuk penelitian selanjutnya. Metode yang dipakai dalam pencapaian tujuan penelitian ini adalah pengumpulan data, metode analisis data, dan penyajian hasil analisis. Pengumpulan data dilakukan di daerah Padang karena siaran radio-radio yang ada di Kota Padang dapat didengar jelas. Sedangkan untuk metode analisis data, terdiri dari beberapa tahap, yaitu penyortiran data, pengidentifikasian data, dan menjawab permasalahan. Pada metode yang terakhir, yaitu penyajian hasil analisis data dilakukan dalam bentuk narasi. Penyajian ke dalam bentuk narasi dibagi atas dua jenis, vaitu metode formal dan metode informal.Secara umum, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan salah satu. bentuk kebahasaan dalam berkomunikasi yang dilakukan oleh pendengar radio yang menjadi penelpon pada saat program berlangsung. Dengan demikian, teori dalam Sosiolinguistik, Pragmatik, atau Sosiopragmatik dapat diterapkan. Secara khusus, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) Mengetahui ilokusi apa saja yang terdapat dalam tindak tutur yang dilakukan oleh penyiar dan penelpon dalam program interaktif tersebut; 2) mengetauhui perlolusi apa saja yang terdapat dalam tindak tutur yang dilakukan oleh penyiar dan penelpon dalam program interaktif tersebut; dan 3) Mengetahui tipe-tipe tindak tutur apa saja yang dilakukan oleh penyiar dan penelpon dalam program interaktif tersebut
